TL;DR The Crash Zone is a dangerous area surrounding the wreck of the Aurora, populated by Reaper Leviathans and containing valuable resources like Cyclops parts.
Dangerous Creatures
The Crash Zone is notorious for its population of Reaper Leviathans, which are aggressive creatures that can pose a significant threat to players [4:1]. These leviathans tend to spawn continuously, making the area perpetually dangerous
[4:7]. Players have reported encounters with Reapers attacking from below, adding to the terrifying experience
[5:3].
Valuable Resources
Despite the dangers, the Crash Zone offers valuable resources that make it worth exploring. Cyclops parts can be found scattered around the area [4:5], and the Aurora itself contains important items necessary for game progression
[4:2]. Exploring the Crash Zone can be risky but rewarding for those seeking these materials.
Exploration Strategy
To minimize risks while exploring the Crash Zone, players can stay at surface level to avoid direct encounters with Reapers [5:7]. Utilizing tools like the stasis rifle can help temporarily immobilize threats, allowing players to attach floaters or toxin pods to them
[5:9]. However, caution is advised as the Reapers use echolocation, meaning if you can hear them, they can see you
[5:6].
Alternative Exploration Areas
For players who find the Crash Zone too daunting, there are other areas to explore for similar rewards. The Koosh Zone and Jellyshroom Cave contain fragments and resources that may be easier to obtain without the constant threat of Reapers [5:2]. Additionally, building bases in less hostile regions like the Sparse Reef can offer a safer exploration experience
[3:8].
Pretty sure you just went into subnautica below zero and found one and forgot you werent playing the normal one
They removed the sea emperors from BZ for the new story
How do you forget what game you are playing.
How do you not get when ppl are kidding or joking
Hmm crash zone in below zero
You might have entered the crag field.
What's that? I'm kinda new to the game so I don't know much
Big spoilers. Try to forget that you saw this.
It stuffs you into its mouth.
Oh so that's not a bug
co tam děla sea emperor to je below zero

So I want to build another secret/hidden base in the south-east region of the map, my first thought was deep Crag Field but the bone sharks are so many, so how about the farthest crash zone? Do reapers still roam there or even adult ghost? Or it’s empty like Sparse Reef..??
No reapers there. You may find one on your way there, though
Looks like a great spot to build scanner room!
Edit: I mean observation room if there’s any chance I could detect ghost leviathan around the edge (which already sounds terrifying tbh)
Ah yes, in a corner of the map where 3/4 of the range is in the void
Tbf, you can absolutely get there without running into a reaper. You just travel through the cragfield until you hit void, then follow the edge north.
This. Great area for titanium.
That's the cloaca. When the crater runs into another crater, they will touch cloacas and another crater will be born a few million years later.
So when a mommy crater and a daddy crater love eachother very much...
So Grand Reef is Texas then..
I was thinking Mexico and the crag field between the two was the gulf of Mexico but I think I like texas better lmao
is norway the below zero map then?
Explains a lot.
Go there and find out. 🤷♀️ This game is all about exploring.
Hey all, is it worth exploring reaper territory by the Aurora? I enjoyed exploring the Dunes wrecks with the PRAWN Suit, little nerve wracking with the warpers.
Anything worthwhile down there? Wrecks and such?
Yes, but only for the Aurora, as it contains important things in it that will help you complete the game. Only reason to go exploring the entire area is because you would want to risk losing your life over materials and parts that are found elsewhere on the map.
I've conquered the Dunes and the Void. The Crash Zone (all the way back) is my next endeavor.
They go away if you go into a glass observatory. That might give you a bit of time before they return.
Oh yeah, totally. When I was building that portion out, I would always start there, then rush out of the hatch as fast as I could, lol.
How many ghost leviathans are there in the void?
Three at any given time, but it's never-ending, so they never stop spawning, even if you kill one.
Cyclops parts lay around it. And inside the aurora itself...yes...worth it
Other than the Aurora itself? No.
It depends. How much of your enjoyment of the game is based on 1) exploring the biomes in a chill fashion, or 2) dangling from a Reaper in a Prawn suit laughing maniacally whilst you try to bring the SKULLDRILL to bear on its face?
If the answer is 1) I'd stay well away from the Crash Zone, if it's 2) go wild with it.
The Crash Zone is one of several zones where, if you're just following the story and doing some light side-exploring, you never really ever need to go there. If you just stay on the surface when you head over to the Aurora, you won't attract the Reapers either.
Yo why can't I find the other piece of the stasis rifle
Check wrecks in the koosh zone and a certain structure deeper in jellyshroom cave, there should be some stasis rifle fragments there.
There's like 3 fragments on the floating island
I randomly got the stasis rifle after putting blood oil in a chest, gave the the rifle and the blueprint, what happened there?
Posted about the same thing earlier this week. Keep checking wrecks. I only got one fragment on the floating island. I checked some other wrecks (Bulb zone) and finally found it along with my last cyclops piece.
I just stay at surface level. The only time I've seen them near the Aurora is on the ocean floor
I've been encountered one that has come up from the back of the Aurora and attacked me while I tried to swim to surface.
All it does is make it that much more terrifying because they come up from under you.
I think they hang out at around 50 meters, give or take, unless a sandshark or stalker spots their eye. Ive seen some go for sandsharks multiple times.
I killed a reaper leviathan today. It took 80% of my stasis rifle's battery.
