Overview of Uber Comfort
Uber Comfort is a service tier offered by Uber that provides riders with newer vehicles and more cabin space, ensuring a more comfortable ride compared to standard UberX services. It includes options for passengers to specify preferences such as temperature control and conversation settings [1:2]
[2:4]. The service is positioned between UberX and Uber Black in terms of pricing and vehicle quality
[3:7].
Vehicle Requirements
Vehicles eligible for Uber Comfort must meet certain criteria, which typically include being newer models with more legroom. However, the specific requirements can be somewhat vague, leading to some confusion among drivers about which cars qualify [5:1]
[5:10]. For example, a Toyota Camry may qualify while a similarly spacious Nissan Altima might not
[3:4].
Pricing and Earnings
For drivers, Uber Comfort offers slightly higher earnings compared to UberX rides. The pay increase varies by market but generally ranges from 20% to 35% more per ride [1:2]
[5:6]. Despite this, some drivers feel the increased fare does not sufficiently compensate for the higher standards expected from Comfort rides
[2:3]
[5:5].
Passenger Experience
Passengers opting for Uber Comfort are often looking for a better quality ride experience, which includes more legroom and potentially quieter or more personalized service [2:1]
[4:2]. Riders choosing Comfort are typically professionals or individuals willing to pay extra for these amenities
[4:2], although some passengers may not fully understand what distinguishes Comfort from other tiers
[1:3].
Market Availability and Demand
The demand for Uber Comfort varies by location, with some areas seeing frequent requests due to wealthier clientele or specific events [3:3]
[3:5]. In some markets, Comfort rides are used as an alternative to UberXL when passengers desire a larger vehicle without needing the capacity for additional passengers
[5:9].
Overall, Uber Comfort aims to provide a more pleasant and customizable ride experience for passengers while offering drivers a modest increase in earnings. However, its success and practicality depend heavily on market conditions and individual driver experiences.
Anyone know what uber comfort is? It's in my hub with uber x and uber xl
You get an extra .20 to allow the passenger to dictate the temperature and your vocal cords.
Uber Comfort and X driver here. There isn’t too much difference for me except in the base. My base for comfort rides is $1.14, $0.68/mile, and $0.14/minute compared to when I drive X which is $.68 base, $0.55/mile, $0.10/minute.
I’ve only had a few Comfort pax who include specific requests like “warm/cold temp” or “no radio.” Most are just like driving an X pax.
Screw that... my base for XL is $3.04. I didn't realize comfort was so low. And here I was worrying that my vehicle no longer qualified.
Alright thanks
Passengers that want a better quality car go for comfort rides. So, as a driver with a comfort option, you are able to get a better 'quality' of passengers. They don't all want temp. regulation or conversation choice. When I ask my comfort passengers asvto what their 'comfort' is, most don't even know or care.
Newer cars and more legroom. My 2018 Dodge Durango is eligible for comfort. It is actually worth it money wise but I rarely get them. However it is always a treat when I do because the pax who order a premium ride are usually the ones you have no problems with.
There's a few (fairly wealthy) areas that are a little bit out of the way near me, I like driving there, but most of the drivers in my area steer clear due to the distance.
I've been telling the customers there for months that they're going to have a better chance of getting a driver if they're using comfort.
I now get a heap of comfort rides out there.
Yea I looked it up, I guess I'll keep it on to see what it's like. Appreciate it.
Honestly the whole thing makes no sense. The cars they have apprived for comfort are completely random. For example a camry qualifies, but a new sonata or altima wont. An old ass tsx will qualify though.
Depends on what vehicle you have x or XL
If you have a XL vehicle and comfort then comfort is giving XL vehicle at a 40 percent discount.
If you have X and comfort then it is 20 percent premium on X
I have a XL vehicle and would not do comfort. A. The cost of driving XL is high and B. I hate to give a discount to riders when I am not making much.
