Sending Photos as Documents
Sending photos as documents on WhatsApp is a useful method to preserve metadata and avoid compression. When you send photos this way, they appear as files that need to be clicked to open, but they retain their original format and size [1:1]. This method allows you to send multiple photos at once
[1:1], making it convenient for sharing large numbers of images without losing quality.
Using Web WhatsApp for File Transfer
If you're considering sending files through Web WhatsApp from your workplace, be cautious, as IT departments may have tools to monitor browser activity [2:3]. While WhatsApp encrypts outbound communications, companies might install software that logs actions or intercepts traffic
[2:1]. Encrypting files before sending can provide an additional layer of security
[2:5].
Automating Document Sending
For those interested in automating the process of sending images as documents, using apps like Tasker could be beneficial. Tasker allows you to automate tasks on Android devices, potentially enabling you to select photos from your gallery and share them as documents with predefined commands [3:3]. However, setting up such automation requires careful configuration and understanding of your specific requirements.
WhatsApp Document Scanner
The document scanner feature in WhatsApp seems to be limited or not available on all versions. Some users suggest using alternative apps like Microsoft Office Lens for scanning and sharing documents [4:1]. It's important to verify whether this feature is available on your version of WhatsApp, as it might be exclusive to WhatsApp Business or specific operating systems
[4:2].
PDF Preview Issues
When sending PDFs via WhatsApp, some users experience issues with previewing the files themselves, although recipients can see the preview [5:1]. This problem might be related to device-specific settings or PDF protection features. If you're encountering similar issues, checking if your PDFs are password-protected or exploring device settings might help
[5:3].
Apple Messages allows sending friends/family photos with full meta data (great) but not with iPhone to Android. Faceook Messenger and Signal strips all meta data. I’ve heard you can send Photos to friends/family as Docs in What’s app to include alll meta.
as explained in the title, I work at a 500 fortune company so I presume they have software that can detected if I copy something to a thumb drive, but I will need to keep some things I worked on (not confidential but would be useful in the future), and wanted to know if I send files from my desktop to WhatsApp through the browser, would that be something IT can detect ?
Encrypt it using zip with a strong password, that way even if they did some shady certificate stuff and intercept traffic they would just see an encrypted file. (Make sure to encrypt filenames too).
However if they simply record the actions on your computer itself, they'd be able to track it.
Thank you. You mean they can see I uploaded something through the browser in WhatsApp or Gmail ?
I don't know what they did implement and what not. It's very bad security practice to install custom certificates in order to see traffic to whatsapp/gmail in your browser but it does happen.
If they installed other tooling on the computer however, they might be able to log everything, take screenshots etc. But I'd doubt this would happen or would be reviewed unless you're planning to steal company secrets and they find out.
What about if you - for example - open file, copy/paste text directly into your personal gmail (draft) e-mail?
I always send images in documents format to avoid compression in whatsapp, is there any way to do this outside of whatsapp or automating with Tasker.
Like from my gallery or file browser app i will select all the photos and upon choosing an AutoShare command it shares all those photos as documents. Any way to do that??
Might be a good idea to provide a more detailed explanation of your requirements and spell check it before posting.
Sorry, corrected all typo now.
>Might be a good idea to provide a more detailed explanation of your requirements
This option is not showing in my WhatsApp. Maybe it's showing to WhatsApp Business.
Is this part of iOS or Android? I'm not getting this in my phone
Ios and not integrated by whatsapp
Why do I see this creator every single day on this sub? Is this sub turning like his personal YouTube cult or something?
Lol
How tf is that a hidden feature
1: this feature seems to be missing in android version of WhatsApp
2: Try Office Lens from Microsoft
Me too, almost tried everything without any solution, it is really annoying issue.. iphone 15PM
What iPhone do you have? If I can know Thank you :)
iphone 15 Pro Max
Are the PDFs password protected?
No. Also, the people to whom I send the PDFs can see the file in preview. I leave you here under an example:
This is what appears to the person I send it to. How will you see this person if they can see the preview. However, since I am the one sending it, I do not have the option to preview it.
Um, maybe don’t doxx yourself?
