"Tiger & Bunny" is often recommended for its similar setting where heroes are like celebrities in a near-future world [1:2], [4:3]. "One Punch Man" is another popular choice, known for its comedic yet action-packed take on superheroes [1:1], [4:2]. "God of High School" also features school and superpower elements, making it a good match for fans of MHA [5:1].

School and Rivalry Dynamics

For those drawn to the school setting and rivalry dynamics in MHA, "Assassination Classroom" is frequently suggested. It shares the vibe of overcoming challenges within a school environment [1:3], [3:6], [5:5]. "Haikyuu," though sports-based, emphasizes childhood rivalry and personal growth, similar to themes found in MHA [1:6].

Other Notable Mentions

Several other anime were recommended that may appeal to MHA fans, such as "Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood" for its overlapping themes [3:3], "Charlotte" for its superpower genre [5:7], and "Persona" series for its engaging storylines [5:3]. Each of these offers unique storytelling elements that might resonate with fans of MHA.

ORIGINAL POST

I binge watched all of my hero season 1-5, and started 6 and watched weekly when I caught up. My hero is probably my top 3 at the moment. Others being Naruto and HxH. I’m relatively new to anime, but looking for recommendations close to these 3 shows. I can’t pinpoint exactly what I like them, I’d imagine it has to do something with a childhood rivalry and overcoming it, all 3 have that in common. Anyway, looking for shows similar to My Hero, Ive tried a few new series recently and none of them really hit what I was looking for. 2 more that I enjoy are Hells paradise, and demon slayer!

There's another superhero anime called Tiger and Bunny (I think it has 2 seasons). It has a similar setting to MHA in the near future where heroes are like celebrities.

And it focuses more on the adult heroes.

Maybe try "Assassination Classroom" It has a similar vibe to MHA, it's also just a good anime in general.

Also, good anime to watch for a new anime fan is "Death Note" or "Haikyuu".(there not similar to MHA tho)

If by similar you mean a plot involving superheroes, I recommend giving Tiger and Bunny(!!!!), One Punch Man and Super Crooks a chance. They're all different tonally from MHA, but they're entertaining shows regardless and I think you might like them.

Not sure why but Boku no hero reminds me a lot of JoJo's bizarre adventure a lot maybe just cuz they're my 2 fav animes I'm biased but still, I think it's the way the characters use their intelligence and unique use of their powers to outsmart each other instead of it just being who is more powerful like most shonen are (dbz, one piece etc)

Yeah, i totally agree. Thats why Death Note surprised me so much back in the day. That sounds like a good recommendation, maybe i would've included that in my list, if i watched it, but hopefully ill get around to it eventually, just a bit confused on which series of jojo to watch first?

LordofLustria · 7 years ago

Watch part 1 through 4 in order, some people don't care for 1 and 2 since they're very different from 3-8 (the manga is at part 8 anime is about to start part 5 soon) but I think 1&2 are worth watching I think you may be confused cuz essentially JoJo follows the joestar family and each part has a different set of characters since each part follows a different member of the joestar family through different generations ( for example part 1 is set in like late 1800s whereas part 5 is like late 1900s early 2000s roughly

Well, as a big MHA fan, my favorite is Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood, and I don't think it's wrong to say there's some overlap.

I'm currently reading Bungo Stray Dogs and it straight up feels like a darker variant on a similar setup, so if the anime is good (I've heard it is) there's that.

Shaman King is wonderful but do yourself a favor: read, don't watch.

I’d shoot for fairy tail if you handled watching all of MHA. There’s 320 something episodes for the main series and 25 for 100YQ which just season one. It’s generally regarded as nothing special by a lot of the community as far as I can tell, but it’s enjoyable to watch with lovable characters and great battle scenes. It was my first anime when I was young and it’s the reason I’m here writing this right now.

For more that are like MHA I agree with what others have said, Fairy Tail and Black Clover I think you'd like. I'd also add Hunter x Hunter, Noragami, Blue Exorcist, and Kaiju No. 8. They fit the same general vibe that I think MHA gives so I think those are some safe options.

If you want to venture out a bit more I'd recommend these as well:

Mob Psycho 100 - Generally fits a similar vibe to MHA, but has more emotional moments ranging from sad to inspiring. The animation is different and IMO it's more of a comedy than MHA, plus the emotional moments personally just feel deeper and more impactful, that's purely my own opinion though.

