TL;DR Casinos generally have a casual dress code, except for clubs and high-end restaurants where dressing up might be required. Comfort is key, and jeans with a nice top are usually acceptable.
General Dress Code
Most casinos have relaxed dress codes, allowing patrons to wear casual attire such as jeans and t-shirts [2:3]
[5:3]. While some people may choose to dress up in suits or dresses, it's not necessary unless you're visiting high roller rooms or exclusive clubs
[3:1]
[2:2]. The primary expectation is that you are dressed decently, but there is no strict enforcement of formal attire
[4:1].
Specific Locations and Times
In places like Monaco, wearing shorts and a t-shirt during the day is acceptable, especially if you're just visiting the casino shop [1:1]
[1:2]. Similarly, Niagara casinos are quite casual, with jeans and a nice top being perfectly fine
[5:1]. However, if you plan to dine at a fancy restaurant within the casino, it might be worth dressing up a bit more
[5:1].
Vegas Specifics
In Las Vegas, the dress code is very casual, and you will see a wide range of outfits from tank tops to suits [2:3]. It's advisable to bring comfortable walking shoes and possibly a light sweater or jacket for cooler evenings
[2:5]. Clubs and higher-end venues might require more formal attire, so checking ahead is recommended
[2:5].
Common Misconceptions
Many people associate casinos with the glamorous portrayals seen in movies like James Bond, expecting tuxedos and evening gowns [5:2]. In reality, casinos prioritize comfort and accessibility over formality, and you'll often find patrons dressed casually

Good evening,
I will be attending Monaco tomorrow and would like to attend the casino shop.
I would be wearing shorts and a t shirt nothing smart as I will be walking a lot exploring during the day. From what I can see to enter the shop of the casino this would be fine.
Anyone able to confirm this?
Thank you :)
That’s pretty much what I wore during an afternoon visit to that casino. You should be fine
Cheers :)
The casino shop is in the foyer, so you'll be fine. Also, nobody cares much how you dress when the casino is closed.
I'm going to the NFL draft in late April. For that, I figure jeans and a football jersey or jeans and a t-shirt would be fine for that.
But I also want to hit up a show or two (maybe a magic show, a comedian, or a band) and definitely a casino.
What's appropriate for a show? Is that like a Worthington floral blouse kind of thing? Is that more of a shiny top kind of thing? Or is it a casual t-shirt kind of thing? Slacks? Khakis? Jeans? Shorts?
What about casinos? Is that expected to be a button-down shirt and tie kind of thing? Are they less formal than that?
Is the late-April weather usually warm enough for a skirt or cargo shorts? Or will I need something warmer?
Any help would be appreciated.
The only time you have to worry about casino dress codes is if you go to one of the clubs. They usually do have some kind of dress code.
At both shows and at casinos, you will find people in suits / dresses and also tank tops and flip flops.
Vegas has no dress code except for clubs and nicer restaurants.
Not sure about specific shows but casinos DO NOT CARE what you wear lol. I’ve seen some ridiculous get ups and no one bats an eye… they just want your money lol..
You might need a light sweater or jacket is fine. Vegas is pretty casual. The higher end places will require a jacket, tie but for the most part casual is fine. Bring comfortable walking shoes and when on the strip watch your purse and men should put their wallet in front pocket.
What high end place are you talking about?
As long as your money spends you can wear whatever you want to the casino.
None. Walk in anyway you feel comfortable. You're not James Bond.
I heard they have strict dress codes and some one like me cant just walk in wearing his polo shirt and jeans
Depends what you're doing.
Just going in to play some slots, some tables, and probably lose all your money? Come as you are.
Going to the high roller rooms, and there is a good chance of walking out with mkre than 6 zeros? Should probably dress up a little.
A tuxedo, monocle, tall hat and crocs
Trash-casual
Diaper (hopefully) under the clothes, sturdy handbag for the quarters, runny mascara long overdue for a touch-up, vacant stare that sees nothing but the screen.
Excuse me but i find ur comment extremely transphobic and offensive. Whats wrong with a man wearing mascara and having a hand bag. Dont use the suffering of trans people for ur childish joke
My apologies for failing to offend all genders equally. I'll try harder next time.
White trash chic
???
Wife beater, basketball shorts, and crocks. Bonus points for chain smoking and drinking bud lite
Do you have to dress nice to the casino? As in a dress for girls and dress pants + shirt for guys? Can you go in a flannel and jeans? Does it depend on what time you go?
Or am I watching too much James Bond for me to think this way. Cheers!
First time I went was with my flatmates we got dressed up all nice because we assumed that was the thing to do. Then we got there and quickly realized there is no real dress code as long as you're decent. We felt completely overdressed and a bit out of place.
Wear whatever you're comfortable in. I'm sure there's a dress code on paper somewhere but from what I've seen in there I don't think its ever enforced.
