System Requirements for Hades 2

TL;DR

  • Minimum: 8GB RAM, DirectX 12 feature level 12_0 or greater [4:1]
  • Recommended: Likely similar to Hades with modest requirements, but specifics are not yet confirmed.

General Expectations

While the specific system requirements for Hades 2 have not been officially released, there is a general consensus that they will likely be in line with the original Hades game. Supergiant Games, the developers, are known for creating games that do not demand high-end hardware [1:1]. The recommended specs for the first game were quite modest, suggesting that most modern gaming laptops should handle Hades 2 comfortably [1:2].

Minimum and Recommended Specs

Some discussions mention that Hades 2 requires DirectX 12 feature level 12_0 or greater [4:1]. A user reported running the game smoothly on a Mac Mini with 16GB RAM and another with a 1050Ti graphics card, indicating that you might not need an RTX 2060 or better [2:2][2:3]. However, Steam's minimum specs suggest needing at least 8GB of RAM [3:1].

Performance on Various Systems

Users have shared experiences of running Hades 2 on different systems. For example, one user mentioned their setup with a Ryzen 5 5500U and Radeon Vega 7 (2GB VRAM) could potentially run the game well, given it meets the DirectX requirement [4:1]. Another user successfully ran the game on a laptop with a hybrid chip without issues [2:4].

Resources for Checking Compatibility

For those unsure about their system's compatibility with Hades 2, tools like DxDiag can help verify if your system supports the necessary DirectX features [4:1]. Additionally, websites like System Requirements Lab can provide guidance on whether your current setup can handle the game [4:4].

In conclusion, while exact specifications for Hades 2 are not fully available, based on community feedback and comparisons to the original game, it seems that moderate hardware should suffice. It's advisable to check your system's compatibility using available tools and resources.

ORIGINAL POST

Hey! Started playing Hades a few months ago now (beat it a few times but not quite done yet, redacted keeps getting me 😭) and I’m so excited for the second game! But I’ve never done early access before and have no idea what sort of specs my laptop will need. Does anyone know roughly the bare minimum of what I’d need? I’ve got an acer gaming laptop from 2020 so I’ve got my fingers crossed! I also play on switch and was wondering if I could connect the controllers to my laptop, or if I should just use regular controls and just get good. Hope it comes out early on in the season!!!

The recommended requirements for Hades describe a computer from 2009. Based on the little we've seen I doubt much will change in that regard for Hades II. Your laptop is going to be fine.

Everyone has a preference but imo controller is leaps and bounds ahead of kb/mouse. If Hades II has similar control handling you should use a controller.

Nobody other than Supergiant themselves know anything at all about Hades 2 other than what can be gleaned from the teaser video. There's no way to tell what the specs will be until much closer to release, but based on all their previous games, it shouldn't require top end cutting edge hardware because they aren't making a hundred gigabyte 3D open world game with nosehair textures individually rendered for maximum immersion, and they don't have the team size or budget to even try.

As far as using controllers on Hades vs keyboard and mouse, I have done both, and both are totally playable, but I personally prefer my wireless 360 controller to kb+m in this specific case.

Are the recommended requirements accurate?

Posted by Academic_Tomb · in r/Hades2 · 5 months ago

I wasn't expecting the exact same requirements of Hades (2020) but going from 8GB to 16GB RAM and just "2GB VRAM / DirectX 10+" to RTX 2060/RX 5600 seems like a big jump. We're days from release and I'm kinda worried now. Never mind, I thought the release date was May 6, 2025, it says May 6, 2024.

Do I really need an RTX 2060 (or better) and 16GB of RAM?

They just kinda seem oddly high for these type of graphics, am I wrong?

Edit: Yes I do feel like a complete idiot thinking it said May 6, 2025 was the release date.

Edit 2: Apparently it runs smoothly even on integrated graphics and 8GB RAM, don't get why they went with RTX 2060. (Maybe they will update the requirements on release? maybe not who knows)

That may 6th 2024 release date. Was the lunch of Hades 2 early access.

1.0/full release of Hades 2 is at least months away. The earliest I can see H2 launching into 1.0 is winter 2025.

But I would not be surprised if it did not launch into 1.0 until spiring or even summer of 2026.

Note I’m just being generous with my estimations. I’d rather say, “don’t expect 1.0 until summer 2026”. Then have it actually launch winter 2025 or quarter 1 2026.

Then say,”it’s coming out winter 2025”. Then not have it come out until the 1st or 2nd quarter of 2026.

You get what I’m saying.

I'm able to run Hades 1 without any stutter/lag at 1080p 60 fps, but the system requirements for Hades 2 seem like it could be too much for my integrated graphics card. (How well) would I be able to run Hades 2?

