TL;DR
Driver Installation Process
When updating DisplayLink drivers, it's essential to ensure that you are downloading the correct and most recent version from the official DisplayLink website. This guarantees compatibility and minimizes the risk of encountering issues post-installation. If you're unsure about which driver to choose, selecting the default option for your specific hardware model is generally safe [4:3].
Using Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU)
For those who have experienced issues with driver updates in the past, using a tool like "Display Driver Uninstaller" (DDU) can be beneficial. DDU helps remove all traces of previous drivers, ensuring a clean slate before installing new ones. This can prevent conflicts between old and new driver files, which might cause performance issues or system instability [4:1]
[4:2].
Troubleshooting Driver Issues
If you encounter problems after updating your drivers, consider uninstalling the current drivers and reinstalling them. This process can resolve many common issues related to driver conflicts or corrupted installations. Additionally, rebooting your system after driver installation is crucial, as changes may not take effect until the system restarts [3:8].
General Advice on Driver Updates
It's advisable to update your system regularly but cautiously. For instance, using commands like "sudo pacman -Syu" for Linux systems ensures that all packages, including drivers, are updated consistently. However, be aware that forcing updates without resolving package conflicts can lead to system instability. Always back up important data and be prepared to troubleshoot if necessary [3:3]

I updated my drivers license in the Amazon flex app and of course I’m just now seeing that my account might be temporarily disabled or suspended until they verify the information. Can anyone let me know how long it usually takes to verify ? my license doesn’t even expire until next month. I was just updating it since I got the new one in. I don’t understand why it would need to be disabled. 😒
It takes less than 24 hours!
Go to settings I’m make sure everything is correct
Seriously I’m so tired of having to deal with bus drivers who go on break for 20 minutes before a class block starts. Wtf? Who is holding these drivers accountable. Like I’m not trying to be anti worker here but when I look at most of these drivers most of them are insanely old and should probably be retired.
Honestly I think Rutgers would be a lot more popular if they gave an option for students to drive with the opportunity for tuition free scholarships, I think a lot of students would volunteer for that and make it competitive. People will talk about cognitive ability or maturity but there’s no way these 60+ old drivers have not cognitively declined.
The solution is that students need to hold themselves accountable and leave for class earlier so that driver breaks don’t make them late for class, but y’all aren’t ready for that conversation.
I was gonna say it but I didn’t wanna be that guy!
The solution is scheduled breaks with relief floaters
How about hiring students to figure out how to make this idea work? Cuz it’s a pretty difficult thing to puzzle out. Course credit to be had
or you can just wait 15 minutes LOL. if you can’t wait, get to the stop earlier
What makes you think students will drive non-stop? Half need 5 minute breaks to hop on TikTok while doing hw
i’ve seen one of the older drivers put his phone on the steering wheel with youtube playing
>half
Conservative estimate!
i think the problem is mostly them taking breaks right before a block starts. they should realistically do it when everyones in their classes
In order to drive a bus you need to have commercial drivers license type B with a passenger endorsement.
To get that you must be 21, not colorblind, pass a medical physical, take a written test, complete entry level driver training, and then pass a road test. This will cost hundreds of dollars in fees.
This is simply unattainable for the vast majority of students.
I definitely wouldn't trust the average Rutgers student to drive a bus. Do you see how many posts we get in here about being issued parking tickets. So many students can't read basic signs on the road or simply don't give a fuck about the rules they need to follow.
Do they drug test in New Jersey for bus drivers?
sudo pacman -S --needed nvidia-dkms nvidia-utils lib32-nvidia-utils nvidia-settings vulkan-icd-loader lib32-vulkan-icd-loader
i entered this command it said some packages are in conflict i said to change it then boom, nvidia-smi is not detecting the gpu now. what should i do i dont really remember the conflict packages names.
I have learned that sudo pacman -Syu, Every weekend is the best way. The comments by Mergey will do the trick!
This is theoretically the same, as activating Cachy-Update in CachyOS Hello Tweaks, is it?