The dress code is money, money that you're going to lose...
My wife and I dressed up probably 10+ years ago as we thought there was some kind of dress code. Went in to find people in ratty old jeans and rugby jerseys. Must have been not profitable enough with the dress code so just let anyone in now.
Pretty sure there was a pretty strict dress code when it first opened. Nothing like that now.
Yeah, must need to relax standards to get punters through the door.
You might not of won a million bucks, but bet you were both feeling like it 😉
I went in wearing jeans and a t-shirt last week. Was pretty dead tbh
you should see the state of some of the people in there. If you have purchased clothes in the last 2-3 years you will get in
We went and it has completely changed. People were in shorts and tshirts and the food was nasty.
hi! me and a couple friends are thinking about going to niagara and visiting the casinos, is there a dress code? what's the general expectation?
we all thought james bond movies were real life and casinos were classy..
reality is winnie the pooh jackets and oxygen tanks.. lol
No code. I've seen mostly casual like jeans and tshirts.
Tuxedos only, super high class, there's definitely not a ton of advanced age adults sitting in piles of there own shit contained only by sweatpants...
Not real tuxedos, though. It the T-Shirts printed to look like a real one.
In the soft lighting you can hardly tell.
Every time you go to a casino, understand that somebody is likely wearing an adult diaper so they don't have to give up a "lucky" machine or spot at a table
And that someone has likely peed on the seat you just sat in at some point.
Niagara casinos are pretty casual, jeans and a nice top are totally fine. If you’re dining somewhere fancy, dress it up a bit. Personally, I skip the hassle and play online on Lottoland, where my dress code is sweatpants and zero shame.
I’m going to the casino on Saturday night with some friends for one of their birthdays and I don’t know what to wear. I’m a female so if it was spring or summer I’d wear a dress but it’ll be freezing cold outside.
It's pretty casual there. Clean and tidy is good enough. Bear in mind its R20 and the younger you are the harder they tend to be on you if you look pissed.
Our group is 22/23 so hopefully won’t be too much trouble. I don’t know how much they’ll be drinking though.
Leave the bottles and attitude in the uber, it’ll be fine.
Jeans and hoodie will be fine. Dress code was only from way back.
That have to be like brand new condition though. Hubby didn't get in because his pants looked "too worn out"... even though he was in a dress shirt and nice shoes, he was also the sober driver. And there was people in sweat pants and runners inside 🙄 so stupid
That’s never fine.
There are no standards anymore. You could probably walk in with a hi vis and still be let in.
There was a dude still wearing his full motorbike leathers (think race suit, not just leather jacket), the other day. I think hi vis would be considered too formal
The first year it opened was comical, you would see all these people in their ill fitting oxfam suits, all looking very ill at ease. It was supposed to make the place look smart, but it was more like the waiting room of a magistrates court.
It’s not the 1900s you don’t have to wear a dress.
You can get in with jeans (without rips) these days.. it’s very relaxed now
Are you the hoodie type, got a nice shirt or something else, just curious as I never been to a poker room and dont think the multimillion tournaments on TV is a great indicator what 1/2-5/10 people have on while playing
The thing I always wear when in the poker room is deodorant. I really wish this was universal.
I’ll second this…
Naked. Puts them on tilt every time.
That’s my uniform to online poker 100%
Nothing special. A wizards hat, monocle, and chaps with spurs. But with no boots.
I dress comfortably. Some days it’s a giant sweatshirt and leggings, some days it’s a loose dress and a cardigan. Other days, it’s jeans and a sweater.
There’s no right answer; just wear whatever you like!
Tuxedo, slicked back hair is the only way to play. Matching pocket square is KEY. People have lost all respect for the game, I blame smartphones personally. Hang on they're calling my name at the 1/2
I often go to the casino after black tie functions and I have to say: wearing a dinner jacket gives you a great whale image. You will get loose calls for at least the first half hour.
Looking to go to a live poker room soon with the boys and want to know what i can wear to get action.
If you're on the strip, dress like you're going to the club and killing time making a quick bad financial decision before a big one.
I live in vegas and literally this.. wear clubbing attire and some light shaded sunglasses that barely cover your eyes so they think you're extra stupid lol
When you sit down at the 1/3 table pull out a wad of at least 3K and ask what the max buyin is.
Played online for years, first time in-person I showed up in bright pink shorts that were about mid-thigh, a bright blue short-sleeve button down, the most obnoxiously large watch I have, and knockoff Oakley Holbrooks. That combined with 100% not knowing how to be at a physical table in Vegas made me fish #1.
Won the first hand, "Wow this is cool! Must be beginner's luck!"
That was the only time I made money the whole trip (was my only poker day).
