TL;DR
Nintendo Switch Release Details
The Nintendo Switch was officially launched on March 3, 2017. This hybrid console, which can be used both as a handheld device and connected to a TV, marked a significant shift in Nintendo's approach to gaming hardware. Its versatility and innovative design were key selling points that contributed to its widespread popularity [5].
Pricing Information
At launch, the Nintendo Switch was priced at $299.99 USD. This price point positioned it competitively against other gaming consoles available at the time, such as the PlayStation 4 and Xbox One. The pricing strategy aimed to balance affordability with the unique features offered by the Switch, such as its detachable Joy-Con controllers and dockable system [5].
Upcoming Releases and Accessories
Discussions around the Nintendo Switch 2 suggest that new accessories, like the Virtual Boy accessory, are being planned for future releases. These accessories are priced at $100 for the plastic shell and $25 for the cardboard option, indicating a continued focus on expanding the functionality and gaming experience of the Switch platform [1]. Additionally, games like LEGO Voyagers are set to release on both the current Nintendo Switch and the upcoming Nintendo Switch 2, showcasing ongoing support for the original console while paving the way for new iterations
[5].
Market Trends and Consumer Reactions
Consumer reactions to pricing and product announcements have been mixed. Some users express concerns about the high cost of accessories and subscription services, suggesting that these may impact the appeal of certain offerings [1:2],
[3:4]. However, there remains excitement for new game releases and updates, particularly from publishers known for quality titles, such as Annapurna Interactive
[5:1].
Overall, the Nintendo Switch continues to be a popular choice among gamers, with its initial release date and pricing setting the stage for its success in the market. As Nintendo prepares for future developments, including the Switch 2, consumers are eager to see how the company will innovate and expand its gaming ecosystem.
Nintendo has announced that the upcoming Virtual Boy accessory for Switch and Switch 2 will be priced at $100 for the plastic shell or $25 for the cardboard option.
'Enter the realm of stereoscopic 3D with this Virtual Boy dedicated accessory for Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2. Play classic Virtual Boy games like Teleroboxer, Galactic Pinball, and more with one of these add-on accessories. Simply insert your Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2 system (each sold separately) into the accessory and have fun! Additional titles will be added in the future.'
This product can be purchased by those who have a paid Nintendo Switch Online membership. To play games in the Virtual Boy - Nintendo Classics, you will need an active Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack membership. The Nintendo Switch Lite is not supported.
Geez, $100? That's insanely overpriced. And you know it won't go down in price if anything it'll end up increasing in price as time goes on.
Them being absurdly priced is the reason why they didn't mention the prices during the direct. They wanted a controlled positive reaction. Emotional manipulation.
I only want wario land.
It better work without the headset.
Not for me but it’s neat that new players get to experience the curiosity that is the Virtual Boy. I’m opting out of NSO due to the price hike on it though on both Switch one and two. Seems I’d be paying for the increased library that I’d never use on my Switch one.
Locked to NSO makes the whole offer unappealing. I'm sure it will fail, few people will consider it.
$25 for a piece of cardboard…wow I guess I should make some cardboard cutouts then apparently that’s where the real money is at! lol
My bad. Didn't realize lenses were involved
Was expecting it to be 70$ USD (100 CAD for me). Was gonna wait till it went down to 60 or 70 CAD. Seeing it is base price 40 USD (55 CAD) is so amazing. Day one buy for me for sure
Yes. Pleasantly shocked at that also. Time for me to get it as all 3 parts of game will be on switch2
... And here I was, thinking this was a Switch 2 launch game.
Shows what I know.
This game will be available for half this or less in 6 months time after release. Its not a great game and is often on sale for much less.
Can someone tell me how this game works?
As far as I know there are three parts? So this is one part? Or is the whole game 40 bucks?
Three parts as three whole games. This is the first game for $40. Second game is called FFVII Rebirth and the third one is still untitled/not out anywhere.
Don't pretend that we don't all already know part 3's gonna be called "Reunion"
This is 7th in the series. You need to play the previous 6 entries to understand what's going on with FF7
This is part 1. Rebirth is part 2 but you'll have to wait for that to release on Switch 2 much later. Part 3 is in development and we don't know if that's getting a multiplatform release or will be a timed exclusive on PS5 to then release on other platforms later
Oh yea, I have this in my steam library. I should play it.
