What Redditors are Saying

What's in the Crash Zone in Subnautica

TL;DR The Crash Zone is a dangerous area surrounding the wreck of the Aurora, populated by Reaper Leviathans and containing valuable resources like Cyclops parts.

Dangerous Creatures

The Crash Zone is notorious for its population of Reaper Leviathans, which are aggressive creatures that can pose a significant threat to players [4:1]. These leviathans tend to spawn continuously, making the area perpetually dangerous [4:7]. Players have reported encounters with Reapers attacking from below, adding to the terrifying experience [5:3].

Valuable Resources

Despite the dangers, the Crash Zone offers valuable resources that make it worth exploring. Cyclops parts can be found scattered around the area [4:5], and the Aurora itself contains important items necessary for game progression [4:2]. Exploring the Crash Zone can be risky but rewarding for those seeking these materials.

Exploration Strategy

To minimize risks while exploring the Crash Zone, players can stay at surface level to avoid direct encounters with Reapers [5:7]. Utilizing tools like the stasis rifle can help temporarily immobilize threats, allowing players to attach floaters or toxin pods to them [5:9]. However, caution is advised as the Reapers use echolocation, meaning if you can hear them, they can see you [5:6].

Alternative Exploration Areas

For players who find the Crash Zone too daunting, there are other areas to explore for similar rewards. The Koosh Zone and Jellyshroom Cave contain fragments and resources that may be easier to obtain without the constant threat of Reapers [5:2]. Additionally, building bases in less hostile regions like the Sparse Reef can offer a safer exploration experience [3:8].

So I want to build another secret/hidden base in the south-east region of the map, my first thought was deep Crag Field but the bone sharks are so many, so how about the farthest crash zone? Do reapers still roam there or even adult ghost? Or it’s empty like Sparse Reef..??

Edit: I mean observation room if there’s any chance I could detect ghost leviathan around the edge (which already sounds terrifying tbh)

Tbf, you can absolutely get there without running into a reaper. You just travel through the cragfield until you hit void, then follow the edge north.

[SPOILERS] Should I visit the Crash Zone?

Posted by subnaut20 · in r/subnautica · 3 years ago

Hey all, is it worth exploring reaper territory by the Aurora? I enjoyed exploring the Dunes wrecks with the PRAWN Suit, little nerve wracking with the warpers.

Anything worthwhile down there? Wrecks and such?

Yes, but only for the Aurora, as it contains important things in it that will help you complete the game. Only reason to go exploring the entire area is because you would want to risk losing your life over materials and parts that are found elsewhere on the map.

It depends. How much of your enjoyment of the game is based on 1) exploring the biomes in a chill fashion, or 2) dangling from a Reaper in a Prawn suit laughing maniacally whilst you try to bring the SKULLDRILL to bear on its face?

If the answer is 1) I'd stay well away from the Crash Zone, if it's 2) go wild with it.

The Crash Zone is one of several zones where, if you're just following the story and doing some light side-exploring, you never really ever need to go there. If you just stay on the surface when you head over to the Aurora, you won't attract the Reapers either.

I read so many things about how terrifying it is to go to Aurora and how some people sacrifice their seamoth so of course I was scared 💩less every time I went there (about four times) but somehow…I never got attacked. I’ve never even seen whatever is in there. Did I just get ultra lucky or is it not that dangerous after all?

Should do a run where you explore for all the bases. It's a ton of fun and honestly reading all the lore is good. Shall we say, a loregasm. Def will see a lot of reapers if you do that. But the cyclops makes it pretty easy.

CostaNic · OP · 2 years ago

Do you mean the alien bases? I believe I went to all of them.

1 upvotes on reddit
straw_hat_coding · 2 years ago

Ah, yeah, meaning all the alien bases. I know quite a few have reapers patrol near them. I used the subnautica map to see how many it had as a general guide to make sure I scanned and seen everything on one of my early runs. Was fun.

