Best Nintendo Switch Accessories and Peripherals

TL;DR

  • Essential accessories: Pro Controller, carrying case, screen protector, micro SD card.
  • Popular brands: Skull & Co., Human Things, WaterField.

Essential Accessories

For new Nintendo Switch owners, several accessories are considered essential. A good carrying case is highly recommended to protect your Switch during travel [2:1]. The Pro Controller is favored for TV play due to its comfort and ease of use compared to Joy-Cons [2:4][5:10]. A screen protector is also suggested to prevent scratches [1:7][2:3]. Additionally, a large micro SD card, preferably 512GB or more, is useful for expanding storage capacity [2:2].

Popular Brands and Products

Several brands have become popular among Switch users for their high-quality accessories. Skull & Co. grips are praised for enhancing handheld gameplay comfort [1:5][5:5]. Human Things offers the "Genki" Bluetooth adapter for wireless headphones and the "Covert dock," which is a portable charger/dock [5:1]. WaterField cases are highly regarded for their durability and design [5:4].

Unique Accessories

Some users have found unique accessories that enhance their gaming experience. The 8bitdo SN30 Pro+ controller is noted for its excellent D-pad and compatibility with PC, although it lacks some features like HD rumble and amiibo support [5:3]. For those interested in audio solutions, the Gulikit Bluetooth headphone adapter is recommended as a compact alternative to other adapters [5:8].

Emerging Trends

There has been speculation about a slowdown in OG/OLED Switch accessories, possibly due to anticipation for new models or updates [4]. GameStop has started offering branded accessories for the rumored Switch 2, including carry cases, charging docks, and large micro SD cards [3].

Recommendations Beyond Discussions

While these discussions provide valuable insights into popular accessories, it's important to consider your personal gaming habits when choosing peripherals. If you frequently play multiplayer games, additional Joy-Cons or controllers may be beneficial. For those who travel often, investing in a durable case and portable charging solutions could be worthwhile. Always check reviews and compatibility before purchasing third-party accessories to ensure they meet your needs and safety standards.

ORIGINAL POST

When i bought the switch i was dreading all the extra crap id need but honestly its one of my favorite parts of having one. Im always trying to find the next best setup. So far ive amassed that gray folio nintendo case, the nyko swivel grips and dockable thincase, the go play grip and today i grabbed the skull and co grip case bundle. Im very excited for what hopefully is my main and final case.whatve you got?

Amfilm tempered glass screen protector, ugreen usb 3.0 to rj45 ethernet adapter, nyko pro controller charging block (1 so far), 4 pro controllers. I'll probably get another set of joycons (as much as I dislike them...) when super mario party comes out.

May I ask why? not in a passive aggressive way, but the switch is a huge purchase for me and I'd like to protect it best as I can from accidents.

2 pro controllers (one basic black one and one is the 16 but colorware one)

I've gone through 3 cases to try and find the perfect case, right now Orzly is my main one since it lets me have the handheld grip on the switch too.

I have a Switch Handheld grip ordered through Indiegogo made by Satisfye, it comes with another good looking case.

Cheap silicon Joycon grips for using detached Joycons.

A set of Skull and Co joystick grips because the default joysticks mediocre.

Charge and Play Joycon grip - not what I thought it was, I though it'd extend battery life.

256gb microSD card

Screen protector.

I haven't really bought much compared to other consoles. Mostly just cases and handheld mode grips.

The number one thing you need is a good carrying case.

The switch OLED comes with a plastic screen protector applied so unless you regularly smash your screens, you probably won’t need a screen protector.

A stylus can s good if you plan to play games like Mario maker.

And finally a pro controller is good for playing on the tv but the joycons are perfectly usable and I my opinion they are not as uncomfortable as everyone says.

Go check out the Gamestop brand accessories for the Nintendo Switch 2- carry case, charging docks, joy-con grips, 1 tb micro SD card. They've been busy making exclusive gear that looks great. Once we pop I'll have to get a switch 2 for all my neighbors and the wifes boyfriend. Accessories included.

Oh nice, didn't know they were listed already. I already see a few things I want. A memory card, screen protector (wish it had the install kit like the Switch one does), carry case... No clue what the TV adapter is about, the system should already come with the dock.

Anecdotal speculation: OG/OLED Switch Accessories slowing

Posted by Marvin777 · in r/NintendoSwitch2 · 8 months ago

I am part of a product reviews panel for a massive retailer (which shall remain unnamed and no hints given so as not to jeopardize my position). I am able to browse products and have them sent to me for reviewing. Six months ago, I would find a lot of different accessories and controllers, etc for the Switch. Now there is almost nothing. There are still a few things trickling in but nothing like summer of this year. I literally could find anything on there from screen protectors to controllers to cases, docks, etc. Everything. Now there is basically nothing. A few repair parts is about it. Based on that, I am 100% speculating that the manufacturers of the accessories are positioning their product line for the Switch 2 and will minimize OG/OLED Switch accessories.

My favorite accessories are made by this small independent business called Human Things. They make the “Genki” which is a Bluetooth adapter that allows you to connect your wireless headphones, and also comes with a brilliant portable stand and microphone for voice chat that plugs in to the aux port. It’s all packaged in a case that looks identical to other Switch games too!