So, they basically released Virtual Boy without fixing the biggest problems with the system (The bad ergonomics, the eye strain and headaches, the red and black color scheme)? And they missed the opportunity to make a Nintendo branded Occulus type head set?
I guess some of the old timers STILL have it out for Gunpei Yokoi and Virtual Boy. And he's been dead for 28 year!
I already played the entire library on Oculus Quest. If you have a Quest, get Virtual Boy Go on SideQuest.
Citra as well! Quest is perfect for emulating 3DS games in full 3D. I played through 3D Ocarina of Time on there and it was such an amazing experience.
I don't like the idea you are forcing people who are already paying the highest tier of the subscription to buy an additional accessory just to play games. The 3D effect is interesting but not the end all be all for any of these titles, especially given most may play for a bit never touch the majority of them.
You have to have an online expansion pack membership to buy/play the games? ICANT
....virtual boy...really....rolls eyes
I get why fighting games are the default for stuff like this but I still wish it wasn't a fighting game.
I'm mid on Ys and don't know trails at all so it's definitely not my thing, but I would love to play a mid complexity traditional 2D fighter with the casts of RPGs I'm more familiar with. Something halfway between Street fighter 2 and a guilty gear in terms of depth, characters from square enix like final fantasy, mana and chrono series, dragon quest, and then I'm not familiar otoh with who owns the licenses for other series like tales, shining, etc
I'm not saying it's for nobody - like I said, I get why this kind of thing sells. I just wish it was an RPG or something because I'm not into fighting games. I like crossovers like Phoenix Wright vs. Professor Layton where they don't make it a totally different genre. Or at least something like Theatrhythm where the music is iconic so they make a whole game highlighting it.
As a side note, I'm sure you have already, but if you've never played Dissidia that's a pretty fun fighter for Final Fantasy characters
It's annoying because it doesn't have to be. Kingdom Hearts is right there.
This game is old AF (came out during the PSP era originally, contemporary with Ys Seven). Everyone was making these sorts of games at the time, trying to chase Smash Bros success.
I imagine if Falcom was making a crossover game now in 2025 it would not be like this.
Oh boy, imagine an Arc System developed fighter with the modern cast of Trails and Ys combined...so much potential
and the cast would be rediculous
So soon too!
I tried the PSP version in the past.
This is the kind of fighting game where you need to individually level grind each character. And not every character even has a story mode.
It was fun to play just to see the two or three original boss fights, but I personally wouldn't really recommend this game.
Adol vs Rean? Sign me up!
Rean isn't in this game. It was released in 2010, three years before Cold Steel.
It looks like very little beyond getting the PSP version running and swapping the fonts.
The LEGO Group and Annapurna Interactive have announced that the followup to the well-received LEGO Builder's Journey, which is titled LEGO Voyagers, will be getting a Nintendo Switch 2 version, and you haven't got long to wait until you can play it. LEGO Voyagers comes to both Nintendo Switch and Nintendo Switch 2 on 15th September. If you are curious about the game here's all the details:
'From the makers of LEGO Builder's Journey comes a new 2-player co-op adventure about friendship and play. When two friends make it their mission to rescue an abandoned spaceship, they embark on a journey beyond their wildest dreams, ultimately learning the value of being connected.'

Wait wait wait. Annapurna Interactive?? Damn I need to grab this game if it's published by that mob. Everything they put out is amazing.
the switch 1 version is good enough, the switch 2 one is just a joke. 810p 30 fps on an anime cell shaded game is horrible. After the amount of AAA ports we've already seen on the switch 2 and how well they perform, this port probably takes the crown as the worst one.
I feel this game can easily run at least 1080p60 on Switch 2. It's a closed arena with 2 characters.
Tone down on the environment if you have to. Lower some less noticable effects. Use DLSS.
This feels like a "yea we should do something on Switch 2 to get a dev kit, let's just pump DBSZ to it and call it a day"
I much more preferred to get a Kakarot and or XV2 Switch 2 upgrade though. I played SZ on PS5 and while I thought it would be awesome, I was very much disappointed. So definitely not a purchase here.
Ye, it absolutely could and the thing is, all the cutbacks you said, the switch 2 has them already (except the DLSS), the environments look worse and so do the effects.
It feels like all the work went to the switch 1 version, which makes sense and then just pumped the switch 2 one like you said, they didn't give much attention to it.
I also agree with you on the older games' upgrades, while I don't usually consume dragon ball media, seeing that one game always at 3€ euros during sales is tempting lol, a switch 2 version would definitely make me buy it.
