What Redditors are Saying

Is Best Buy Cheaper Than Amazon?

TL;DR Best Buy often offers price matching, which can make it competitive with Amazon. However, prices can vary depending on the product and promotions available at the time.

Price Matching and Promotions

One of the significant advantages of shopping at Best Buy is their price match policy. They will match prices from major online retailers, including Amazon [1:2], [3:3]. This means that if you find a lower price on Amazon, you can potentially get the same price at Best Buy. Additionally, Best Buy sometimes offers better deals or trade-in credits that can make them cheaper than Amazon for certain products [1:3], [1:7].

Product Availability and Selection

While Best Buy has a physical presence where you can inspect products before purchasing, they may have a more limited selection compared to Amazon [3:1], [3:4]. For specific items like PC parts, Newegg and Amazon are often recommended for their broader selection and competitive pricing [3:1], [3:2].

Return Policies and Customer Service

Best Buy is generally preferred for its customer service and return policies, especially for high-value electronics like TVs [2:2], [5:3]. Many users have reported easier returns and exchanges with Best Buy compared to Amazon, particularly for large items like televisions [2:6], [5:6]. Additionally, Best Buy offers extended warranties and protection plans, which can be beneficial for expensive purchases [4:1], [5:2].

Shopping Experience

For those who prefer in-person shopping, Best Buy allows you to physically inspect products before purchase, which can be advantageous for items prone to shipping damage [2:5], [4:4]. On the other hand, Amazon's delivery services can offer convenience, such as setting up delivery windows and unboxing assistance [2:7].

Ultimately, whether Best Buy is cheaper than Amazon depends on the specific product, current promotions, and personal preferences regarding customer service and shopping experience. It's advisable to compare prices and consider additional factors like warranties and return policies when making a decision.

Best Buy will price match so just find the best price you can, then go to Best Buy

Amazon is a big No. Personally, I usually go direct from Apple unless the deal at BB is better. I purchased a MBA M3 a week ago from them BB. Their price beat Apple by $200 and just a few days ago, the price went down by another $100, which BB priced match. Like the other posters said, with BB you can have face to face interaction if needed which is important with tech purchase in this price range

Question about Best Buy- did they give you the 35 watt charger with two USB C ports, or the 70 watt charger with only a single USB C port? Best Buy doesn't let you customize this option like the Apple website does, so I'm just curious which one they give you since I want the 70 watt one and would buy it separately

I’d personally get direct from Apple unless there was a significant price difference. But out of Amazon or Best Buy. Go with Best Buy Less chance of getting screwed, can talk to an actual person, and overall less evil of a corporation.

That’s why I bought my iPad mini from BB. I got more trade in for my old mini and then BB would price match Costco.

Assuming price is equal, positives/negatives to buying from Amazon vs. Best Buy

I'm a pretty loyal Amazon customer, and not too long ago purchased a 55" TCL Series 6 for a spare room. Now I'm looking to spend more on a nicer and bigger set (Samsung Q80) but for whatever reason I'm now wondering if I should be shopping around not just for prices, but for upsides/downsides of specific retailers when making purchases.

Wondering what folks would suggest when it comes to Amazon vs Best Buy in their purchasing experiences.

minor update: For clarification, either way would be buying online and having it shipped/delivered. Don't have a way to transport that big of a TV myself from a store. Wondering about experiences with returns, warranties, etc, etc.

I would be worried about how well a large TV is handled during shipping. It's also much easier to return the TV to BestBuy in case something does happen. Amazon does have great customer service however.

How do you think a TV gets to Best Buy? It's shipped.

The only difference IMO is that if something were to go wrong, it's easier to return it to Best Buy than it is to return it to Amazon.

On the other hand, you may be like me and get lucky and have Amazon send you 2 75" TV's, and even after you try to return them, they just tell you to keep it.

While I know the TV is shipped to get to Best Buy, I prefer to pick up in store because it gives me a chance to physically inspect the box before receiving the TV. I can outright reject it on the spot if it appears damaged and returning is much simpler (although I've never had to).

Honestly, the return process seems like it would be easiest with best buy, but amazon is pretty good. Id just make sure you document and take a couple pictures if you do it with amazon.

Ive had amazon refund money to my account while the item was "still in transit" back to them, like i received the notification a couple hours after i had dropped off the package. These were <$1000 items, but still high dollar.

I dont know how you feel about warranties, but ive heard some good things about people getting the best buy warranty on their tv's. Ive just read a couple stories of "no questions asked" situations where their tvs were replaced with the same or newer model televisions with the geeksquad warranty.

When I got my TV from Amazon a couple of years ago I was able to set a delivery window (IIRC it was a 2 hour window).