2 upvotes on reddit
Richard_Feeler · 2 years ago

There's just alot of reapers around. The only one that's kind of hard to avoid if you get close to it is the one right at the back as the terrain is kind of bowl shaped but otherwise it's pretty easy to just stay out of the way unless you go zooming through at full speed inna cyclops while launching lure beacons the whole way

1 upvotes on reddit
C
CostaNic · OP · 2 years ago

Ah. I think for the most part I went near the front of the ship.

1 upvotes on reddit
straw_hat_coding · 2 years ago

One patrols the front too, like you can see it when you're at the front of it looking with the ship to your back. You got lucky or it got distracted and wandered off. One at the back tends to get close to the safe shallows when you play for an extended amount of time, or it has for me a couple runs.

1 upvotes on reddit
phcgamer · 2 years ago

Not getting attacked makes sense if you just beeline to the first gap in the front of the Aurora. What I don't understand is not even seeing Sammy on your way in or out. Maybe it was just tunnel-vision on your part, having not seen Sammy due to being focused on entering the ship and not knowing of his existence. Yeah, that's probably it. Happened to me on my first trip to the Aurora as well.

There is one that lives in the area your screen shows.

But thinking it’s “the” leviathan, singular, is going to make for a very interesting time in the water for you.

As a starter tip without spilling too many details, around that area, the murkier the water, the more open your eyes should be.

It’s a fantastic game and if this is your first play through, even if you used to watch stuff, I would HIGHLY recommend not dipping into the internet as you journey. I’ve played games since games were a stick and a ball bouncing around. This is one of a handful I wish I could play again blind.

6 upvotes on reddit
EpicGamerBoy111112 · 3 months ago

Yep, but sadly for me I was too scared of the reapers and ended up looking things up just so I didn't encounter them. I even have a map of all leviathan locations (from reddit), and to the OP, yeah don't look things up, it takes the fun of exploration out of it. And about me with the reapers, I ain't scared of em anymore. If one of them rushes you, use stasis rifle and aim for right behind the face

2 upvotes on reddit
Legendofstuff · 3 months ago

First playthrough I was scared shitless of em too.

I think that’s part of the beauty of the game though, after years of COD style you can kill anything you find games.

Yeah you can kill the leviathans but the way the game gives you other options to get around them is fantastic. The choice is there, and that’s beautiful. Not often it happens anymore.

That said, I have beaten them all quite viscerally through other playthroughs too, I’m no reaper-hugger. Payback is a bitch.

I’m already afraid of the ocean and venturing out beyond the safe shallows. I though you could just enter the aurora by the back and heard a roar before being eaten by a Levithan Reaper. I found a map with Levithan spawn locations and I’m still scared to go to the floating islands near the aurora . I saw a deep drop off and I instantly wanted to swim away. Saw a wreck and got picture frame so that’s nice

What's in the crash zone in subnautica

In Subnautica, the Crash Zone is a biome located near the starting area of the game. Here are some key considerations and takeaways about this area:

Key Features of the Crash Zone:

  1. Location:

    • The Crash Zone is situated near the Aurora, the crashed spaceship. It is characterized by its shallow waters and debris from the ship.
  2. Resources:

    • Materials: You can find various resources such as Titanium, Copper Ore, and Quartz among the wreckage.
    • Blueprints: Look for blueprints for items like the Repair Tool and the Scanner, which are essential for progressing in the game.
  3. Creatures:

    • Fauna: Be cautious of aggressive creatures like the Stalker and Reefback. The Stalker can be particularly dangerous if you venture too close to its territory.
    • Flora: You may also encounter various types of kelp and other underwater plants.
  4. Hazards:

    • Radiation: The area is affected by radiation from the Aurora. Make sure to equip a Radiation Suit if you plan to explore near the wreck.
    • Predators: Be aware of hostile creatures that can attack you, so keep an eye on your health and oxygen levels.
  5. Exploration Tips:

    • Use a Scanner: Scanning items and creatures can provide valuable information and unlock new crafting recipes.
    • Be Prepared: Bring extra oxygen tanks and health kits to ensure you can explore safely.

Recommendation:

To maximize your exploration in the Crash Zone, consider crafting a Seaglide for faster movement and better maneuverability. This will help you navigate through the debris and avoid predators more effectively.
