TL;DR
Native LG Smart TV Apps
LG TVs run on WebOS, which supports a variety of apps. While mainstream services like Netflix, Amazon Prime Video, and Apple TV are available [1:1], users looking specifically for free options have found success with apps like Smarters Pro and Stremio
[2:1]
[2:2]. Smarters Pro is noted for its ease of use, while Stremio offers the ability to add IPTV to its addons
[2:3].
Alternative Streaming Devices
Many users recommend using external streaming devices such as the Nvidia Shield, Firestick, or Chromecast with Google TV. These devices often provide better performance and a wider range of apps than those available directly through the LG TV's WebOS [3:1]
[4:1]. The Firestick 4K Max is particularly recommended for its compatibility with Stremio and affordability
[4:3].
Paid Options with Free Trials
For those willing to consider paid apps with free trials, SmartOne was mentioned as a fast and reliable option for LG WebOS TVs. It offers a lifetime access for a one-time fee and includes a 15-day free trial [3:2].
Challenges with Native App Availability
Some users have experienced limitations in downloading new apps directly onto LG TVs, especially for specific news channels like Bloomberg [5]. In these cases, using external devices or exploring other app stores might be necessary to expand the available options
[5:1].
Recommendation Beyond Discussions
If you're primarily interested in free streaming apps, starting with Smarters Pro and Stremio is advisable. For broader app access and potentially better performance, investing in an external streaming device like the Firestick or Chromecast could significantly enhance your viewing experience.
Which apps can i possibly download to watch series and sports games on a lg smart tv?
Apple, Netflix, Amazon etc
Hello everyone,
I need a good app for my LG TV. Any suggestions?
Stremio is on there and I think there's a way to add IPTV to the addons
IBO Player Pro was recommended by my source and works great but has a bit of function over form approach. I like that it is easy to hide categories you don't want to be shown.
Smarters is my backup option.
Me to I just use firesticks got a LG and a Sony Smart TV
Would also like to know the answer to this 🤔

Smarters pro works free on lg website.
People using LG Smart TV (WebOS), what apps do you use to watch channels? (preferably free, if there are any good ones)
Check if you have SmartOne, I had it on my old LG WebOS TV, it's by far the best and fastest app I've used.
It's not free but for 13$ you have a lifetime access so it's worth it and you have a 15 day free trial

Lastly, please do not expect people here to tell you exactly which service you should choose. Asking that is asking to be scammed. If you're looking for something specific, please do some research first. You're more likely to get a good response by saying "I checked the following providers and found X was pretty good but missing this vital channel / had buffering issues, while Y was terrible. What else should I look into?"

Trying to figure out the same thing. I use the Smarters app, it’s decent enough. Probably just going to get the ONN box/Tivimate combo like everyone here suggests.
The best app you can use is streaming device with the usual apps rather than the TV built-in option. TVs don’t tend to have a lot of horsepower and you’re streaming device will receive updates and new applications long after you’ve exceeded the time that the TV gets updates
I like stremio i have it on my phone and it is the best is there a way to install this on lg smart tv?
Late to the conversation.. but LG and Samsung both have apps now.
It's kinda buggy on Samsung. Not so buggy on LG. Works amazing on firestick
Hello. Even today the problem of loading errors persists within the Stremio app on my Samsung Crystal UHD smart TV and everything was perfect months ago. In order to see something I have to project from Stremio on the SmartPhone to the TV. Does anyone know what to do?
The firestick 4k max is on sale for like 35$ does really well with stremio.
Buy a firestick or chromecast
No. There is thread like this every week, and the answer is always no.
Exactly this.
Buy an android tv os media player like nvidia shield, firetvstick, chromecast w/googletv etc. Then plug it in to your lgtv. Goodluck.
i will try that thanks
We specified commercial lg640 series tvs on a project because they are Crestron connected. However the client wants internet tv specifically to download apps to get news channels. The only app the tv comes with is YouTube. And we can’t find any options to download new apps such as Bloomberg. Is there a solution for getting apps on these TVs ?

