TL;DR There is no universal best time to post on social media; it varies by platform, audience, and content type. Use analytics tools for insights specific to your account.
Platform-Specific Recommendations
Different platforms have varying peak engagement times. For Instagram, Thursdays at 5 AM, 11 AM, and 4 PM are recommended [1]. Twitter sees the most activity between 9 AM and 4 PM EST, particularly from 11 AM to 1 PM on Mondays and Thursdays
[1]. Reddit tends to be more active early in the workday, around 8-10 AM ET
[1]. These general guidelines can serve as a starting point but should be tailored based on your specific audience and insights.
Audience Insights and Analytics
The consensus across discussions is that understanding your audience is key. Most platforms offer insight tools that show when your followers are online, which can help you determine optimal posting times [2:1]
[3:2]. Regular analysis of these insights can reveal patterns and trends specific to your account
[4:2]. Experimentation with different posting times and analyzing engagement results can help refine your strategy
[2:3].
Content Type and Audience Demographics
The type of content and the demographics of your audience can influence the best posting times. For example, posts targeting parents might perform better early in the morning or late evening when children are asleep [4:3]. Business-to-business (B2B) content might see higher engagement during commuting hours or lunch breaks
[4:3]. Tailoring your posting schedule to fit the lifestyle and habits of your target audience is crucial
[5:3].
Experimentation and Adaptation
Due to the variability in engagement, experimentation is necessary. Some users report success at seemingly random times, indicating that luck and content quality also play significant roles [5]. Using social analytics tools can help track performance and suggest optimal posting times based on historical data
[5:1]. It's important to adapt your strategy based on ongoing analysis and feedback from your audience
[4:1].
Considerations Beyond Timing
While timing is important, focusing solely on it may overlook other critical factors like content quality and relevance. Engaging content can perform well regardless of the time it's posted [3:4]. Additionally, understanding how algorithms prioritize content can provide further insights into maximizing reach and engagement
[5:4].
Just wanted to compile the best times
On average, the best time to post on Instagram is between 2 PM and 3 PM CDT. However, the level of engagement you get can change dramatically depending on what day of the week you post. The best day to post on Instagram is Thursday, not just at 3 PM, but at 5 AM, 11 AM, and 4 PM as well.
The best time to post on Twitter is between 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. EST on Monday or Thursday, with emphasis on the 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. EST window.
As a rule of thumb, early in the work day (8-10 AM ET) is usually the best. Each subreddit has its own best posting time. You can use a tool like Delay for Reddit to find the answer specific to your post. usually 6:00 pm eastern stander time works the best for me.
Tictok
If you are posting multiple pieces of content a day, especially during peak hours between 11 am and 5:30 pm, it dramatically improves the exposure of your videos.
The best times to post are Wednesday at 11 am and 1 pm. The overall best day is Wednesday. You will get the most consistent engagement on weekdays from 9 am–3 pm. The worst day is Sunday, which sees the least amount of engagement.
YouTube
In general, the best time to upload your video to YouTube during weekdays is between 2 and 4 pm CST or EST (the most densely populated, internet-active time zones).
Hey, I’m a lurker on this sub (don’t work in marketing, am business student though) but I found this interesting and thought maybe I could chime in.
I use TikTok to make informative videos regarding my business and the niche/market I operate in and I found that in the long run, timing doesn’t matter as much as you think.
For example, I’ve uploaded videos in the afternoon and around 5-6pm as I saw suggested in some places (EST) and the results were kind of average (~500-2500 Views, usually around 100-300 likes), however my two best performing videos were actually uploaded at around 1AM (10,000+ likes, around 70k views).
I’ve also found that sometimes TikTok will like to randomly blow up your video days after you upload it, for example I uploaded a video and it actually did pretty bad the first day or two, then on the 3rd or 4th day it just spiked up and became one of my best performing vids.
Thanks for the input there really isn’t much research with tictok because it’s still kinda new.
Much appreciated
np! yes that’s true still lots to learn
This is cool, but do you have the data to support this? Was it tested? And is it specific to a certain industry or target segment?
Luckily Reddit tells you how many users are on a subreddit at a particular time. If I post something I want a lot of people to see, I try to wait until more than usual are on that sub.
There’s veritably some of that going on but it’s still somewhat accurate—just a high margin or error. I know it’s not totally made up because whenever I like a small/brand new sub on a popular post the number goes way up
I don't think there's a one-all-catch-all timeslot for maximizing reach on social media tho. The insights of pages are usually always unique depending on the platform and timezone. Best way I've found, just based on experience, is really looking at the hard stats and trial-and-error. Sometimes experimenting posting times can be the only way to accurately find the "best time to post" for that specific account/page.
