TL;DR To send documents via WhatsApp on an iPhone, ensure your files are saved in a cloud storage service like iCloud. Use the "Document" option in WhatsApp to select and send these files.
Using Cloud Storage for Document Transfer
One of the primary methods to send documents on WhatsApp from an iPhone involves using cloud storage services. iOS doesn't natively support sending large files directly from the device's local storage as easily as Android does [1:1]. To send a document, first upload it to a cloud service like iCloud or Google Drive. Then, within WhatsApp, tap the "+" icon, select "Document," and choose the file from your cloud storage.
Sending Photos as Documents
If you wish to send photos with full metadata, you can send them as documents rather than images. This method ensures that the metadata is preserved. When sent as a document, the recipient will see the file format and size, and they can open it by clicking on it [3:1]. However, note that auto-download settings may not work when photos are sent this way.
File Size Limitations
While attempting to send large video files (300-400MB) as documents, some users have reported difficulties. This might be due to limitations set by WhatsApp or the iOS system itself [1:1]. If you're facing issues, consider compressing the file or splitting it into smaller parts before uploading it to a cloud service for transfer.
Troubleshooting Tips
If you're experiencing issues with sending documents, ensure that your WhatsApp app is updated to the latest version. Additionally, check that your files are correctly uploaded to your chosen cloud service and accessible through the Files app on your iPhone. For specific issues, such as transferring WhatsApp data between devices, you might need third-party tools if native solutions aren't available yet [5:4].
By following these steps, you should be able to effectively send documents via WhatsApp from your iPhone. If problems persist, consulting WhatsApp's official FAQ or seeking help from their support team could provide additional solutions.
I am using iphone 16 pro . And i am unable to send 300-400mb videos as document files on whatsapp. Can anyone help or guide me with this?
Are you trying to send these from the local device? I don't think iOS supports this, not like android anyway.

This suggests the documents need to be on iCloud or other cloud storage to do so. Perhaps try that.
But my friend is able to send the file easily. She is using iPhone 15 .
How i can transfer Whatsapp Document, pictures,Videos From iphone 12 to Computer?
WhatsApp > Settings > Chats and turn on "Save to Camera Roll" option.
Settings > Privacy > Photos and enable WhatsApp
Once in your iphones photos you can use itunes or image capture mac app to transfer to hour computer.
Yeah i did this to image and videos but i found probleme with document
Apple Messages allows sending friends/family photos with full meta data (great) but not with iPhone to Android. Faceook Messenger and Signal strips all meta data. I’ve heard you can send Photos to friends/family as Docs in What’s app to include alll meta.
I can send password protected Microsoft office documents like pptx, docx etc without any issue on iOS and also through the WhatsApp client /app on windows. However, on android when I pick up a password protected file I get a prompt that the file I have picked is not a document.
The lack of this feature is really killing me as I heavily rely on WhatsApp to transmit and receive work documents but we are required to to password protect these files and this issue is forcing me to use an iPhone.
Please advise and help on what to do? Thanks
Usually I don't have that kind of problem. Anyway, if it is the case, just zip it (without or with pass on zip) and send it as zip.
Thanks, this is a great idea!
However, I still struggle to understand why this problem would crop up on android and not on ios?
First time posting here. My wife is trying to move to iOS since all her work all but uses apple for pretty much everything. With WhatsApp now allowing transfers to iPhone, she though she’d finally move her last device to Apple.
The snag however is that WhatsApp isn’t appearing on the MoveToiOS app.
Please help, this is driving both of us crazy.
We’ve followed all guides (incl. the WhatsApp one) and all versions of iPhone, WhatsApp, etc are updated. The only thing I’m not 100% sure about is the MoveToiOS version. On her phone it looks like it was last updated on 1 June so not sure if that makes a difference.
I had trouble with this too as i was not seeing the option to select Whatsapp in the Move to iOS app. I download the latest Whatsapp Beta version as of today: 2.22.16.3. Once i had the latest beta version, i saw the option to select Whatsapp in the Move to iOS app. In the google play store the Move to iOS apps Last Update date is June 1st.
whatsapp pics. dont showing in my iphone gallery. how can i fix?
not sure how to get that. Move to iOS helped with moving all the pics over for me.