Exception to the rule, I need co complete the quest or last ride for consecutive streak to end the day
Hope that helps
Uber recently came out with a comfort option, it’s for bigger cars that aren’t XL. It guarantees extra legroom and gives them options like temp preferences, whether or not they like to talk, etc...the driver gets more money too. What does everyone think? I kinda like it. Also, what does everyone think of the new Uber tiers? I love being platinum and being able to see how long a ride will be before I accept it. Thoughts?
I used to really like it until they cut the rates for it drastically. It's only 6 cents more per mile. I used to go out of my way for comfort pings, not anymore.
Yeah. I noticed that uber is taking a larger slice of the money from comfort rides. Rates are 50% higher than X and the drivers get like 6-7% more
I like comfort. Gives me more money for the same car and nicer people in general.
Is this a fucking commercial for Uber? If you think there is some huge difference between a Corolla and a Camry you might be interested in these spacious coach seats conveniently located near the bathroom.
Corolla and Camry are both sedans, a rogue is an suv, there is a difference between an suv and a sedan.
Yeah cause SUVs are known for being such comfortable rides....especially if your luggage. You check out the comfort list? You see all SUVs in there?
There are “comfort” sedans
As someone who is well over 6' tall, I assure you that there's a difference between a Carolla and a Camry.
Despite the exterior dimensions the interior dimensions are almost identical. A 2019 Camry headroom is the same as the Corolla at 38.3. The legroom for Corolla is actually better at 42.3 vs 42.1. Headroom in the rear is 37 vs 38. So we have a 1 inch difference.
I doubt if you took both rides you would say it's worth paying 50% to 70% more. They aren't buying the car or spending any considerable time in it and thus might as well take the $10 and eat lunch with it. Sure everyone wants a nice car to show up but they are not about to pay for it.
The whole needing to pay extra for quite and temperature is insane. Your telling me passenger cant ask for those things?
It's very passive aggressive
Ridiculous
I like doing the Comfort rides. More long rides, business people and couples going out for a nice dinner.
Does anyone do Uber Comfort? If so, do you get many "comfort" ride requests?
What on earth is it? And what sort of comfort do you provide? 🤔
It is newer cars with more cabin space. Comfort means they are not going to get a Prius or other sub compact model car. It is part of the UberX side if your car qualifies.
It's somewhere between Uber X and Uber Black
I get comfort rides pretty often in my market. A lot of times it’s wealthier people who have had shitty drivers in the past and like the fact they can select a preference for the driver to not talk to them. They’re great when you can get them. Better pay, better clientele, better tips.
I was told that if you turn X off in the preferences you’ll only get comfort rides, but I haven’t tested it.
I did and got a few but none were significantly higher payouts than an X ride. I think the list of cars they have for is is messed up. I'd like for them to explain to me how a Toyota Camry qualifies for Comfort, but my Nissan Altima with just as much interior space does not. There weren't many rides for it here, but the ones that I had were generally business types on long trips.
IT is part of the UberX platform IF your vehicle qualifies for it. It just happens and there is no way to really filter out other rides and just do Comfort rides. Unless you decline all other rides and get ready to sign back into the driver app.
>It just happens and there is no way to really filter out other rides and just do Comfort rides.
Ahh!! This is what I wondered about ... I have an XL and I can filter to get XL rides only. I have a car that qualifies for Comfort ... just wondering if it's worth the effort of adding it and driving people around in it. If I can't filter rides to accept comfort only, it's not worth it.
I just know that in my market it isnt something you add or turn on or off. If someone orders a comfort ride and I happen to be the only driver qualified then I will probably get it. I honestly cannot say the % of UberX to Comfort rides I get, but seeing that it cost more per mile people will not order them.
There was a concert at the Tacoma Dome and I noticed many from out of town were ordering Comfort rides. It was also like 48 degrees and most were young ladies NOT dressed for that type of weather. LOL
One ride that night paid a surge of $61 and I was like NICE!!!! LOL
1 in 10
Despite the fact that it pays a little more, I had been declining Comfort requests because I assumed the passengers would be entitled assholes, and would complain about how my car doesn't actually have a lot of extra legroom. This weekend, I started accepting them, and they were all great. I noticed a theme too:
All riders had a "we took an Uber earlier and it reeked of cigarettes / was dirty / driver was weird!" I drive a cheap luxury car (Acura). It's got pleather seats and I keep it fairly clean... These riders all complimented it.
