Spangler in Harvard Business School (HBS)
Spangler is highly recommended for its coffee and relaxed atmosphere, making it a great spot to study, especially during late evenings when it's quieter [1:1].
Law School Library
The Law School library is praised for its quiet environment, particularly in the reading room. It's also conveniently located closer to the Quad than other parts of the Yard, making it an accessible option for those nearby [2:1]
[2:3].
Darwin’s on Putnam
This café is popular among students for studying, though it can be crowded at times. It’s best to visit early in the morning to secure a spot [1:3]
[1:6].
Mather Library
Mather Library is another option that offers a quiet space for studying. It has been noted as having "the best of everything," suggesting a well-rounded environment for focused work [2:5]
[2:8].
Quincy Dining Hall and SOCH
For those near the Quad, Quincy dining hall and the Student Organization Center at Hilles (SOCH) are suggested. The upper floors of SOCH have office-like desks that are usually unoccupied, providing a quiet setting for study [3:1].
Widener Library Stacks
Widener Library stacks offer a more traditional library setting with ample space for studying. This location is known for its quietness and extensive resources [3:2].
Healey Library 4th and 6th Floors
Although not directly on the main campus, Healey Library's 4th and 6th floors provide quiet study spaces with art displays and less foot traffic. These spots are ideal for those who prefer a more secluded environment [4:2]
[4:4].
These recommendations cater to different preferences, whether you’re looking for a bustling café vibe or a silent library nook. Each spot has its unique charm, offering various amenities like power outlets, natural light, and comfortable seating arrangements.
Relatively quiet, not too crowded and maybe gets some natural light or has nice views (like the smith campus center)
Cambridge public library isn't too shabby! Zinnekin's is good if you can get a seat by the window.
Indoor or outdoor (natural light obviously isn't a problem in the latter case)? There's some patio seating and a cafe (I think) by HLS, but I can't remember the building name. Darwin on Putnam is good, but I think they have early closing hours (it was always closed when I walked back to my apartment in the evening). I would have suggested Cafe Pamplona (where the hipsters used to hang), but a Google search indicates they closed.
Darwin’s on Putnam is best early right when they open, otherwise it’s hard to depend on a table being available in my experience. It’s a popular work/ study spot during school

Harkness Commons
Yes, thank you!
Darwin's!
Barker cafe
Spangler in HBS, best coffee on campus and pretty chill to study, especially late evenings
Hi everyone! I am looking for recommendations for study spots that are pretty quiet but don't have a lot of foot traffic. I know places like Lamont, Widener, Science Center have quiet areas, but I am a student with ADHD so I get distracted easily by lots of people and movement even if it's quiet. Bonus points if around 10-15 mins from the Quad. Thank you so much!
ETA: thanks for all the responses!
Not sure if this is still an option, but I used to find an empty carrel in Pusey library. It's underground, so no windows, no distractions. No one goes there.
Good weird old books down there too. I remember getting wrapped up in some interrogation book when I was working on a crime and punishment paper.
Law School library. That place is super quiet, especially in the reading room.
I always sit in the law school library because it is divided into smaller sections by the bookcases. Also, free coffee!
seconded! law school library is also by Mass Ave on the way to Porter so it’s closer to the Quad than most parts of the Yard.
Do yk if there’s a reason it wouldn’t let me swipe in a few days ago? I thought we had swipe access to it
Mather Library
Mather has the best of everything.
It shouldn't be hard to find an empty class room in the Science Center at night.
I’ve gotten tired of being a lamonster and the lighting in cabot makes me feel like i’m being institutionalized are there any other places to study on campus that are open really late 🌝
Widener Library stacks.
SEAS if it counts as undergrad campus
I always liked studying in Quincy dhall. Sounds like you’re in the quad so the SOCH is pretty nice too. Upper floors have some office-like desks that are usually unoccupied. Top floor I believe has a nice lounge area.
Where are some good places to study on campus? Preferably with power outlets, quiet atmosphere, and lots of table space?
Thanks in advance!
Now that I already graduated, I will stop gatekeeping: Healey library 4th floor. Theres art work around, but a quiet space at end with 2 desks and a table, and a private bathroom not many people use. I loved taking dab pen hits there.
Thank you so much for this tip!
You know it
there’s a secret study area behind snowden auditorium:D
Thank you, where is it?
The Healey library 6th floor
100%
Visits 6th floor The Healey library would recommend that
Awesome, thank you!
Thank you!
I used to climb up into the window sill at the top floor of the campus center corner stairwell, you get interrupted in between classes and there’s no outlet but there’s a nice view of the harbor
Thank you!
Where’s the some spots in Oahu you’ve found that is conducive to focusing/learning? (WiFi enabled)
My ADD is having a hard time studying in a library or my living room floor 😂 people seem to like Whole Foods and food land farms alamoana to get some work done!
same, i’m iffy towards libraries because they make me leave the desk and go to a different space to drink from my water bottle
I tried the library once until I realized they don’t allow snacks or drinks. Nope!
