TL;DR To qualify for Uber Comfort, your vehicle typically needs to be newer (usually less than 5-6 years old), have more cabin space, and meet certain model specifications. The requirements can vary by market and are subject to change annually.
Vehicle Age and Model Requirements
The eligibility for Uber Comfort often hinges on the age and model of your vehicle. Generally, cars need to be less than 5-6 years old [3:4]
[5:2]. However, Uber can update these requirements without warning, sometimes excluding vehicles that were previously eligible
[5:3]. For example, a 2019 Ford Fusion was excluded in favor of the 2020 model despite no significant changes between the two
[4].
Cabin Space and Comfort Features
Uber Comfort is designed to offer riders more spacious and comfortable rides compared to standard UberX options. This means vehicles with larger cabins are preferred, and smaller models like the Prius may not qualify [2:1]. Some drivers noted discrepancies in the qualification list, such as a Toyota Camry qualifying while a similarly sized Nissan Altima does not
[2:2].
Market-Specific Variations
The requirements for Uber Comfort can vary significantly depending on the market. In some areas, hybrid cars might be classified as Comfort, while in others they are not [4:5]. Additionally, different markets may have varying lists of eligible vehicles
[5:3].
Driver Experience and Preferences
Drivers have mixed experiences with Uber Comfort. Some report receiving Comfort ride requests occasionally, but these rides do not always result in significantly higher payouts compared to UberX [2:2]
[3:6]. While some drivers appreciate the better clientele and tips associated with Comfort rides, others find the financial benefits minimal
[2:6]
[4:7].
Overall, if you're considering driving for Uber Comfort, ensure your vehicle meets the latest requirements and understand that these criteria can change frequently. It's also wise to weigh the potential benefits against the costs involved in maintaining a qualifying vehicle.
On Uber’s site it says 100+ rides, better than 4.85 rating and 70% AR. I have all of those met and drive a 2019 Audi A6. Am I missing something? Only UberX and UberPet show up in my preferences for ride choices. I don’t deliver food.
Edit: I got my first comfort ride yesterday. Still no comfort option in my dashboard so that must not be a thing. I asked the Pax why they selected comfort and they said because I was closest to them. Now, I’m wondering if riders see me as comfort and x. All 6 rides after the comfort ride were x.
I have a 24% acceptance rate currently and still get comfort rides in the Tesla rental
Comfort rides fall under the UberX in my market. I see them occasionally, but of course they are more money for the passenger so they do not request them as much.
We still have per mile per minute and why order a comfort ride for $1.02 per mile when you can get one for .83 per mile. Unless you really dont want a prius or smaller vehicle then UberX is the cheapest.
I have a 2019 Honda Accord Hybrid that is also Comfort. So everyone gets a Comfort ride with me. LOL
Thanks. This is helpful.
You are missing the fact that you should not be doing X or Comfort rides in that fine vehicle. What in the hell are you thinking? Do you hate money? Need a junker for this job to make anything. That is unless you don't use this car otherwise and just need a few miles for depreciation. Then I'd say nice work.
I’m just doing this for fun and to get some human interaction. Yes, the car is nice and my riders seem to enjoy the ride. I only drive a few hours a day.
lol doing it for fun. Go get a girlfriend if you need some fun. And if your there for interactions then you most likely get your account deactivated soon. People want you to the STFU and drive. You talk to much and ask to many questions they will report you.
Thanks. That’s my next step. I just thought that this route might give me some insight in case I was missing something. I assumed it would be automatically added as an option when I hit 100 rides.
One of my 2 vehicles is eligible for comfort. I also do not see the option in preferences. But I do get the occasional comfort trip request.
Does anyone do Uber Comfort? If so, do you get many "comfort" ride requests?
I did and got a few but none were significantly higher payouts than an X ride. I think the list of cars they have for is is messed up. I'd like for them to explain to me how a Toyota Camry qualifies for Comfort, but my Nissan Altima with just as much interior space does not. There weren't many rides for it here, but the ones that I had were generally business types on long trips.
IT is part of the UberX platform IF your vehicle qualifies for it. It just happens and there is no way to really filter out other rides and just do Comfort rides. Unless you decline all other rides and get ready to sign back into the driver app.
