Eligibility Requirements
Becoming an Uber Comfort driver isn't something you sign up for directly. Instead, your vehicle must meet specific requirements set by Uber, which include the make, model, and year of the car, as well as having a high driver rating (typically 4.85 or higher) and a certain number of completed trips [1:1]
[1:4]. To check if your vehicle qualifies, search "Uber vehicle requirements" along with your city to find a list of eligible vehicles
[1:2]
[5:5].
Automatic Enrollment
If your vehicle qualifies, you will automatically start receiving Comfort ride requests without needing to opt-in separately [1:5]
[1:8]. However, in some markets, there may be a separate toggle option for Comfort rides within the app
[2:1]
[3:2].
Market Variability
The availability and demand for Comfort rides can vary significantly by market. Some drivers report frequent Comfort requests, while others see very few [4:1]
[4:11]. In certain areas, Comfort rides pay about 15-20% more than UberX rides
[4:1], but this can depend on local conditions and demand.
Benefits and Drawbacks
Comfort rides tend to attract passengers who are willing to pay a bit more for a larger vehicle, and drivers often report better tips from Comfort riders [5:1]
[5:7]. However, some drivers find the increased wait times and occasional entitled passengers not worth the slightly higher fare
[3:3]
[4:5]. Additionally, Comfort rides might have longer pickup distances, which can affect profitability
[5:2].
Considerations Beyond Discussions
While becoming an Uber Comfort driver can potentially increase earnings, it's important to weigh the benefits against the potential downsides, such as increased wait times and varying demand. If your vehicle doesn't qualify, it may not be worth pursuing unless you're planning to upgrade to a qualifying vehicle. Always check the latest Uber guidelines for your specific market to ensure eligibility.
I've been searching for an hour now on the driver support website. I can't find anything that would help me sign up for the "Uber Comfort" option.
I tried calling the designated phone number but that just put me on hold for ten minutes and then hung up on me.
I've been a driver for five years and recently purchased a really nice car. Everyone loves it. I figure I might as well sign up for this "Comfort" thing and make a bit more money with it.
You have to have a qualifying car, 4.85+ rating & 50 (I think may be more) completed trips.
Exactly this. To find out which vehicles qualify, just do a search for "Uber vehicle requirements" + your city. Scroll down to Comfort and there will be a link to a list of qualifying vehicles.
Depending on your location, Comfort may not be an option there.
wow 4.85? Yeah I'm not quite there yet. But since getting my new car, my rating has been increasing sharply. Apparently, people really didn't like my previous subcompact car.
What is the make, model, and year of the vehicle? If it falls into Uber's Comfort-eligible vehicles for your area you will automatically have it available.
2020 Hyundai Ioniq hybrid. Very rare car, only just recently entering into general public awareness. This is a super comfortable and smooth ride with all the high tech bells and whistles. Plenty of leg room in the back.
I don't think that vehicle qualifies.
You don't sign up. You'll just start getting comfort requests
Comfort isn't something you sign up for. If your vehicle qualifies they will send you an alert describing the standards for comfort rides and asking if you want to opt in. Age of the vehicle, vehicle size and type along with the driver's rating are taken into account. Even a brand new car might not qualify for Comfort rides. My car does. The extra money is nice, but it makes me resent the people who book normal rides now.
My car is pretty rare and new. When I bought it two weeks ago, there was only one in stock in my entire city of 2 million people. I doubt it is on Uber's list even though this is, pretty much, the holy grail of Uber cars. The 2020 Hyundai Ioniq hybrid. A pretty luxurious ride, but can I talk to Uber about getting my car on the list?
It was automatic for me if you car is on the comfort list.
Quick, stupid question from new driver. I am now qualified for uber comfort drives. In the app is there supposed to be a separate toggle to turn on or off comfort, like there is for deliveries and uber x.
Thanks.
Nope, you are at the mercy of Uber. If only I could do Comfort it would make this so much better.