All riders were friendly. The main demographic seems to be older couples.
Every single one tipped. I drove one older couple to a restaurant, and he tipped me $20 cash. Another guy slipped $15 into my cup holder after a ride and didn't even mention it. I noticed it when I got about a block away.
It's quite popular: Around 40% of my trips yesterday were for Comfort.
The funny thing here is that Uber has gotten their user base so accustomed to the idea of their X and Pool drivers being dirty/weird, that normal people are willing to fork out a few extra bucks for "Comfort" which should just be the standard rate/level of service...
Totally agree. The Comfort riders I've carried are almost exclusively career professionals or middle-class couples going out for a nice dinner and drinks. They want adequate service (reliable car, experienced driver, enough room) and are willing to pay for it.
What are the requirements to do uber comfort? My car is pretty spacious for people up to 6 ft 7 and only 3 years old in excellent condition
Age and size of the car. Different in every market. I think it has to be 2017 or newer though.
I'm still pissed my 17 sonata isnt eligible for comfort. Its plenty roomy and I can do uber select...
You also have to have a 4.9 or above rating......at least in my market (NY/NJ)
Google Uber Comfort + your city and you will get a list of eligible vehicles (if the service is available in your city).
Bro how do people pay more for a luxury car and tip still on top but can’t seem to tip on economy rides when drivers have a newer clean car People are messed up in the head
I would love quiet pax, unfortunately it’s not available to me.
It kills select demand
I have a feeling Uber will be rolling this out in an attempt to cull drivers and improve service.
Comfort has more stringent (though still kind of vague, as they don't tell you what "biigger" vehicle means) vehicle requirements, which many drivers will be unable to afford.
At the same time, they make Comfort only slightly more expensive than UberX (ok, 25% is a big difference, but when that actually means $2-$5, it's not much in actual dollars), which decreases demand for UberX.
Non Comfort-eligible drivers get discouraged at the slowdown in business and quit. Drivers in "comfort" cars, which includes many luxury vehicles, are now encouraged to start taking UberX instead of just Select, because that's the only way to get Comfort rides.
Meanwhile, they move Select to the third options screen on rider apps, making it nearly invisible to most riders.
Your feeling is most likely wrong.
You've completely underestimated the cheapness of uber riders. They will continue to cancel on non "comfort" cars until they get comfort, same as XL scenario.
I got only 1 comfort request, ever, out of 1+ month, and it was when comfort first rolled out. Always think of people as being cheap, not "unaware", "unfamiliar", oh they are not dumb, if they can take advantage of you, they will do it in a heart beat, just look at the fact that once Express is introduced there's no more POOL request, they would rather run 3 blocks and get in your car in dangerous traffic to save a few bucks, what are drivers thinking, that just because Express is inconvenience and dangerous that riders will not take it?
When I drive my Comfort-eligible vehicle, I actually get quite a few Comfort requests. Partly that's because I do the airport and I'm betting after being squeezed into a flying toothpaste tube, some passengers are willing to pay a few extra bucks to stretch out instead of being crammed into the back of a Prius C.
25-35% more than a standard UberX. To be honest I’d probably use this. I’m 6’4 and a bit of a big guy, so it annoys me when tiny ass cars show up. It would be worth it to me to be able to request a driver whom has a bigger vehicle like me when I used to drive my Nissan Rogue. I’ve not once got a SUV to pick me up.
Same. It’s similar to upgrading to an emergency row on an airplane for the legroom for an extra $75.
Unfortunately it’s Uber so the driver will be underpaid, Uber will take a higher percentage of the fare, and it will create an even more entitled passenger.
In my market, Comfort pays the driver about 23% more, so there's that.
It basically means you're guaranteed at least a Camry. Not an SUV.