I learned a few years ago using Manjaro, IMO the worst (now and days) Arch distro, that updating everyday could potentially destroy everything, I have been through 2 total main drive losses.
im doing daily
that’s not necessarily better. if an update broke something (that happens) a nix will be released (shortly) afterwards.
Doing updates less often reduces the chances of hitting an update that would need a fix afterwards.
it’s a trade off.
run this command, it is detecting your hardware and installs the needed drivers
"sudo chwd -a"
for context, this is a cachos command and therefore not necessary available on other distributions
for reference: https://wiki.cachyos.org/features/chwd/
i highly recommend you for the future to update your system (including drivers) with "sudo pacman -Syu"
if you are changing drivers on your own the risk of breaking something is fairly high. So if everything is running and is playable do not mess with your system for more FPS or, be prepared to get stuck at one point.
Learning by doing is a great thing in my opinion and you may even get more FPS, but know the risks.
Uninstall nvidia packages - then reinstall.
Use nvidia-open-dkms if you have newer card.
Also note it won't take effect until reboot.
If you are stuck with no graphics just use text terminal (ctrl+alt+fx).
should i use the dkms one or direct nvidia one
Just always use dkms. This is exactly what nvidia provides.
You should have multiple kernels installed anyway - so those other precompiled packages are not that useful.
You forced upgrade of only a few packages, forced the upgrade even with conflicts. You've been taught an important lesson. Hopefully you learn it.
yeah literally. im not gonna remove any conflict packages anymore :D
Put this under general help because I don’t exactly know if it would fall more under the software category or the graphics category for help. Checked around and found no posts similar to mine while searching.
Almost definitely the regular rx580. Without looking it up typically names like that just mean it's factory over clocked. But using same/similar silicon.
You could try them, and the other ones, and if you find one works better use them. Using the wrong driver shouldn't cause any issues. Just have "display driver uninstaller" already downloaded.
Any suggestions for display driver uninstallers or do I just access the files on my PC or is there something specific? assuming they are hidden files with windows typical schtick of hiding “important” files that when deleted can cause issues.
It's an app, called "display driver uninstaller" look it up on Google. Also called ddu
Most of them are shown as “unknown” aswell
Are you sure you downloaded the drivers for your version of motherboard?
Yes I did my motherboard is ASUS prime x870 p wifi
Where did you install the drivers from? Can you link the url and let us know your motherboard
My approach would be to do a complete clean new install and first, let Windows update/install whatever it can find. Windows is actually quite competent in finding compatible drivers for PC hardware. After that, install whatever is missing.
By the way, actually troubleshooting your post is quite hard as your descriptions of problems are both very short and vague (e.g. "does not work" is too vague, what specifically doesn't work?). When looking for help in text form, more description is always better, if formated properly (e.g. specific steps you did or a point for every action you did). Also specify what worked.
Saying that less to hate on you and more to give you advise as doing that can speed up help in many areas, not just IT. I work in IT support and with notes similar to yours half the time support will spend over an hour just figuring out what the actual problem is, while with a good description you can often find the problem within minutes.
Better to update through the terminal:
sudo apt install nvidia-driver-580
Mind you, like the 575 driver, it will hang the system. Close all programs first, so you don't lose anything.
All monitors go black. I waited for a bit, but then I just decided to reboot doing a REISUB reboot (hold left ALT through the following: tap PrtSc once, then tap keys: R E I S U B
in that order).
When the system starts, you'll land on a black screen with a blinking cursor. Go to a TTY by pressing CTRL+ALT+F3
(or F2, or F4, any but F1). You'll login then.
Then simply sudo dpkg --configure -a
.
It will take a while, but eventually everything will be finished and you're back to the cursor.
You can go ahead and reboot, but I'd recommend also updating things: sudo apt update && sudo apt upgrade && sudo apt autoremove
as well as flatpak update
(since it'll fetch the new NVIDIA drivers).
Then you can just reboot: sudo reboot
.