Really? When I was driving Comfort we had to wait longer than normal and most comfort pax were usually entitled pricks. Not worth the few extra cents.
Uber is telling them to order a higher class of service. A lot of the comforts that I get are because they had been waiting to long, reservations were being cancelled or drivers were leaving them etc. Yea some entitled pricks show up from time to time. It suck’s nonetheless, I get an extra .10 cents for letting them control temp and volume.
I believe you can if you have an XL
Just an Accord for me
I get comfort request randomly. I like when I get a long distance comfort ride. Other than that it’s whatever
My vehicle is aging out this year. But I don’t get a lot of comfort requests so I’m not too broken up about it.
You might try signing out of your account and then force stopping the app. That’s my go to any time the app is acting fucky for me. But if your market has comfort, then you should be able to toggle it on just like uberx, eats, and all the others.
Here in Dallas market we have the different toggle button for comfort just as xl and x. Mine didn't show up until I got my first comfort ride.
Depends on your market. When I had a Comfort-eligible vehicle, it was a separate option in the preferences. Some drivers have experienced being eligible for Comfort, but having no separate option.
I crossed 100 rides tonight, am above the rating spec., and my car is on the list in my market. Will it just pop up now, or do I have to call support?
Depends on the market. Washington state it falls uber the UberX and there is no specific Comfort selection in the drivers preference area.
This is definitely market dependent. I'm lucky that I have x and comfort separate. Helps me make more money with less stress. I turn off x when on a ride or I'm tired of the avalanche of bullshit offers from radar. Turning off x also let's me simultaneously scoop up surges and then when a comfort comes in I make even more. Comfort regularly pays me well over $2/mile and the tip rate is exponentially higher than x.
Yeh we also DONT have upfront and still have per mile per minute. We were also given per mile per minute increase the first of the year 2023. Now rates are equal state wide which means more drivers in my area, but pays more per ride.
I was surprised the other day when a rider did not show and I cancel at the 5 minute mark. I was paid $10 and I did not look at the break down, but I assume it was due to it being 10 minutes to pickup fee plus wait fee.
Do not sign up for Comfort. You have to wait like 5 mins longer than normal when you arrive at pickup and you’ll just get even more entitled passengers. Not worth the very slight increase in pay.
I have comfort and the riders are just as punctual as any other rider. It pays more and the rides often show a bit more respect than UberX. But I've had all types in both types.
Your experience must be way different than mine.
One of the reason I don’t do comfort is the wait of 10 minutes. On X, I would cancel on 5 on comfort I cancel on 3, (can’t wait 10 and then cancel) if you want a comfort ride respect the time and show your class.
I also have a text in notes that I use sometimes before canceling
For comfort rides, the waiting is 2 minutes compulsory and 8 minutes optional.
At 16c a minute, I cannot wait for 10+ minutes.
My 2 minutes is up, and I am not sure how long you will take. so thanks. I will cut my losses and carry on with other riders.
Thanks
This is false. The riders who order comfort are even more down to earth and less entitled than x. I've also noticed that the tip rate for comfort is like 90%+ vs the 20% on x.
Comfort also doesn't do the radar bullshit while you are driving. It also let's you scoop up surges because x is the only tier that surges react to.
Comfort isn't about status, it's about the size of the back seat. Plenty of people order because they are too tall and need some room.
I try to run comfort only along with empower and I definitely stay busy enough and make plenty. The pay also isn't just a slight increase. It's over double the minimum pay and twice the wait time pay and on shorter runs uber only takes like 30% or less.
Oh and you don't "sign up for comfort", you will be eligible for it after a certain number of rides assuming your car is on the list, if it's not, you will be eligible asap if/when they add it. My ioniq wasn't on the list and then it was.
Call Uber support and ask them to add comfort.
If it's not there when I log on tomorrow, I'll call.