Demon Slayer - One of the most popular anime today, the story is pretty simple and straightforward but it's well written and the animation is nearly unparalleled. It's more bloody and a little gory at times, but it has lots of nice, light-hearted moments and by no means is it a "dark" anime, it just has some dark moments that don't last very long. In general, I'd say it's more "sad" than MHA but still very much fits into the shonen genre.

One Punch Man - By the same author that made Mob Psycho 100, it's got a very different art style and it's definitely a lot more of a comedy than anything else. It's meant to be a parody of classic action anime like Dragon Ball, even Attack on Titan, but the comedy is great and the animation is also great too.

Fullmetal Alchemist Brotherhood - A true classic, it sort of falls into the same category as Demon Slayer, but not as bloody or gory, although it's definitely more serious than something like MHA and can get pretty dark. That being said, it's a really great show, the story is amazing, and the animation still holds up.

Fire Force - Fits with MHA pretty well, although beware the fan service. IMO the animation and sound design are way better than MHA, but it's kinda lacking in the story department. It's got enough story to keep you interested and curious, it's just not amazing. IMO, carried by animation, but the animation is so good.

Jujutsu Kaisen - Same category as Demon Slayer, although slightly less light-hearted overall. Can get dark, but has an incredibly interesting and unique power system, extremely likeable and memorable characters, and amazing animation to create some awesome fight scenes.

Thank you so much! How you described all of them has really peaked my interest! Will 100% watch one of them next, thanks

Looking for a good hero themed anime

Posted by Ok-Company749 · in r/AnimeReccomendations · 4 months ago

I'm looking for something to watch where the main character could be a hero that slowly develops his character throughout the story and it's gotta have some good action, cool fight scenes and what not.

The heroism aspect I'm looking for is a bit cliche. Kinda "save the world" plot or "for the greater good" typa thing. Should have good side characters too and doesn't really matter how long the show is. It could short like 12eps or exceeding 100, I don't mind. I prefer shounen but dont mind the seinen category either.

For reference here are some shows I watched and would like the similar feel to:

● HunterxHunter ● Akame ga Kill ● Fire Force ● FairyTail ● Naruto ●Black Clover ●Fullmetal Alchemist/FMAB

As you can see I'm more into the fantasy world genre, but yeah anything yall got works honestly

And to narrow it down here are some shows I already watched: Jojo's, bleach, one piece, Attack on titan, My Hero Academia, DragonBall

You might like Magi. The Labyrinth of Magic is the first one, but there's also Kingdom of Magic and Sinbad's Adventures (the Sinbad one is only on Netflix tho) Lots of good side characters, and the main character does have a decent growth in development throughout the seasons. It's definitely like fantasy as well, given it's about mythical creatures and magic.

Anything Like MHA?

Currently on S3 E7 and I’m loving it, but I’m watching it with a friend that is very inconsistent in doing that with me. He’s enjoying it as much as me though, so my only option is to pick up something else.

So, is there anything like it? My favorite part about MHA, so far, are the emotional moments. S3:E4 (My Hero) is the perfect example of what I’m looking for. Those kinds of heroic scenes are just so inspiring and exactly what I need in life right now.

Never heard of Tiger & Bunny. Looks interesting. I’ll have to give it a shot.

The only thing holding me back from Soul Eater is that I’ve heard it deviates from the manga towards the end and I wouldn’t want to go all that way just to be disappointed.

Watched the first couple of episode of TBH X. I loved it, but I heard it switches MC’s and I’m not really interested in that.

Asta’s VA was unbearable. I tried and liked where it was going but my god… I couldn’t get through more than 3 episodes.

I’ve actually dropped both One Punch Man and HxH. OPM just seemed more like a comedy than serious action and that didn’t seem interesting to me.

As for HxH, I watched 6 episodes (right before picking up MHA) and it didn’t click. Felt like nothing was really happening and I ended up getting really bored. Maybe the expectations I had for it going in killed it for me.

Ryuzaki909 · 1 month ago

So,

BC- you get used to the voice acting , it only " bothered " me for a few episodes. I wouldnt drop a pretty great show because of it. I would say it's worth it. Has all the elements you asked for. Astas VA is pretty cool and he grows on you

Opm is actually more serious than you would think , especially in s2. The whole point of the show is that it's a parody of other shounen anime and similar things. It does have comedy but also depth in other characters as well as saitama. Its pretty short so I wouldnt drop it

Hxh is probably the best dark shounen ever. It has 140 episodes so it takes a bit to pick up , you just need to be patient. When it comes to shounen anime and action it doesn't get much better than that , if it even gets better than that. It has everything you want
