TL;DR Popular school setting anime include "Assassination Classroom," "Classroom of the Elite," and "My Hero Academia." These series often blend elements of action, drama, and sometimes comedy.
Action/Drama-Oriented School Anime
For those interested in action and drama within a school setting, "Assassination Classroom" is frequently recommended. It combines elements of action and comedy with a unique premise involving students tasked with assassinating their alien teacher [1:1]
[3:3]. Another popular choice is "Classroom of the Elite," which focuses on psychological drama and competition among students
[2:5]
[3:1].
Comedy-Focused School Anime
If you're open to comedy, "Great Teacher Onizuka" is a classic that revolves around an unconventional teacher navigating the challenges of a high school environment [1:5]. "Haven't You Heard? I'm Sakamoto" features a cool and unflappable student who handles various situations with humor and style
[1:1].
Creative and Unique School Settings
For those seeking creativity in school settings, "Sonny Boy" offers a unique blend of sci-fi and supernatural elements, focusing on students who find themselves in alternate realities [3:4]. "Talentless Nana" combines psychological thriller aspects with a school environment, adding a layer of suspense to the traditional setting
[3:2]
[3:8].
Superpowers and Academy Themes
Anime featuring superpowers within an academy setting include "The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.," which follows a psychic high school student dealing with everyday life [4:1]. "Occult Academy" also explores supernatural themes within a school context
[4:2].
Other Recommendations
Some additional recommendations include "Oregairu" for a mix of drama and slice-of-life elements [1:3], and "Revolutionary Girl Utena" for its creative storytelling and unique approach to the school setting
[3:7]. If you are looking for something outside the typical genres, "The Music Freaks" was mentioned as a good series with a school setting
[5:2].
In that kind of vibe atm due to watching a lot of Kurukos Basketball & My Hero as well as playing Persona 5.
Preferably action/drama oriented but I'll accept comedy as well. Not a big fan of romance stuff.
I'm 99% joking here but this is the second worst question you can ask as far as recommendations besides asking for anime that is made up of drawn pictures.
It is?
Only anime I've watched so far (aside from the ones mentioned) are; Bleach, Naruto, Samurai Champloo, Afro Samurai, Akame Ga Kill, Attack on Titan, Megalobox, Hajime No Ippo, Hakata Tonkotsu Ramen, One Punch Man, Boy and the Beast, FMA and Kenichi HSD.
None of them really featured schools as such aside from Naruto I guess and very early Bleach.
My bad if it's a common setting. I've just yet to stumble across any good ones aside from the stuff I mentioned in the original post.
It’s such a common setting that most of us are tired of it.
Though most of the high school set anime are slice of life stuff, romcoms, and some more drama learned stuff as well. Seems like you are favoring action and shonen stuff right now. So it makes sense you aren’t seeing it as much.
Oregairu and Hyouka would be a good place to start.
> I'll accept comedy as well
Prison school
So many choices.
Tonari no Seki-kun is a fun gag anime (5 minute episodes focusing on a girl who gets drawn into her classmate's delusions)
Haven't You Heard? I'm Sakamoto! features an unflappably cool student at the local high school.
Assassination Classroom is more in the vein of MHA, though.
Hey I would really love a recommendation for an anime that has something to do with classes school e.t.c I’d love it if it had something to do with competition, action, romance and so on. Ofc it must contain all or any of them do. Would rly appreciate it!.

classroom of the elite - exactly what your looking for i think. TML
Already watched haha masterpiece
Def read the light novels if you haven’t, they’re way better
Seitokai Yakuindomo - Great anime, fun, and totally school focused.
School setting hardly have creative ideas and good executions.
Idea wise, most school anime/manga are either slice of life, romance, sport, unrealistic action drama or some bland sci-fi/fantasy.
Execution wise, it’s also rare to see well executed school setting stories
Do you guys know something, anime or manga, that stands out to offer.
I’ve only known some good ones:
Also, stories like Haikyuu, does not really involved in the “school” aspect of the school setting so they don’t count.

pretty sure {Classroom of the Elite} has an anime
Revolutionary Girl Utena is very creative.
Are there any anime shows that focus on superpowers and academy. Besides my hero academia and iruma-kun demon school( I seen those 2)?
Occult Academy
The Disastrous Life of Saiki K.
Im in the gacha community since like, 2019 but i never really watched a series because there is nothing that interest me. Does anyone know a good series including a school setting (if you know a series that is another genre, please let me know).
The music freak is good. Idk if you've watched it.

Can anyone give dramas wherein there is a correlation to a school setting such as the characters still in school.
Kiss the girl kill the game
Unfortunately this is a drama box drama so I've only seen it on dramafren. I just checked and it's not on Dailymotion.
It's a girl comes down from the mountain and goes to high school story. What made it stand out was that the ML is damaged and psycho.
Thank youuu, What app or site is in the picture? If there are dramas like the one you recommended in that site/app I can probably look upon further for more. if you have more recommendations it would be really appreciated <3.
It's a shot from dramabox app. Like I said this drama goes by that title on DramaBox.