How to get the beta version ?? Since I am not enrolled in the beta programme and its currently full.
If you are not WhatsApp beta testers, you are not available to use move to ios app to transfer WhatsApp. The function is rolling out. But it is not certain when it is available for general WhatsApp users. If you are urgent in transferring WhatsApp, you can try one WhatsApp transfer tool called Tenorshare iCareFone Transfer. And you don't need to factory reset your iPhone! my sister tried the software before and it did well in transferring WhatsApp.
Thanks so much for the recommendation! Will give it a try!
Has there been any solution for this? Pulling my hair out a bit!
There may be several reasons, you can check these:
Thx to anybody who answers
Depends on what type of files you're talking about and whether you're looking to edit them on your phone. But generally try OneDrive if you use that on windows. Then install onedrive on your iPhone.
I use OneDrive to copy a lot of files to and from my iPhone. Makes it real easy to get photos on my desktop compared to emailing them as I had done in the past.
Hardly ever works, if the phone connects it soon drops the connection and then you’re stuck in connectivity limbo
Blip
It's simple (and free for non commercial use)
LocalSend
I think it has nothing to do with the file size but with the file. Maybe WhatsApp is blocking the file due to file format or it's detecting it's corrupted. It happened to me when I downloaded a video from Reddit and tried to send it via whatsapp, but it didn't let me send the file.
It’s a video I made in selfie mode with my iPhone 13 pro. Seems to me such a file shouldn’t be an issue, right?
Maybe the file codec is causing the issue but sending the file as a document should not cause any issue. Try to send a larger non multimedia file for once.
There are internet sites where you can convert a video into a whatsapp format . Try to do this with your video, it should then work
use telegram
Only when I am trying to send a photo or video from my Photos Gallery to a contact or a whatsapp group . The WhatsApp crashes. No issues when trying to take a picture directly from the chat screen , and no issue with a copy pasted image.
(// iOS 16.1 Public Beta 2 = Issue has been fixed for me //)
The only way to send image is to press back on top left and re-enter album. It doesn’t crash then
Oh thanks for the workaround.
Same issue here. Doing it via photos instead.
Yeah, I also have this issue and found that sharing via the Photos app works.
Hopefully there is a fix soon.
I’m running into the same issue. But I didn’t know you could copy and paste. I’ve just been waiting for an update. Ha. Copy & pastes seem to work fine until it’s fixed
I am on the same beta and I am having the same issue.
Me too. Driving me crazy
Hey guys,
Ive preordered the s21 Ultra and am finally gonna say goodbye to my iphone. Was wondering if someone can recommend me the best way to transfer my whatsapp chat histories/media from iphone to android.
I used Dr.fone from Wondershare to transfer my wife's whatsapp history and multimedia from a galaxy A51 to an iphone 12 and it worked flawlessly.
It did cost me 20 bucks tho.
hello there mate, I am in your shoes now but I am just overwhelmed with all the options online. Could you please give a link to the tool you used in specific? Also if you can share any tips please do.
Sure! https://drfone.wondershare.net/ (not sure if I can share links?)
Second option is Whatsapp transfer.
The process is pretty straight forward and instructions are easy to follow so you should be just fine !
Does this keep the media as well in the chat?
It keeps everything you tell it to back up.
Maybe you need to purchase a third-party tool, if you use Email, you can only save your chats as a text file to view.
I believe the only way to do that is to pay for an app like dr fone.
Wazzapmigrator
I used this app in 2017 and it worked flawlessly.
You can try AppTrans, and it can help you complete the transfer. It has a free version that can do most things.

Which one works? Or both of them work?
Both works.
Then it’s not a bug, it’s a Facebook feature lol
Can you share the wallpaper?
One for receipt second for NSA
This is present on iOS 14.6 stable version. I think it’s a WhatsApp bug.
