TL;DR Uber Comfort offers a more premium experience with newer, cleaner cars and more legroom, often at a slightly higher cost than Uber X. However, pricing can sometimes fluctuate due to factors like surge pricing or driver availability.
Vehicle Quality and Features
Uber Comfort is designed to provide a more premium ride experience compared to Uber X. The vehicles used for Comfort rides are typically newer, cleaner, and offer more legroom [1:4],
[4:3]. While both services use similar types of cars, Comfort vehicles must meet additional criteria, such as having more legroom and being relatively new
[1:9].
Pricing Differences
While Uber Comfort generally costs more than Uber X, the price difference can vary depending on the market and specific circumstances. Some users have reported instances where Comfort was actually cheaper than Uber X due to factors like surge pricing or driver availability [3:1],
[5:1]. Typically, Comfort rides are priced about 20% higher than Uber X
[4:4].
Driver and Passenger Experience
Comfort drivers are expected to offer a higher level of service, including accommodating passenger preferences for temperature and conversation [4:1]. This can lead to a more pleasant and personalized ride experience. However, some users note that the quality of service can still vary widely based on the individual driver
[1:2],
[1:5].
Earnings for Drivers
For drivers, Uber Comfort can be more lucrative on longer trips, as these rides tend to pay significantly more than shorter ones [2:1]. However, the earnings difference between Comfort and X may not always be substantial, particularly on short rides
[2:6]. Additionally, drivers with vehicles that qualify for both services might prefer Comfort for its potential to attract better-paying passengers
[4:2].
Market Variability
The differences between Uber Comfort and Uber X can vary significantly by market. In some areas, there may be little distinction in terms of vehicle quality or service level [1:3]. Moreover, the availability of Comfort rides can depend on local demand and the number of eligible drivers
[5:1].
Comfort is well worth it. Sometimes it’s only a dollar or two more, but the cars are newer, cleaner, and the drivers arrive faster. Today I happen to take UberX for the first time in a while and noticed the difference. The drivers are for both are friendly and everything, so it’s not that at all. UberX now feels more like a taxi, while Uber Comfort feels more like a car service.
Comfort doesn’t have a fraction what uber X was when I first started using it frequently in 2018. Comfort drivers where I am are only a fraction less grumpy and unfriendly than X and the cars are only a bit better.
I guess it really depends on the area. I’ve been noticing Comfort has been nicer, cleaner, and faster especially compared to how UberX feels now. The comfort driver also always ask me about the temperature and is never on their phone with my comfort ride. Almost never am I ask me about temperature with X and sometimes on their phone talking.
Then you are lucky. X is bad but comfort isn’t great. I have had drivers blast music, speed, be rude and impatient etc. And I had to set my temperature preferences because many drivers closed their windows with no AC on a hot day.
I really don’t like comfort much but then again I am an an uber assist passenger and the difference between assist and comfort is night and day.
This varies by market.
I'm in the Phoenix suburbs and most UberX drivers are also Comfort drivers.
The other day my UberX ride was a BMW 🤷♂️
Oh for sure… I’ve had some great Uber X rides. I’m not saying all Uber X rides are crappy. That’s not the case.
You can luck out with a BMW or Mercedes for X but Comfort will always be a premium car.
The cars are not the same. They’re nicer, newer, cleaner with Uber Comfort. The last two Uber X rides I’ve taken within the last two days have had some sort of seat tape and just aren’t as nice. They’re fine but there’s a difference.
The only requirement for uber is they have more leg room
A 2012 can be an Uber comfort car as long as it has legroom. That is the oldest a car can be currently
My old 2016 malibu is still for comfort. My new 2023 is as well
Only in my market am I forced to take these trash x rides that don't pay or I won't be rewarded with Comfort requests. Uber shooting themselves in the face by not allowing me to set my lowest fare as comfort. I used to make more money before this stupid advantage mode change..
I didn’t even realize Uber Advantage Mode was a thing until you just mentioned it and I looked it up. I think it’s great actually. One of my biggest complaints to Uber over the last year or two has been wait times and cancellations. I’m not paying my Uber membership to have to wait forever on a slow night just because drivers don’t want to accept my trip. I’m glad Uber is listening and finding ways to encourage more trips and less cancellations.
