When your MacBook fails to boot past the Apple logo, it can be due to various software or hardware issues. Here's a detailed guide based on user experiences and suggestions from several discussions.
Battery Issues
A common issue for MacBooks that won't boot past the Apple logo is battery-related problems. Users have reported that replacing the battery resolved their boot issues [1:1],
[3:1]. If your MacBook only works when plugged in, it might indicate a failing battery that needs replacement
[1:3],
[3:3].
Resetting NVRAM and SMC
Another potential solution is resetting the NVRAM (Non-Volatile Random-Access Memory) and the SMC (System Management Controller). These resets can resolve various startup issues. Instructions for these procedures can be found on Apple's support website [1:2].
Disk Utility and macOS Recovery
If the MacBook shuts off at the Apple logo, it may indicate an internal drive problem. Running Disk Utility via macOS Recovery can help diagnose and possibly fix disk errors [2:1]. However, if you can't access macOS Recovery, it might suggest a more serious hardware issue
[2:2].
Software and Firmware Issues
Sometimes, software updates or beta installations can cause boot issues. In such cases, restoring the Mac using another Mac, Configurator, and an IPSW file might be necessary [5:4]. It's also important to ensure that your data is backed up regularly to avoid loss during troubleshooting
[5:6].
Consulting Professionals
If none of the above solutions work, it may be time to consult professionals. Be cautious, as some repair shops may not specialize in Macs and could misdiagnose the issue [5:4]. Visiting an authorized Apple service provider is often recommended for accurate diagnosis and repair.
In summary, start with checking the battery and performing basic resets. If the issue persists, explore disk utility options and consider professional help if necessary. Regular backups are crucial to prevent data loss during these processes.
MacBook Air 2020 won’t boot up past Apple logo
MacBook won’t Boot past Apple logo
Ive Had battery problems for a while but my laptop has worked normally otherwise. However I can pretty much only use it when it’s plugged in otherwise it turns off after a few minutes and only on again when it’s plugged in. But now I tried to turn it on (when plugged in) and it boots up to the Apple logo but then stays that way. Forcing a restart doesn’t work bc it just gets stuck again and when I don’t have it plugged in it doesn’t respond at all. I tried turning it on while pressing command and R but nothing happens. Any idea what I can do? Thanks in advance.
reset the nvram, try resetting smc. you can also try booting while holding shift key. tell me what happens. and battery might need to be yanked out
It worked thank you so much! I definitely need to get the battery replaced but now at least it turned on
I’d get the battery replaced. Especially when it doesn’t power without the power cord.
It won't load start up options either, it just shows the Apple logo and turns off itself after like 2-5 minutes.
Do you have a MacBook Air or MacBook Pro? What year? Intel or Apple silicon?
Macbook Air, 2020, M1.
Your Mac may require hardware service, an inability to load macOS Recovery is not encouraging.
Shutting off at the Apple logo means your computer found problems with your internal drive that it couldn't fix, could be either a software issue that needs the drive to be erased or hardware problem. You'll need to run Disk Utility to see what it reports.

I have one of these right now and it seems like these models won't function properly with a dead battery that won't charge anymore. Even disconnecting the internal battery and connecting the mains USB-C power adapter, the laptop will turn on and boot, but is beyond unusably slow, the screen refreshing once every few seconds. Not sure if this model runs everything at minimum speeds when it doesn't have a good battery connected, so replacement of the battery will be the next thing to test.
I just had the same issue and replaced the battery. Still no luck. Did you find anything that worked?
Mine actually did resolve with the replacement battery. The system booted back up and is acting normal again. The replacement was annoying. So much adhesive.
I tried to install tiny10 via bootcamp on my 2020 i7 Air, tiny 10 is a lightweight version of windows. I left it and when I came back to it later, the screen was on, but black, for ages, maybe 2+hrs. so I shutdown the MacBook. now I cant turn it on at all, it is either off, on but black screen, or screen off but I can hear the fans and its warm. I have tried all the key combo boots like reset nvram and safe mode and boot into restore, no luck. so the MacBook is kind of bricked right now. please help me out! I can barely tell if it's turned on or off which doesn't help. external monitor doesn't work.
If it's still stuck in this state, press and hold the power button for like 10 seconds. See if the fans power down
Yes they do.
Does pressing the power button again not do anything afterwards?
M2 Pro, 32GB/1TB.
Mostly used for Spotify, hardly YouTube. Never had any issues.
Last night, simply wouldn’t turn on.
~a day after public beta, installed Tahoe.
Occurrence 1: Unable to boot, locate disk(similar message). Select only disk available. Had connected external disk, thought it was confused. But, the same HDD has been connected many times earlier without any issues.
Occurrence 2: Didn’t turn on, Blinking Orange in charger, after multiple attempts, turns on , same issue unable to locate boot disk.
Final destination: Multiple attempts, blinking orange turns green. No sign of life.
Gave my Mac for service, after preliminary inspection, still dead. No spills or physical abuse. Only Spotify. No backup data for last 2years. Questioning my brain cells, #ProcrastinationHurts
Edit: Got my MacBook back…confirmed, the motherboard’s dead. 💀 Specialist not able to recover data.
Thanks a lot for the link. I was lucky enough to get it back working after connecting bootable SDCard to dead Mac. I did nothing beyond that.
It's likely a software or firmware issue, not a hardware failing (unless the hardware failure was just a coincidence). You may need to restore it using another Mac, Configurator, and an IPSW.
Who did you take it to? Apple Stores are very happy to tell you to replace it, even if you don't need to, and there's a lot of incompetent repair shops out there, particularly ones that don't specialize in Macs.
My Mac mini got the sos blinking lights after I erased content and settings, got it fixed. The next time, I installed Mac OS onto external ssd then did erase content and settings and there were no errors.
Please let this be the thing that finally convinces you to use the free software that comes with your Mac to automatically back up your stuff. Especially if you think you’re savvy enough to run a beta on your daily driver. Without a backup. Even though you own an external drive.
"Edit: Got my MacBook back…confirmed, the motherboard’s dead. 💀 Specialist not able to recover data."
Don't think that's due to the beta specifically. Looks like it was hardware that was on it's way out and putting your machine up to the task of installing a new OS sped it up. Not being able to recover the data sounds like it was the SSD that went out, which would make sense as installing a new OS would put a lot on the SSD.
Got it working, it was beta issue.
M2 pro Spotify machine lol
Yeah, what's that about?
I’d name the same; Here’s one of my wrapped