I hear it varies based on day of week, follower demographic, and even the app you're using. I look up this question a all the time and I feel like I always get a different answer. What are your thoughts?
There’s no perfect time to post that works for everyone. For me the best time is the late afternoon/early evening, but for another person it could be the morning. It depends on your audience - where they are from (time zones) and when they are most active. It’s good to see your statistics and check on what time of the day your audience is most active.
Test it out yourself to see. Your IG business account has stat on the best days and time you get the most reach. Play around with it, start uploading around the suggested time, and then see when the most amount of likes come in, if that's 4 hours after you post, then you know on that day you need to post 4 hours later then you did.... rince and repeat
Hello! I always get the most engagement on a Sunday night! When people are just chilling at home with all their duties over and done with they are just scrolling ✨
During the day works best for me! Nights and weekends are terrible
Most platforms have insight tools that you can look at that breaks down what days and what hours your followers are online which can help with figuring out when to post. It makes sense to post when they're online than when they're not, and each company has varying days and times that would yield the highest engagements!
I've seen lots of blogs right that the best day is Wednesday worst day of Sunday but just wondering if you guys found that to be true in post lockdown world
It varies depending on your audience—I don’t think any kind of general advice will be helpful here. I’m not sure what platform you use but you should take a look at your follower insights to see what your most active posting times are (Instagram does this, not sure about other platforms)
This is the perfect answer
You can post the blog on each day and check on which day there is more engagement.
Unpopular opinion, posting in a specific time of the day doesn’t matter. Luck matters more and if your content is amazing it’ll do well regardless the time you post.
If you have a business account you can check your insights to see the days and times your followers are most active.
You are already asking the wrong question. The proper question is:
"What is the best time to post an X kind of SM post on platform Y in order to reach my target audience of Z."
Until you can state the kind of--for lack of better phrase--kind of engagement you are offering, on which specific platform, and which particular market demographic(s), there is no valid way to answer your question.
And, if you want to do it right, you will use different hooks to reel in different market segments in different SM areas.
I mean, you wouldn't use fly fishing gear and lures to catch tuna off of Alaska, would you?
Pretty much the same thing.
This is the question of the decade. I think there is no magic time to post. Sometimes I post on the "best" times but the engagement is low then, for example, for posts I made in the early morning.
There is no "magictime" to post in my opinion. And also from my experience. I mean not the same for every business, industry, audience, location etc. It really depends on many factors. For me, the best way to find out when it's the most optimal to post to get highest engagement is to make analysis. Regular analysis is important, but long-term analysis is helpful as well, as you can have a wider view and may be you will see some seasonal trends etc. And also analysis for your competitors or brands/businesses that communicate with your target audience. This is just a great source of data.
One company I work for is targeting parents so usually early morning, after dinner or about 9.30pm is our best time. No kids and time to mindlessly scroll
Another is a b2b so early morning and lunch time and after work are best. I’m thinking commuting time might account for that
It depends on audience really
weekday mornings between 9 and 11.
I think it depends on your audience and what you are about. It's not a one thing fits all answer.
Absolutely. I believe another commenter had examples of different times they used for different accounts, and it’s also important to consider what platform you’re using, since they often cater to somewhat different needs and different people.
Try to figure out who your audience is and when they will be using social media. You can always look at competitors and see when they’re posting with success, but you should do your own experimentation as well.
Often there are multiple times in a day that work well unless your audience consistently uses social media exclusively at one set time every day, which is not terribly likely.

I’ve been testing posting times for a client’s Instagram and TikTok for about a month now, and the results are all over the place.
Some days, 9 AM posts go crazy. Other days, it’s the 8 PM ones. Then last week, a random 2 PM post blew up for no reason.
I’ve been trying to pair it with a small email push, I export my unlimited leads from Warpleads and grab more niche/targeted ones from Prospeo with Sales Navigator so I can send quick promos before/after posting. But honestly, I still can’t tell if timing is the real driver here or just luck + good content.
Do you stick to a posting schedule religiously, or just post whenever you feel like it and hope for the best?
I have been posting at 8.30am and I found the best results. That’s when my niche wakes up and is at the office. I post on linkedin and have created a scheduler app I’m using. The tool is called schedpilot .com
It depends on your ICP (ideal customer profile). If they are from USA, post when they have morning from 8-10 AM and 6-9 PM every single day. Do it every single day, share real value, be valuable and helpful.
