TL;DR
Return Policy Duration
Amazon offers a standard 30-day return policy for items sold and shipped by Amazon, which typically includes free return shipping [1:2]. This is longer than Best Buy's standard return policy of 15 days. However, Best Buy offers extended return periods during the holiday season and for members of their Best Buy Plus program, which allows returns up to 60 days
[4:1].
Ease of Returns
Amazon is often praised for its no-hassle return process. Customers can initiate a return online and drop off the item at a nearby affiliated location such as UPS or Kohl's [2:1]. Refunds are usually processed within three days after the item is returned. However, some users have experienced delays in processing
[2:2]. Best Buy allows easy in-store returns, where customers can return items to any store without questions asked
[3:1].
Return Conditions
Both Amazon and Best Buy allow returns for non-defective items if the customer simply didn't like them [1:5]
[1:7]. However, Amazon may limit the number of returns a customer can make before they face restrictions
[1:1]. Best Buy seems more lenient with frequent returns, especially when done in-store
[1:1].
Customer Service Experience
Users have reported positive experiences with both Amazon and Best Buy when returning faulty products. For example, Best Buy swapped a monitor with stuck pixels without issue [2], while Amazon was similarly accommodating for electronics returns
[5:1]. However, Amazon's customer service might be less personal compared to the in-person interactions at Best Buy stores.
Recommendations Beyond Discussions
For those who frequently purchase electronics and want peace of mind, consider joining Best Buy's membership program for extended return periods. If you value convenience and prefer online shopping, Amazon's return process is straightforward, but be mindful of potential restrictions on frequent returns.
Hello, I am used to purchasing electronics through Best Buy and love their flexible 15 day return policy. I'm currently trying out some new laptops. Basically what is Amazon's return policy for laptops??
If "sold and shipped by Amazon", it's 30 days with usually free return shipping.
If it's sold by a 3rd party, it's 30 days but you might have to pay return shipping and/or a restocking fee.
Can you only return if the product is defective in any way or can you just send it back cause you didn’t like it
You can return, no questions asked.
But you can use it and try it out and then return like you can at best buy?
Yes but there's a limit to it.
If you do it often enough, Amazon will blacklist you. So don’t treat the suite like a try and buy too much. With Best Buy you can do it indefinitely and even just return it to another Best Buy instead of the same one where you got it. The min wage workers don’t care.
Same as Best Buy but 30 days.
I returned a laptop to Amazon through UPS and I am having a delay. That is something to consider too.
It is a mysterious delay. God know what happened.
Curious how good Amazon's return policy is, compared to best buy. I know with best buy it's pretty good if you're within the 30 day window. My current monitor, the first one I got had a stuck pixel and they swapped for a new one no issue. Just wondering if something like that happens with Amazon, like stuck pixel, dead pixels, bad quality control etc. Can you return to Amazon and get a replacement with no hassle as well? Or are they more strict about it. This was holding me back from ordering on Amazon because I don't know how good the return policy is.
Their official support told me processing return and refund takes about 30 days.
7 more days and counting...
Shipped it back and waiting...I can show you Fedex return shipping delivery date and Amazon mail response...but it is what it is...maybe if you wear pink sunglasses all may seem differently ;)

Amazon is literally like a complete no hassle return.
Just pack the monitor in a box, start a return, return it to your nearest affiliated return area (UPS or Kohls if in USA as common places), return gets refunded within 3 days usually, buy the replacement monitor.
I like to keep my manuals and original boxes and accessories until the end of the return window for this reason.
Have a choice of spending money on either one for a monitor, as monitors are sometimes a crapshoot I was hoping someone here knew which seller has the superior customer service/return policy if I do get a dud.
I think right now Amazon. But if you want to go buy one and test it, hit up Best Buy. You can return for at least 15 days no questions asked.
I bought a faulty b550 tomahawk from Best Buy and return it for another b550 motherboard no questions asked
Best Buy has 15 days!? I found out too late.
So far, Costco has the best return policies!