Comfort just means more legroom in the backseat.
On the app, it also says "newer" vehicles. But of course, for us drivers, there's no guidance for what newer or bigger actually means.
I mean, we could assume that a brand-new Suburban qualifies, but beyond the extremes, there's no guidance. I expect if they keep it after the beta test they will publish guidelines.
After you get in, the driver gives you a blanket and a beer. He will then bob the knob and you can use the top of his head as a beer holder. Hope that helps.
Yes, from the driver's perspective, if I could get 25% more all the time, I'd do it. I'm talking from the passenger's perspective, if the choice is $15 for probably a Prius or $18 for something bigger, I might "splurge" for that guarantee.
Translation: uber will make $10 - $20 more.
The driver will see about $1 of that.
I like it. I did 5 rides yesterday after work in 6 hours, made $172. I did it the night before, and did quite well. Uber Comfort people are actually tipping in the app, and quite well. Nice part is that I can be driving towards the airport with a 40 car queue and get a comfort ride quickly. I like napping at the staging area and didnt get to.
While most of the rides were Uber Quiet, all but one of them were actually quiet. lol it's kind of confusing when you start off the ride quiet and they initiate a long conversation.
I want to know how a Toyota Camery qualifies as comfort when my Chevy Trax doesn't. Also, Kia Souls are on the comfort list but again, my SUV isn't. Makes absolutely no sense.
I drive a kia soul and while surprisingly spacious, I wouldn't call it a "comfort" car.
I think it’s a certain leg room for rear passengers, I’d have to make a list of the cars that qualify and don’t to see what the differences are. Or maybe it was holistic and only cars that test markets said they’d pay extra for made the cut and others didn’t. Idk what the interior of a Trax looks like, but Kia’s look as nice or nicer depending on trim level than Infiniti / Lexus
Edit: Yeah no idea, my optima doesn’t qualify but has more headroom, leg room, shoulder room, passenger volume, and cargo room in the trunk than the Camry, has way more standard features, and the Camry qualifies but the Optima does not. Whatever lol.
Yeah, my Trax is quite nice inside and I owned a Kia Soul just prior to buying my Trax, and the Trax does have at least as much legroom as a Soul. Might be a bit more in the Trax but if it is, it's not much more than a Soul. I'm not saying Souls don't belong on the list, more like Trax should be on the list as well. I was quite surprised at the legroom in a Soul when we bought ours.
Havent seen one yet South Jersey. How do you know it's a comfort ride?
Usually anybody who uses anything other than UberX isn’t a trash human being and understands how the system works and treats others with respect.
It’s essentially what UberX was in 2014 before rates were shit.
I didn’t know a Camry qualifies... my Kia Soul qualifies because of the head and leg room, but my Kia Optima doesn’t and it’s in the same size class as a Camry. QQ
How are you getting rides in Philly AND NJ? I thought we were limited to 1 state unless you're referring to drop offs.
2014 Accord eligible?
Big if true.
Here in Boston I’ve been getting them for about two weeks. Slightly more money, people tip better. But they can be more stuck up.
Havent driven in a while. What the hell is uber comfort?
I am trying to find out if there is any significant difference when it comes to pay for driving Uber Comfort? Do you find the demand to be worthwhile or do you find yourself picking up Uber X pax?
Just looking for some feedbacks.
Thanks
In my market at least if your vehicle qualifies for comfort it will send you comfort rides as long as you are signed in under uberX. There is no opt in function to it. They just send me whatever rides are available at the time.
They pay about 15 to 20% more than UberX rides.
Although I haven't done any in awhile because I stopped using my car that qualifies for comfort to drive Uber.
All this, plus, your wait time increases from 7 minutes to 10 mins in order to cancel a comfort rider but you do get a larger cancel fee than uberx.
Plus I’ve experienced longer pickups on comfort so I stopped accepting them
You can disable uberx and only run comfort if you want. I made some decent money during the pandemic when I was likely the only driver on the road some days..