People cannot read posts or emails when their eyes are closed! So, with that said, you know when not to post or email.
But here's the inconvenient truth. You're trying to relate everything to times to post, when you should be focusing on the right ideal client. Emails, if done well, will sit in the inbox, and when the recipient opens their inbox, they spot it and determine if they're going to open it or not, so timing is not that critical.
For posts, understanding how the algorithm shares your content. They share content by placing the post in a person's feed, and then when that person opens their feed, they may or may not spot it, depending on the content/post. So there you go.
Just don't post while people are sleeping.
Hope that makes sense
The best answer is to use a social analytics tool that tracks performance. Based on the best results at the best time, you start posting. Some tools suggest the best time to post and give you reports of the "best time." This is the only solution instead of doing guesswork.
One of the most common questions I see : When’s the best time to post on Instagram?
I tested this across multiple accounts ( different niches + different audiences ) and here’s what actually worked for me :
General Patterns I Noticed
Weekdays usually beat weekends for reach.
Tuesday / Thursday had the best engagement overall.
Posting early ( around 8–9 AM ) or late ( 7–9 PM ) tends to work better than mid day.
Examples by Niche
Fitness : Early morning ( before work ) people check IG after waking up.
Business / Marketing : Lunch breaks ( 12–1 PM ) quick scroll at work.
Lifestyle / Entertainment : Evenings ( 7–9 PM ) people relax and scroll before bed.
The Surprise
On one account, Sunday nights actually outperformed everything else because the audience was planning their week. So testing is key.
My takeaway : there isn’t ONE magic time, but testing + checking Insights made a huge difference.
What’s the best ( or worst ) posting time you’ve seen for your niche?👀
I’ll explain what I was able to analyze on my side: when you post, the visibility starts at 0. Each like or comment pushes it forward a bit more. My best results came from posting in the morning, with activity on the publication lasting until the evening, so the algorithm puts it ahead of the people who post later in the day then it explode around 7pm
that’s a solid breakdown posting earlier really does give the content more runway to build momentum before peak hours!!
Im locked in since 2 weeks with my developer working on new feature on my application with nothing to do except post shit on Instagram and analyse everything. The best i kept
Testing different times really does make a difference, but combining that with consistent engagement can push results further. Some creators also rely on support from places such as crescitalyypanell to keep their posts performing well regardless of the posting hour.
true consistency plus engagement is what really compounds the results external boosts can work short term but long term growth always comes back to strong content and knowing your audience !!!
I’m new to Instagram marketing (experienced with Facebook ads) and started two accounts to attract clients. Since I’m camera-shy, I’m focusing on carousels, inspired by a friend who gained clients this way. However, after posting four carousels on each account, I’m getting very few impressions (usually under 10). I engage daily and warm up the accounts properly. Any advice on improving impressions would be greatly appreciated!
new accounts often get limited reach until ig trusts the activity. try mixing in reels even if they’re simple text on screen since carousels alone rarely get pushed at the start. also make sure your hashtags are niche specific not just broad ones so the posts land in the right feeds!!
also keep in mind it can take a few weeks of steady posting before impressions rise early consistency is what signals the algorithm to test your content with wider audiences!!!!!!
true !! late night posts can hit hard exactly because there’s less noise pairing that with early posting tests gives a clearer picture of when your audience is actually active
10am works worst for me
interesting i ve seen that toomid morning often feels like a dead zone sometimes shifting just an hour earlier or later makes a big difference have you tried testing around 8–9 am instead ?
I wonder what time you should post on Instagram, the middle of the night would not be good
It depends on who you're trying to reach and when they're most active. Knowing your audience's habits can help you decide the optimal posting time.
The best time to post on Instagram varies depending on your audience and their location. However, these timings worked for me so I am sharing it here:
Thank you so much
what is your niche btw? if you don’t mind sharing
If you go into your account insights it will tell you what time frame each day your audience is the most active - that's generally a good timeframe to post.
(I bet it's 3-6PM)
Just to add, this is where you find it: First have a professional account, Go to the insights tab, Click “total followers” Scroll to the bottom
I’m from europe and most of my audience is from the us. In my insights the times that are shown is it in my timezone or the timezone of my audience which is the us?
How exactly do you get to this insight?
Go into your account insights on Instagram.