From my experience comfort is bs. There is less comfort than x so time to pickip longer and fares in upfront seem less for comfort than x. And on top of that they get to make requests like quiet preferred, or warm temperature.
Congrats for noticing. I’ve been telling people since it started that Comfort was a scam for the driver. Sadly, simple math eludes most drivers. Good on ya!
Same here. To make more money, put comfort off during peak hours and surge pricing.
I have seen comfort surge at 0.26c and total offer way less than X during those periods.
I am trying to find out if there is any significant difference when it comes to pay for driving Uber Comfort? Do you find the demand to be worthwhile or do you find yourself picking up Uber X pax?
Just looking for some feedbacks.
Thanks
I've only been doing this about a month, and only part time. With about 150 rides, only two of them have been comfort. Happy surprise when it happens, but I wouldn't make a concerted effort to get a car that qualifies for comfort.
I use comfort to drive from work to home and vice-versa so I can write off the miles without having to take any actual fares. I think I've declined maybe two, and I've been doing it for the better part of a year.
How does that work? I have a car that qualifies for comfort and I try to pick up a pax or two on my way too and from work. How do you write off the miles without taking a fare?
Technically he is "working", so the miles would not be counted as "commuter" miles to and from his regular place of business.
In my market at least if your vehicle qualifies for comfort it will send you comfort rides as long as you are signed in under uberX. There is no opt in function to it. They just send me whatever rides are available at the time.
They pay about 15 to 20% more than UberX rides.
Although I haven't done any in awhile because I stopped using my car that qualifies for comfort to drive Uber.
All this, plus, your wait time increases from 7 minutes to 10 mins in order to cancel a comfort rider but you do get a larger cancel fee than uberx.
Plus I’ve experienced longer pickups on comfort so I stopped accepting them
You can disable uberx and only run comfort if you want. I made some decent money during the pandemic when I was likely the only driver on the road some days..
There is/was a glitch that paid me a cancel fee even when I canceled before I arrived. Same as you I traded in that car and my current one doesn't qualify.
It's only in some markets. I drive PA/NY/NJ/DE, and some random spots change my app to have comfort listed as a seperate type to check off from X, but the vast majority of the area only has X toggle with Comfort lumped in.
I get a lot of surged comfort rides from the airport. If I really, really want an airport ride, I’ll turn on comfort only and within a few minutes I’ll get one, as there are never any comforts in the queue.
It's about 2% of my fares. Totally immaterial
I've been going back and forth with Uber over the past month regarding the eligibility of my car, and am wondering if it's worth continuing the fight.
Their "AAA" reps keep telling me that I am approved, even though the website does not list my model AND I never show up as an available Comfort ride when testing from me or my wife's passenger app. I have received zero Comfort rides to date.
If I'm missing out on a random $5 every other week, I'm just gonna give up, but if pax are actually using this tier, and it's consistently paying out, I might start spamming their social media.
For reference, here's a chart I've put together, featuring similar models compared to mine: a 2015 VW Passat. Considering the ample interior space of my sedan, I'm absolutely flummoxed as to why the Passat is not listed as an approved model...
Typically they only pay a few extra bucks, if that. And they're not that frequent and about half the time the request is for a ridiculous pickup distance, like 7 miles to pickup for a 5 minute ride.
Also, since Uber decided Comfort is going to be on the first page of ride options, many groups of 5+ think that Comfort=XL and you'll pull up on a group of 5.
Is it worth it? I dunno, maybe, maybe not. If your vehicle doesn't qualify, though, I'd say don't sweat it.
It has been said long ago, is not worth it, fuber is using it to kill Select, most Comfort rides are at the end similar in cost as X where Select does have a better pay than Comfort.
They're not trying to kill Select. The fact is that in many markets Select was hardly worth driving for, 99% of the rides were still UberX or XL.
Uber's market research showed that there are enough people willing to pay a little extra for a vehicle that is larger. Select vehicles are not necessarily larger vehicles, so thus Comfort was born.
