TL;DR Yes, "The Sinner" is worth watching, especially the first season. Subsequent seasons have mixed reviews, with many viewers favoring the first over the others.
Season 1: A Strong Start
"The Sinner" has been widely praised for its first season. Viewers appreciate the engaging plot, strong performances, particularly by Bill Pullman, and the satisfying resolution [2]
[4:3]. The first season is noted for keeping audiences guessing and providing a compelling psychological mystery
[5:1]. If you enjoy crime dramas or psychological thrillers, season 1 is highly recommended
[3:5].
Subsequent Seasons: Mixed Reviews
Opinions on seasons 2 and 3 are more varied. Some viewers found season 2 to be less compelling than the first [2:4]
[3:8], while others thought it was decent but not as strong
[5:1]. Season 3 received criticism for its lack of progression and character depth
[5:1]
[5:2]. However, there are still viewers who enjoyed these seasons despite their differences from the first

Overall Recommendation
While the first season of "The Sinner" is highly recommended, subsequent seasons may not meet the same expectations for all viewers. If you find yourself captivated by season 1, it could be worthwhile to continue watching, but be prepared for potential shifts in tone and storytelling.
I am on the 8th episode I think, and I absolutely love it. A friend just told me that if I keep watching after the first season, I would deeply regret the wasted time. Would you agree ? and PLEASE no spoilers.
And one more request : Could you please recommend a show or a movie that is somewhat similar to season 1. Preferably on Netflix.
Thanks in advance.
I liked the first and second season much more than the third. I really wanted to like the third season too because I like Matt Bomer, but it was just ok.
I agree with your friend. I liked the first season but didn’t like the other 2.
I wouldn't be as drastic as your friend, but I do agree that season 1 is clearly the best of them.
The first one is the best, in my opinion. The third one is better than the second. But all pretty decent
Many thanks.
My fiancee and I stumbled upon it, randomly looking for well-rated series available on Netflix. We finished it in two days, and it was overall great. Very well acted, good pace, keeps you guessing, and ends in a satisfying way.
I had never heard anything about it. No mention of it in social media or other people talking about it. Is it because it came out in the USA cable channel fairly recently (2017 for first season) and cord-cutters or heavy streamers wouldn't have heard of it until it popped on Netflix?
Anyway, I heartily recommend it if you enjoy dark and tense dramatic criminal series such as "True Detective", "The Killing", "Mindhunter" or "Sharp Objects".
I love The Sinner, going to watch Sharp Objects or Mindhunter next
Sharp Objects is great, especially those last 2-3 episodes.
The night of, the fall, river, tin star s1, save me (incredible! And lenny james!), the sinner s1 (particularly impressed by the tremendous acting), 1983 (love celebral thinking series), happey valley, tabula, seven seconds, safe, the missing s1 & s2, and then there were none, the honourable woman, the shadow line (last two superb) ,broadchurch, true detective s1 and s3
Oh, True Detective season 3 is worth it? I heard it was better than 2 but still not great.
Depends if you're listening to the right people. It's very good. It makes season 2 even worse and the showrunner went back to his roots as in season 1. I would say where s1 was more mythology, season 3 is more unreliable narrator elements, which is very engrossing. I will also say this, if you liked Shap objects, I cant imagine anyone not liking this EXCEPT that it's more of a thinking show. Theres 3 different timelines. It's very impressive how its written and its tight, though theres only 2 episodes to go, so I'm reluctant to say it belongs in the same sentence because right now, these 2 episodes can break the series as it's been building up to what could be an exceptional finale. It's a series where two characters take ten steps before saying anything. Not everyone like a hot burn. Personally, such shows don't bore me. They captivate me.
Very late reply but true detective s3 is absolutely worth it, it’s been very good with some incredible acting performances. Highly recommend it
Season 1 is great. Season 2 not so much.
I’ve heard a lot about it so maybe just a fluke you didn’t. There’s a lot of good TV out there right now.
Agreed. I got through maybe half of the first episode of s2 and just turned it off.
You are right. Lots of good series, quickly consumed.