Does it even matter anymore? I think IG changed the way it serves content into feeds but that could just be me
SAME, I just thought my art got worse or something but that's not it! I started paying attention in like 2018ish. I used to get such good engagement. I was great at using good hashtags too. I used to get like 100 likes consistently and interactions with other artists. For the past year or so, the highest I got was 30. It's so disappointing
For optimal engagement, posting during peak hours when your audience is most active is usually recommended. Perhaps consider mid-morning or early evening to maximize visibility and interaction.
Curious if there are best times to post on ig? i recently took over the social for a company I am helping market, and I am posting the exact same type of content they were before, but I'm getting between 200-300 likes per post (whereas before they were getting 500-900). On the first day they mentioned something about posted after 4:30pm PST, but I didn't notice any difference with that timing.

Is there a best time to be posting on IG?
You can check optimal posting times for their audience by looking in the FB suite analytics
Whenever your followers/target audience are most active
Unique to your audience. Look at you in app analytics and pick the start of your peak hours.
If they’re all the same go earlier in the day.
Consistency is the thing you’re looking for more than anything else.
Pick a schedule, and frequency and then stick to it for 90 days.
This totally depends upon your company, target audience, and when they are most active... Between 6 pm and 11 pm works best for me because that's the time my audience is most active. Also, to get more likes, and follows use services like Marketing Heaven to speed up the process of exposure of the company you working for. However, in general the best time to post on Instagram is between 8 pm and 10 pm on weekdays and 12 pm and 3 pm on Saturdays or Sundays. But still, it may take some time to find the ideal posting times, so be patient.
I'm sorry if this is against the rules or a stupid question, but I was wondering when is the best time/day to share your work on social media that has the best exposure. I heard from friends that their highest engagement were posts that were posted during lunchtime, but they're mostly posting memes, so I don't know if that applies to writing.
You want to post at times when people are most likely to be looking at their phones. These tend to be breaks, lunchs, and when they're home in the evening. Here's the schedule I usually recommend as it will gives enough wiggle room to capture multiple time zones around your own.
9AM 1030AM 12PM 130PM 300PM 600PM
It should also be noted that most social media algorithms don't like repeat posts, so you should find multiple ways to share your article and always share it with an image. The most effective way is to post the link in the comments as links take away your reach. This isn't always ideal if you're a small page though.
How about night? Is that a bad time?
It just depends on your audience. If you have a bigger one it could be good to post occasionally at night. If your audience is international then it definitely is a good idea.
Also, if it's a page and not just a personal profile, they give you some pretty neet graphics where you can check the response level
Depends on the social media and where your followers are mostly from . Posting at lunch time may work if your followers are also on lunch at the same time as you. But let's say you have a Tumblr or Instagram and your followers are mostly Asian . You would have to post at their lunch break time to get that interaction from them instead of at your lunch time. Social media tends to be best to post during the time when most people will be on , so lunch break, when school day ends , and around 5-6 pm when most people are getting off work . You have to think when most people are most likely to be online and then find out where the majority of your followers are from and post during their peak times .I also think this isn't as important depending where you are because of the pandemic many people now spend all day online .
I feel that most of my engagement is in the afternoon, Sunday-Thursday. Friday and Saturday afternoon posts don’t seem to be as popular.
This is helpful as I’m trying to figure right time to publish my memoir coming out in May.
I'm no expert but I believe that most engagement would happen in the afternoon Eastern Time.
It does for me anyway.
Hmm, there's a lot of people said afternoon is good for them. Maybe I'll give it a try.
I found that I get less engagement when I post after 3 pm but haven't found the exact right time to post yet. I know that wattpad advises to post on Friday and Saturday. Don't know if that's the best day for other social media too.
I don’t know if it makes a difference for accounts with more of a following on Wattpad but as a tiny account I really haven’t noticed much difference depending on the day, except that my handful of regular readers don’t seem to care for Saturday’s.
Time zones can play a huge part in interacting with your audience . If you already have followers it's great to know where the majority of them are from . :)
Is there is specific time to post in instagram for more engagement.
It depends on your audience. You can check your insights.
And if you are asking about best times to post I think that you are looking to grow your account. What helped me was hiring a instagram growth service from freelancer on popular marketplace. I'm really happy with my results, I have got 600 new followers in my first month. And they are all real and engaged. I will definitely be using this again.
There's no one-size-fits-all answer. You might need to test different times and see what's optimal for your specific followers.
thanks
I experimented for a few weeks and found out that posting right around lunchtime (12-1 pm) gave me the best results. Hope that helps!
When people check their phones:
On waking
Lunch
Post School

It varies for everyone, but typically weekdays during working hours, especially midday, have been solid for me.