You can stasis rifle them and throw a ton of those toxin pods at them too that's how I bagged me a sea dragon
I've always wondered, but never tried. What happens if you stasis rifle them and stick a bunch of floaters on them?
If you scan the reaper >!databank explains that it has echolocation and says!<
>!"If you can hear it, it can see you."!<
I read so many things about how terrifying it is to go to Aurora and how some people sacrifice their seamoth so of course I was scared 💩less every time I went there (about four times) but somehow…I never got attacked. I’ve never even seen whatever is in there. Did I just get ultra lucky or is it not that dangerous after all?
Should do a run where you explore for all the bases. It's a ton of fun and honestly reading all the lore is good. Shall we say, a loregasm. Def will see a lot of reapers if you do that. But the cyclops makes it pretty easy.
Do you mean the alien bases? I believe I went to all of them.
Ah, yeah, meaning all the alien bases. I know quite a few have reapers patrol near them. I used the subnautica map to see how many it had as a general guide to make sure I scanned and seen everything on one of my early runs. Was fun.
There's just alot of reapers around. The only one that's kind of hard to avoid if you get close to it is the one right at the back as the terrain is kind of bowl shaped but otherwise it's pretty easy to just stay out of the way unless you go zooming through at full speed inna cyclops while launching lure beacons the whole way
Ah. I think for the most part I went near the front of the ship.
One patrols the front too, like you can see it when you're at the front of it looking with the ship to your back. You got lucky or it got distracted and wandered off. One at the back tends to get close to the safe shallows when you play for an extended amount of time, or it has for me a couple runs.
Not getting attacked makes sense if you just beeline to the first gap in the front of the Aurora. What I don't understand is not even seeing Sammy on your way in or out. Maybe it was just tunnel-vision on your part, having not seen Sammy due to being focused on entering the ship and not knowing of his existence. Yeah, that's probably it. Happened to me on my first trip to the Aurora as well.
I didn’t see him!! I’m not sure what he looks like. But I also swam mostly on the surface because I was scared lmao. Might go in now just to say hi to him.
Same here mate. Only time I saw Sammy and family was when I got lost in the kelp forest south of the crash. On my second playthrough now and had to go look for them on purpose
Hey so my first play through I land here. I used to watch some videos. Isn’t this where the leviathan is?
There is one that lives in the area your screen shows.
But thinking it’s “the” leviathan, singular, is going to make for a very interesting time in the water for you.
As a starter tip without spilling too many details, around that area, the murkier the water, the more open your eyes should be.
It’s a fantastic game and if this is your first play through, even if you used to watch stuff, I would HIGHLY recommend not dipping into the internet as you journey. I’ve played games since games were a stick and a ball bouncing around. This is one of a handful I wish I could play again blind.
Yep, but sadly for me I was too scared of the reapers and ended up looking things up just so I didn't encounter them. I even have a map of all leviathan locations (from reddit), and to the OP, yeah don't look things up, it takes the fun of exploration out of it. And about me with the reapers, I ain't scared of em anymore. If one of them rushes you, use stasis rifle and aim for right behind the face
First playthrough I was scared shitless of em too.
I think that’s part of the beauty of the game though, after years of COD style you can kill anything you find games.
Yeah you can kill the leviathans but the way the game gives you other options to get around them is fantastic. The choice is there, and that’s beautiful. Not often it happens anymore.
That said, I have beaten them all quite viscerally through other playthroughs too, I’m no reaper-hugger. Payback is a bitch.
No that's where all the good stuff is, lots of titanium to the right of it
even more at the back of it
Technically, you are not wrong
I know this ain’t a screen shot OP but the quality’s good so we are gonna let this slide for now
As for your question, be careful at the front and back
he should go to the back
Flair checks out
Go closer
New who?
"Lifeform readings in this region are sparse. The Aurora's radioactive fallout will have devastating effects on the alien ecosystem if not contained within the next 24 hours."
Then we take some 19 in-game days to deal with it, of course.
My theory is that a day on 4546B is a lot shorter cause it spins around faster so 24 hours on 4546B are 24 hours on earth but a day on 4546B is a lot less
"Oooh! A part of Cyclops! Better scan it now!" Distant roaring "Uh oh."
I’m already afraid of the ocean and venturing out beyond the safe shallows. I though you could just enter the aurora by the back and heard a roar before being eaten by a Levithan Reaper. I found a map with Levithan spawn locations and I’m still scared to go to the floating islands near the aurora . I saw a deep drop off and I instantly wanted to swim away. Saw a wreck and got picture frame so that’s nice
Same. This game is so good, but for people with ocean phobia's, it's the best horror game out there. You never get used to it lol
"Remember: If you can hear it, it can see you."
This ecological biome meets 99999 of the 9 preconditions for stimulating terror in humans.
thats blood kelp
Nah, blood kelp only meets 7 of the 9 preconditions smh
Nice I love this one!
Run
DEW NU NU NU NU NU NU NU NU
Does anyone else hear yelling? Like, from under the water?
Detecting several Leviathan life forms in the region. Are you certain whatever you're doing is worth it?
I played this level today after many years and was wondering why there is an underwater creature in my memories from back then but it's not here. After a couple minutes I suddenly found it 😂
This is a classic bug for sure
lmao howw
Cardi b voice what is thaaaat
That was literally my response 😂😂😂
Go home fish, you're drunk
LOL. I'm sure this is a bug
