Character Overview
Mark Grayson, also known as Invincible, is the protagonist of the comic series "Invincible" created by Robert Kirkman. Mark's journey involves growing into his powers, dealing with personal and planetary threats, and navigating the complexities of being a hero [2:1]
[3:1].
Strength and Abilities
Mark's strength and abilities are a central theme in the series. As a Viltrumite, he possesses immense strength, durability, and the ability to fly. However, his power levels can appear inconsistent due to his tendency to hold back to avoid killing or severely injuring opponents [2:2]. His strength grows as he matures and trains, making him one of the most powerful characters in the universe

Role in the Series
Throughout the series, Mark faces various challenges that test his morals and resolve. He often finds himself in situations where he must balance his human upbringing with his Viltrumite heritage. His character development includes learning to harness his powers responsibly and dealing with the consequences of his actions [4:4].
Comparison to Other Universes
In hypothetical scenarios, such as replacing Peter Parker in the MCU, Mark would be among the most powerful characters due to his Viltrumite abilities. He could potentially defeat many of the MCU's villains and heroes without much difficulty [3:1]
[3:4]. His strength and durability make him comparable to characters like Superman in terms of raw power
[3:9].
Cultural Impact
Mark Grayson has become a symbol of hope and resilience for fans of the series. His story resonates with audiences due to his relatable struggles and growth as a character. Despite being fictional, he inspires admiration for his courage and determination [4:2].
Thanks!
This is not a rant and it's not reducing my enjoyment of the series (IT'S FREAKING GOOD) but like the title says I'd like someone to open my eyes on the matter.
I get some things are done for plot reasons, but can someone tell me an estimate of his base strength and whether his powers will keep fluctuating as the show goes on?
I think his strength is consistent since he's fighting other superpowered individuals.
This also isn't your typical show/comic where they power up when they get angry. The 'greater power' that's shown when Mark rages is just him being more aggressive and fighting harder. It doesn't lead to harder hits, just better ones.
Mark also holds back his full strength sometimes since he's cautious about severely injuring or killing people. He's also basically a baby Viltrumite since he just got his powers and needs to actually train them to get stronger.
When the bully guy was punching him in ep 1. He felt the first punch but he kept getting tougher as the bully kept going.
Also in ep 2 when he was trapped in the quick dry cement thing which was designed to counter him when he got angry he managed to break it like it was nothing. Rage boost is a crude term but him getting really mad does visibly make him stronger.
I also get the holding back part but remember in ep 5 when he yells "You are fucking dead" I thought he was gonna go for the kill like Omniman did with the Guardians of the galaxy, but in retrospect I could be taking things too literally
In episode 1 it seemed like he hadn’t taken a hit in his life. It wasn’t until his dad punched the shit out of him that he went back and took it like a champ showing that the bully wasn’t actually hurting him. I’d say it was more of an emotional response like when he explains to Nolan that he was scared of being hit, but he could physically handle it. It just took some mental adjustment.
And who’s to say how strong that cement shit that the aliens hit him with was, plus it was the first time he ever had anything like that happen to him, and he was traumatized from the carnage of the first alien attack, specifically when he injured the old lady he was trying to save.
I think they do a great job showing how strong he physically is while at the same time adjusting to the new lifestyle from a mental standpoint. It’s a major plot point with him dealing with his emotional human side vs his OP viltrumite side.
So, spoilers
>!Not inconsistent, just...relative. Mark is a traditional hero at the moment. He doesn't believe in killing people and would have a breakdown if he did. However, being a viltrumite, he could do so if he cuts lose. Even in his rage, he doesn't hit people that hard. If, for example, he did then everyone in that room save for battle beast would have been cracked in half. Mark is also still training, as he's literally a baby. Mark is 17 and viltrumites age slowly and slower the older they get. They live thousands of years. Mark is also more than 99% viltrumite for two reasons that the show will get into. Mark has baby viltrumite strength that must be cultivated and trained. So, if Mark hit harder: the flaxan leader would have been dead. Titan in his appearance in the first episode? Dead. Cannon arm guy? Super dead. Wolf face lady, dead. Doc Sesimic, dead. Battle Beast...amused and annoyed that Mark dares.!<
tl;dr - Mark doesn't like killing and doesn't see that as heroic as it's not the model that Mark based Invincible on.
Yes, I'm going there. I'm honestly not sure Battle Beast is as powerful as a lot of people here think he is at this point in the story. I think Nolan could wreck him. Not as sure about Mark
read the comics. put respect on his name- no one else in the story can do what he did, period.
Have you read the comics or are you speculating?
Spoiler! In the comics, (Not gonna say who it happens to) >!But he accidentally kills (not really) a villain because he thought they were stronger than they actually are. Eventually, later on in the comics, you see he's wayyy stronger than lead to believe when he goes into full fuck-it mode. He could solo Earth before Robot built his anti-Viltrumite army at the end, but you'd never see that because he holds back so damn much.!<