They also make a product called the “Covert dock” which is the most portable dock / charger you’ll find. They did extensive research to ensure the dock matches all specifications and authored a paper explaining why other third party docks can be dangerous / brick your console. The one they make is high quality and you don’t need to worry about that risk. It also comes with global travel adapters.

Aside from those two accessories, WaterField (aka SF Bags) makes some brilliant Switch cases made from premium materials - stylish and mature designs made from high quality materials that will last far longer than the console itself!

My advice is to do your research on all accessories and that you get what you pay for. Don’t solely look for the cheapest accessories you can find, as that could lead to damage of different sorts or just a simple waste of money.

If anyone has the PS4 Gold wireless headset, those work automatically with Switch. Just plug the USB dongle in and you're set.

I’ve bought two WaterField cases for the Switch (gave one to a friend and kept the other) and one for the Vita. They are the best cases I’ve ever used. I’ll never buy another brand’s case as long as WaterField keeps making them.

The gulikit is an objectively better Bluetooth headphone adapter for the switch, and it is much smaller. And there are multiple cases showing that the covert dock is not safe

4 upvotes on reddit
[deleted] · 5 years ago

I don’t have a Gulikit because the Genki was created and shipped first. Looks small indeed though, might have to check that out sometime.

Please link to the covert dock not being safe. I’ve used it plenty and know others have as well and it’s perfect. They documented what was causing other docks to not be safe to try to make sure their product did not have that same problem. I’d be shocked to see some examples where this is not true.

Emphatically this. It's expensive, but once you have one you never want to play any other way. I even prefer handheld mode with the pro controller.

44 upvotes on reddit
huismaker · 5 years ago

The cheaper solution is the 8bitdo sn30 pro+. It's a great controller and quite frankly the d-pad is way better. But it's missing the quality of life features like waking up the switch, HD rumble( it has regular rumble), amiibo. But you can also play on pc, it has analog triggers and really customizable software. So it really depends on what you're using it for.

Handheld would be impossible for me, due to the size of my hands, if it weren't for them. Just wish they had thought of a scratchless model earlier.

1 upvotes on reddit
In_Search_Of123 · 5 years ago

Yeah, that's one thing that kinda sucks about it, although I consider it a net positive since it's still a lot better than the flimsy one on the Switch.

The analog stick pads they include are also a minor tradeoff, where I like the extra grip given to me on the sticks, but the left one makes it harder to press the - button (thankfully this isn't used often in much).

I'd put screen protector first, because you're just as likely to drop or scratch it at home before you ever put it in a case to travel with.

Case is #1 for me, my switch didn't have a screen protector for most of its life but was carried in a case since day 1. That said, I have a case and screen protector waiting for my switch 2, and my switch was used when I got it.

I got a carrying case from a brand called transnovo that also included some extra stuff including a screen protector and a plastic frame to make the application easier.

Also if you can get the official pro controller or if you can't afford it get the charging joycon grip that gives you two extra back buttons or even the 8bit do ultimate 2c (look at the button layout because they also make the same controller just for pc and mobile)

What accessories are you getting for your Nintendo Switch 2?

Posted by Fcking_Chuck · in r/NintendoSwitch2 · 4 months ago

I bought the Nintendo Switch 2 carrying case, along with a Zagg XTR4 tempered-glass screen protector. I would have bought an OtterBox screen protector if one was available, since I really like the one I got for my Samsung S25 Ultra phone, but I thought that the Zagg screen-protector would still be a step up from the plastic film screen-protector from Nintendo.

Of all the first and third party accessories, which are you going to be getting?

For me it is only the GameCube Controller.

I already have the Pro Controller and a 2nd Switch the Mario Kart Bundle on Best Buy.

Though I can get the Pro Controller on June 5th, the console I got in Update that I would be able to Pick-Up June 6th which made me go to GameStop that morning and get another Switch 2 Regular this time.

There are other things that I could not Buy or Pre-Order that I do want and will be getting 100% Day 1 if in Stock and those are Bravely Default Pre-Order issues with GameStop hope it is In-Stock since I really want it. The other thing I will be getting too is the 1TB Micro SD Express these 2 things are a 100% Getting Day 1 or ASAA (As Soon As Available).

These things are things I want to get. I am leaning towards getting them about 75-80%. They are All the Amiibos, Cyberpunk 2077 and The Legend of Zelda Tears of the Kingdom. I would love to add them to my Collection Day 1. I already have them on the Switch Physically, but getting them again since they wont go on sale anytime soon would be nice. If not I will get them before the Year Ends.

The only thing I already have is the Tempered Glass Screen Protectors and they are Amazingly Big. I personally went with Ivolver since they have always been great to me on my Multiple Switch Consoles, Steam Deck and ROG ALLY Z1 Extreme. So, I thought I would stay with them since they have been amazing.

This month I will also be getting Raidou from Atlus when it comes out and maybe more games that are just as good have not looked to much into it since I already have a lot.

This time I just got those since I trust them, in the past I would get about 3-5 Brands and would spend about 40-50 Dollars.