Any good anime recommendations with a college setting? I really like Grand Blue and Run With The Wind however I don’t particularly like Golden Time
The first thing that came to mind for me was Golden Time because I'm watching it right now, but I don't think I would recommend it to you, it's such a chore (read: boring!). Some of the more immediately mainstream ones have already been recommended, so if you don't mind some older titles, I'd suggest {Maison Ikkoku} and {Ai Yori Aoshi}.
Maison Ikkoku - (AL, A-P, KIT, MAL)
^(TV | Status: Finished | Episodes: 96 | Genres: Comedy, Drama, Romance)
Ai Yori Aoshi - (AL, A-P, KIT, MAL)
^(TV | Status: Finished | Episodes: 24 | Genres: Comedy, Drama, Romance, Slice of Life)

I really liked Genshiken a lot. Its set in a college anime club, and is just about the members and their interactions. Also, I haven't finished it yet, but I've been enjoying Honey and Clover, which is a comedy-drama about students who go to an arts college in Tokyo.
{Nodame Cantabile} is about students at a music university. I really liked it, it's a good mix of drama and romance, and a heavy focus on classical music. I'd recommend trying it out.
I rewatched the first episode the other day, the comedy is pretty good too
Whats a good anime involving college students/ revolving around college. Specifically in the slice of life/ romance genre.
Golden Time and this season's Kaze ga Tsuyoku Fuiteiru come to mind first!
There's also the popular Tatami Galaxy.
Honey and Clover. It has slice of life, romance and some drama. It is very emotional. But when it does comedy it tends to be a bit silly. It's kind of schizophrenic, but it's very good.
Moyashimon is a quirky comedy that is very funny.
Someone already mentioned Genshiken and it is very good as well. It starts out as mostly comedy but develops some nice romance as it goes on.
Then there is Hen Zemi which is an exercise in being weird and pervy for its own sake. It's actually pretty funny though.
Moyashimon is great
The Tatami Galaxy
I always see animes based on highschool life or as adults with a job but I feel like I've barley seen an anime based around college. Does anyone know a good anime for that setting?
Uzaki chan wants to hang out
Sign of Affection ( going on right now )
- Grand Blue
The true College experience
Golden time! Good stuff
The Tatami Galaxy
Remake our life
Honey & clover
Free! (Season 3 and later movies)
Run with the wind
Cheer danshi
Cool doji danshi
I'm interested in hearing what anime you consider to be the quintessential example of the "school" genre — not just one that happens to take place in a school, but one where the setting, atmosphere, and student life are central to the story.
Think of the anime that best represents the experience or themes of school life, whether through slice of life, drama, romance, or even with supernatural or psychological elements yada yada
What is that one show that stands out as the school anime, and what makes it rise above the rest in representing that genre?
Hmmm...maybe Azumanga Daioh? Partially because it follows the same students through all the years of high school.
I'm also tempted to name Gakuen Utopia Manabi Straight as a potential candidate, because it's very directly and explicitly about the Japanese school experience itself, moreso than probably any other anime.
Other possibilities:
Too Many Losing Heroines, Hibike! Euphonium, K-ON, The Melancholy of Haruhi Suzumiya
Azumanga is one of the few shows of this sort that spends much time showing students and teachers in classes (Math at the beginning only, English, Japanese classics and PE regularly).
Toradora?
I don't rlly have a real explanation to why I pick that show, but just something about it really speaks to me as the representation of the definitive "school" anime. Could be the drama, the typical culture fests you see in almost every school anime, not really sure myself but that's what I think of and it is the first show that comes to my mind when someone mentions the "school" genre
Toradora is absolutely the blueprint for dozens of other LNs, manga, and anime. I think it cannot be understated how influential it is, even if almost everything in it is itself taken from other things. It’s not so much an innovator as a popularizer. You can point to other things and said x did it first, but the bulk of fans, creators and executives didn’t watch x, they watched Toradora. I would also say that while less watched, Hyouka and Sound! Euphonium have been very influential. And I’d be remiss not to mention how Haruhi defined an entire generation of anime fans both in Japan and abroad, and the “bullshit club” centered school anime sub-sub genre was kind of codified by it. Chuunibyou is the most obvious successor to that.
And then there’s K-On.
Okay now that I think about it, Kyoto Animation basically determined what high school anime would look like in the modern era and the bulk of high school anime take at least some influence from aspects of their work.
Makeine is kind of the ultra refinement of all of this, and also kind of merges the Toradora and Kyo-Ani lineages as well as a bit of Oregairu (obviously I think any LN series playing in that ballpark has to be at least aware of that series and what it did). And then Makeine is structurally and conceptually riffing on trash harems too!
> the bulk of fans, creators and executives didn’t watch x, they watched Toradora
Idk, Lovely Complex is pretty popular in its own right.
Anyway, if we're pointing to most influential, I think that would probably go to Urusei Yatsura.
Yeah I've never seen toradora and toradora was still what jumped in my mind
I’d nominate Hyouka. The whole premise is that even the most apathetic bum of a schoolboy can make his own fun, provided he gives enough of a damn to try.
It’s also a bit unique in how realistically textured it is. The school isn’t just a building with a place and a name, it’s situated in the course of a history that shaped and continues to shape it — and its students. Clubs are riven with interpersonal issues, petty politics, and logistical difficulties. It’s not a downer about it, though; it’s got arguably the best school festival in anime, and at the end of the day, there’s always the Classics Club to return home to.
Hyouka would definitely be my pick too.
Yeah definitely most fully fledged out depiction of a school in anime
Also has an excellent dub!
