End of list
Metroid Dread
Mario Odyssey
Kirby Forgotten Land
Mario Kart 8
Donkey Kong Countty Tropical Freeze
Link's Awakening remake
Metroid Prime
Paper Mario Origami King
Prince of Persia The Lost Crown
Skyward Sword HD
Pokemon SV
Fire emblem 3 houses
I only have one and that is a demo so you can try for free. It's the boomerang Fu demo, it is so addictive and you can just pick up and play feels like a full game even though it's just a demo.
Hey r/Switch, I just got my hands on a brand new Nintendo Switch, and I'm beyond hyped to jump in! It's been a minute since I've been in the Nintendo world my last console was a 3DS that was basically just for Pokémon. My main gaming has been on the Xbox Series X, so this is a totally different scene for me. Since I missed out on the first two Switches, everything about this is new.
I've heard all about the big names like The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild and Super Mario Odyssey, but the library is huge and I'm feeling a little overwhelmed by all the amazing reviews
. I'm down for pretty much anything single player adventures, party games, RPGs, indies, you name it. So, for all you seasoned Switch players, what should I check out first?
DRAGON QUEST XI S
I really loved playing it on the Switch.
All I will say is: From a Xbox/Switch player to soon to be another, have fun with the ABXY prompts. 😂
I got my Switch 2 yesterday after years of Xbox/PS gaming (my last Nintendo console was the Gamecube and what swung it for me was the Gamecube games on the Online service). But God yes, those bloody A and B buttons! 🤣
Hey, I feel you on the A/B button swap 😂 Coming from Xbox/PS it feels totally backwards. If you’re into the GameCube layout though, you might want to check out the NYXI Wizard controller. It’s basically a modern wireless pad but keeps that classic GameCube button layout, so it feels super natural for Smash or any of the retro stuff on the Online service. Been a lifesaver for me switching back to Nintendo!
Its not so different from any other console but now you can play Nintendo games
I will give you live hack to save a lot of money. If you don't want to have physical version try this. Before buying a new game, check it on website Deku Deals. It shows you when a game was last on sale and how much it cost then and now. This sales are based on official nintendo shop, so you will not buy it from someone else. Some games are so much cheaper in sale even 90% if you buying some older games. Hope it helps!
Just buy breath of the wild. There's no questions that this is THE switch game.
Hi everyone, I'm someone who never owned a Switch, but is looking forward to buying the Switch 2. I already know I'll get Mario Kart World, but I'm wondering what other games should I buy? I don't want to get bored of Mario Kart and have nothing to do, so I'm just looking for a few recommendations.
Mario Odyssey And Zelda breath of the wild are must-haves.
I also would recommend Mario Maker 2, Metroid dread has a demo and I highly recommend it. And Kirby and the forgotten land is also really good.
Breath of the wild is a great open world game that takes a while to get through.
Super Mario bros. Wonder is a fantastic 2d platformer
There are a ton of great low prices indie games on the eshop
Super Mario party jamboree is great fun with friends
Don't forget Kirby
Pack this comment section up. This is the best answer.
Breath of the Wild. Play it first and if you like it (you will) get Tears of the Kingdom sometime after. Definitely get the Switch 2 upgrades for them but if you can find a discounted copy of the game for the original Switch and then buy the upgrade pack it will work out cheaper.
Bro play both Zeldas with the upgrades. If I could experience any game for the first time again it would be both of them. They are truly incredible.
First and foremost, don’t limit yourself to just Switch 2 games. There are dozens upon dozens of brilliant games for the OG Switch. Sure, they won’t look as good, but if you’re anything like me, gameplay is significantly more important than just shiny visuals.
There’s the Luigi’s Mansion games, Xenoblade(s), Donkey Kong Country/Tropical Freeze, several good to amazing Zelda games, a couple of must play Metroid games, several excellent Mario games, and many more. And that’s before we even touch on the indies and third party games.
Haven't had a nintendo console since my gamecube broke.
I'm looking for some fun exclusive games.
Obviously I'm buying all the zelda ganes and smash bros. But if there's anything I'm missing I would love to hear it.
Note that if the game is on other consoles then I'm not worried about it.
Just looking for those gems
Here are some I’ve enjoyed:
Some that I own, in my backlog that I am looking forward to playing:
Games that I’ve seen others praise that I either don’t own or own and haven’t fallen in love with:
Left out Smash/Zelda since you mentioned those were ones on your list already.
Congrats on the purchase!