When the delivery company came they also unboxed the TV and placed it on my entertainment stand, plugged it in, and made sure it turned on.

I have purchased several TVs from Amazon for work. No problems. If you don't have a way to transport the TV, I'd definitely consider Amazon. That said, in the Amazon vs Best Buy argument... I would go with Costco :) Extra warranty (year, or more if you use their Visa card), usually good price, exceptional customer service if you do need to return it, can have it shipped to your door but still have the option of an in-warehouse return.

use pcpartpicker.com, newegg.com typically has the best prices for PC parts and best buy does not keep much PC parts stock so unless you use their website to make sure they have it or order for pickup (why) you should not use it

I’m a Costco member and will only buy my TVs from Best Buy.

  1. Best protection warranty on TVs. Pricey? Not if you it.
  2. Only plan that covers burn in on OLED TVs.
  3. Pay $ 49 for a BB Plus membership. Gives you a 60 day return window.
  4. Expensive delivery with setup charge. However, they do a complete setup.

My purchase of a 65 inch Samsung OLED last month. BB offered free delivery, set up including wall mounting. Look for these deals. When the installers left, everything was ready to go. Complete setup. Check Costco reviews on delivery and setup. Minimal. They put it on a stand, plug it in, connect one cable, and leave. Many poor reviews on the Allstate Protection Plan.

Amazon’s return procedure is abysmal for TVs. The freight also has a much higher chance of getting tossed around. I’d go Costco first for extended warranty. Best Buy if they don’t have what you want in stock.

Best Buy doesn't consider Newegg an approved competitor and won't price match them.

They claim that Amazon is more stable in pricing so even though them and Newegg are both marketplaces, somehow Newegg isn't as good and therefore they wont approve them.

The item Im trying to price match is sold and shipped by Newegg, not a third party seller.

Those stores still have locations lol. I worked right next to an ABT, to be honest it was super nice inside lol. Amazon doesn't, but to not lose to Amazon well known from everyone. It's accepted by corporate. I bet maybe 10 percent of the people shopping at best buy know what Newegg is. They used to match Tigerdirect, which was basically neweggs competition with vast parts with physical stores. Like microcenter basically lol, till CompUSA bought them out. They went to crap and then bankrupt. Same with Frys electronics, i built my first pc with parts from them. They were massive, literally was every store in one.

You should fight them on that. If the item is sold and shipped by Amazon then it should be price matched according to their own policy.

best Buy stopped price matching New Egg around 2019.

From what I can find, they violated Manufacturer UMRP pricing and that made Best Buy tell them to fuck off.

For the unaware, that's a minimum price for hardware set by the manufacturer. They're also involved with scammy discounts.

With the new school year starting this month, I know a lot of students and parents are buying tech for school, work, or fun. Just in case you prefer to shop local B&M, even if it's still a big box store.

And lets be honest, I think we would all prefer more local buying options (anybody remember Circuit City, Good Guys* or PC Club).

I vote for best buy and pay with credit card. If something goes wrong and best buy doesn't step up, dispute with credit card. If you bought from Amazon, they mess up and you dispute your credit card, Amazon screws you further, your account + gift card will be gone for good. Plus, best buy has price protection if price drops within 30 days while amazon wont do anything for you.

This. Amazon messed me up and took 200 dollars of another item when I disputed for just one item. I eventually got back at them but felt dirty in the process. However, I had to do that.

Best Buy, you are good to dispute.

Wife got mine for Father's Day on the Amazon $499 deal. It's from the official Lenovo store and came new factory sealed. The two year deal is tempting. Might be worth going Best buy and using your gift cards for accessories. I bought a butterfox case, battery power bank, and low latency gaming earbuds for example when I got mine.

AI Answer

🤖

is Best Buy cheaper than Amazon

Key Considerations:

  1. Price Comparison: Prices can vary between Best Buy and Amazon depending on the product, promotions, and sales events. It's essential to check both platforms for the specific item you're interested in.

  2. Shipping Costs: Amazon often offers free shipping for Prime members, while Best Buy may have shipping fees unless you meet a minimum purchase requirement or choose in-store pickup.

  3. Sales Events: Both retailers have sales events (e.g., Black Friday, Cyber Monday) where prices can significantly drop. Keep an eye on these events for potential savings.

  4. Price Matching: Best Buy has a price match guarantee, meaning they may match lower prices found at Amazon or other retailers, which can be beneficial if you prefer shopping in-store.

  5. Membership Benefits: If you have an Amazon Prime membership, you may find additional savings or benefits that could make Amazon cheaper overall.

Takeaway: To determine which retailer is cheaper for a specific item, it's best to compare prices directly on both Best Buy and Amazon, considering shipping costs and any applicable discounts. If you find a lower price at Amazon, check if Best Buy can match it.