Hades II requires DirectX 12 feature level 12_0 or greater to run. Just based off of this it seems like your card ought to have that feature level: https://www.notebookcheck.net/AMD-Radeon-RX-Vega-7-Graphics-Card-Benchmarks-and-Specs.450004.0.html
Though you should run DxDiag and check for yourself. You can find the feature level by going to the "Display" tab in the DxDiag window, then checking under the "Drivers" section, next to "Feature Levels". The levels are listed from highest to lowest, so as long as the first number listed is 12_0 or higher, you should be good.

As for how well it would run, I'm not sure - there are graphics settings in-game so you can try adjusting those if it's running poorly.

[REQUEST][STEAM] Hades II – $30 (₱910 in my region)

Posted by Sidryc · in r/GiftofGames · 9 days ago

Hi everyone,

I’m here today to make a request for something that’s been at the top of my mind ever since it came out: Hades II. I’ve been following this sequel since it was first announced, and now that it’s in Early Access on Steam, I can’t help but want to jump in right away. Sadly, the price point of $30 (₱910 in my region) is a bit out of reach for me right now, which is why I’m here, hoping someone kind might be willing to help me out.

What excites me most about Hades II is that it builds on everything that made the first game so amazing, fast combat, incredible art, fantastic music, and that signature SUPERGIANT storytelling that makes every interaction with characters feel meaningful. From what I’ve seen, the game puts you in the shoes of Melino(I think I spelt that wrong), Zagreus’ sister, and the whole vibe feels darker, more magical, but still just as stylish and epic. The idea of taking on the Titan of Time honestly sounds awesome!

I’m especially looking forward to the replayability. Roguelikes always pull me in because no two runs feel the same, and with all the different weapons, boons, and combinations to try, I know this is the kind of game I could sink hours into without ever getting bored. And since it’s in Early Access, I’d get to watch the game grow and evolve along with the community, being part of that journey seems like something really special.

I’ll be honest: I can’t afford to get it myself right now, which makes this post a bit difficult to write. But I figured it doesn’t hurt to ask. If someone does decide to gift it, I would be beyond grateful, it would seriously mean so much to me to be able to experience Hades II alongside all the people talking about it right now.

Here’s my Steam profile link for anyone who’s interested in checking me out or gifting directly:
👉 My Steam Profile

Thanks so much for reading this. Even if nothing comes out of it, I really appreciate being part of a community where generosity is still alive and people share games they love with others.

Why does Hades 2 take up less storage than Hades 1?

Posted by ackmondual · in r/Hades2 · 1 month ago

According to their respective system requirements + recommendations entries on Steam...

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1145360/Hades/

https://store.steampowered.com/app/1145350/Hades_II/

... Hades 1 says you should have 15 to 20 GB of storage
While Hades 2 says you should have 10 GB of storage

I can look up the actual installation size of H2 (7.54 GB)*, but not H1 since I only have that for Switch (and the assets there are trimmed down for 720p to 1080p) so it's not an apples-to-apples comparison.

I was expecting H2 to be much bigger since it seems to already have more content than than H1 out of the box (let alone all the upgrades we've gotten in the past year). What gives? When we get to v1.0, will the rest of the voice lines, extra game play elements, modes, art and sound assets, etc. push that over the top?

Last update is likely to push it over. Voice lines can take up a ton of space and there is still very little story progression dialogue and the first game was good at having characters chime in on just about everything. Romance plots, character relationships, and NPC plots have not been resolved. There are characters we likely have not seen yet who will have a ton of dialogue. That is a lot of space right there. The other big thing is that this game might just have more file compression

11 upvotes on reddit
Kaeri_g · 1 month ago

There's whole areas missing like the next Hypnos' next dreamscape or what happens after you defeat grandpa or Big T. Bunch of dialogues for every little things you do (i think Ody and Nem will have lines about what you have in the garden), possible new furnitures with their appointed comments from Dora and whoever wants to chime in, definitely the entirety of the Fates, since you do have to find them and possibly talk with them and their character models. They also probably have a keepsake. We have to save the whole house, admittedly most are either going to be unaccessible or just only in a cutscene. Though we're mostlikely going to see Zag and mom(s). There's a hades keepsake we need too, there must be one. There's a lot of stuff that's still missing. The gods don't react too much to what weapon you have or their aspects unless it's Heph.

Tl:dr, there's a lot we can get through this 1.0! Including the rest of the story!