Lastly, this is so far what I have paid off. I will be getting more stuff if available by Launch.

I Personally feel like I will have all Eyes on me since it's a lot.

Only thing I do not have Paid-Off is Donkey Kong Bananza since it comes out in Mid-July I will pay it off in Early July late June which ever comes first when I visit GameStop.

Ok, here is the Receipt:

Not necessarily must have accessories, but a decent list of items to take a look at:

Satisfye grip
Pro Controller
JETech Screen Protector
GameCube Controller
GameCube Controller Adapter
MoKo Grips (Cheap way to get some decent hand relief)
Ethernet adapter (Try 5Ghz wifi network speed test first)
Pro charger (Can be daisy chained w/ JoyCon charger below)
Joycon Charger (Can be daisy chained w/ Pro charger above)
Nintendo Joy-Con Wheel (For Mario Kart, but not that great tbh)
Joy-Con AA Battery Pack (Mainly for a good grip in single joy con mode)
USB-C to USB adapter (May be good for certain USB devices you would like to use in portable mode)
[8Bitdo SN30] (https://www.amazon.com/8Bitdo-SN30-Retro-Set-Black-nintendo/dp/B075WRBK7Y) (Great for Retro games. If you want to use it with other games, I'd recommend the SN30 Pro as it has analog sticks/triggers for only $5 more)
8Bitdo Bluetooth Adapter (Can get PS4, Xbox, PS3, Wii Mote controllers working with this adapter on switch and on PC both. 1 controller per adapter. Rumble and motion supported.)

Pro Controller is a must

2 upvotes on reddit
[deleted] · 6 years ago

I recommend the Joy Con Grip and Charge over the default Joy Con Grip.

The pro controller is the best, but an SN30 Pro from 8bitdo is great for platformers and classic/retro games. The extra shoulder buttons and analog sticks aren't bad, and for $40-$50 it's a great substitute for the Pro controller.

As for screen protectors, I see plenty of switch cases and skins that include screen protectors. So if you're adding skins and getting a case, you're very likely to get a screen protector. I have mine from my Zelda case (blue and gray one) and it's still going strong after a year and a third. Highly recommend it.

I'd recommend a hard case (you don't want that thing just knocking around in a bag). Most importantly, I really recommend the pro controller. Not only is it legit, but I find the controller you get from sticking the Joy-Cons on the plastic thing that comes with the console supremely unwieldy for most games.

Saw dock’s scratching the screen ? still a case ?

3 upvotes on reddit
LeVarBurtonWasAMaybe · 7 years ago

You can get a dock sock (basically a piece of fabric around the dock where the screen would go) or you could get a screen protector. I did both but I'd recommend the latter if I had to choose. I haven't had a scratch but apparently it's pretty easy. The screen isn't the same as a phone screen, it's the opposite; resistant to cracking from falls but prone to scratches.

the pro controller is the only controller I've ever owned where when I flick the right thumbstick, my thumb presses up against the button next to it and I trigger something not meant to be triggered. I know I'm in the minority on this. but I Hate the Pro controller. I'm happiest with two Joycons separated. (especially of the game uses motion controls)

This might be unpopular, but I only recently got a pro controller for Splatoon; otherwise I don’t use it at all. It’s an amazing controller and feels really nice to play with, but if you’re a mostly handheld person it’s not totally necessary. I’d go for a case first!

Definitely get some sort of a case, but you should 100% make every attempt to never drop your switch—even when it's inside a stupidly sturdy case. Any drop can harm the clip inside the joycons, breaking the mechanism that keeps the joycon attatched and in place. You'll either have to send it in to Nintendo to get it fixed (not a terribly complex or horrible process, but it does take a few days) or get a kit from Amazon/Ebay that allows you to replace your broken bit with metal clips (which do not break). Key Accessories and Peripherals for Nintendo Switch

  1. Protective Case: A sturdy carrying case protects your Switch during travel. Look for one with compartments for games and accessories.

  2. Screen Protector: A tempered glass screen protector can prevent scratches and cracks on your Switch's screen, keeping it in good condition.

  3. Extra Joy-Con Controllers: Having additional Joy-Con controllers allows for multiplayer gaming and enhances your gaming experience.

  4. Pro Controller: The Nintendo Switch Pro Controller offers a more traditional gaming experience with better ergonomics and battery life compared to Joy-Cons.

  5. Charging Dock: A charging dock or stand can keep your Switch charged while playing in tabletop mode and provides a convenient way to display it.

  6. MicroSD Card: Expand your storage with a high-capacity microSD card (at least 64GB recommended) to store more games and downloadable content.

  7. Headset: A good gaming headset with a microphone enhances the multiplayer experience, especially for online games.

  8. Carrying Pouch: A smaller pouch for carrying games and accessories can be handy for on-the-go gaming.

Recommendation: If you're looking for a comprehensive accessory package, consider the Hori Split Pad Pro for a more comfortable handheld experience, or the Anker PowerCore 20100mAh Portable Charger for extended playtime on the go. Both enhance usability and convenience, making your gaming sessions more enjoyable.