>It just happens and there is no way to really filter out other rides and just do Comfort rides.
Ahh!! This is what I wondered about ... I have an XL and I can filter to get XL rides only. I have a car that qualifies for Comfort ... just wondering if it's worth the effort of adding it and driving people around in it. If I can't filter rides to accept comfort only, it's not worth it.
I just know that in my market it isnt something you add or turn on or off. If someone orders a comfort ride and I happen to be the only driver qualified then I will probably get it. I honestly cannot say the % of UberX to Comfort rides I get, but seeing that it cost more per mile people will not order them.
There was a concert at the Tacoma Dome and I noticed many from out of town were ordering Comfort rides. It was also like 48 degrees and most were young ladies NOT dressed for that type of weather. LOL
One ride that night paid a surge of $61 and I was like NICE!!!! LOL
I get comfort rides pretty often in my market. A lot of times it’s wealthier people who have had shitty drivers in the past and like the fact they can select a preference for the driver to not talk to them. They’re great when you can get them. Better pay, better clientele, better tips.
I was told that if you turn X off in the preferences you’ll only get comfort rides, but I haven’t tested it.
What on earth is it? And what sort of comfort do you provide? 🤔
It's somewhere between Uber X and Uber Black
It is newer cars with more cabin space. Comfort means they are not going to get a Prius or other sub compact model car. It is part of the UberX side if your car qualifies.

I don’t have an option for giving comfort trips. I’m not sure if there just isn’t an option for that or if I need to argue with uber about it. If anyone knows, I’d definitely prefer the simple answer haha. As far as my app stats and car goes, I’ve got 472 trips, rating is 4.98, and I drive a 2017 Lexus NX200t. Thanks!
As of January 15th 2025, 2017 vehicle's do not qualify for comfort
Your car may be too old to qualify
Usually Comfort can’t be more than 5-6 years old.
Look back at about a week ago in this sub, apparently they changed something and alot of people's cars don't qualify anymore.
I’ll scan through then. That’s annoying, even though I didn’t know it existed lol.
They don't pay much better don't worry
Just got an email from Uber showing their eligible cars for Comfort in 2022 and noticed my car is not included in the new year but the model is still there.
I drive a 2019 Ford Fusion but only the 2020 Fusion is eligible for Uber Comfort yet both years are the same model/generation...
The people making these decisions are geniuses I swear. 🙃
Correct me if I’m wrong, but only cars that are <2 years are eligible for Comfort.
I'm seeing cars that are even 6 years old on their eligibility list. I'm in Canada so this is the list for Comfort cars in Canada...
I'm sure a lot of market research (via AI and statistics) goes into these Uber decisions. For instance, in San Francisco Uber may be able to classify any Hybrid as "comfort" but in say Bangor, Maine, no one would consider any hybrid car comfortable. BTW, I was born in Bangor, so shout out to my peeps and lobsters.
No my car qualifies 2016
Nope. My Versa Note is 7 and I get Comfort rides all day.
Comfort may be the biggest scam that Uber gets away with continually.
Well since Uber POOL died. LOL
Literally took a Uber two weeks ago. X - $17 XL- 14 and Comdort was- $11. Literally was picked up by a Blacked out Denali
It doesn't really matter - you're not missing anything. Uber takes a very large portion of the Comfort fare anyway. The driver gets a $0.03 uptick in mileage and $0.05 uptick in time. A 10 mile drive taking 20 minutes gets you $1.30 extra. Dumbass Dara Dogg charges the customer anywhere between $8 and $11 premium for this type of ride (non-surge). Going from Uberx to Comfort doesn't cost any additional fees .. maybe only a very tiny (measured in pennies) cost increase for an insurance adjustment. Uber is fucking all Comfort drivers - Dara Dogg is a piece of dogshit. If you ask Uber to explain the violation of Comfort drivers, they do not respond.
I'm not surprised, Uber is always playing games with their drivers in one way or another.
I'm just upset at the fact that 1 year older is making such a big difference when the car had no significant changes.
I'm glad I wasn't qualified for comfort because you have to wait for customer up to 8 mins and more often than not Pax will have you wait.