Kirby forgotten land is great! Also love Metroid dread and none on this list are bad
3d all stars sucks because I’m pretty sure it’s expensive to get since it’s out of print and no longer sold digitally. Great game collection though if you can get it at a reasonable price
I’m really looking forward to playing Kirby after checking out the demo!
And I got lucky with 3D All Stars as I found a copy while in Japan for ~$40, but yes it is expensive state side.
I’m going to add 2 to the list.
Pokémon Snap and Splatoon. Outside of a few on this list, those eat up so much time. Side order for Splatoon 3 is rather addictive if you like spite games. The community is still active, so you won’t have trouble hopping in.
Mario Odyssey is a good start
My favorite games are Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Animal Crossing. From what you've said you're buying, you might also enjoy Super Mario Odyssey.
Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart 8, and Splatoon 3 are arguably all the best entries in their respective series
Do you have a pc or any other console you play games on?
Edit: ah nvm i read you post a little more closely. Fantasy life that is coming out soon is a good game.
Hi all,
Just got the Nintendo Switch and looking for game suggestions. I am open to any game, any genre!
The various Mario games are always good, both the new ones and the re-releases from the previous consoles. Mario Kart, Mario Maker 2, there's a 3D pack that has SM 64/SM Sunshine/SM Galaxy on the one cartridge.
Zelda: Breath Of The Wild
Ghostbusters
The NES and SNES virtual consoles provided with Nintendo Online.
Those are the main ones I play on mine.
Great suggestions!
The say BOTW is like one of the best games ever made so... might try it
I did get BOTW, huge Zelda fan so I knew that was a must have.
In terms of greatness (story, gameplay) would you say it’s better than Ocarina of Time? Because that game holds the crown for me currently.
Idk never played Ocarina of Time
Breath of the Wild, Mario odyssey and Smash Bros ultimate.
Splatoon2, Mariokart8, and BOTW are my top 3.
(Exclusive titles, anyway)
Yeah I’m thinking mostly exclusive games with this post. Great suggestions!
If you never played it, try Untitled Goose Game, it’s absolutely fantastic
I recently bought a nintendo switch, which should be delivered tomorrow together with Pokemon. I already know I am going to buy SuperSmash, but I am looking for a few other games to play. I like playing games such as spiderman(I also own a PS4), GoW, so more like long singleplayer games with a good story. But I also like to play games such as overwatch. Now I am looking for some games to play with or without friends and was hoping you guys got some nice recommendations.
That's just my top 5, check out octopath traveler and Xenoblade Chronicles (kinda "niche" games)
Breath of the Wild, Hollow Knight, and Mario Odyssey.
KIRBY. Enough said.
just shapes and beats
If you like long single-player games then Zelda BOTW is an absolute must. I also highly recommend Mario Odyssey.
Got my Switch 2 about a 2 weeks ago and absolutely loving it (never owned the first Switch). Been playing a bunch of Mario Kart, Pokémon Legends Arceus, and Super Smash!
Looking for any game recommendations! Any “must play” Nintendo games I’ve been missing out on? I was thinking about buying Mario Odyssey or DK Bananza.
Must plays
Oddyssey Bananza Sonic x Shadow generations switch 2 version WWE 2k25 Cyber punk ( if you haven't played it) Hogwarts legacy ( buy the switch 1 version it's on sale for 11....pay another 11 and upgrade it for total 22 dollars !)
You’ll probably see this a hundred times, but Breath of the Wild is an obvious choice. It’s widely considered one of, if not the best, Switch game ever. I’m very biased to Pokemon as a whole, and I think every Pokemon switch title was fun, but my favorite was Scarlet/Violet (as well as Arceus but you already have that).
For sure will give BOTW a shot!
Tears of the kingdom is the best switch game ever
odyssey is a must too, and play it before bananza
My friend lent me TotK because he couldn't find BotW. Should I play it or not? I started a bit, couldn't help my self
I don’t think it’s a problem if you go ahead and play it. If you’re super concerned about getting the entire story, I’d play BOTW first, but if you’re just wanting to play a super fun game and don’t care a whole lot about the story, go ahead with TOTK.
I mean you need to get on BOTW, Odyssey and Bananza ASAP!!!
I can’t recommend Metroid Dread enough. It’s such a good game that I don’t hear anyone talk about anymore.
Just need youtube now
if only it actually worked on the console
Looking for 4-5 games to buy, definitely going to get smash bros and Pokemon
Breath of the wild for sure
Story of Seasons if you are into Harvest Moon
A Mario game. Odyssey is super fun, 3d world is more like the SNES games, and comes with Bowser's fury too, which I haven't checked out much yet but looks fun so far. I honestly really enjoyed Paper Mario even.
