Maybe it hasn’t been on Netflix and prime or just has gone under the radar.
Can range from mini series or limited series to longer shows like Line of Duty (the pinnacle for me if this helps)
It hasn't been mentioned but Broadchurch if you haven't seen it is a fantastic, gut wrenching crime series from the UK. The reveal of the killer has been the only time I've ever watched a show and was physically affected when I discovered who the killer was.
Broadchurch is an amazing show! Especially the first 2 seasons.
I’m giving it a go now! It’s currently available for free with Roku. Thank you 😊
It's definitely worth finishing, I know a lot of people stopped after the end of series 1, but I feel like the other series absolutely are worth finishing
As someone who has seen a lot of true crime series bc my mom absolutely loves them, by far my favorite true crime EVER is “the chestnut man” on Netflix, very terrifying

Gangs Of London
Deadwood -a premier HBO series from around 2000 and one of the shows to put HBO on the map. It's an old West show starring Timothy Olyphant and Ian Mc Shane.
Justified -small town KY crime show with Walter Goggins as the main villain and Timothy Olyphant as the Marshall.
The Godfather of Harlem - crime show that takes place in the 70s that weaves actual historical figures Into the drama. This stars Forrest Whitaker and several of the mob guys from the Sopranos.
Fargo- an anthology series of small town murders.
Basically what the title says, I’m looking for suggestions on the best detective (or detective style) series to binge watch.
Whether it’s Monk, Lucifer, The Mentalist, Brooklyn 99 or whatever (those listed are more an indication of the variety I enjoy), I’m looking for something along those lines to binge watch.
‘Obvious’ answers would also be welcome as there are multiple more popular ones that I have yet to get around to watching, so basically, whatever gets either the most suggestions or the most votes will be the one that I’ll start on first.
(If the series has already finished, I’d prefer ones that didn’t end on a cliff hanger because I find those extremely anticlimactic, but if you believe the rest of the series is good enough to make up for that, then that’s fine).
Sorry for the lengthy post, and thank you in advance.
Throwing out some love for TD S3.
Yes, it's basically a retread of the first season, but I'd argue that the lead performances are at least as good and the ending is better.
Both seasons are worth watching and 3 isn't nearly the trainwreck that 2 is, it's just not as inventive in the shadow of S1.
This list + Luther
Oldie but very goody The Shield. Get past season 1 and keep going.
Psych
The Fall
Elementary is a good one.
Castle, Rookie Blue, Private Eyes, Lie to Me. Perception, Bones, Unforgettable, iZombie, Rizzoli and Isles, Psych, Chuck, Moonlight, Moonlighting, Harrow, Forever, New Amsterdam (2008), Numb3rs, Magnum P.I., Prodigal Son, Life (2007) the list goes on and on. And yes, a couple of them are short-lived and cliff-hangery. :)
The Americans - It about a pair of Soviet spies living in 1980s America doing work for their motherland. Deals with many themes like relationships and the consequence of service.
Good acting throughout.
The Sopranos.
It's a classic for a reason.
Black Mirror
Check out the just-completed first season of the animated conspiracy mystery thriller Common Side Effects.

It's smart and eerie and fun.
From.
If you can handle a tiny bit of scary. It’s INCREDIBLE and I think one of the highest quality shows out right now. Got a lot of mystery. Not a crime show… but I’m not sure if you’re asking for all three of those genres, or just as a baseline idea.
Here’s the trailer.
Looking for a new series — I love drama, crime, and messy relationships!
Hey everyone!
I'm on the hunt for a new show to binge and would love some recommendations. Here’s a quick rundown of my taste:
Favorites:
I'm always drawn to series with strong drama, crime/thriller elements, and a good dose of romance, especially when it's full of twists and messy characters.
I've seen most of what Netflix has to offer, but I also have Disney+ and HBO, so suggestions from those platforms are totally welcome.
Basically, I want something that will hook me hard, make me emotionally invested, and maybe even a little obsessed 😂
Any recommendations?
Mare of Easttown
Big Little Lies
Bad Sisters
I've been eyeing Mare of Easttown, is it worth the watch?
Also I've seen big little lies, i loved it
Bad sister in not on any of platforms I have :(
Mare of Easttown is really great
perfect for a crime drama with messy relationships
Mare of Easttown is great. If you like murder mysteries you'll love it.
>Bad sister in not on any of platforms I have :(
Stremio baby
Do you mean Bad Sisters, plural? Irish comedic drama? You would really like it.
mare of easttown is excellent but has a grim vibe. not in the least lighthearted. just fyi!
