TL;DR Best Buy generally offers faster shipping for pre-orders, while Amazon excels in regular item delivery speed. However, experiences can vary based on location and specific items.
Pre-Order Shipping
When it comes to pre-orders, Best Buy often delivers items before or on the release date. Many users have reported receiving their pre-orders from Best Buy days earlier than expected [1:1]. Conversely, Amazon has been criticized for delayed deliveries, especially for boutique releases like Arrow and Kino Lorber
[3:1]
[3:9]. Some users have switched their pre-ordering preference to Best Buy due to these delays
[1:3].
Same-Day and Next-Day Delivery
Best Buy's same-day delivery service through Shipt has received mixed reviews. Some users have experienced delays and incorrect deliveries [2:1]
[2:5]. The effectiveness of this service seems to depend heavily on the availability and willingness of local drivers
[2:3]. In contrast, Amazon Prime is known for its reliable two-day shipping, and in some locations, even same-day delivery
[5:3].
Return Policies and Warranties
For larger purchases like TVs, Best Buy may offer more peace of mind with their return policies and warranties. Users have expressed confidence in Best Buy's warranty offerings, particularly for electronics like TVs [4:1]
[4:6]. Amazon also offers warranties, but concerns about returning large items and choosing delivery dates remain
[4:2]
[4:4].
Membership Programs
Both retailers offer membership programs that enhance shipping options. Best Buy's Totaltech program provides free two-day shipping along with other benefits like extended return periods and protection plans [5:4]
[5:6]. Amazon Prime is widely recognized for its fast shipping and additional perks such as streaming services and exclusive deals
[5:3].
Overall, the choice between Best Buy and Amazon for shipping speed depends largely on the type of purchase and personal preferences regarding reliability and additional services.
I recently pre-ordered a release (Wall-E UHD) from Amazon with the expectation that it would arrive on the release day but it didn’t until almost a week later. I’ve seen posts here and elsewhere where some have received pre-orders either a day or two prior or on the actual release day. Does it depend on the title or does Amazon or Best Buy typically ship pre-orders faster?
It’s very hit and miss...
From my experience, Amazon hardly ever delivers Disney titles (in particular) late on time. Could be different for others...but I know a few people that have have issues receiving titles in release day from Amazon....lately.
Best Buy (of late) has been more consistent with delivering titles on release date, and even before release date on some occasions.
But it’s very possible that other people will report the opposite experiences.
Not sure if any of that helped.....
Edit: incorrectly stated the first sentence
Whenever I pre-order from Best Buy, my item consistently arrives 3 days early. With Amazon, it's usually release date, or sometimes they won't even be on time. This might not be the case for everyone, though.
Thanks. I think I’ll switch my pre-orders to Best Buy.
No problem, hopefully it works out the same way for you.
I’ve now ordered 3 items since September 2024 and elected for “next day” delivery, which apparently is delivered by Shipt. All 3 times the item sits “preparing” with an “arriving today” eta. I guess there’s still time today, but it’s likely not arriving and will be 3/3 times the next day delivery didn’t actually show up. Shipt sucks!
That’s all
I do shipt, the pay on BB orders is a joke. Ive taken one since i started in September. Its no surprise they don't get taken
My store uses Roadie, but if it operates at all like Shipt does then it’s entirely based on the willingness of the drivers in your area to accept the order. I’ll stage dozens of orders, a lot of them for same-day delivery, and they won’t be picked up for days.
yes, just not from Shipt...
I have 3 separate orders since 2023 that were delivered” but somehow stuck in a in-progress state, so they show up at the top of my purchase history, it’s the most frustrating thing ever. The last time it was roadie and they delivered to a completely wrong address, the proof of delivery picture was of a door/house that didn’t even match anyone in my neighborhood.
LOL that’s absolutely absurd
I ordered an iPad I needed for work and it sat all day at the BB until about 9pm when it showed up at 11pm at the wrong door lol.
I was told by one of the employees that (in my area at least) people wait until the end of the day to accept multiple deliveries and then do them before midnight.
LOL Jesus Christ
With what I’ve seen posted on here amazon delays Pre orders all the time. I don’t Pre order from them personally unless I absolutely had to.
Honestly Best Buy is my go-to when it comes to pre-orders. They almost always arrive on the Monday, Saturday, or Friday before release. Why did you ditch them? Amazon is almost always late. Especially with Arrow and Kino Lorber.
Same. Best buy has been aces for me every time.
Best Buy sent me a package where 2 of the 6 movies were missing and they refused to refund or replace
were these fulfilled by amazon or a 3p seller? once you go to 3p on amazon it is anyone's guess when it will show up.
Oooo. I’m gonna have to check on that. Thank you
Amazon is utter dogshit if you’re trying to get boutique releases on time with preorders, and it’s been this way since the start of the pandemic.
They’re great if you want studio releases, though.