I decided to do Uber after 2 yr hiatus and I'm like rides much better than eats. But does everyone have option for pet? I'm near AFB & option for that too, but apparently you gotta go somewhere to get their card & fingerprinted
Yes but the cars are premium. You don't get a Chevy Mailbu for Comfort. I got a Mercedes 320 for my ride.
For people that do uber comfort does it actually pay more?
Very little more sometimes you barely notice the difference
Damn cause I personally use comfort and it's at least 20 percent more to use. I'm also an uberx driver.
Uber comfort is for long rides. You'll get payed very well on 15+ min rides. But if I get an offer that is 9min pickup 7min drop off it's practically the same as X. But the 30min airport run is $10 more easy.
Comfort electric yes, that's close to a dollar per minute. Normal comfort? Not so much, I often get Uber X rides that pay more than comfort.
My market confort minimum $1/mile , Uber X can go on long rides all the way to $0.60/mile
Uber pockets most of it maybe get couple bucks more for comfort depending on length of trip
I thought uberx was cheaper than comfort??
Today I got a comfort because it was like $4 cheaper than uberX!
Is that a thing or what happened there?
It’s happened to me before, also a few times a month I have where Uber black is the same price as Uber X Or a dollar or so more expensive. It’s odd. I thought it was due to my level like a status upgrade?
Whatever the reason, not mad about it! It was a nice treat you know?
I was thinking it was a long pick-up thing. The X was far away and would alter the price.
I've had people order XL because I was cheaper than getting an X (I was significantly closer). During the Master's Tournament here, I had a couple regulars tell me that they ordered an Uber Black because X & XL were surging like crazy, so Black was actually cheaper. It happens sometimes.
Surge pricing.
It doesn't always affect all services equally.
That's interesting! I would think it'd affect it across the board you know?
It’s not a typical thing, but it happens from time to time - particularly if Uber wants to entice passengers to try different levels….like “Ohhh, I got this nice car last time I got a comfort ride, let me try that again”
That makes sense! I was very confused and was just curious.
It's my birthday today and I had a sucky ass birthday so it was nice getting to treat myself since it was cheaper 😂
Anyone know what uber comfort is? It's in my hub with uber x and uber xl
Passengers that want a better quality car go for comfort rides. So, as a driver with a comfort option, you are able to get a better 'quality' of passengers. They don't all want temp. regulation or conversation choice. When I ask my comfort passengers asvto what their 'comfort' is, most don't even know or care.
Newer cars and more legroom. My 2018 Dodge Durango is eligible for comfort. It is actually worth it money wise but I rarely get them. However it is always a treat when I do because the pax who order a premium ride are usually the ones you have no problems with.
There's a few (fairly wealthy) areas that are a little bit out of the way near me, I like driving there, but most of the drivers in my area steer clear due to the distance.
I've been telling the customers there for months that they're going to have a better chance of getting a driver if they're using comfort.
I now get a heap of comfort rides out there.
Yea I looked it up, I guess I'll keep it on to see what it's like. Appreciate it.
Depends on what vehicle you have x or XL
If you have a XL vehicle and comfort then comfort is giving XL vehicle at a 40 percent discount.
If you have X and comfort then it is 20 percent premium on X
I have a XL vehicle and would not do comfort. A. The cost of driving XL is high and B. I hate to give a discount to riders when I am not making much.
Exception to the rule, I need co complete the quest or last ride for consecutive streak to end the day
Hope that helps
Honestly the whole thing makes no sense. The cars they have apprived for comfort are completely random. For example a camry qualifies, but a new sonata or altima wont. An old ass tsx will qualify though.
You get an extra .20 to allow the passenger to dictate the temperature and your vocal cords.
Uber Comfort and X driver here. There isn’t too much difference for me except in the base. My base for comfort rides is $1.14, $0.68/mile, and $0.14/minute compared to when I drive X which is $.68 base, $0.55/mile, $0.10/minute.
I’ve only had a few Comfort pax who include specific requests like “warm/cold temp” or “no radio.” Most are just like driving an X pax.