Without spoiling it, why do you think season 2 is worse?
I loved it Bill Pullman is really becoming a great actor. It was a joy to watch him.
I was going to wait to see how things weighed out, but if its really good----I'll jump right in
Check out The Missing. Similar vibe to s1 of The Sinner.
hey
the story sounds very interesting. i like series about killers like - dexter, the night of.
but i see alot of bad reviews of people saying its garbage etc etc.... and some say it a masterpiece.
anyone here saw it and can give me an honest opinion? my problem is if im not sure a show is good i wont be able to concentrate lol.
It's not really much like Dexter at all, but it was a really good story/plot in my opinion. Worth a watch, but if you're not into it after the first three or four episodes, you probably won't be into it by the end.
Yes. It was a good show, enjoyable and I’m looking forward to the next season coming on Netflix.
The next season is nowhere near as good, just finished it last night and it definitely doesn't hold up.
I enjoyed the second season all the way until the big twist at the end. Just made me squirm.
Agreed it was alright. Definitely watch season 1 though OP.
ageee 100% on this.
Watch THE SINNER online free. It is finally available for streaming. Enjoy it!
It is not a serial killer story like a normal one but if you like psychological mysteries you will like this.
Season 1 is, don't waste your time on season 2.
Yes, definitely good.
So I’m on episode one of the sinner and I’m still trying to decide wether to stick around and keep watching or not. Anybody seen it and think it’s worth watching?
Yes! I just watched the entire season yesterday, I couldn't stop lol. It was the best series I've seen in awhile, and the ending is not predictable like most.
Same and the 2nd season is coming out in a couple weeks. Good time to watch it finally.
I wasn’t aware they were doing more seasons. I thought it was a miniseries. I’m five episodes in and loving it so far, without spoilers does the first season end in a satisfactory way?
^^ crime dramas aren’t even my thing and I ended up binge watching the series. Plus, season 2 airs August 1st on USA. IMDB gives it an 8/10 and I agree. A must watch.
It's good. Story gets resolved. Worth watching.
Very good series, a bit of a slow build but well worth the wait.
Yeah, keep at it, it's really good.
Decent. Little over done.
After watching the first season, I had no idea how the shows will turn out to be but they made the latter two seasons in a phenomenal manner with good cases and a great performance from the cast especially Bill Pullman.
I hope they don't make any more. Season 1 was enigmatic and engaging. Two was fairly boring and three was bloody terrible. It's going downhill at a rapid pace.
Bill Pullman is terrific in it. I didn't realize he was such a good actor
The first season was very good. It kept me guessing, and the story was great. Season 2 was ok. It wasn’t great, but it wasn’t bad. Season 3 was terrible imo. The story never progressed and there wasn’t a huge deep meaning that explained any character motivations.
I found S2 pretty great. S3 was weaker yeah I agree on that but it was still pretty great TV.
Season 3 wasn't quite like the other 2 and it really suffered for it but those first couple of seasons were really enjoyable, I agree
You won't be saying that after you catch up.
Season 1 is outstanding, the other seasons really failed to live up to the first one in my opinion.
Only season 1 is worth watching. The rest are bad
This is simply not true.
That was the case for me too. Watched season 1 and fell i love. Forced myself to go through season 2, season 3 I quit half way through episode 1.
I really enjoyed all the seasons, especially the last one.
Season 1 taught me to never play the song “Huggin & Kissin” on a beach ever.
My wife and I really enjoy this show, I thought the first two seasons were great and third was okay but still worth a watch. Bill Pullman puts in an excellent performance.
Adam has it on his watchlist and it’s directed by Antonio Campos.
It’s definitely a bit overrated but it’s not the worst. If it was anything more than a mini-series I’d say otherwise but It works as a 1 season type deal
Not all of it is directed by Campos
???? He only did 4 eps. Plus he directed the best episode of the Punisher.
Yeah I know. It’s just hard to find out if a show is overrated or not.