Gotcha. Everything else I ordered came the very next day. It was exciting, but I have an amazing gift card so I guess I’m just gonna have to be patient
I have an amazing gift card
Wow look, an answer to my question. You're going around acting like a dick just because people are wondering why you chose Amazon when you could've just said this
Say what you will about Best Buy, but they have the best mouthwash prices in town.
Hehe.
I’m going for the LG B9, and pickup isn’t an option. I have a Bestbuy (and warehouse) near me so I figure, if for whatever reason, returning wouldn’t be a pain. However, I get a pretty enticing discount on amazon. However, ordering through amazon concerns me for a couple of reasons. How would I even return this TV if something is wrong with it? What kind of warranty do they offer? It seems I’m not allowed to choose a specific delivery date and time. Also I’d be specifically buying the TV via “ships from and sold by amazon.”
Amazon might offer Asurion warranty. You can always add squaretrade. Although none of them covers burn-in unlike BB GSP, in case you're worried about it.
Yeah the only thing I saw was Asurion warranty. That’s unfortunate I’d only be getting warranty to cover burn in.
Yeah. Then you're stuck with Best Buy. Apparently, LG is replacing panels with burn in within 4 years of purchase as a courtesy. But to me, it's just that, a courtesy. Nothing stops them from scrapping that policy all of a sudden. If I am purchasing an OLED and worried about burn in, I won't rely on a "courtesy".
Well it depends on the sellers return policy, I had mine shipped knowing it might need to go back, but the company I bought from has a good policy about that stuff and I asked about it ahead iof time.
IF you buy on Amazon just make sure it is from an authorized seller or LG wont cover the tv with its warranty and you dont want to void your warranty to save a few bucks.
We bought online through greentoe and had it shipped by beach camera, I saved over $1000 plus had it delivered, I highly recommend it.
I wouldnt buy from best buy unless I had no choice.
The B9 65" was selling for $1500 and the 65" C9 was selling for $1799.99 from Beach Camera, Buy Dig and greentoe sellers.
I bought the E9 65" for $2099.99 shipped.
I would feel better with BestBuy personally.
They did a great job delivering my LG C9 and their warranty is unbeatable imo
Yeah it seems like their warranty is the only way to go.
My local store seems to never have anything in stock and with the lack of pickup options, there isn't much point in ordering movies, music, and electronics when I'm able to get most items in store at Walmart or Target as well use Prime to get whatever it two days.
Granted there is the "My best buy plus" but it doesn't really compete.
Ever since the remodel and pandemic, shopping at Bestbuy has sucked and I'm sure it's sucked for workers too.
I think it’d be a better idea for Best Buy to focus on their in store pickup rather than shipping, lots of porch pirates nowadays steal expensive packages and for an electronics retailer it’d be smarter to focus on in store pickup.
I would be absolutrly fine with that, especially if my store still carried mpvies because then I could look at the selection while there.
My store seems to have more emphasis on appliances now and you can only buy so many.
The video game section was cut down to tiny annoying kiosks that are too clustered to dig through.
Ever since the remodel, its honestly killed any reason to shop in store.
Same thing at my store, the majority of people that come in are either buying a home theatre setup (which has now turned our department into a huge conglomerate of displays) or buying an appliance which our section takes up a good half of our store. I agree though, shipping needs to take a step in the right direction with faster and more convenient ways but with the warehouse being small (at least ours) I don’t think Best Buy is going to do anything directly with stores to improve the shipping standards.
Depends on area. Where i live most things can be had within 2 days.
Honestly, that's probably my biggest issue
Possibly. I know when I was living in tx, I could order most anything on amazon before lunch and it would be at my house by dinner. Now back in wv even with the prime 2 day it tends take a few extra.
Someone hasn't been offering Totaltech...
Lol, I'll look into that. Maybe it wasnt offered because I was elite plus or whatever
Totaltech members get free two day shipping on most things. Plenty of times I’ve gotten same day through shipt (also included)
As another commenter said, it's entirely dependent on location. My area I can get some items with same-day shipping, because of my location to a warehouse and several of the stores.
So essentially best buy does have its program totaltech to compete with prime. Totaltech gives you free two day shipping as well as a plethora of additional benefits such as up to two year protection on all items bought, free installation with hardware purchase, 60 day return period and more.
I’ve decided on getting a C1. And as it’s a big purchase for myself, I want to make sure I do it right. Right now my options for delivery are Best Buy or Amazon. Problem is, with Best Buy I have to pay upfront, but with Amazon I can pay monthly which is a much more financially attractive offer. However the most tech I’ve bought on Amazon is a $200 computer monitor and my father has bought many TVs delivered by Best Buy without issue. Is there any reason not to go through Amazon?
Ordered 85” VIZIO tv from Amazon and came cracked. They came and picked it up. Went to bestbuy and had them deliver it. No issues
Do you know who delivered? Was it XPO?