By not having the Comfort level, Uber was leaving money on the table.
...higher cut to fuber means at the end u still getting the same as x
In my market nothing older than 2016 qualifies for comfort.
How do you know this? The majority of cars listed on the Uber blog are 2014 and newer.
Google "uber vehicle requirements (your city)"
Comfort is definitely worth it. I now drive exclusively Comfort and XL and my profits have gone up significantly. Comfort riders are typically nicer and more apt to tip a good amount; usually percentages, not the standard $1-$3.
I will agree with the tips: they do seem to tip better. And I've found that the passengers are usually taller, not girthier.
In California 2015 is too old unless its luxury brand. I dont know your market.
Been driving for almost a year, got a 5* rating and finally upgraded my car to a car that qualifies for Uber Comfort. To be clear, I got the car I wanted to get, only later did I realize it qualifies for Uber Comfort. (I'm assuming I qualify just based on my 5* rating and the car)
So, can I expect to make any more with Uber Comfort? Will it be worth it to reject some of the Uber X and wait longer for the Comfort rides? What about the clientele? Better tips?
Any advice, words of wisdom, encouragement, discouragement, hit me with it all. I've enjoyed driving for Uber as a part time job, I'm looking forward to continuing to Uber as a part time gig.
Thank you everyone
Edit: I thought the title said it all, but it clearly doesn’t.
Doesn't really change much since 99% of rides are UberX. However, I have found passengers who order Comfort are generally better-behaved. However, you really won't be able to just do Comfort rides, at least not if you want to make any money.
I’ve been using a Polestar 2 that qualifies for EV/Comfort for a month and half in Las Vegas. I’ve only completed about 8 trips and that’s because I decline them now. Here’s what I noticed:
Bottom line, unless it’s super dead or there’s high surge on Comfort, I never accept comfort. Especially at the airport where they expect a lot of cargo room. Out of the 8 competed trips, 1 tipped $2 and 1 tipped $3. That’s 2 out of 8 as opposed to 6 out of 8 on UberX. You will make more doing UberX trips. I understand 8 trips is not enough to make an entire judgement call on the Comfort demographic but for me it’s not worth the headache.
With that being said, keep in mind, If you have a true luxury vehicle or big SUV (highlander, MDX, RX, 5 series, Lexus ES etc) your riders might tip more and will be much happier than if you had a Tesla model 3 or any other regular EV. You could potentially make more. Hope that helps.
You were absolutely right.
I only Uber weekends, so last night was my first Comfort, I only had the one. The guy was an absolute ass. Asked me to pull over along the way to pick up his friends. It was along the way so I said yes, but his friend took another 5 minutes to get in. Then he asks me to turn off the start/stop function of the car because it annoys him. I told him it helps me save gas and that I'd rather leave it on. No tip in the end... gave him 3*, he probably deserved a 2*. Hope the other Comfort rides get better.
Even you hv a car which qualifies for Comfort doesn’t mean you will get all day comfort requests they merged X with Comfort so you don’t hv a choice means to pick which one you gonna work
As a rider, I have paid extra for uber comfort 2 times and both times the drivers showed up in old, wrecked cars. I won’t get tricked again. I figured they were broke so I didn’t leave them a bad rating but uber needs to police this better.
"Title says it all."
<types three more paragraphs>
Lol, you got me there
Are any Uber drivers getting comfort rides in Los Angeles. I was thinking of upgrading to a comfort eligible vehicle.
Every 10-15 mins to be honest, sometimes shared rides add up
You’re get comfort rides every 10 to 15 minutes? Or just regular rides?
Comfort rides every 10-15 minutes in Los Angeles they are rare, most people dont care and choose the cheaper rides. Your personality and clean car get you the tips
I don’t have an option for giving comfort trips. I’m not sure if there just isn’t an option for that or if I need to argue with uber about it. If anyone knows, I’d definitely prefer the simple answer haha. As far as my app stats and car goes, I’ve got 472 trips, rating is 4.98, and I drive a 2017 Lexus NX200t. Thanks!