Ehhhh I saw this coming. The game had trouble running on PS5 and Xbox X. They initially weren't going to launch it with local multiplayer until global fan backlash. And managed to jam it in by making it so that local multiplayer at the time could only be done in the hyperbolic time chamber (the arena with only one structure and no actual models). and doing all the effect scaling down mentioned. It's a very resource heavy game because of the art direction. The fact this game is on the switch but not the PS4 really shows bandai doesn't actually believe it can run, and is just doing this for a cash grab.
Hell nah it shouldn’t be on switch at all. The developers literally said it’s pushing the ps5 and series x to the absolute limit that you can’t even use maps in co-op
I can only imagine how the switch will be, let alone the switch 1… mk1 anyone?
I waited for the Switch 2 version and now I'm immensely disappointed. If it can run on Switch 1, we should have 60fps on Switch 2.
Unreal Engine 5 is likely the culprit. Borderlands 4 also uses it and it's also 30fps on Switch 2. The engine is very taxing to where Multiversus, when it was rebuilt from Unreal 4 to Unreal 5, ended up becoming less enjoyable and resulted in players leaving in waves until it shut down. It's that bad.
Borderlands makes complete sense though, it's an open world current gen game. And the switch specs are well below the minimum specs on pc even.
And multiversus wasn't really because of the engine swap, the Devs just made a lot of bad gameplay decisions and the players were tired of it, especially with all the grinding to get characters.
But you're right, SZ being on Unreal 5 doesn't help at all with the porting process, it's just a shame. Even during it's launch, the devs didn't enable split screen on different maps because of the performance... Like, a PS5 couldn't handle that game rendering twice? It's stupid.
This is probably the worst port on the S2
There is a reason Bandai Namco's slander name is "Scamco".
This game runs on fucking windows emulators on phones it's not taxing, what an awful lazy shitty port, I'm guessing it's a 5 man team of not super experienced devs who only had a few weeks to learn the new system before porting.
It's kind of insane going from something like Cyberpunk which I think is impressive enough to this.
Hello! I've got a question I can't find the answer to online.
My GF's brother owns a Switch and already has the Nintendo Switch Online + Expansion Pack. My GF and I want to buy the Nintendo Switch Online Family Plan without the Expansion Pack, and want to tell my brother in law if he would be interested in switching plans so it's cheaper for all of us (renouncing to his Expansion Pack in case it's okay for him). I'm trying to find information about this upgrade in the Nintendo website and I found this information. It tells about every possible change you can make in your Online plan EXCEPT for my case. Is it not possible to make? Has someone been in this case?
Thanks in advance!
You can't downgrade to my knowledge but there's nothing stopping you just adding him when his sub runs out (if he wants to)
Most are visual novels or Eroge ports from pc to switch all ages.
Not that many games since 2017, but nice to see some keycard games!
Why two doki dokis?
Japanese and English I thought the Japanese came with bookmarks but it was in the later batches that had shipped out from Amazon Japan and it doesn’t come with the bookmarks when I opened the box so I bought two copies by mistake and it’s the Japanese text on the inside is neat so I kept it.
Well... It IS a collection...
You like what you like. We have WILDLY different taste in games from the looks of it. 😛
Thank you for posting covers facing up. I can't stand looking at Switch spines, it's hard to make out the words of the game unless you zoom in. Not only that, I like seeing the cover art for the games. I'm making a Switch collection pictures soon and doing it like this, covers up. BTW, nice collection!
This game is great, I have it on steam, but I'm a sucker for physical games. I want a physical copy of all my favourite games, typically across Nintendo Switch or across the Xbox generations.
I'd love to have a physical copy of Cruelty Squad.
The switch 2 has the ability to use a joycon as a mouse by turning it sideways
cruelty squad with controller is as painfull as it looks
I finished trauma loop with an Xbox controller...AMA
how many suicide notes did you write during that process?
Switch 2 has mouse joycons
honestly probably wouldn't be that bad. and joycon motion aiming ain't bad either.
Ville will make you reload with the touchscreen for such a suggestion.
Dragon Ball Z Kakarot + some DLC is going for £2.23 for those interested so there's that
Mortal Kombat 11 is down to £3.49 from £34.99 for anyone interested.
EPIC
Nnothing of value there...
US already has a sale going on at the moment. It’s the “blockbuster” sale that started last week