Not sure. Just looked and since I returned does not show shipping info anymore. I want to say yes but can’t confirm.
I would personally get it from beat-buy if price is the same. Because if something is wrong i can atleast talk to someone in person.
See if you can use paypal credit to pay at bestbuy. Can pay across 6 months
I didn't have an issue. In Philadelphia, they used XPO to deliver it.
Thanks!
You wont have any issues with amazon. If it comes damaged at all, they just take it right back. Ive ordered many tv's through both best buy/amazon. No difference imo. They all came UPS/FEDEX. I live in NYC.
Edit: so its on an average, 3-10 days. Thanks all!
Bestbuy took 4 days through Purolator. Was outsourced to 3rd party delivery company.
Shipped from Van to Vic
If it’s from Walmart, it’s very likely you won’t receive it at all.
GL
Edit: mine is still 36 days and counting.
Mine took 2 business days from Walmart
Ordered Dec 3rd got it Dec 23rd through Walmart It is much much worse if you're on the West Coast and have to deal with Loomis
Mine took 10 days when I ordered in the November drop
I'm in the same boat, ordered on the Dec 3rd drop and still hasn't even left the Canada Post warehouse.
I gave up and got a refund. Fuck Walmart. I’m giving up on the PS5 and just focusing on a 3080
You were just unlucky. Dont be upset cos atleast you secured one :) and that's a big deal
Nah it’s not coming. The best I can get at this point is a refund. I’m giving up. Walmart doesn’t even do their own shipping. They outsource to a fulfillment company just like their customer service is outsourced to a company in India and their investigations team outsourced to a service in the Philippines. Nobody works at Walmart so there’s no accountability if you get fucked on something like this. Especially if it’s rare or highly sought after.
Hi Goodnight! I am from the USVI (United States Virgin Islands) and I order a PS5 for my boyfriend. Does anyone know how long Amazon usually take to ship to my region?
Ordered mine on the 18th and it still currently says “not yet shipped, will email you when available”. It’s been 11 days now 👀
Took me a week from bestbuy. But I wasted 2 days due to incorrect transaction info
I ordered my new pixel watch 4 about a month ago, and they are saying it will be delayed without any shipping information.
The customer services is the worst. They are more or less an AI that only paste "Your order is not yet shipped, rest assure it will be shipped in the next couple of days" and "You will be notifited when it's shipped". Completely ignoring the fact it is delayed.
I think next time i should order it from Google Store directly as BestBuy is so bad.
I preordered from Best Buy as well for pickup & it's saying delayed. Like that haven't had plenty of warning.
There are zero watches across every store in the country.
Well that's a big fat bummer.
Not true!
I just got my notice that it's ready so hopefully others will hear from their local Best Buy
Just finally got an update that mine is ready for pickup from BB 1 hour prior to store closing. Unfortunately can't make there tonight, but I'll have it soon!
Mine says arriving today, but it is still two states away. Waiting to be picked up by FedEx...
Yeah I ordered mine about a month ago and got an email last night saying "it wasn't quite ready" for pickup.
Same situation as the rest of you guys here. I'm hoping they receive a shipment for the preorders sometime today but I think it's just cope.
But their app says it will be available for pickup today.
I'm in the same situation
Yep. Same here. Once again they screwed up a pre-order
So unless I'm mistaken, it seems like the new Ghost in the Shell 4K steel won't be available in store... which means I'll have to order it online. Both of these retailers have a miserable track record (or so it seems) with packaging/shipping their steelbooks. If you absolutely have to chose one, which would you go with and why? I'd appreciate any feedback as I really want to add this to my collection.
Pay the extra $4 on Amazon to have it gift wrapped and it makes them use better packaging for shipping.
Does amazon charge for preorders right away or when shipped?
When shipped
It might be in store one release day. IIRC the new WW steelbook was delivery only for preorder, but when I stopped in my BB yesterday they had a few copies on the shelf.
Edit: I’m not 100% percent certain, but I think I saw a post about adding the gift wrap option through amazon and it’ll come in a box. I’m sure someone will see this and verify whether or not that’s true.
I appreciate it! If Amazon ships in a box I'll definitely go that route.
Would you mind sharing a link for the amazon preorder I can’t find it on the app and only seen the BB link posted. Or is it not up for preorder there yet?
Is it just my search words or are amazon (US) steelbooks hard to find/sort whatever. I mean I see some but the selection is not great and they are mixed with all the movies....how do I narrow down a search
Also I dont want to see scalpers with a $20 steel for $120 I'm not interested
Never had an issue with Best Buy and their shipped steelbooks, personally. The new Wonder Woman 4k steelbook arrived minutes ago in perfect condition from BB.
Glad to hear it, I think you may be one of the lucky ones based off of some of the horror stories that I've heard.