Would be great to be able to send photos at their full resolution (when sent as photos WhatsApp compression reduces the quality too much). It can be done by saving photos to a folder and then sending the photo as a document but it is cumbersome and an automation would be great.
I know this is not the same thing but try this
https://www.icloud.com/shortcuts/b4a1f507c1b941ce9bffe5edaf667996
it zips all the photos so WhatsApp don't compress the photos
Edit: Fixed my mistake :)
Size limit of 25MB, IIRC.
Only the current date is sent!
The problem is that you want others to sent them hires to you. People who like hires images themselves use decent options to sent them. Like iMessage or an iCloud link. Or regular mail.
Problem is most of my world including family use WhatsApp. I’ve tried other things but it doesn’t wash with them! Also tried google photos to share but it’s unintuitive for those receiving
True. I have some too. Those with an iPhone i do ask to share an iCloud link. It’s quite sad that WhatsApp won’t send originals.
Figured out today.
Use documents option in attach button in the chat window to browse to the pics and send OG quality
I’ll probably try to do this
Good luck sir
I made this.

It saves photo in files app as A-WhatsApp. Converts if it’s not JPEG (if it’s HIEC)
Then opens WhatsApp app. From there have to select add files.
And it deletes that files when opening shortcuts again. After sending.
My immigration lawyers (who I'm starting to doubt know what they're talking about) suggested that, as proof of our relationship (for the fiancé visa) we should grab a PDF of our Whatsapp history.
I mean... for us that's about 90+ pages of deeply personal stuff.
Any thoughts on this?
No, when I submitted WhatsApp history, I just took screenshots of our conversations (1 from each month), and also sent snapshots of our WhatsApp call history to show that we are in regular contact when I'm not there with him. I even allowed some screenshots with mild expletives (to my husband's horror), as I think it shows us and who we are as humans. We got an approval, too, so it must have worked, with the other supporting documents. :)
do you know how to export whatsapp call history? Looking online it says there isn't a way to do it without hacking it. Chat logs yes but not call history.
Just take screenshots...
I did this - but not to that extreme. I used Canva and just put 4 screenshots of conversations from each month over the 12 months preceding the application. I intentionally chose non-personal parts of convos. Exported as a PDF and compressed.
ok, good shout. We have grabbed a few Discord pages so far.
our solicitor told us 3 pages of screen shots for beginning of relationship, middle, and current. nobody has time to read through 90 pages of your whatsapp messages idk why your lawyer would suggest that.
eta: the solicitor also told us to include in our letter that if they needed more screenshots of the messaging between us, we would be happy to provide that.
Just take a few screenshots through your relationship. You don’t need to upload every message you’ve ever sent. But a few screenshots does show contact of times when you’re apart and that you care about each others well being.
No one is reading 90 pages of chat logs anyway
By few screenshots how many do you think are good enough?
I'd recommend a screenshot of a couple messages every 2 weeks or so whenever you were apart, including the timestamps and dates. Doesn't have to be deep conversations, but I wouldn't go with just good night's and good mornings either.
Can you imagine them reading all of those chats about how brutal the visa application process is…
This is what we did
We didn't do this. We had our tenancy agreements, property info/taxes, bank statements, credit cards, employment info... Then for proof of relationship we had a few photos of each year of our relationship and a few emails. Nothing deeply personal/intimate.
So I've been using an old whatsapp group (I threw everyone out) as a easy way to transfer photos or texts between my phone and my laptop. Just send a file in the group, open webwhatsapp and voila it's on your computer. The only downside is ofcourse that the photo quality takes a hit, but well. For other files or pieces of text it works perfect for me.
I am aware that people use cloud nowadays, but I'm sure there are people out there who need to send a file to themselfs and then send it to their friend or SO.
Whatsapp has end-to-end encryption.
Potentially, except Whatsapp is owned by Meta and meta has been in court so many times for sharing people's personal data that I wouldn't call them a trusted encryption agency.
So rather than a direct secure connection between your phone and computer you would rather send your files out to the Internet and then back to you computer "because it has encryption"? Mind boggled.