I know its a little old at this point, but Revenge. SO MESSY, drama, crime...its great
Enjoy this show so much
Am I Being Unreasonable is a good mix of these things.
White Lotus for sure then!
In desperate need of a great binge worthy show preferably suspense/thriller or comedy. Moved to a new state where I have zero friends & I got laid off about a month ago soo I have a lot of time on my hands.
Edit: Thank you all for the recommendations! I’ve already started binging on some of them!
Such a good show. All seasons worth watching. Very suspenseful, but quirky British humor, as well.
Came here to say this! Cannot go wrong with this show. Three seasons so far. Apple TV+
Edit: Typo
Any Harlan Coban series on Netflix!
My favourite author and I have every one of his books. Every time I see there’s a new series I think “it won’t be a patch on the book” but they’re actually great. Just watched 5 episodes of Fool Me Once tonight but it took great discipline to switch off and come to bed cause I couldn’t tear myself away. I’ll be up in the morning - straight onto the next episode and I can’t wait. So many twists and proper characters to keep you guessing what’s going on and who’s involved. Highly recommend it.
Search Party on Max. It’s 5 seasons and each season gets darker. It’s excellent, and it has an actual intended conclusion (so rare!)
Search Party is awesome, it’s so funny too. I feel like that show is very underrated
Justified
Homeland
Ozark
The Americans
Bosch
Banshee
Battlestar Galactica
Black Sails
Reacher
Condor
Strike Back
C.B. Strike
Person Of Interest
ozark should be 1st on this list. wont be beat.
I like Justified a little better. I love Elmore Leonard.
Sharp objects Fall of the house of usher Dark The sinner True detective season 1 The outsider Based on a true story
Sharp objects is amazing! Also so is pretty much all of the others you mentioned
I want to watch this, have heard nothing but good things
I've obviously seen BB, Better Call Saul, Ozark, The Sinner (s01), Stranger Things, Mind Hunter amongst others.
Maybe you can list some shows of a similar caliber? Perhaps I'm missing some hidden gems...
The Killing is one I don’t see mentioned yet
Handmaids Tale (my husband was very resistant to watching it bc he thought it was a chick show, but he got hooked once he did start)
The Fall with Gillian Anderson and Jamie Dornan. A psychological thriller that follows the hunt for a serial killer in Ireland.
I think a long time ago I finished the first season. It was so overwhelmingly dark/depressing with nothing to counter that, no humor, nothing. Is it like that throughout the whole series?
It’s definitely got a dark tone throughout the series but I didn’t find it particularly depressing. The acting is so well done that I was hooked. I think I watched each season in 1-2 days.
God this has been in my queue for like 2-3 years. Maybe I should finally watch it lol
Do it! You won’t regret it!
Came here to recommend this.
Season one of True Detective will blow your mind. It’s anthological and the other 2 seasons are disappointing so just watch the one
100% no doubt on this one. One of the best series I've seen anywhere
I’ve been recommending The Serpent to everyone lately! Based on a true story, I loved it.
Came in here to suggest this, a very good watch.
Watch Broadchurch. You won’t be disappointed
Hi, I’m a huge fan of crime dramas. I’ve watched Mentalist, Pysch, The Monk, Dexter, Rizzoli&Isles and my all time most favourite NCIS from this genre. I need similar crime solving and long shows like more than 8 seasons ones. Any recommendations?
Thank you in advance 🙂
Bones
Castle
Numb3rs
Lie to me
May I also add Justified to your excellent list?
Sure thing! I'll check it out too
Bosch on amazon prime.
Just finished last season of legacy Now we wait for Ballard!
Bosch goes hard. Also Bosch Legscy is solid too.
Lucifer, but I think it was 5 seasons
Ah it was 6
Criminal minds
Law and Order and its spinoffs.
British series Vera, Prime Suspect, Cracker, Life on Mars.
Blue Bloods.
best crime thriller series to watch
Here are some top crime thriller series to consider:
Mindhunter (2017-2019)
True Detective (2014-present)
Broadchurch (2013-2017)
The Fall (2013-2016)
Luther (2010-2019)
Ozark (2017-2022)
The Killing (2011-2014)
Recommendation: If you're looking for a blend of psychological depth and thrilling plot twists, Mindhunter is highly recommended. It not only delves into the minds of criminals but also explores the impact of their actions on the investigators. For a more traditional detective story, Broadchurch offers a gripping narrative with emotional stakes.