[HELP] Computer specs for Hades II

Posted by Howsitd00d · in r/HadesTheGame · 1 year ago

I was trying to play the game earlier and I was basically looking at a 10 fps slideshow the whole time. I wasn't able to lower the resolution, but even with everything else on the lowest settings possible, it didn't help much. What else can I do to make sure I can play the game I've waited for 4 years to play?

My pc specs are as follows:

Intel(R) Core(TM) i7-10510U CPU @ 1.80GHz 2.30 GHz

If you have an integrated GPU then that's likely the issue. I have a 3070 and it's taking 60% of my VRAM no matter the graphics quality.

1 upvotes on reddit
Howsitd00d · OP · 1 year ago

If it’s not integrated then what’s the issue

1 upvotes on reddit
Flying_Mattress · 1 year ago

Well, I'm assuming the issue is actually not having enough VRAM, which an integrated GPU would struggle with, but you can have a dedicated GPU not have enough VRAM too depending on the model.

You're using a laptop so the other issue might possibly be thermal throttling the CPU. I have noticed that Hades II is only using a single core of my CPU. I have a water cooled i7-11700KF and there is a 19° C difference between my hottest and coolest core. (Doesn't happen on other games) For some reason any time Hades II wants to do something it puts a 50% load on my 5th or 6th core. It'll switch which core it puts it under, but it's always those two and they are a lot hotter than the rest of my CPU. My tower can handle it, but since you have a laptop that might be an issue you have to worry about. I would use CoreTemp to test you temps while playing Hades.

Edit: unfortunately all of these are optimization issues that you have to wait for the devs to fix.

I think you've already called it out. The art assets are what takes up storage space.

I haven't played h2 in a while but last I played there was a lot of placeholder art, the finished stuff will have high quality too I'll bet. It might be resolution for the files too, or localization that h1 has.

Another piece might be efficiency. H1 might have a lot of extra code left in the game that couldn't / wasn't removed from the finished product, but that same legacy or unneeded code didn't get added to h2.

Or perhaps h2 was coded differently that it doesn't need as much file space at all. I think I recall seeing the scripting for h2 was overall very simple so it was easier to add/ edit/ or eventually mod

I would expect a finished h2 to take up more storage, but it's not necessarily a given as a longer game with more content doesn't necessarily mean more bytes on your hard drive.

Arkayjiya · 1 month ago

There is more "art" (from a consumer perspective) in H2 than in H1. Placeholder art also doesn't take meaningfully less space than "real" art because it was at the same resolution as far as I can tell. It should take more space. As other have stated, the likely reason is that 3D models take less space than rendering the same 2D image 4 or 8 times for all angles.

A 3D dress generally has a single texture that takes the same space as each of the 8 textures you'd need for each angle of Zagreus in 2D, or at most if you want the same amount of pixel/unit of resolution, it might take twice as much space which is still 2 to 4 times less than what you need in 2D depending on angles.

There are no placeholders anymore. The game is pretty much complete apart from the story stuff being finished most likely.

Engine changes that allow to use 3D models. Hades, in its own, was 2D game. That's why there is a lot of texture flickering, due to how it was layered.
edit: to add more. SGG since its very first game Bastion had its own custom engine based on MonoGame and Lua scripts. They were improving it across all games they did. At the end of the Hades 1 developing, they outsourced engine developers that started to add new features that are used in AAA games. One was real important for Switch port, and it was due to heavy Lua scripts that are single threaded crap, so the team added multi-threading to them that allowed them to spread all the script to all cores (and work on four 1Ghz little switch cores_). Later they added more features like the 3D. From that point, I don't follow Hades 2 development, nor I datamine the files to know what's inside. I can expect that the next game will be fully 3D, and due to that, will, sadly, be more similar to all games on the market -- I hope not.

So Hades I takes 11.08 GB storage and I have about 530 hours on it.

Hades II takes 7.54 GB storage and I have about 228 hours on that.

I mentioned time played because it might influence storage place, I don't have a single clue how the save system works so I don't know how that might influence things. I know that some streamers had issues with slow loading times after playing a few thousand hours.

Maybe They've gotten better at managing storage place or they compressed stuff like sound files more or better(?), I really don't know the lingo around that.

Yeah supergiant games is my one of very few exceptions to the no pre-order rule.. and mainly because in early access they damn near had a full game already. Hope the launch goes well and I can't wait to see the ending!

I've never gone in on an early access offer except for Hades 2, because I knew how they'd done Hades 1 and knew not only would the game actually do a full release one day, but it'd be cool to see it evolve.

Hades 2 was the first game I pre-ordered since Halo 2 twenty years ago. As soon as I saw the release date, I bought it. My body is ready.

That’s really awesome. Do early access games usually get a big spike of purchases on release day?