Honestly...my car. I find a nice shaded area, park my car, sit in the back seat, prop my feet up on the middle console, connect my laptop to my phone's hotspot, and I'm good to go for hours. If it starts getting a little warm, I move my car or I turn on a small USB fan I carry with me. I bring a small cooler for snacks and a drink or two. If I need to use the bathroom, I lock everything in my trunk, use a free bathroom, and come back. I've saved so much money and time having done this for about a year. I can go to the beach, park, parking structure, shopping center. And I don't have to interact with anyone.
Mind sharing your favorite spots? I work online and I’ve been trying to find places that I can get out of the house but still be able to concentrate on work. I like the car idea but I live in town so I feel like parking is rough anywhere you go..
I'm a little hesitant to reveal my favorite spots because sometimes there are only 1 or 2 parking spaces left by the time I get there.
But I will tell you something that has recently made a huge difference. I recently bought 2 pairs of car window shades (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08FL95VWC) for my driver/passenger/rear windows. It allows me to roll down all my windows yet have coverings over my windows for privacy. It allows me to take naps in my car without needing the A/C.
This sounds amazing haha I love nature so I always wanted to find some breezy peaceful location with a view where I can stare off between frustrations 😅
I'm not a student but since the pandemic I've adapted to working remotely from my car. Parking near a Starbucks or mall makes food and restrooms available.
Find the beach shower that someone left da soap at and, ho cuz! Everything you need!
Try a co-working place. I got a desk and then an office at BoxJelly for a year. I was working remotely at that time and couldn't concentrate at home. Anyway, BoxJelly has different options and you can even just go and ask for a tour to get a sense of the vibe.
Hotel spaces are great, pop your laptop open and throw some headphones on, bam, tourist.
I tried to do that at The Curb in Kaimuki, gets pretty busy there and idk I had hard time cuz it’s so loud and I can hear everybody’s conversation except the one going on inside my head.
No WiFi tho? Everyone in there using their phone hotspots?
Hey everyone, with the semester kicking off, I’m trying to find some solid study spots around NU. I’m actually an IIT student, but my commute’s way too long, so I usually just study at Northwestern instead. The problem is the libraries feel super crowded, and I don’t have a WildCARD unless I’m with my best friend, so I’m looking for other options.
Ideally I’m after those quieter, low-traffic spots lounges, random nooks in buildings, maybe even empty classrooms that stay calm. Bonus if they’re kind of dim or chill since that helps me focus. Off-campus works too if there are cafés or public spots that aren’t slammed with people.
What are your go-to hidden gems?
First floor and Core in the Main Library can be busy but floors 3-5 (book stacks in all three towers) have plenty of unoccupied spots that see little or no use. You do not need a Wildcard to use the Library since it is open to the public. Just register as a guest with a photo ID at the entrance.
You have no business in any of the classrooms on campus, FWIW. This helps keep things with guests on the up and up.
be sure to get to the library before public hours end (normally from open to 6pm, monday through saturday) otherwise you can be turned away
Kellogg is a good place to do work and the top floors of main are usually pretty quiet
even inside the conference rooms is fine but get prepared to get kicked out when people have reservations

the entire tech building and its connections to Silverman, pancoe, and hogan are all connected. it would take at least a month of studying to study through the whole system. I made a teir list of all the best study rooms and like 20 of the are in the tech building alone
I wanted to ask for advice on where are the best places to study? I am in desperate need of studying somewhere else that isn’t my house
I haven’t been a college student for a few years so on campus is out of the question.
Please no recommendations to Starbucks. Even with having headphones on, I find the place to be noisy and easily distracts me.
Much appreciation for any help!
The Zuhl Library on campus at NMSU is open to the community, you can study there
I remember using one of the study room there and heard a dude being kicked out cuz he didn’t reserve the room and he admitted he wasn’t a student. The staff told him only students can do that so I always assumed the whole library was only for students
Yeah, its a land grant uni, so they are open to the public. You need an aggie id to reserve a study room, but general spaces are available.
Whaaaaaaaaaaaat Really?!?! I went to NMSU for 7 years and I never knew this! I used to LOVE studying there!
Adding to this, the second and third floors are often less crowded and have more nook / private feeling tables! Though with some seats you’re near a window and that can get warm.
The Zuhl library also has white board things so bring dry erase markers with you! You can also use the white board monoliths to create a study fort.
I have used and enjoyed Milagro Coffee (in the back), but you have to be strategic to get a table; Grounded Cafe (outside of you don't need a plug, or up the stairs inside of you do); The Bean at Mesilla (this one was fun, no issues with getting tables, it was never crowded); and the Cruces library has some interesting spaces for study, not necessarily a quiet room (although maybe those exist, too).