My MacBook has been stuck like this for hours
I tried completely erasing my MacBook so that i could sell it but it’s been on this loading screen for 5 hours, anything I can do? Before this I erased something disk or smth idk, just followed the steps on an apple article
Possibly silly question, but have you actually tried selecting/clicking "Options" to boot into the recovery menu? From there, you can reinstall your OS.

Do you have an M1 or an Intel?
Im not sure :/

When I turn on my MacBook it only shows the Apple logo with no progress bar and the logo goes away buy there is power in the machine and the machine is on but the keyboard doesn't light up. When I boot it for multiple times it will show a circle with and exclamation mark inside and some site is down there which says support.apple.com/mac/recovery but it leads to no where I want some help What led to this was that I was updating my Mac to 13.6.1 and whiles installing the screen went off and didn't turn on again
The last resort for this is that your Mac cannot locate an OS. The easiest way to get past his is to use a bootable USB to reinstall the software but it’ll wipe everything on your Mac. Before wiping though, a few things you can try. Open up the Mac and unplug the battery for 10 seconds then plug it back in. You can try and SMC reset and a PVRAM reset (you can look up how to do those) another thing you can try is booting the mac and holding the option key and see if when you click your Mac hard drive, it boots up or gives you the same error. Just a few things off the top of my head. Hope one of those works so you don’t have to resort to wiping it.
Some say I need to revive or restore the Mac with another mac
When booting up if you hold just the options key does it take you to a screen?
Hey OP did you solve the issue? Mines having the same issue
Yh, get another MacBook and use apple configurator to revive the computer
Try booting into recovery mode.
I didn't work
Which model?
Something is causing the system initialization to fail, might be hardware related
13” 2015 MacBook Pro A1502
I’m clueless what it could be lol I was able to do an Apple diagnostics test and it came back with no issues. it just gives me the Apple logo when I try to boot into anything without the progress bar Or it just shows that panic message. Board looks great, no sign of water damage or anything. Should I try applying new thermal paste?
If you boot, is the kernel panic always exactly the same? Or does it change?
I'm honestly thinking something might be wrong with your CPU which is causing the system to fail. Could be the ram, could be the PCH... and so the list continues.
Something is going very wrong but finding the cause is quite hard.
This has never worked for me in the past, but why not I guess. But have you tried restarting ("Resetting") the SMC?
(If you've disconnected the battery at some point, you've already done this. As the system will be fully without power, the SMC will reboot too)
Another thing you could try, to test CPU issues, is to disconnect the battery and plug in the charger. This will cause the fans to run on full and the CPU to run at a low clockspeed. If everything keeps working (or works for a longer amount of time) it kinda tells us something with the CPU is going haywire.
Keep in mind that in this mode the system will have strongly degraded performance, so the bootup will most likely take a bit longer
command+V? When I do that it brings up a command line thing that goes through a bunch of stuff and at the end it says “attempting system restart…MACH reboot” On repeat a bunch of times and just stays on that. Same thing happens when I hold command+S on boot
You should download memtest and create a bootable USB. If no errors are detect seems it’s your cpu.
Just got this MacBook. Came like this, won't start and will send me to kernel panic, then shows the charging bar with the apple logo, turns on the fans for like 1 sec and dies, then it keeps doing it in loop.
Already tried reseting PRMA NVRAM, SMC, reinstalling MacOs, first aid, loging into safe mode. Has anyone been through this? If so, what did you do to fix it? Is it maybe software Issues?
Model?
2019 16" i9 32GB Ram 1TB SSD

Looks like it’s not working. Hope this helps.
Could be just its being used wrong
Definitively
How does it help you ? I don’t understand.