Screw that... my base for XL is $3.04. I didn't realize comfort was so low. And here I was worrying that my vehicle no longer qualified.
Alright thanks
I just checked a location that is 2 miles away and comfort price is cheaper than Uber X. I guess they must be out of Uber X drivers :)
Uber is a TRASH company. It is all you need to know.
Surge it higher demand on X. Happened to me today too.
I’ve had than happen a few times. Not sure why.
Supply and demand. There are more Comfort drivers available than UberX.
There’s no way that’s possible. Unlike XL, comfort is a subclass of X
Comfort drivers have to have X turned on to get comfort. There’s no separate Comfort queue.
The lowest ratio possible is 1:1 x and comfort
Edit: /u/floppyDX claims that this is not true, but hasn’t provided evidence. It may be market dependent?
tldr: As a percentage of revenue for an hour worked, how much more does an Uber driver make when they have a Comfort car vs an UberX (non-Comfort-capable) car?
My back of the envelope estimate is... 100%??
So, a buddy of mine drove in my same area today at the same time. He has a nice, brand new something -- maybe some type of Accord, Sonata, Optima, something -- importantly, something that qualifies him to drive Comfort passengers/requests, when those requests come in, which I'm guessing is about 20% of the time/requests -- I forgot to ask.
If he drove four hours today and took home $100, and I (non-Comfort car driver; 10 yo, smaller sedan, think Fiesta, Civic, etc.) brought home only $50 -- would that surprise you, or sound about right?
Thanks!
Not right.. On non surge situations Comfort only pays $1-1.5 extra vs X…downside of comfort is the cancellation wait time is 10 mins vs 5 mins on X. Pick your poison…will you wait longer for extra $1?
Hey, is that still the case today (6/17/25) $1-$1.50 more for comfort over X rides, and does Uber still advertise this on their website somewhere for reference? Thnx
It’s almost 2x currently…comfort electric vs X.. UberX rides have constantly decreased and comfort stayed the same. Offers are almost 5:1 X vs comfort electric though. Overall, Uber Black is the only way to make money nowadays…good luck. 🍀
For me comfort scheduled rides and airport- business people- uber x - usually cna- some hourly worker at Taco Bell.. so yeah in my market Comfort is extremely important
The extra cost for an Uber comfort car isn’t worth it. I do Uber Comfort in SF and I get Comfort rides 10% of the time on average and they are rarely rides paying more than $30 so I regret buying a comfort car. Also I get a lot of cancellations for Comfort which surprises me because I drive a Mercedes.
Turn off Uber x in the app and only have on comfort and xl. I’m not in Cali but in my midsized city of Florida, I get rides nonstop for comfort usually while still having riders in the car. Before I had X on and I was just as busy but only 20% comfort rides
Can you turn off Uber X and accept only comfort in all markets?
If you don't turn off UberX and do comfort only Uber will keep sending you crappier rides. Bring a pillow and blanket because you might not be as busy, but you'll still make better money in a busy area due to better tips. Plus if you have a nicer car you'll command more respect.
Every full time driver need to upgrade toto XL and turn off Uber X
i just hit 500 trips so i'm still a baby compared to most of you all. should i ONLY do uber comfort if it's an option?
i feel like the drawback would be getting less rides. i live in NC around the Greensboro area.
would ppl just opt for uber-x rides and ignore comfort because of the cost?
Comfort in my market is more slow than Uber black
I'm planning on trying out only XL and comfort when tourist season starts next month. Ask again then. But right now it's a bit slow even with UberX active. Having even less trips offered only seems like a way to lose income.
The amount of people who order comfort, is low FYI. So you are asking on if it makes sense to take far less trips but those trips maybe pay a small fraction higher?
yea i notice the few times i've put it on only comfort it's def slower requests, and idk if it was just me, my impatience, or where the requests truly lower. funny enough when both are selected i still get requests for comfort
Looks like i phx i dont have that option..
i can only speak for my market, but Uber Comfort falls under UberX and there is no option to turn it ON or OFF.
The only time is when they actually order a Comfort ride. lately I have seen more Comfort ride requests and I am wondering if it has to do with the availability that the riders sees when looking for a ride.
