ORIGINAL POST

Hey I’m in town this weekend with family. What would you all consider the best brunch in Boston? A place that has a mix of good food and good drinks. Somewhere you would take a mid-day nap after going. Thanks in advance ❤️.

It's Monument in Charlestown for me. If you're in the city proper, it's easy enough to get to via the orange line. Will almost certainly need a reservation though. Amazing food and good cocktails as well

Brunch with easy-ish access

Posted by raychillill · in r/boston · 6 months ago

Hey everyone, I am flying in from Chicago to visit a friend in Connecticut Sunday morning, and an trying to find a place to grab brunch on our way back to Connecticut. He has asked that I keep it with easy access from I-90, but I think I could convince him to go off that if it's still easy to get to from the airport (he just doesn't want to drive in Boston). Any suggestions would be great!

Reins deli at the Ma/ct border on 84. The Stockbridge inn in Sturbridge. (That name doesn’t look right but it’s famous). Pretty easy on off pike I think.

2 upvotes on reddit

aray25 · 6 months ago

There's no easy on-off from the turnpike in Boston proper because most exits are only eastbound and most entrances are only westbound. I would suggest getting out to Framingham.

I've done a bit of looking this morning and was drawn to looking for a place in Watertown (my hometown in a different state) and wa thinking that going somewhere that's out of the center of the city would be doable? Any thoughts/suggestions there?

1 upvotes on reddit
eireann113 · 6 months ago

Are you looking for brunch in Boston or somewhere between Boston and somewhere (???) in Connecticut?

I agree with the other poster it would be a little easier to keep it quick and easy access if you are further out to at least Framingham. A few random things I would suggest just based on what I happen to know: Donut Stand in Hopkinton (technically of 495 but it's just a tiny bit past 90 there), Worcester is full of cute streetcar diners that could be good options, Rein's Deli in Vernon CT right off 84 is great but might be a bit further from Boston than you want.

Otherwise I might look around google maps/reviews in Worcester and Framingham and see what looks good. Those will both be easier to navigate than Boston.

The location in Kendall shut down back in August, in part because so few people were around during the pandemic :(

>Friendly Toast owner Scott Pulver told Boston.com that he made the decision to close because of uncertainty as to when students and workers would return to the Kendall Square area in full force.

>“The bodies just aren’t there,” Pulver said. “I was walking through Harvard Square the other day, and there was like seven people there. We’ve reopened five of our six stores. We’re still a strong brand, we’re still doing really good sales elsewhere. But Cambridge is a ghost town.”

Andala doesn't do any specific "brunch" but it's a good place to go at brunch time for a change of pace from the usual.

Shy Bird is surprisingly good for brunch and we headed there whenever we were hungover from parties, lol. They have nice brunch cocktails and the standard savory fare but with optional chicken additions.

Jamaica Plain Brunch

Posted by 333pickup · in r/boston · 6 months ago

My sisters are visiting from out of town to take me out today and are meeting me in JP because they know how to get there.

I qas looking for a restaraunt that filled the niche Sorella's and Centre St Cafe left behind but no luck. So far, everything I see so far is either fairly expensive or seems fast foodish. Nothing wrong about any of that but can't find a place right in the neighborhood that seems like a pretty good meal, leaving time to sit and visit, not especially high priced.

Any recommendations?

Brassica is the best for brunch but it will likely be a long wait to get in without a reservation (and it’s pretty cold for standing around outside). Their Saturday-Sunday brunch menu is pretty prominently located on their website.

I used to live near Evergreen. It was a great spot during the pandemic, always quick and delicious. EXCEPT:

It was an unseasonably warm sunday: April 18, 2021, the first day of Hot Vax Summer one might say. I ordered an omelette from them bc Ula was randomly closed.

When I got there I hadn’t seen so many people in one place since 2019. Like every millennial or old GenZ in JP AND Roxbury had decided to come to evergreen on that glorious Sunday.

I waited an hour and fifteen for that omelette. They comped me a cookie at least.

^^^ Go Jefes. Places like Darwin's are what they are, but you won't remember the food afterwards; it's about as memorable as IHOP (and often worse) at x3 the cost.

A lot of the food is just broken around here where the high rents haven't translated into expensive yet amazing quality or expensive yet amazing value since food costs aren't usually the biggest factor. Darwin's has no reason to charge $3 for a plain piece of toast lol

Don't bother with Cafe de Olla.

It's good don't get me wrong but you'll probably have a 2 hour wait and they don't do reservations.

Same with Mexcocina.

Edit: I was lucky that I ate at those two restaurants before they got so popular and I loved the chilaquiles divorciados (half red/half green sauce) as well as their coffee but everytime I pass by there are always people standing outside waiting.

They make money and I wish they would at least put chairs for people to sit while waiting.

6 upvotes on reddit