Anyone else??
hmm maybe nordstrom since they have unlimited time for returns....target or amazon as well
I can’t believe I forgot to list Nordstrom’s!! I love them!! I bought this really nice purse in 2020 and since we didn’t go anywhere, I asked if I could return it since it was never used! Almost a year or so later !!
Love Nordstrom’s. ♥️
Best Buy has a 60 day return policy if you are a member of their Best Buy Plus program ($50/year). It is longer than that during the holiday season.
TLDR: How easy is it to return an unopened GPU to Amazon (Sold by Amazon)?
I purchased a GPU from Best Buy and it got delayed. I was told they had not even received the inventory yet from the manufacture. It was an issue with there website and it was oversold. It was likely that the order was going to end up auto cancelled. As it has been incredibly hard to order one of the new GPUs, I was lucky enough to make an order on Amazon. I assumed the Best Buy one was going to get canceled. The Amazon order was not supposed to ship for some time and I figured this way at least I have a backup.
I ended up with a slightly different GPU model than the one that I wanted on Amazon. Earlier today I contacted Best Buy and they said they had located one at a different store and it would be here tomorrow. The rep via chat let me know that I would receive an update via email about the new delivery time. I have yet to receive that email from Best Buy.
I just now received from Amazon that their order has shipped, the package is with UPS, and it will be to me Friday.
My question is if the Best Buy model does show up tomorrow, how hard is it to return a GPU to Amazon? The box would remain unopened. I understand that a refund may take some time but I am OK with that.
Amazon takes back electronics no questions asked for 30 days after purchase. That’s why it’s the best place besides MicroCenter to buy pc components.
The past couple of returns Amazon asked me to pay for shipping myself and they will only refund up to $3.99! I said no, shipping is between $10 and $20 at the very least because you need tracking to prove you even returned it. I had to complain to customer service (after convincing the AI to send me to them for 10 minutes) to get them to replace the product that arrived heavily damaged. They’re a multibillion dollar corporation with insurance and underwriters. They can go after the shipper who bungled the shipping or the manufacturer who sent them a broken product to recoup costs of returns. Even if they paid the extra few dollars to cover shipping, Jeff is not going broke tomorrow. Total BS they’re making us do the leg work and covering all the costs for damaged and defective products. It’s not OUR fault. We paid full price for something new, unused, undamaged.
Update: Per Amazon’s return policy as of 2024 they will refund qualifying purchases the return shipping up to $20, but you need to contact customer service. Also, Amazon is apparently nudging customers towards Whole Foods or Kohl’s for free returns, I’m thinking because it’s cheaper to bulk ship it back to their return processing centers. But ain’t no way am I driving to town to return a broken lamp that’s cracked into one million pieces.
Just curious, what/why are you returning so often? I can count on one hand the number of times I've returned things to Amazon in the last decade.
How often are you returning items to Amazon?
Just last week dude returned "several" items, from another reply
Either stop buying things, stop returning things, or find a way to get to the whole foods FFS.
Why would Amazon want to keep you as a customer? You are incredibly low value to them and a massive PITA.
Every return I did has been a full refund. Was your item fulfilled by Amazon or by a 3rd party? That might be where the issue lies. If it’s fulfilled and returns handled by Amazon it’s always a full refund (at least in my experience).
Yup, Amazon fulfilled. I learned my lesson a few years ago and never bought from third party again. It’s only been just last week that I was able to return several items for free, and now this week for two items they asked me to ship it myself and I’ll be refunded for shipping $3.99. I was like, what? Since when? Looking at the page I realized the verbiage is different from the usual. It says “free 30 day refund/replacement” rather than “free returns.” I’m hoping this is just a one or two off thing instead of the new norm.
I have a $9.99 item. I just did a test return.
It's giving me free return shipping if I dropoff at Whole Foods or UPS. Not sure what you're buying but return shipping depends entirely on whether you buy from "Amazon.com" purchases or third parties.
OP also said they return multiple items per month. Which is wild to me. That might have triggered a limitation on their account for excess returns.
Yeah. I've had occasions where I've had to return multiple things in a row (i.e. I was trying to find something that was the correct fit for something) but if this is a monthly thing I'm sure that set off something on Amazon's side.