Usually Comfort can’t be more than 5-6 years old.
Your car may be too old to qualify
Look back at about a week ago in this sub, apparently they changed something and alot of people's cars don't qualify anymore.
I’ll scan through then. That’s annoying, even though I didn’t know it existed lol.
They don't pay much better don't worry
As of January 15th 2025, 2017 vehicle's do not qualify for comfort
I’m in Austin Texas and very confused about it. I only seen it when I was setting up Lyft. But it disappeared.
Not for regular uberx or xl. For uber premiere or black it might be needed. Market dependent.
Since Uber is attempting to force Comfort onto drivers (had a long conversation with phone support about comfort and according to them we will eventually be able to deactivate it but for now it's forced on everyone, even select and black drivers), I've decided that I'm going to accept every Comfort request that comes in and send the following to the passenger immediately:
"Hi, this is an Uber Comfort ride, Uber is charging you, the rider, almost as much as a high end ride while paying us, the drivers, barely more than an Uber X. Uber has given us no way of opting out of receiving Comfort requests and these rides are not equitable for drivers. Please cancel this ride (I will make sure you are not charged) and order either an Uber XL or Uber Select. Sorry for any inconvenience. Thanks!"
Riders need to know how bad this is for drivers.
What is uber comfort?
I thought it was for SUVs or cars with more leg room but not nice enough to qualify for select or black or whatever. I could be wrong but I’ve never seen it say to be quiet or anything.
So what it sounds like is a quiet ride. Uber is charging more for a quieter ride when it’s free to just ask your driver for some quiet time. People have lost the ability to ask simple requests it seems.
Asking them to cancel is wrong I would change it to I'm going to cancel this ride because it's not profitable for me.
Uber comfort is a way to shift people from premium rides to a sub par service while uber profits the difference... complete scam as usual.
And you the driver are not important because on top of that, you can not speak to the pax if they chose the silent mode lol
Cool, make the customer feel bad. Good on you. Jerk.
Look, yeah the pay sucks but at least it's a little more in your pocket and you're not having to work any harder. Why would you fight something that makes you more money? I get it on principle, but like it or not, Uber is going to do what they want. You should absolutely be mad about that and I agree with it on principle, but it's still going to make you more money, even if it's not much. Weird hill to die on.
lol, i do everything in my power, on every single trip, to make the customer feel as bad as possible about paying as little as possible for an Uber and how I'm not their slave. I love making customers feel bad, it's the BEST PART OF THE GIG!
But it doesn't pay more. I don't take X rides because they're not worth it. Select is about as low as I will go, sometimes XL. Comfort is a way of taking more from Riders and giving less to drivers. It's just wrong. If I don't accept those rides Uber punishes me by taking away features in the app that make this a legitimate independent contractor jobs like distance and direction. And the riders need to understand that it isn't equitable or they will just keep ordering it.
And if they are knowingly ordering rides that f*** over drivers at their expense then they deserve to feel bad.
Don’t accept them if you don’t want to. Pretty damn simple
Don't be an idiot. That negatively effects your ability to get
1 More rides
Fuck Uber pro. That shit is for the ants.
just decline the rides you don't want to take-- whatever the reason. This isn't the passengers fault - it is on Uber if anyone. If you only want a certain level of rides-- that is fine -- and Uber forcing you to have to deal with some lesser category is on them. I drive Select but if I only took that level, I'd go days between Uber rides. I sort of have to take UberX -- so if a Comfort ride came up-- I will take that but that is me. Your car, your service, your decision. I just disagree with giving the rider any grief for selecting this level. A quick decline and they get assigned elsewhere and the matter is done. Sending them a wall of text makes you look (and by association all Uber drivers) foolish imo.