Looks like they have WebOS 3.5

Not much in the way of mainstream apps but there are a few radio apps you could tune to the news.
It works fine for regular Hulu shows, but when I use it to watch live TV, it has to buffer sometimes, and during commercials, it kind of pauses before a lot of the commercials, like it has to load the commercial. And you can't use the guide while TV plays in the background. If you go to the guide, the video and audio completely stops.
Thankfully I have a PS5, and the Hulu app works perfectly there. Which is weird, usually the game console version of a streaming app is the one that's lacking. Hulu is the only one where I have to turn on my PS5 because the one built into my LG TV is so lackluster.
So for me it's a minor inconvenience, but I have no idea why the LG app is still like this. Been this way as long as I've been subscribed.
I have an lg smart tv and i use a firestick instead.
The apps on Vizio stink too. I moved to FireTV devices.
My in laws have the Samsung tv OS. It’s horrendous. The app icons are small and just a very long horizontal bar of apps. You click on hulu and then wait 30 seconds or longer for hulu to load. Roku is 100000 times better than any of these TV OS’s
I have a Vizio smart TV and the Hulu app is truly horrible. It’s my bedroom tv so I don’t care but it is so laggy trying to ffwd through ads and doing anything live TV related. It’s not AS bad with regular Hulu but it’s still super slow compared to the Netflix app. The one handy thing is I found a replacement controller online that has a Hulu button at the top which can quickly get me to the app but it doesn’t erase the other shitty aspects.
Yeah, I also hated it, so I went with Roku and never looked back.
Maybe with Disney owning 100% of Hulu they'll finally put some effort into improving the apps. It's good I already happened to have another device that can play it well. If I didn't have my PS5, I wouldn't have bought a Roku or a Fire stick or anything like that. I just would've tried YouTube TV or something similar.
I'm honestly impressed with Samsung's user interface and live TV. I bought my neighbor a 58" Hisense/Roku and I do not like it at all. It seems like it buffers a lot and it's 15 feet from the router.
As an employee, I wholeheartedly agree. Any time I hear someone tell me they’re using an LG, Samsung, or Vizio, a little part of me dies inside. Roku and FireTV for the win
Do you have any idea why the built-in TV apps are so flawed? I use a lot of streaming services, and I don't have any problems using the LG versions of Netflix, Max, Peacock. Even the Disney+ LG app works great. It's only Hulu where I have to use a different device.
Honestly? I have no idea. I personally love to blame the devices for being crap, especially considering the long, LONG list of Vizio devices we no longer support since Vizio dropped them, but maybe the app just isn’t optimized for them to begin with Edit: That was supposed to say LG, but they both have the same issues with dropping support and making app makers adapt
Just bought a PS5 and I have an LG CX OLED TV. Wondering if I should stream Amazon Prime, Netflix, Hulu, etc through the TV apps or through the PS5. Pros? Cons?
No HBO Max for either, yet. This is interesting since all of Warner’s 2021 movie lineup is going through HBO Max.
The LG Native apps are good and won’t be on game mode when watching, I would stick with them .
I’ve tried nearly everything for streaming and the Apple TV4K is the best overall
The LG CX has Dolby Vision, but the ps5 does not (yet). I think it's better to stream on the TV apps, but someone correct me if I'm wrong.
How do you know it's a yet?
Only con I can think of is power consumption. If the TV has the same apps that you need, I would rather use that instead of having both the TV and PS5 using up power.
This.
The LG apps are among the best apps for any of those platforms. They rival the apps found on Amazon and google streaming devices and Nvidia shield and Apple TV.
If they are investing billions in streaming the competition why aren't they building an app for LG OS TV's? All the streaming services in the world have a native app for this OS.
Best thing you can do for a LG oled is add a Apple TV4K
On my Philips TV there is also no app available in the app store, but sideloading the Android TV app works great
Just buy a streaming box. TV apps are notoriously poo
Even on 1k€+ TVs?
Honestly if you can drop 1k on a TV, you can afford 50 bucks for a streaming box. It's so worth it and you won't have to deal with badly optimized apps made for LG/Samsung etc.
Sony and Samsung don't have a dedicated app available (due to heavily customized Android TV on Sony & Tizen OS for Samsung.
But a cheap generic Google TV that you can buy from Amazon gets the app
There aren't that many useful apps in LG's appstore. The local streaming apps for our national tv stations and the usual streaming apps like Netflix, Amazon. The rest is all iptv apps and games.
I've used a chromecast with the f1tv app installed on it for years but my tv broke and my new one (also LG, a C4) has a chromecast build in but no option to install apps on it and the LG store, like the OP says doesn't have the F1TV app either. So I'm back to casting the stream from the app on my phone to the chromecast in my tv.
Just buy an Apple TV. Best experience on every screen
Do they have one for Samsung TV?
And for Sony? Android 10?
No - you have to side load it - they only support Google TV and not Sony's customized Android.
Ok so maybe we are at cross-puproses with terminology here.
Sideloading to me means downloading g an app file, the. Another apk that lets you install that apk file on the device.
This is not needed for at least a few Sony Android TV's. I have two Bravia 4k vh21 TVs and, while the F1TV app is not available in the store you do not have to sideload it.
As long as an Android phone and the TV are logged in to the same account you can simply push the app to the TV using your phone and the Google Play Store.
Just find the app in the play store and you should see the text "Available on more devices' and it should list your TV. You just hit the install button and within a very short time it will appear on the TV list of apps.
I today got my C2 for gaming (PC and console) and I am absolutely regretting not doing it sooner. My one question for my mixed use is whether I should use the C2 native apps, the PS5 apps, or add a Roku into the mix?
I had to get an Nvidia Shield to get Crunchyroll and HIDIVE, but they have most of the others on the LG OS
I use the LG apps (disney, Netflix, Viaplay) and they seem to be ok
I suggest the ps5 app or the Roku app, I personally use a Apple TV because I can get the full benefit from my airpod pros
Thanks, that’s actually very cool idea to use the AirPods at night.
I just got my C2 as well but am wondering why use the native apps? I plan to use my computer for everything.
Dolby Vision
Yes, LG apps are in general very good. Streaming 4K Dolby vision content on Netflix, Disney, Max, Amazon, etc is great.