If you're into RPGs maybe The Witcher or Skyrim.
Mario Odyssey and Breath of the Wild are must buys
Xenoblade Chronicles. The whole trilogy.
This. Get XB1: Definitive Edition. Then XB2. Then XB2: Torna: The Golden Country. Then XB3.
What I would consider the essentials:
Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild Mario Odyssey Fire Emblem: 3 houses Let’s go Evee/Pikachu Xenoblade chronicles 1-3 Mario Kart Super smash bros Luigi’s Mansion 3
Lots more than this are should buys, but this will cover a variety of genre and are each solid games.
Since the original NES, I am getting Nintendo. Not that I dislike Nintendo, but I only purchased the others. Any suggestions?
PS: more exclusive games to Nintendo.
Would recommend the Monster Hunter games and for some surprisingly good strategy Mario Vs Rabids with the caveat of maybe waiting till that’s on sale
Rune Factory 4 Special (although it's on all consoles now). It's still a really fun Farming Action RPG, that was originally on the 3DS, then remastered for the Switch 😉
I just bought Rune Factory 5 yesterday, but I haven't played enough to recommend it yet. I'm quite enjoying it so far though 🙂
Oh shit 5 is out? I’ve been eyeing this one for a bit.
Yeah the English/Western version was released on the 25th of March, I think. I've been waiting for sooo long to play it haha. It's pretty fun 🙂
Dead Cells and Enter the Gungeon
thanks for the suggestion but I am thinking for exclusive games for Nintendo.
My apologies!
Breath of the wild for sure. probably still best game on switch.
If you liked mario games on the snes, try mario odyssey, to see how far the series has come, it's pretty good!
If you don't have it already on pc, hollow knight, best metroidvania in the past 10 years.
If you like pokemon, you already have all those games, but I recommend pokemon snap or new mystery dungeon.
Rhythm games? Cytus, deemo, arcaea, voez are pretty good value for their money on switch (terrible value on android/ios), often half price here too.
Speaking of half price. dekudeals is the best place to look at nintendo e-shop titles. shows you stuff that are on sale. Things that are currently at their lowest ever. AND! It doesn't lag! (nintendo e shop is very laggy) Definitely worth a browse.
https://www.dekudeals.com/hottest
If you want to play with friends all over the globe, super smash bros is a fun game, not as fun as smash 4 on 3ds, but still incredible.
Mario kart 8 just recently got announced more dlc. 48 tracks on it's way for the next 2 years. It has longevity and people will be racing for a long time after that too.
Yeah, I've got dekudeals permanently opened in a tab on my phone, sorted by newest deals. It's awesome. I'd totally recommend keeping an eye on it as well.
It's how I decide on, and filter through games on the eShop. Without having to deal with lag on the Switch.
Dude, super thanks. I definitely get BotW. Everyone says so. Only played Link to the Past. lol. Your other suggestion and info will be looked into. Thanks again.
Breath of the Wild needs to be #1
Snowrunner. It’s a game about off-road trucking and at first blush you probably think it’s like so many throw away vehicle games.
If you get past the tutorial and get a couple trucks, it is a super deep game.
It is equal parts super chill and absolutely terrifying.
I probably have a couple hundred hours into this game across switch and Xbox.
Supposedly they are implementing cross play for switch, PlayStation, Xbox, and pc. Up to 4 players.
Damn I want snowrunner so bad…but it’s gotta get to $20
I hear you! I bought my physical copy off Amazon last year for $20. It does happen once or twice a year!
Tell us first what games you like, otherwise you're bound to get bad recommendations.
No, I just want games
Mario Odyssey
Luigis Mansion
best games for the new Nintendo Switch

Multiplayer Options: If you enjoy playing with friends or family, look for games that offer local or online multiplayer features.
Exclusive Titles: The Switch has several exclusive games that are highly acclaimed, so prioritize those for a unique experience.
Replayability: Games with rich content, side quests, or online modes can provide more value and longer playtime.
Age Appropriateness: Ensure the games are suitable for your age group or the age group of players if buying for someone else.
Top Recommendations:
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild
Super Mario Odyssey
Animal Crossing: New Horizons
Splatoon 3
Metroid Dread
Fire Emblem: Three Houses
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
Recommendation: Start with The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild if you haven't played it yet; it's often considered one of the best games of all time and showcases the Switch's capabilities beautifully. For multiplayer fun, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is a must-have.