In regards to the performances, Jessica Biel gives her all, she cries in almost every episode and yet still feels restrained, really shows her maturity as an actor. Bill Pullman does well with what he's given, although it couldve been played by anyone, and there's an arc with him that goes nowhere and stops mid-season. Christopher Abbott isnt really given anything to do after the first few episodes. The child actors do really well surprisingly. Don't delve too deep into the plot towards the end of the series, a few gaping plot holes show up. Otherwise you'll have a good time.
My sister and I are looking for our next binge, and we narrowed the list down to these two shows. Both has fairly average scores though. I was told that "you" is a poor man's Dexter, yet I really liked Dexter, so I guess I am fine with it. Any other recommendations, preferably for thrillers (movies as well), are more than welcomed. Thanks in advance.
The Sinner I watched all seasons , I tried watching You and couldn’t get past 2 episodes.
The Sinner
"You" season 1 is good thou. Some others shows I'd check out....
"Rectify"
"Mr Mercedes"
"Hannibal"
Hannibal is a must watch.
Top notch acting and superb story
God, I could not handle how much time we spent watching that guy pee in Mr. Mercedes.
Huge thanks !
I loved season 2 of You and absolutely adored Jessica Biel’s season of The Sinner
The Sinner season 1 is good
Season 2 is average
Season 3 is some of the worst garbage pretentious TV I've ever watched. Wouldn't bother
No idea about season 4 as I've given up on this show
You in my opinion is a very solid show throughout
100% The last season was terrible.
Lol. What the hell was happening in season 3?!? I struggled!
Agree!
The fall, one of the most underrated series in my opinion.
Loved it in the theater. It’s definitely a really good movie. I did wonder about how much it’s something that I’ll want to go back to a lot?
Watch this it’ll make you want to go back
Im glad and I will buy this, but if any of yall haven't seen it yet and you CAN see it on the biggest screen you can, please go out and do that. This flick rewards getting enveloped in it all and every frame is gorgeous
I had a million life events happening when it was in theaters and I missed it. I hope it comes back at some point.
It’s out of your theaters already? It’s still here in Austin, Texas.
Seems likely it'll get some Oscars love and probably have a theatrical run again next February/March
Worth seeing in the theater imho
They'll probably do it at some stage since Bill seems to bring it up all the time since he saw it
I would prefer it at least one year after the release date, just so we can see the awards the film wins or is nominated for. I think five years removed would be better to see how it ages and what Coolger and co. do after Sinners.
Just finished season 4 and, sadly, the last. I was not expecting to be so captivated by this series. I typically am not super drown into "who dun it's", but man, what a compelling ahow and a grand performance of the lead character, detective Harry Ambrose. What did y'all think?
Excellent. First season was absolutely killer, but the entire series is worth it. The first time I watched Bill Pullman was as a child for Independence Day. He never disappoints.
I thought it was great. Season 3 being my personal favorite.
Honestly . . . the story for Season 3 was kind of terrible.
But Bomer and Pullman did the most amazing job with the script they were given. And they are so good, that I can just forgive it.
I loved their scenes together!
Most people don't care for season 3 and I can see why, but Bomer and Pullman were just so amazing in that season and their performances are why I love it so much.
I think this hits the nail on the head. Kind of badly written but some of the more egregious "wtf moments" are masked by some great performances.
Season 1 was one of the best shows I've ever seen. Each subsequent season was poor at best
I thought season 2 was the worst, season 3 decent but really likes season 4 apparently there was good praise for season 2 but it lacked a compelling unravel for me
I had a near opposite reaction. I loved season 2 and 4 the most.
I liked S1 very much but later ones had that "we had a an idea, made a limited series with it but after it was a success we tried to make more but failed to capture what made it good" feel to it. S2 was decent, S3 was so, so bad and S4 was a surprising improvement.
S3 really was staggeringly bad. Loved the other 3.
Yeah, a couple episodes into season 2 I wanted to bail but the sunk cost fallacy wouldn’t let me. I watched the whole series and really wanted it to get good again but it never did. The first season was worth watching, but after that don’t waste your time.
More Bill Pullman please
