What Redditors are Saying

Troubleshooting LG TV App Issues

TL;DR

  • Try changing the DNS server to 8.8.8.8 [1:2].
  • Consider using external streaming devices like Google TV or Apple TV for a more reliable experience [3:1].

Common Solutions

Several users have reported issues with apps not opening or updating on LG TVs after updates. A common fix suggested is to change the DNS server to 8.8.8.8, which has worked for some users [1:2][1:6]. Additionally, turning off the TV for a while might resolve the issue [1:1].

External Streaming Devices

Many users recommend using external streaming devices such as Google TV Streamer, Apple TV, or gaming consoles like PS5 for streaming services [3:1][3:6]. These devices often provide better performance and reliability compared to the built-in TV apps, reducing frustration with app-related issues.

Avoiding Updates

Some users suggest avoiding updates if your current setup is working fine, as updates can sometimes introduce new problems without adding significant value [3:5][3:8]. If you choose this route, ensure that your device remains secure and functional without the latest updates.

Reinstallation of Apps

For specific app issues, uninstalling and reinstalling the problematic app might help [4:1][4:4]. This approach can clear any corrupted data and restore functionality.

Server Outages

Occasionally, app issues may be due to server outages affecting LG's systems globally [5:1][5:2]. In such cases, waiting for the servers to come back online might be necessary.

By considering these troubleshooting steps and alternatives, you can potentially resolve app issues on your LG TV or enhance your viewing experience through external devices.

ORIGINAL POST

Well I saw there was an update so I installed it. After it was done I got signed out of my LG account and had to accept all the terms and conditions. Well I do all that and when I go to open up Netflix I get told that I need to update the app to open it. I click update and the download shows it’s updating and once done I get a notification saying it did not install. It happens for every other app I have and Cannot open a thing. Very frustrating. How do I go about fixing this?

I know the shit should just work on the 1000 plus dollar piece of technology we all bought, but it can't be said enough that you should just bite the bullet and get a streaming device. You'll never have to worry about this, it's way faster, covers any niche apps you may want, and no ads.

I’ve got a CX and now run multiple streaming services through my PS5. Prime would keep hanging up, then Netflix started giving me issues. So much less hassle using the PS5

When I first got my G4 I thought I finally didn't need a separate device, but the performance has degraded so fast I'll probably end up with one in a few months. I'm holding out to see if there is a new apple TV later this year. Really sad that a 3K TV can't afford a chipset/software that can't run as well as a 10 year old phone.

Fandango APP on LG tv froze on the splash screen

Posted by BadSpotBailey · in r/vudu · 4 months ago

This is the app that comes with the TV. (LG 75", a couple years old) This whole weekend when choosing Fandango the screen displays Fandango but never goes further. Pressing the exit button gets back to the LG menu and other apps work. Power cycled the tv didn't help. Doesn't show that any software out of date. It has been working. Anyone else use the Fandango app from a LG tv?

What software does the tv use? If it's android, I suggest enabling developer and limiting background processes. It will speed up the tv and may help. I had to do this with my bravia.

LG OLED apps not working.

Posted by dogseatbees · in r/OLED · 5 years ago

All of our apps were working just fine. Went into Amazon prime and tried to play something. Got some kind of unable to play right now message. Tried to get into other apps and nothing happens when I click on them. With ones I haven’t used in a while, it gives me the option to update but doesn’t really update it. Home network is working fine and it’s playing the IP channels just fine. Tried turning the tv off and back on but that does nothing. Need help

In settings there is a “quick start” feature, that’s like putting your computer into standby, that doesn’t really turn it off.

Disable any QuickStart/fast boot features. Turn off, then turn on again.

Try rebooting the TV by holding the power button at the TV for more than 5 or 10 seconds until the power led flashes.

LG TV App suddenly broken

Posted by MrXBob · in r/PleX · 3 years ago

This morning the app was fine, but now if I try to open a TV show nothing happens. If I press and hold, I get the play menu - but when trying to play from here I always get "unexpected error".

I've reinstalled the app and rebooted the TV numerous times. I've also rebooted the PC Plex runs on.

All my other apps (Samsung TV, Android and Web) are working fine on this server. It's my server running on the local network.

7 upvotes on reddit
DiscostewSM · 3 years ago

Yep. LG C1 here with Plex Media Server via Synology NAS. Everything works except the Plex app on the TV.

I even tried out the Series X app (so it can output to the TV), and that works, though for some reason, resuming a 2nd time with one of my videos would get it stuck in a loading loop. Restarting the video, and seeking/skipping to the original resume spot worked. Unfortunately, 7.1 AAC has to transcode, and isn't outputting out my rear speakers.