Then just open a terminal and type nvidia-smi
and it should show that you're using driver 580.
You might be able to just do into a TTY using alt+CTL+f3. Then you don't have to worry about losing your gui
You still need to reboot after upgrading the driver, tho. I tried just going back to GUI after TTY, and the new driver wasn't loaded. So it's easier to recommend to close everything, and not confuse people by sending them back and forth.
i have fixed with this guide
Sudo apt install nvidia-driver-575-server
Or whatever version you want.
you have fix this?
Don't do it... Undo, Undo
I want and need the more newer drivers like 570, 575 and 580 but I wonder if it's best to wait for a newer kernel first and some new wayland and wayland related stuff.
Does updating GPU drivers break my ( drink )
Would 100% break a persona game.
Pressing the wrong key ingame would break a persona game 😭
Playing the game would break the persona game at this point💔
Noo
It could
From what i know it could break the drink
Hello, i have updated my drivers today and there was a lot of updates since i didn’t update them for 2 months. The issue is after updating them i noticed in the audio theres a clicking sound that plays along with videos, games , songs and basically everything. It also responds to the lowering and raising of the sound.
Just continuously clicking with 1 second gap between clicks.
I have checked my drivers in the settings and the dell website and it shows me that the laptop is up to date with the most recent drivers.
Anyone experiencing such issues?
Haven't noticed any issues with the new realtek audio drivers. Infact is better now than before the update. Maybe check the settings in Dolby and the new Realtek Audio Console Application The realtek driver is 10.0.218.1 Also see in the device manager under sound, video and game controller. It should have 10 of the Soundwire audo and one Soundwire speakers listed
I have the exact same problem with my brand new Alienware 18 Area 51, I unboxed it yesterday and applied all system and driver updates I could possibly find and then this happened. I always use an external speaker (Bose Companion 2) just because I never enjoyed built-in speakers.Interestingly, the popping clicking sound still persists.
Tried to download the previous version of the software, no more weird clicking sounds anymore before or after an audio played, perhaps a good fix. Here is the link: https://www.dell.com/support/home/en-us/drivers/driversdetails?driverid=rc6dd&oscode=w2021&productcode=alienware-area-51-aa18250-gaming-laptop
Looks like the new drivers are pushing the speakers too hard. Try to roll back the drivers to the previous version. If rolling back is not possible then try to avoid using the speakers until the issue is resolved. The clicking sound comes from the speaker membrane too much and hitting either the base of the speaker or the grille that's infront of it. Normally it should'nt move this much. The update might have added a millimeter of travel to the membranes. Prolonged use might tear the membrane so avoid using the speakers untill the issue is sorted out
YES! Exactly the same issue here and it was kinda bothering me that I seemed to only be noticing it recently, I wondered if it was like that since I received it (got this laptop about 2 weeks ago now) or if it was a recent change but seeing this has made me feel so much better that others share the problem.
check if you got an alien signal lol
Anyone have issues with dell command update reverting Intel graphic drovers to a Microsoft Display adapter when updating drivers. Happened to 3 of our employees now and fixed when installing latest Intel arc drivers from Intel.
Thanks.
Happened to (4) 7420's and one 5440 this week. We were not able to duplicate the issue however. We are running Dell command update 5.4.
Also experienced this on a 5420 this week. It does seem to eventually sort it self out. DCU was up to date.
Not sure if we've been having the same issue, but last Thursday during our automatic updates with Dell Command Update, everyone's laptop got stuck on the graphics driver update, flashing their screens over and over again for over an hour. It seems to have eventually fixed itself on most of the computers, but we couldn't really determine why. According to the logs, dell command update didn't even think the update was failing and then trying it again, it just logged that it was installing the graphics driver, and then appears to just get stuck on that. We tried interrupting the update with a restart, and that seemed to fix it for about a quarter of our users, but for the rest it just started right up again after the restart. We eventually resorted to disabling automatic updates until we can get to the bottom of it.

U need to use ST-link for example and flash it. I have one, can send you if you know how to do that :)