Mark is still growing into his powers/abilities. While also building up his combat skills, also take into account he still holds back a lot. It clear to see why his strength would appear to be inconsistent to some. But it's not.
It's never super consistent in the comics, but the cat guy he fought in episode five is way stronger in the comics than the rest of the thugs. He's like, Omni-Man level.
Titan is incredibly strong. Not Mark as he is atm strong, but I believe he's in the 20 ish ton range. Like, twice as strong as Spider-Man, who is pretty damn strong.
The only issue is ep5 makes Titan feel less durable than he should be, I dont think an LMG would chip away at his armour that easily.
As for the Flaxxan, Mark was about to go for a kill strike and stopped to pull the thing off of Eve's face.
Normally he’s a 40-50 ton after he turned 17 although he does become 100 tons with a whole lot of adrenaline but mark is about 400 tons
So Let's say that Mark had a pretty similar uprising to MCU Pete, with a few differences.
Firstly, Mark lived with his parents like a normal kid in New York, until a burglar came in and shot Nolan killing him (For Simplicity's sake let's say he had powers when he was younger but somehow lost them).
This leads to Debbie having to raise Mark on her own, and when he hits 17, his powers kick in for the first time and she explains his Viltrumite origins to him, Mark then sets out to become a great hero and prevent others from sharing his fate.
What Would happen with Mark replacing Peter? could he get as far as Pete did? How would the Avengers act with him around?
Mark beats all of Spiderman's villains no diff, he wins the whole civil war event for Tony or cap not sure who he'd side with by himself. Thanos never gets his first snap off. Basically he'd be among the most powerful avengers if not the most powerful with only Thor at the top of his game, captain marvel, strange etc being near him. He'd have alot if respect for the avengers but become more cocky when he realises he's so strong compared to most of them. I think he'd be the one they call to reign hulk in when he rampages being able to just fly him miles away from anywhere with lots of people and fight him till he calms down probably becoming good friends with hulk and banner.
Thor has better Thermal durability with the Star feat but Invincible outstats pretty much everyone else in every physical category.
Invincible survives a straight dive into the sun
Mark would probably side with Cap after what happened in Invincibles fight with Angstrom Levy
Mark. Pretty much as soon as he gets his powers, there are only a handful of people who can possibly stand a chance.
Thor, Captain Marvel (particularly if we allow blending with What If versions that shouldn't be too different from the Prime version), magic users, etc.
Mark pretty easily. He’s way stronger than Hulk. He’s also way more durable considering he took a punch from Omni-Man that sent him flying many miles. Hulk’s leviathan punch has nothing on that.
I mean by the end of the comics >!Mark and Omni-man punch a dude through a planet!<
That was Mark, Omniman, and >!Thaddeus!<, not just Mark and Omniman. Also, >!Space Racer's laser loosened it up for them,!< like a jar of space pickles, so it isn't totally clear how much of the work the Viltrumites were actually doing.
IMO, no one in the MCU can really compare to Supe's strength level, which is where Mark seems to be.
Yeah, depending on Invincible’s resistance to magic, Thor and Strange could definitely hurt him, but anyone after that, I’m not sure. Especially if the dude is actually trying to kill them.
> He's not particularly smart so Strange could contain him.
Can Strange react to someone as fast as Invincible though? He's just a human physically.
Did you watch invincible? Mark would absolutely destroy everyone in the entire MCU without breaking a sweat.
The marvel comics have a lot stronger characters, but he absolutely wipes the floor with the MCU.
see this is where it gets a bit creepy
How is this creepy?
I’m not gay for him, I just think he’s really cool.
There’s little kids that feel the same way about Spider-Man.
I mean, who doesn’t like Spider-Man?
He's a drawing
Let a guy have his moment, damn it. 😠
Based on the evidence I have gathered, I have come to the conclusion that Mark Grayson might be Invincible.
Bro one of the guys isn’t even Invincible thats Invinciboy. I mean just think it through before making accusations like this next time
I went to college with Mark Grayson. He had no athletic abilities and came across as a very soft kid. You could tell he was such a sweet guy. We used to joke about him surely being a mummy's boy. There's no chance in hell a guy who could barely run the length of a football field turns out to be Invincible.
This is funny because S1 Mark definitely has football jock vibes.
Mark was a dork. He had the pretty classic "can truly stand up for myself now" arc there.
I think Todd was the jock. Mark wore a sweater over a collared shirt and it was half untucked all season long
Right in the Invinciballs 💀, this Mark guy is brutal
Why is a picture of invinciboy on here?
Seriously though when they said invinciboy I thought they were talking about Oliver
Oliver should be called Omni kid, it bothers me so much.
Right, and Peter Parker is Spiderman... 🙄
You mean Agent-Spider?
Is he? Really?
I was thinking in Death Battle lately, and was wondering: Who is the best character to oppose Gohan? Because no Superman character is similar to him outside of Jonathan Kent, and even then the similarity is quite superflous as Gohan is a grown man at the end of the series and Dragon Ball Super. I also don't want to put Jonathan in any fight.
However, I noticed that Mark Grayson from Invincible is more similar to him that you think.
- Both are the sons of the Superman analogue, or if you don't want the Superman comparison, the world strongest hero.