Uber will make you drive 10 minutes east out of your way because you're the only Comfort car in the area and the passenger is only going 7 minutes west, basically down the road from where you just came from to pick up the passenger. 🤦♂️
Y'all, I am truly stunned to get the message that my 2019 car is now no longer eligible for Comfort on January 15th, 2026. Did others get this message too? They're dropping fares like crazy but some of the only rides in my market that were remotely monetarily feasible to take were the Comfort rides.
Now, for literally no reason, they're taking those away from me? Like what the hell is going on? I am 4.99 driver, provide great service to my passengers, have below a 5% cancellation rate.
Is there some bigger reason for this? I feel like this will greatly cut down on Comfort drivers and there won't be enough in my market to fit demand. I'm so aggravated.
Vehicle age requirements roll over every year. 6 years or newer for Comfort has been standard on most vehicles for a long time.
Uber will pull any year, make or model they chose off the list without warning. They destroyed me financially and I lost 30% of my income on a 2024 that was previously listed as Comfort. They even have different cars listed in different markets. They are scumbag, faceless fascists.
Your biggest mistake was relying on uber as a steady income job. You should have. W-2 job and use uber to supplement that income
It’s not my main source of income but 30% from comfort is significant.
I love it when drivers say I'm a 4. 99 Driver Diamond Bla Bla Bla.......... UBER Does Not Give A Fuck
I'm saying it because I doubt they're trying to get rid of drivers like me. I'm sure if you're a 4.75 driver, they don't care if they force you out. They should be trying to maintain the drivers who actually are providing good service.
I don't understand, if the other commenter is correct in that 2023 cars aren't eligible either, who they think is going to be driving Comfort?
What are you talking about? The only drivers they want are those that are willing to work at their own expense. They don't need to pretend to sell quality when they monopolize the market.
What they care about depends solely on the supply of drivers which right now is at an all time high
I’m sure in a vacuum they would prefer you over a driver with a lower rating but their primary concern is profit
What are people going to do if their drivers aren’t good enough, take public transit lol. Try Lyft and find their drivers are even more shoddy because they don’t do pic ID?
It’s by model year. Doesn’t matter when you bought it. Uber does this change every January.
I guess it's better than Share. Almost every problem ride I have is with Share and I feel like I'm almost never tipped on Share rides.
Never!! Only when I do the original and first passenger a favor and block the app from dropping more people into the ride. I've had a couple of them appreciate that, but even then...not many.
My tactic is to type agent two times in a row and then it lets you call.
I crossed 100 rides tonight, am above the rating spec., and my car is on the list in my market. Will it just pop up now, or do I have to call support?
Depends on the market. Washington state it falls uber the UberX and there is no specific Comfort selection in the drivers preference area.
This is definitely market dependent. I'm lucky that I have x and comfort separate. Helps me make more money with less stress. I turn off x when on a ride or I'm tired of the avalanche of bullshit offers from radar. Turning off x also let's me simultaneously scoop up surges and then when a comfort comes in I make even more. Comfort regularly pays me well over $2/mile and the tip rate is exponentially higher than x.
Yeh we also DONT have upfront and still have per mile per minute. We were also given per mile per minute increase the first of the year 2023. Now rates are equal state wide which means more drivers in my area, but pays more per ride.
I was surprised the other day when a rider did not show and I cancel at the 5 minute mark. I was paid $10 and I did not look at the break down, but I assume it was due to it being 10 minutes to pickup fee plus wait fee.
Do not sign up for Comfort. You have to wait like 5 mins longer than normal when you arrive at pickup and you’ll just get even more entitled passengers. Not worth the very slight increase in pay.
I have comfort and the riders are just as punctual as any other rider. It pays more and the rides often show a bit more respect than UberX. But I've had all types in both types.
Your experience must be way different than mine.
One of the reason I don’t do comfort is the wait of 10 minutes. On X, I would cancel on 5 on comfort I cancel on 3, (can’t wait 10 and then cancel) if you want a comfort ride respect the time and show your class.
I also have a text in notes that I use sometimes before canceling
For comfort rides, the waiting is 2 minutes compulsory and 8 minutes optional.