I've just made a discord server that I'm alone in for this. Before that I used to have a whatsapp conversation with my other phone number, but I remember I've had some trouble in the past with whatsappweb (don't remember why or how but there was issues with file sending), so I switched to discord instead. I also figured discord takes less steps cause i don't need to reconnect it every time I want to use it on pc. Although then there's a file limit if you don't have nitro. Luckily I mostly have to deal with sending links from phone to pc and vice versa and the rare instances that I need to send a very large file i just use a USB cable. I have definitely seen friends using telegram for this sort of stuff too but I haven't actually looked into it myself as I haven't had the need
Webwhatsapp stays logged in if you want it to. But if discord works for you thats perfect right
Then probably there was something in the settings I needed to change that I missed. But also I was slightly bothered by the notification about whatsappweb being active that I remember I couldn't remove as long as I was logged in which really annoyed me. Although it was quite a long time ago when I was using this so things might have just changed by now too, so I'll probably give it a shot again sometime in future when I need to do a big file transfer :)
But yeah, definitely, I'm keeping to discord for everything that can be sent there at least!
Signal is so much better for that. You can just post anything on 'Notes to Self'
Nice, but for me, a user of whatapp and webwhatapp, this is just so convenient
Telegram has that feature as well.
Heard of telegram? Fully cloud based and the file limits are larger as well. We can access it in any device
Hello, I saw a few people asking this question*, so I thought of preparing a short guide. Basically, you need two things to carry stickers; firstly, your stickers as webp files (because WhatsApp saves them in this format) and secondly, Signal's desktop application.
I guess the easiest way to move webp's is by using WhatsApp's own "export" feature:
>... You can send all the WhatsApp stickers to yourself or one of your chats so that you can export all your stickers effectively. To export chat in WhatsApp on phone, you need to
>
>Step 1 Go to the chat that include all your WhatsApp stickers, it might be the one you sent all the WhatsApp stickers to.
>
>Step 2 For iOS devices, tap the contact name of the chat, scroll down and you will see the Export Chat, click on it. For Android, click the three dots on top right corner, from the pop up asking if you like to attach media files, click Attach Media because we are exporting WhatsApp stickers which are media files.
>
>Step 3 After the process of exporting data, you can choose which app to export to. Normally people will choose email to export. You can also choose Google Drive, or anyone you like. The chat will be exported as a zip file include a txt. file and a folder with all the media files, so it’s better that you can receive on computer.

Android users can even transfer it directly to their computers via cable, but I think this is the easiest way for IOS.
Then you could simply download your stickers and upload them to Signal database by using Signal's desktop client:
>Step 1 Open Signal Desktop and select File > Create/Upload Sticker Pack.
>
>Step 2 Add up to 200 stickers. Drag and drop to re-order. Hover over a sticker to preview in light and dark theme.
>
>Step 3 Select one emoji per sticker.
>
>Step 4 Enter a Title and Author. (Optional) Select a new cover sticker. Make changes now. Stickers are not linked to the Signal Creator's account. You cannot edit a sticker pack after uploading.
>
>Step 5 Copy the link to share your sticker pack outside of Signal.
>
>Step 6 Use the hashtag #makeprivacystick to help other people find the URLs for any custom sticker packs that you would like to make publicly accessible.
>
>Step 7 Select the sticker icon in your chat and select a sticker to automatically send.
>
>Source: Signal
And there is an unoffical site for finding or sharing stickers too: Signal Stickers
If you want to create your own stickers by Adobe Photoshop there is a psd file for this to use, just don't forget to save your files as png, webp or apng: WhatsApp
Let me also make a warning that I haven't seen on the internet. All of the stickers in your sticker package appear when the sticker is clicked. Keep that in mind.
I hope this was helpful.
Edit: I just saw FutureSwim's great guide, but I think this short guide still could be useful for those who want to specifically move their stickers from WhatsApp to Signal. If you think otherwise, please feel free to write.
Thanks brother
thanks for the guide, works as advertised!
That works so well. Really helpful. Many thanks!
Its painful to select an emoji for every sticker when transfering a few hundred at a time from Telegram. Is there any way to automate this ?
On a side-note: If you're using Telegram, you can use .@telesignal_bot to convert stickerpacks for Signal.
Same error with normal Reddit