- Both love their superheroism (Mark is idealistic and believes in old school superheroism at first, while Gohan loves his secret identity as the great Saiyaman despite everyone telling him is stupid)

- Both are half-breeds from a race classified as the strongest in the universe. In fact both races sent a member of theirs to conquer planets (Saiyans sells them, but whatever)

They also have some similar ocurrences in their stories:

- Both fought a giant juggernaut from their own race, and their girlfriends/wifes were both involved (Mark fought against Conquest alongside Atom-Eve, while Gohan fought Broly alongside his brother and Videl in the old Z movies)

However, there are some differences:
- Despite starting as an idealistic teenager, Mark ended up in a very dark universe with the most serious elements of the superhero world taking away a lot of his idealism (Friends and family ended up dead in gruesome ways, being proven wrong when he trusted an extremist villain) while Gohan idealism has never being broken, despite everything that happened between Z and Super.

- Both of them and their moms ended up living alone due to their fathers leaving (Goku dying at the end of the Cell saga, and Omni-man leaving the planet as he was a traitor). The difference is clear, one ended up a widow while the other was, well, abandoned. However the moms ended up with their husbands again much later (Omni-man changing his ways, Goku reviving)

- They both gained a younger brother during the series, and both caused more harm than good in the long run (Oliver almost causing the Human race to go extint, Goten as Gotenks not finishing up Buu sooner), but Oliver changed for the better while Goten is, well, hasn't found his voice yet (poor boy)

Is not really a rant, but I noticed the similarities between both characters and how they touched similar plot points. I guess you could say is that if you wanted a story with someone similar to Gohan and the Dragon Ball world, Invincible is not a bad place to go... if you can handle the gruesome imagery. Also, the creator of Invincible just never heard of Saiyans until someone asked him.
Good to see another Invincibpal here. I honestly spend my free time thinking of who Mark would be a good matchup against, and Gohan was actually one of my first thoughts, due to their characterization similarities. Then I remembered "Dragon Ball", and chuckled to myself. As for actual characters, I came up with Superboy, and currently considering Super-Man (the Chinese one). Can't wait for the TV series of Invincible though.
I believe the Tv Series and the cartoon will boost the popularity of the character enough for DB to consider it, although I don't have high hopes since they mostly depend on videogame sprites and Invincible lacks a videogame (Sadly)
And of course, i'm an Invincibpal! =D
Mark would get completely reamed out, so I don't think pitting him against Gohan is a good idea. He'd get bodied by Saiyan Saga goku in base.
I think the rant is more about narrative parallels than power-levels.
Yes, it its. I'm not really interested in a "who win fight", but more like finding a better counterpart than any Superman character, and giving an obscure character an opportunity to be more known.
And I meant it, other than Jonathan Kent (Who I am against putting in a DB), there is no counterpart to Gohan in Dc Comics, making any fight between them (A la DB) meaningless. Invincible may lack the "trained by an enemy of your father" trope, but he is certainly similar to Gohan.
Mark would die in DBZ pretty damn quick once you get into the Namek Saga.
Wait, Omni-Man changed his ways?
The douche who faked all his emotions, for an entire FUCKIN' other living being's lifetime?
Seriously?? Fuckin' seriously?!!?!?
Yes, he did. Took him a lot of time, though.
I've honestly given up making any kind of battle against Dragon Ball characters. with words like 'universal' being thrown around casually, and any thread involving them devolving into 'lol, X stomps' I don't see the point in using them at all.
Simple fun.
He is also really Vincible by any character that isn’t Inmortal.
Didn't realize Stalin was in the show.
Kinda makes you wonder how they conquered their home Earth when after a 3 day assault with 18 of them, they suffered a 56% casualty rate.
I'm sorry is this r/shittymoviedetails or r/ihavedyslexia
This is extraordinarily shitty movie details in that the details are also done shitty XD i love it.
This has been r/Invincible for a while now
In-vee-zee-beel
What don't you like about Steven?
Look, tonal clash rarely bugs me, but this is one of the rare times it does. The connections are alright, but the vibe is just all kinds of off, I'm not a fan of the dynamic and a person being overly defensive about it on Discord has only soured my feelings towards it. It’s okay if you enjoy it’s just not my thing chief.
Happy cake day btw
Oh I don't actually like the match myself (even if I'd put it just a tier higher), it was more so a segway into asking what puts Hercules above him because in my opinion that has the same tonal clash issues with even less going for it
Hmm I like Steven but aside from that good list
Based Ranking
At least you put Radiant Black in great alts, that’s good at least
This is a tierlist ig
Joe Yabuki 😭
It was meant to be the dude from god mars
This also means he was born after the first issue of the actual comic.
It also means I'm an old fat fuck.
It's ironic how both me and Mark share the same graduation year
Same. Ironically, I read the comics my senior year
Same dude!
Fun fact, i graduated today
Fuck me. This makes me feel incredibly old.
Which means season one also takes place in 2023 (well some would be in 2022) since it’s only been a month between seasons
season 1 probably takes place in 2022