Like a Comfort ride is closer in time so they just choose it. I really dont know unless you start doing a survey like asking "Why did you choose Comfort?"
I’m nearing the first 500 trips making me eligible for Comfort. My question for those that can do comfort rides is...how often do you find that someone requests comfort? Does it make a difference to the average rider that they are willing to pay a premium?
It makes a difference if you are the only one on the road. I run comfort only because the min pay is twice what x pays and even with the fewer rides it makes it worth it $/mile. For the pax it's usually only a few bucks more than x so it's not always about getting a premium service it's about getting a ride.
When I tried running Comfort only, I had to balance higher pay with typically longer pickups (unless at the airport).
Uber has been paying for long pickups on every comfort where it's necessary. I also run another app where my rates are set to an acceptable level so I make more money on fewer rides. I also don't mind the longer pickups so long as they are interstate and not back roads for most of the way, better gas mileage.
What car do you drive with?
2017 Murano though I have been eyeing some full evs that would work for short shifts.
When there’s not big money quests out, I only drive Comfort and Premium. Definitely worth it if the market can support it with those types of requests.
What car do you drive with?
Tesla Model 3
This comparison will help, I’m uber green eligible and I’ve gotten one in six months
If you're in a big enough market you'll do ok with Comfort rides (in the before times). I find the passengers are more relaxed, less bar-crowd, college-crowd types, so that helps.
I also find that many of the passengers are the type of people that might be uncomfortable in a Corolla or Prius, six footers and the like.
Sometimes, though Comfort and UberX are the same price during a surge, so you might get one then, too.
I have taken a few Comfort rides and have to say that it seems like a scam.
My first two rides were in daily nice cars (entry level luxury vehicles like Tesla 3) but never anything like a true luxury vehicle.
My last few rides were in economy cars, such as a Kia Nero. These cars had nothing to distinguish them from a normal Uber: there were noisy vibrating objects, stained upholstered seats, etc. And- the driver did nit set the car to my preferences (quiet, warm) so I had to ask for these adjustments. These rides were in CA.
The idea makes sense but it’s not held to the quality you’re paying for. An extra 20% or so. It does not seem worth it and I doubt I’ll be using Comfort in the future.
Curious to hear what others have experienced.
I just can't fathom why someone would pay more for a "comfort ride" and have the audacity to put preferences instead of just telling the driver what you want. Yuppies man...I swear. Pay for a normal right like the rest of humanity. They're not even likely to tip anyway.
The app specifically asks you if you want warm/cool and convo/a little convo/quiet when you book Uber Comfort. It's literally part of the booking process.
I would be traveling from Philly to NYC with three suitcases and 4 + moving bags. Should I go for Uber XL or Uber Comfort?
Comfort qualifying cars are just extra leg room and I believe drivers have to have a 4.85 or higher rating. Uber doesn’t keep track of what drivers interior car conditions are.
You won’t get a luxury car every time. You want one? Pay for it.
Definitely 💯 if you looking a Lux car order Black car, comfort car p/much same cars running in X.
A Camry is comfort. A Camry is also most commonly used as a taxi.
It's just a taxi at the end of the day bro, adjust your expectations.
Broke people always complaining, wanna go out and can’t afford a $10 ride. Stay the F home.
Sorry- had to visit your mom on short notice
Someone on comfort might tip more, but it’s same bs as uberX. Select was the real deal
I rarely accept comfort rides anymore. Longer pickup for X rates. Maybe $1 more for airport trips. Only pennies more on short trips.
I always except them, reservations more so. Around here they tip fantastic. Unfortunately I can't filter out uberx, so my acceptance rate is usually garbage.
I try to rock comfort only when I can. I'll take every single reservation especially if its comfort and an airport run, the min fare here is like $28 and I'm always tipped like $10 on top of that. I'm also lucky that because my market doesn't have black, lux, premier, etc, I still have x and comfort as separate types.
Comfort is supposed to pay more. And if you drive an EV, you still get the $1/ride incentive.
funny how they simply lower the base pay to compensate for that lol
may as well toss XL in there also.