At 16c a minute, I cannot wait for 10+ minutes.
My 2 minutes is up, and I am not sure how long you will take. so thanks. I will cut my losses and carry on with other riders.
Thanks
This is false. The riders who order comfort are even more down to earth and less entitled than x. I've also noticed that the tip rate for comfort is like 90%+ vs the 20% on x.
Comfort also doesn't do the radar bullshit while you are driving. It also let's you scoop up surges because x is the only tier that surges react to.
Comfort isn't about status, it's about the size of the back seat. Plenty of people order because they are too tall and need some room.
I try to run comfort only along with empower and I definitely stay busy enough and make plenty. The pay also isn't just a slight increase. It's over double the minimum pay and twice the wait time pay and on shorter runs uber only takes like 30% or less.
Oh and you don't "sign up for comfort", you will be eligible for it after a certain number of rides assuming your car is on the list, if it's not, you will be eligible asap if/when they add it. My ioniq wasn't on the list and then it was.
Call Uber support and ask them to add comfort.
If it's not there when I log on tomorrow, I'll call.
From my experience comfort is bs. There is less comfort than x so time to pickip longer and fares in upfront seem less for comfort than x. And on top of that they get to make requests like quiet preferred, or warm temperature.
Congrats for noticing. I’ve been telling people since it started that Comfort was a scam for the driver. Sadly, simple math eludes most drivers. Good on ya!
Same here. To make more money, put comfort off during peak hours and surge pricing.
I have seen comfort surge at 0.26c and total offer way less than X during those periods.
I drive a 2019 tundra SR5 crew max. It’s got an incredible amount of legroom in the front and back, the seats are wide, and the roof is tall. Uber’s website states that vehicles must have “more head and legroom” than UberX vehicle, and you have to give vehicle specific details to qualify for Uber black, so why doesn’t it work the same for comfort.
i have a tesla model 3 which does NOT have much head and legroom but it qualifies
¯\_(ツ)_/¯
A Honda CR-V also qualifies.
A Mercedes GLA also qualifies, even though it's not really any bigger than a Prius.
Implying this world runs on logical decisions.
I don't think Uber has any official "specification" that your vehicle must meet to be on the Comfort list, just that it has to be on the Comfort list. So we don't really know what criteria they're using, even though they vaguely say "bigger and newer" vehicles.
For example, Toyota Camry and Honda Accord both qualify, but the similar-space Hyundai Sonata does not. Does that make sense? No, no it does not, but that is what it is.
Been driving for almost a year, got a 5* rating and finally upgraded my car to a car that qualifies for Uber Comfort. To be clear, I got the car I wanted to get, only later did I realize it qualifies for Uber Comfort. (I'm assuming I qualify just based on my 5* rating and the car)
So, can I expect to make any more with Uber Comfort? Will it be worth it to reject some of the Uber X and wait longer for the Comfort rides? What about the clientele? Better tips?
Any advice, words of wisdom, encouragement, discouragement, hit me with it all. I've enjoyed driving for Uber as a part time job, I'm looking forward to continuing to Uber as a part time gig.
Thank you everyone
Edit: I thought the title said it all, but it clearly doesn’t.
I’ve been using a Polestar 2 that qualifies for EV/Comfort for a month and half in Las Vegas. I’ve only completed about 8 trips and that’s because I decline them now. Here’s what I noticed:
Bottom line, unless it’s super dead or there’s high surge on Comfort, I never accept comfort. Especially at the airport where they expect a lot of cargo room. Out of the 8 competed trips, 1 tipped $2 and 1 tipped $3. That’s 2 out of 8 as opposed to 6 out of 8 on UberX. You will make more doing UberX trips. I understand 8 trips is not enough to make an entire judgement call on the Comfort demographic but for me it’s not worth the headache.
With that being said, keep in mind, If you have a true luxury vehicle or big SUV (highlander, MDX, RX, 5 series, Lexus ES etc) your riders might tip more and will be much happier than if you had a Tesla model 3 or any other regular EV. You could potentially make more. Hope that helps.
You were absolutely right.