There is/was a glitch that paid me a cancel fee even when I canceled before I arrived. Same as you I traded in that car and my current one doesn't qualify.
It's only in some markets. I drive PA/NY/NJ/DE, and some random spots change my app to have comfort listed as a seperate type to check off from X, but the vast majority of the area only has X toggle with Comfort lumped in.
I use comfort to drive from work to home and vice-versa so I can write off the miles without having to take any actual fares. I think I've declined maybe two, and I've been doing it for the better part of a year.
How does that work? I have a car that qualifies for comfort and I try to pick up a pax or two on my way too and from work. How do you write off the miles without taking a fare?
Technically he is "working", so the miles would not be counted as "commuter" miles to and from his regular place of business.
I've only been doing this about a month, and only part time. With about 150 rides, only two of them have been comfort. Happy surprise when it happens, but I wouldn't make a concerted effort to get a car that qualifies for comfort.
I get a lot of surged comfort rides from the airport. If I really, really want an airport ride, I’ll turn on comfort only and within a few minutes I’ll get one, as there are never any comforts in the queue.
It's about 2% of my fares. Totally immaterial
So, Uber Comfort is supposed to offer newer cars with extra legroom and top-rated drivers . But in reality, you’re often stuck with vehicles like the Toyota Sienna or Chrysler Pacifica. These rides feel like they’re barely holding together, with doors that usually ducked taped. And the seats? Stiff, cheap, and angled so awkwardly you’d think they were designed to be an acute angle.
How is this a thing?
Please someone explain.
I had a 2023 Chevy bolt driving for uber..... guess what?........ uber considered it to be a comfort vehicle...lol. i would actually apologize to passengers who ordered comfort for their group of 4.....lol
I’m sitting in a Bolt comfort right now. It’s not comfortable. Feeling unhappy that Uber says this is “Comfort” and charges me a premium.
Actually it is. The bolt has tons of leg space, especially after the front passenger seat is moved all the way up. I drive a bolt as an Uber driver.
I agree with this post. My latest Uber Comfort was some last-gen GMC Acadia that had rusty door panels, collision damage, and is smoked inside by the driver. It was the worst Uber ride I’ve experienced. I’m not “upgrading” my ride categories any longer. I’m not expecting a Cadillac, but the vehicle didn’t even meet minimum cleanliness and safety standards.
I hope you 1* and reported to Uber. It's the only way to get crappy drivers off.
No they're not. Uber comfort has nothing to do with newer cars. They're just larger cars with more leg room and the ability to set preferences like quiet rides and how people want the temperature set.
Don't let your entitlement get the better of you.
It does have to do with newer cars...there limit for comfort cars is newer than the limit for non comfort. It's kinda dumb but it's how it is. A new Chevy Bolt can qualify while an older rolls Royce wouldn't
There is an age limit and that is about 5.5 years or newer vehicle! Here is a link to the Uber site that proves it!
https://www.uber.com/global/en/eligible-vehicles/?city=san-francisco
So a Chevy Bolt is a larger car with good leg room? No. It is not. I’m sitting in the “Comfort” car now and it’s not comfortable.
I ordered comfort for my party of 3 and got a model 3. That was the most miserable Uber ride I've ever been in. Nothing about the model 3 was intended for comfort.
Pretty sure Uber comfort really only guarantees more leg room. Maybe a new vehicle, but leg room is the main thing.
Yes, they offer more legroom and the vehicle is under five years old. Once your vehicle gets to four years old and six months, it is taken off the platform as a comfort.
Comfort is well worth it. Sometimes it’s only a dollar or two more, but the cars are newer, cleaner, and the drivers arrive faster. Today I happen to take UberX for the first time in a while and noticed the difference. The drivers are for both are friendly and everything, so it’s not that at all. UberX now feels more like a taxi, while Uber Comfort feels more like a car service.
Comfort doesn’t have a fraction what uber X was when I first started using it frequently in 2018. Comfort drivers where I am are only a fraction less grumpy and unfriendly than X and the cars are only a bit better.