I usually go with a speedo, swim goggles, and a water hat. Make them think you just came from the pool and are on vacation.
yeah, OP do this one. we are going to need photos tho
Tell them you’re just there to splash around
Cowboy hat on top of a hoodie that opens to reveal a tshirt of Tom Dwan as a Pokemon.
that's sounds like an outfit an alien would wear to vegas to try and fit in.
“I review hands on Reddit” t-shirt
Make a t shirt with a giant Tom Dwan on it. I’m not even kidding.
Soon is gonna be my first time live poker session in a casino and a friend of mine I'm going with said you "need" to dress looking good and respect the place you can't just come with some sport shorts.
I think that's bullshit but I want to hear your opinions guys.
EDIT: The casino is in Europe. Prague to be exact.
I've spent a lot of time in dozens of poker rooms over the last 20 years. Whoever told you people dress up for it has clearly not.
Lots of casinos in europe have actual dresscodes but yeah I literally wear my pj pants when i go lol
A buttplug is the only essential live poker room accessory.
Username checks out
Suit and tie is required at my home games
He means birthday suit and tie dye headband i think?
Bring long sleeves bc it could be freezing in there and you will be uncomfortable
If I'm cold I ask for a side of mashed potatoes. Warms me up from the inside, and are really easy to eat at the poker table.
I've never heard of anybody using mashed potatoes over putting a jumper on, that's great hahaha
This is the only reasonable answer... where whatever you want, but they prolly got the thermostat set at like 66.
When it comes to the poker table I’m going to say all of the above. Except maybe pubic. It’s not really poker if I’m not touching muff.
It depends where you are going. I’ve heard some European Casinos have strict dress codes, but I’ve never heard of one in North America.
I personally never wear shorts to play poker. If the person on either side of you is also wearing shorts, you will inevitably touch leg hairs, which grosses me out. Other than that, dress comfortably in clean clothes.
Me and my girlfriend will be visiting Monaco the week of 21st-27th April. We’d like to visit the Casino de Monte Carlo in the afternoon for a little while to play on the tables (probably 3-4pm), and I have been looking around the internet for specific dress code guidelines. I haven’t been able to find much consistency. I’ll be wearing shirt and trousers, but am unsure if I’ll need a jacket or darker clothes to play table games. Anybody know if this is the case now? My girlfriend will be in a dress and heels anyway so she’ll likely be fine.
Thankyou for any help😊
In the morning There is no specific dress code required for entry in the morning (historical visit + photos of the venue).
In the afternoon Once the gaming tables are open (at 2pm), photos are strictly prohibited as there are players present, which is more understandable. As for the dress code, only appropriate attire is requested—so no beachwear (swimsuits, flip-flops), no ripped jeans, and no sportswear (tracksuits, running shoes).
Is it possible to enter with shorts and t-shirts for men in the morning visit?
Thankyou for the help, I will certainly be out of my beach clothes haha. Wasn’t aware of the photo rule though, thankyou for letting me know! (Should’ve been common sense on my behalf probably)
Any update now that you've gone? My husband and I will be there in a few weeks. I'm planning to wear a cocktail dress for evening, but my husband isn't bringing a jacket. He would be in nice linen trousers and button down shirt thought - sound appropriate?
Não é o ideal, calças de linho e camisa é para ir para a praia!
I regularly see people being let in while looking like absolute vagrants.
The standards are vague because there is a great deal of discretion given to the staff. There is a minimal standard for entry, but the better you dress, the better treatment you will receive. I advise gentlemen to wear jackets, dress shirt, and nice slacks with dress shoes. You will be welcome at all gaming tables and bars. You may even be invited to a private room.
Wear evening wear, and you will be greeted with approving smiles by both staff and guests.
I see - thankyou for the advice. I was looking to not bring a jacket simply due to the heat but I think I will now under your recommendation

What to wear to a casino
Key Considerations for Casino Attire:
Dress Code: Check the specific casino's dress code. Some casinos have strict guidelines, while others are more relaxed. Upscale casinos often require smart casual or formal attire.
Smart Casual: For most casinos, smart casual is a safe bet. This can include dress pants or nice jeans, a collared shirt, and closed-toe shoes. Avoid overly casual items like flip-flops or sweatpants.
Formal Attire: If you're visiting a high-end casino or attending a special event, consider wearing a cocktail dress or a suit. Men might opt for a blazer and dress shoes.
Comfort: Choose comfortable clothing and shoes, especially if you plan to spend several hours there. You want to look good but also feel at ease while playing or walking around.
Accessories: Consider adding a nice watch or jewelry to elevate your look. However, keep it tasteful and not overly flashy.
Recommendation: If you're unsure, aim for a polished smart casual look. For men, a pair of tailored trousers with a button-up shirt and loafers works well. For women, a stylish dress or a blouse with tailored pants and heels is a great choice. This way, you'll feel confident and appropriately dressed for the casino atmosphere.