I only Uber weekends, so last night was my first Comfort, I only had the one. The guy was an absolute ass. Asked me to pull over along the way to pick up his friends. It was along the way so I said yes, but his friend took another 5 minutes to get in. Then he asks me to turn off the start/stop function of the car because it annoys him. I told him it helps me save gas and that I'd rather leave it on. No tip in the end... gave him 3*, he probably deserved a 2*. Hope the other Comfort rides get better.
As a rider, I have paid extra for uber comfort 2 times and both times the drivers showed up in old, wrecked cars. I won’t get tricked again. I figured they were broke so I didn’t leave them a bad rating but uber needs to police this better.
Doesn't really change much since 99% of rides are UberX. However, I have found passengers who order Comfort are generally better-behaved. However, you really won't be able to just do Comfort rides, at least not if you want to make any money.
Even you hv a car which qualifies for Comfort doesn’t mean you will get all day comfort requests they merged X with Comfort so you don’t hv a choice means to pick which one you gonna work
"Title says it all."
<types three more paragraphs>
Lol, you got me there
I have a VW ID.4 and for some reason it's not on the Uber Comfort list. I feel like it should be, since many peer cars are. Also, UberX pax keep on complimenting me on how nice the car is. Any ideas on how to get it added to the Comfort list?
The pay is a lot different for Uber Comfort Electric.
OP: Comfort requires 36" of rear leg room. Your VW should qualify at over 37".
Welp I submitted a message through the app. Let's see if it goes... Probably absolutely nowhere.
If it doesn't go anywhere try Twitter bombing them. When I bought my Elantra hybrid they are first said it didn't even "qualify" to drive at all 🤦 It was because Hyundai just started making the hybrid Elantra a couple years ago and they hadn't updated the list to put the hybrid version on there. Took maybe a week or 2 still after Twitter bombing them but got it done 🤘
I've tried it with my ID4 and got no where hope you have better luck
I reached out to Lyft to see if they can give me Lux status, I'll let you know if they say yes.
This is so obviously BS. My first reach out got a BS reply. I'm trying again 😂
I fought over it for 2 weeks pointing out other vehicles with less leg hip and headroom that are considered comfort
My MK1.5 Tiguan is comfort, yours should be. Mine is the r line, black on black leather, panoramic roof, and every option available. And it's pristine condition, always freshly cleaned and washed every day inside and out... I really think it should be eligible for Uber black 🤷
How'd it go here to get the new status
Nada. It's also dumb af that the Model 3 is Comfort when it has less legroom and headroom in the back than the ID4
Never heard of it but just looked it up. Looks like a sweet ride. No clue how to petition but seems like it would qualify. If any consolation comfort rides are less than 2% of my fares and in a high end market.
Just noticed a new class of vehicles with slightly higher rates. Until now, we have had UberX, Uber XL and UberSelect, now suddenly we have UberComfort and Uber SUV - which will cost the rider a bit more than UberX. But as usual, 'uberiously' no one told us what it is and whether your vehicle qualifies to be classed as such.
I know I can make a trip to the GLH to get more info. - but is anyone else wondering like me?
Update: Uber has a long list of vehicles eligible as 'Comfort' class - basically all high-end vehicles with some exceptions (Accord, Camry, etc.) but they must all be no more than 2 to 5 y.o. models. The list also includes vehicles that would qualify as Uber XL (like Dodge Caravan).
I appreciate the helpful comments; It would've been nice if Uber had sent out a notification before introducing something new. I found out only when I requested a ride at the airport and saw the new options for choice of vehicles.
One way to test if your car qualifies is to go online then turn on rider app and start a request for comfort tier. If your car is there, your car qualifies, if not, it does not qualify.
2018 Jeep Compass does qualify. I get comfort all the time. Mainly it just says in the app what preferences the rider wants ( cooler temps- quiet ride) what ever
Some markets have them, is rather new for many, best part is the list of cars is a shit show, here in Toronto u have cars that aren't even made any more on that list, and newer cars that won't qualify, same as well some cars will be there but the facelift version from the other brand will not, as per rule with fuber, just toss something in the air and try to c what comes back
Use Google to search for "Uber" + your city name + vehicle requirements. If Comfort is past the trial period, the qualifying vehicles will be listed there.