I've had multiple different brands of "smart" TV over the years; LG, Vizio, and a few others. The most reliable of them by far has been the bargain-bin Roku TVs by TCL.

I just want a giant "computer monitor" type display that works reliably and uses plug-in devices. Get it together, manufacturers!

LG C1. "apps" app itself not working, all other apps work fine.

Posted by yphastos · in r/OLED · 3 years ago

Since a few days ago or even a couple of weeks, when I try to launch the "apps" app, after the splash screen shows (a pinkish screen with the "apps" icon in the middle), a few seconds later it goes to a blank screen (completely black), stays there and nothing happens. The cursor does show if I shake the remote, but nothing else shows, no error message, no loading icon, nothing at all.

To clarify, I mean the main app called "APPS" itself, the one which logo is 4 small pink squares. that is, the app gallery/store, the place where I can download and update other apps, etc.

Other apps (youtube, prime, netflix...) work just fine, also the "home" app, the "gallery" app, the "input" app, etc. it is only the main "apps" app itself that doesn't work.

I've tried the old trick of turning off the tv (until the click sound), and unplug it from the power, and reconnect it after around 30-60 seconds, even 5 minutes, to no avail.

I've also tried removing my downloaded "themes" on the gallery app, because elsewhere they mentioned it could be my memory being full. I really doubt it because I only had two extra "galleries", but still erasing them didn't fix it. And I've only had the tv for a couple months.

What I haven't tried is clearing the apps cache, BUT iirc, that's possible only inside the 'apps' app itself, so I can't even do that. Is it possible from somewhere else to clear apps cache, including the main "apps" app?

I've also disabled the "quick start+" option, to force the TV to clear it's memory each time, but still didn't fix the problem.

I've of course also made sure I'm on the latest OS version, and I'm on 03.33.11.

I'd like to avoid having to do a "factory reset", because I'd lose my settings for each input/app.

What else could I do?

This morning webos started working and I'm getting a constant wifi connection, I can only assume its has something to do with the updates LG does in the past the software updates have caused issues. To be honest I wouldn't go down the route of changing the TV LG panels are brilliant but saying that if your having constant issues with the software and its bugging you then mate change it for your peace of mind

1 upvotes on reddit
CrimPhD · 3 years ago

I did a “soft” reset by holding the main power button (under the red light in the middle of the TV) for 15 seconds. Waited 5-10 mins, turned it back on and the issue was resolved. Don’t know if that will help, but I had the same issue as you.

2 upvotes on reddit
R
rophel · 3 years ago

That's usually the trick with any smart TV.

Pulling the power cord also works, basically when it's turned off it's not actually off so it never actually reboots fully.

1 upvotes on reddit
yphastos · OP · 3 years ago

yeah, I've attempted that but still didn't fix the "apps" app. Every other app works well, some of them even say they have pending updates. If I choose to update, it goes blank. I guess internally it sends me to the "apps" app, but then nothing happens, so I rather leave them "non updated" and not risk to get them stuck or something.

I hope a next OS update fixes the issue.

1 upvotes on reddit
yphastos · OP · 3 years ago

did you also have issues ONLY with the "apps" app?, or others? because in my case it is only such app that doesn't work, (and I can't update other apps either).

I've tried everything (turning off via button, unplugging, disabling quick start, soft reset, etc) except a complete factory reset, to no avail.

troubleshooting lg tv app issues

Key Considerations for Troubleshooting LG TV App Issues

  1. Check Internet Connection:

    • Ensure your LG TV is connected to the internet. You can test this by trying to stream content from another app or checking the network settings.
  2. Update Software:

    • Make sure your TV's firmware is up to date. Go to Settings > All Settings > General > About This TV > Check for Updates.
  3. Restart the TV:

    • Sometimes, a simple restart can resolve app issues. Turn off the TV, unplug it for a minute, then plug it back in and turn it on.
  4. Reinstall the App:

    • If a specific app is not working, try uninstalling and then reinstalling it. Go to the app, press and hold the "OK" button, and select "Delete." Then, reinstall it from the LG Content Store.
  5. Clear Cache:

    • Some LG TVs allow you to clear the cache for specific apps. Go to Settings > All Settings > General > Manage Storage to clear app data.
  6. Check App Compatibility:

    • Ensure that the app is compatible with your LG TV model. Some apps may not support older models.
  7. Factory Reset (Last Resort):

    • If all else fails, consider performing a factory reset. This will erase all settings and apps, so use it as a last resort. Go to Settings > All Settings > General > Reset to Initial Settings.

Recommendation: Start with checking your internet connection and updating the software, as these are the most common issues. If the problem persists, try reinstalling the app or clearing the cache. If you frequently experience issues with multiple apps, a factory reset may be necessary.