I guess it really depends on the area. I’ve been noticing Comfort has been nicer, cleaner, and faster especially compared to how UberX feels now. The comfort driver also always ask me about the temperature and is never on their phone with my comfort ride. Almost never am I ask me about temperature with X and sometimes on their phone talking.
Then you are lucky. X is bad but comfort isn’t great. I have had drivers blast music, speed, be rude and impatient etc. And I had to set my temperature preferences because many drivers closed their windows with no AC on a hot day.
I really don’t like comfort much but then again I am an an uber assist passenger and the difference between assist and comfort is night and day.
Only in my market am I forced to take these trash x rides that don't pay or I won't be rewarded with Comfort requests. Uber shooting themselves in the face by not allowing me to set my lowest fare as comfort. I used to make more money before this stupid advantage mode change..
I didn’t even realize Uber Advantage Mode was a thing until you just mentioned it and I looked it up. I think it’s great actually. One of my biggest complaints to Uber over the last year or two has been wait times and cancellations. I’m not paying my Uber membership to have to wait forever on a slow night just because drivers don’t want to accept my trip. I’m glad Uber is listening and finding ways to encourage more trips and less cancellations.
This varies by market.
I'm in the Phoenix suburbs and most UberX drivers are also Comfort drivers.
The other day my UberX ride was a BMW 🤷♂️
You can luck out with a BMW or Mercedes for X but Comfort will always be a premium car.
Oh for sure… I’ve had some great Uber X rides. I’m not saying all Uber X rides are crappy. That’s not the case.
The cars are not the same. They’re nicer, newer, cleaner with Uber Comfort. The last two Uber X rides I’ve taken within the last two days have had some sort of seat tape and just aren’t as nice. They’re fine but there’s a difference.
The only requirement for uber is they have more leg room
A 2012 can be an Uber comfort car as long as it has legroom. That is the oldest a car can be currently
My old 2016 malibu is still for comfort. My new 2023 is as well
Yes but the cars are premium. You don't get a Chevy Mailbu for Comfort. I got a Mercedes 320 for my ride.
I decided to do Uber after 2 yr hiatus and I'm like rides much better than eats. But does everyone have option for pet? I'm near AFB & option for that too, but apparently you gotta go somewhere to get their card & fingerprinted
As of Tuesday, Uber has decided my car qualifies to be Uber Comfort. It's probably not a mistake, I've got a 2017 Subaru Outback, and it is comfortable in the back, but this is the first time I've received Comfort rides. Have they changed the cars that qualify or did I cross some invisible barrier? Anyone else experience this?
The list says my car qualifies for comfort but the app settings don't give me an option to turn them on/off.
I do get comfort pings though.
In most markets comfort is just mixed in with Uber x
Exactly
2016+ outback is listed as comfort in my market. Maybe you’re experience or rating went up?
Same here is Dallas…2016 Ford Edge…and no option to turn on or off
Enjoy that $0.35 boost!
As a comfort driver, 99% of rides are uberx anyways. Order uberx and still get comfort
What is Uber Comfort
Uber Comfort Overview:
Uber Comfort is a ride option offered by Uber that provides a more premium experience compared to standard UberX rides. Here are the key features:
More Space: Comfort vehicles are typically larger, providing extra legroom for passengers, making it a great choice for longer rides.
Vehicle Requirements: Comfort rides are provided by newer vehicles (usually 2016 or newer) that meet specific quality standards. The vehicles must also have a minimum rating from drivers.
Driver Preferences: Passengers can request driver preferences, such as temperature settings and conversation levels, allowing for a more personalized experience.
Pricing: Uber Comfort fares are generally higher than UberX but lower than UberXL or Uber Black, making it a mid-tier option for those seeking comfort without the luxury price tag.
Availability: Comfort rides may not be available in all areas, so it's important to check your local Uber app for availability.
Recommendation: If you're looking for a more comfortable ride without the premium cost of luxury services, Uber Comfort is an excellent choice, especially for longer trips or when traveling with multiple passengers.