Most of the time when I return it's almost always free. I noticed the more expensive stuff that's like $100-$200 or more require you to actually pay for your own shipping back (I had to do this with a wireless headset).
We make generous use of their return policy, but always do it via UPS or Whole Foods. We also try very hard to avoid third party shippers, because they make it much more difficult to return.
Their quality has really tanked. If they shipped fewer garbage items, fewer items would need returning.
Just take it to Whole Foods.
I recently purchased a laptop from Best Buy and i'm still testing it out, not sure if i'm going to keep it... I was looking online and saw their return policy (have the membership) and saw something about a restocking fee?
So far, from what i've read on other peoples posts no one has even mentioned about this when returning an item. I already opened the box (still have it, and all the components), and was wondering if I ended up returning the laptop would I be charged the 15% fee, which is kinda insane especially if the laptop costs more than 1000+.
Laptops no restocking fee
Some items like cameras or cell phones have restocking fees, laptops are not one of them. When you purchase the item it’ll have you sign something saying you agree to the restocking fee, if you didn’t do that then no restocking fee. No restocking fee for you.
Employee here, there should not be any laptops that have a restocking fee. Only cellular devices, cameras, and maybe a very select few volatile items.
We also accept returns even if open and used as this will mark it as open box for somebody else in the future. Even if it was bought as open box, you can still return it. If you are in your return policy, go ahead and return in-store.
The easiest way to find out what your return window is is to read your receipt. It explicitly states how long you have to return the item right on the front of the receipt. And it is not a general statement, it is customized to you and your purchase.
And no laptops are not one of the devices that carries a restocking fee.
Background: I'm not from the States but my cousin is, and I'm gonna ask him to buy a laptop for me as they're very expensive where I live.
Now I just wanna know what their return policy is for online orders, product unopened. Do you get a full refund within 14(or 15?) days? What's the form of refund?
Not sure who downvoted you. This is a good page to have bookmarked.
Full refund within 15 days for MOST products. Things that can be activated like cell phones have a 14 day return policy. You might also encounter refund fees on certain products including cell phones, camera products, drones, and a handful of products (15% for everything but cell phones, $45 for cell phones).
That said, most managers let it slide if you bring a product with a 14 day return policy back in 15 days. Usually not too big of a deal.
Thankfully this won’t apply to OPs purchase, but phones purchased with an installment billing agreement cannot be returned after 14 days, and the clock starts from purchase. At least that’s how it was when I was SSM 3 years ago.
What if the 15 days has already passed and I want to return the item for something else( in my case a monitor) is there any possible way to do it? Paying or something?
Used to be even better if you were a "My Best Buy" rewards member and moved up the tiers they had. The more you spent, the longer your return time was, in addition to other perks like free shipping and faster reward point accrual. All of that is recently removed... to BB's great shame and loss of sales.
</rant>
I hate that they combined the rewards member into one and now it is just 15 day return period unless you want to speed $200 on Total Tech subscription for 60 days return period. I recently purchased a GPU from there, but didn't open it yet. I am considering returning it because of the short return period and rather spend a bit more from another retailer with a better return period with at least 30 days. I don't have a incentive to purchase from BestBuy unless there's some kind of special edition game, exclusive item, or gift card preorder bonus.
It only really applies to phones and cellular devices. Essentially BB can access your cellular account and add a device for you. Some times adding a device signs and agreement that you’ll pay it off over a certain amount of time. That agreement cannot be canceled after 14 days.
I'll return whatever you bring me so long as you don't fight me on the store credit, if out of policy.
Full refund via original form of payment within 15 days.
Thanks! Appreciate it!
Thing to note, if you’re paying cash and it’s over a certain dollar amount the refund will go via check. So you may want to have your cousin pay with a credit card in case you would only have plastic.
It’s conflicting. I know bestbuy has a 15 day rerun policy. Does that mean it has to be dropped off at ups within 15 days, or does it need to be shipped sooner and received within the 15 days? The email I got says I need to drop it off at ups by the return policy end date. On the app, it says bestbuy needs to receive the return before return policy end date? Which is it?
As long as it's shipped before the end of the return period. It does not have to reach them before the end of the period.