I have also used The Bean on Mesquite, but didn't enjoy it as a study location. Too small,
I have never tried The Bean at Josephine. There's also a co-working center called Collective Co.(pay by the day or monthly) for a professional space to work, which includes coffee/a kitchen, etc. it's owned by the same people who own Grounded, and it's like a street over. You can tour during the business day, and it might be worth a month or two if you are doing something with a time limit (e g. Master's dissertation, certification exam, etc).
The public library has study rooms too 😇
If you can get a table, the room in the back of Milagro is nice, and you can enjoy your coffee there. Zuhl Library has some great spots, and Branson Library is eerily quiet, buts it's hours are super limited. Lots of people go to Grounded, but it always seems busy. Picacho Roasters is very chill, if all else, go for the coffee and espresso! Hope this helps.
I like Picacho roasters, but the vibe hands rarely been chill. The music is really loud and I can't ever seem to focus with that to write papers or read.
I like Branson library
My dorm is cold as hell and staying in my room doesn't motivate me to study. Where are the best places to do your homework at and feel productive?
I always recommend the downtown library or in Reynolds if it's not out of your way. Both give you nice views of town depending on where you're studying and Reynolds you can look out at the river and rail trail if you study in the atrium.
honestly evansdale library has always been my favorite since its 24 hours on the weekdays! super quiet!
I used to love studying in the evenings at the cafeteria in Ruby. Pulled quite a few all nighters there.
2nd and 3rd floor of Brooke have nice tables and comfy chairs. Huge floor to ceiling windows with views of Woodburn too. 3rd floor is usually quieter than 2nd, but both are ultra quiet after 4pm ish
Downtown library
what time does it close? and is it open on the weekends?
Look up the hours yourself
Looks like it’s open til 11 pm Sunday-Thursday, til 7 on Fridays and 6 on Saturdays. The website is apparently useless for finding hours so I’m going off of the ones on Google though
you would have gotten the answer faster by just googling it
second either library but learn to reserve a study room. it's alot better than just getting a table
Anyone know a place my daughter, in college, can study late night? With COVID restrictions she can’t find any place. TIA
Check what colleges are keeping public areas open to the public during the pandemic, and how late they’re open. It looks like at least one Harvard library is open 24/7, but I’m not sure if she’d qualify as a “visiting researcher”. https://library.harvard.edu/libraries
If she’s a student at another institution of higher education, she can probably get a Harvard library card. That’s what I did when I was in college.
Right now they're not letting anyone but their own students into the libraries - you have to be part of their COVID testing protocols.
The school I work at has 24 hour study spaces for students. You may want to check with the school your daughter goes to.
She has. There is only one place and it’s not in the best area so we were hoping to find another. She’s at Lesley if you know any other schools library that will let her in. Thanks
I understand there are some pretty far flung part of the Lesley campus, but all the ones I know about, there are no better areas – they're pretty tony parts of town.
Alas, it used to be anyone could use the myriad 24hr spaces on MIT's campus, but they've finally closed access to campus, on grounds of COVID.
I understand that the Halal Guys in Porter Sq is open to midnight, but I haven't tried them yet.
MIT library was 24 hours a day and open to the public pre COVID, double check but they aim to get back there.
But the area around Lesley is one of if not the lowest crime area in Cambridge. If she feels uncomfortable there she may not feel comfortable in the area around central square and Kendal square where MIT is located. Especially late at night the surrounding area can be rougher. It is also on the far side of the city from Lesely.
The Cambridge public library on Broadway is open till 9pm weeknights. I don’t know how late you consider late.
Cafe Andala in Central - super cozy, indoor and outdoor seating, free Wi-Fi, and hot tea (plus other food/drinks).
>Cafe Andala
I love 'em, but they're only open to 10, right?
The Harvard Smith Center has some pleasant public seating with tables inside - on an indoor terrace above Pavement Cafe. I think she'd be able to connect to the Harvard University public wifi. Open to the public til 10 PM weekdays and weekends
True but those few tables are the only ones available while the rest of the building requires id
Hey guys,
So, I just landed in Boston for finals week and I’m looking for a place to study. I’d really like access to Widener, but I’m an extension student. I would have to wait until tomorrow to receive my physical ID. I have a final tomorrow and really need a quiet place to study, so any recommendations would be great.
Thanks.
Lots of quiet space at the HLS student center
24 hrs??
Lamont
The front area of the Harvard innovation lab would be open to you. Would be a good spot to work. Over by HBS
The basement of the northwest science building is usually pretty quiet, I don’t know about in finals week tho. (Also an extension school student)
I highly recommend CGIS
You can usually pull up your registration email and show it to a security guard. My friend does this for the one in the science center and gets in fine
I just tried this at Cabot Security guard must not have been in a great mood.
Looks like I'm a bit late to help but good luck with your final tomorrow!
