TL;DR Try resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) and NVRAM if your MacBook is an Intel model. If these steps don't work, consider checking for hardware issues like corrosion on the logic board or seek professional repair services.
Resetting SMC and NVRAM
For Intel-based MacBooks, resetting the System Management Controller (SMC) and NVRAM can often resolve power-related issues [1:1],
[3:1],
[5:1]. The SMC controls low-level functions such as power management, and resetting it can sometimes fix problems with charging and startup. Similarly, resetting the NVRAM, which stores settings like display resolution and volume, might help. Ensure the MacBook is connected to the charger during these resets, and repeat the process if necessary.
Identifying Hardware Issues
If resetting doesn't solve the issue, there may be a hardware problem. One user suggested that a logic board issue could cause the MacBook not to turn on, especially if there's corrosion present [4:1]. Checking for corrosion around the charging port and other areas of the logic board might provide clues. However, identifying corrosion accurately often requires specialized tools or a microscope
[4:4].
Checking Charger Compatibility
Ensure you're using the correct charger for your MacBook model. Using a lower wattage charger, such as an iPhone charger instead of the standard 61W USB-C charger, may lead to charging issues [5:1]. Verify that the charger is functioning correctly by checking for indicator lights when it's connected
[4:2].
Professional Repair Services
If the above steps do not resolve the issue, it might be time to consult a professional repair service. A technician can perform a more thorough diagnostic to identify any underlying hardware problems, such as a faulty DC-in board or other components [4:3],
[4:5].
In summary, start with software resets if applicable, check for visible hardware issues, ensure proper charger use, and consider professional help if needed.
Guys is the only to fix this is to go to the repair shop?
My MacBook won't turn on, its fine a few hours ago but after i left it charging when i came back its not turning on, when i plug the charger again the keyboard lit up but the screen is still not opening, then after few seconds the keyboard lights also dies down.
what do you guys think is the problem, this is my first time having an apple product so don't be harsh to me, thanks.
Could reset SMC and NVRAM if it was Intel MacBook.
Connect to charger before reset SMC. If first reset isn;t fixed could reset few times.

Model?
its old MacBook, 2017 macbook
Hello, so around 4 years ago my MacBook dimmed as they do, then never turned back on. Around 1 year ago I randomly tried to turn it back on and it worked and now 1 year on it dimmed again and randomly won’t work? It makes the charging noise and the backlight comes on and the Touch Bar works. Any tips please? Is it a software issue?
Cute selfie btw
Could reset SMC and NVRAM.
Connect to charger before reset SMC. If first reset doesn't fixed better reset few times.
Hard to tell from the photo. Do you get a green/orange light on the charger when you connect it?
Yes I did
DC-in board is probably OK then. Disconnect the battery if you haven’t already and then apply power, see if the system shows any sign of life.
So I tried clicking the trackpad and it wasn’t doing anything indicating that the MacBook isn’t on. So I read that it’s likely a logic board issue. I looked for any signs of corrosion on the board and the only sign of it was here on the charging port. My question is: is this corrosion and would this cause my MacBook to not turn on at all?
It needs to be looked under a microscope and/or checked with many other tools to confirm that. Send to a board repair tech.
Let me brother used my Mac and he said it won’t charge. I thought it was just the brick since he was using the oem iPhone and not the 61W C but I can’t turn it one no light or sign or power. Any ideas?
If it was Intel MacBook could reset SMC. Can't reset SMC for MacBook M chip.
Check first does it has T2 chip or not.
Connect to charger before reset SMC. If first reset doesn't fixed could reset few times.
Hi everyone. A few days ago my MacBook suddenly did not want to start up at all. I tried everything I saw online such as resetting the SMC etc. I left it charging overnight and the MagSafe charger was green by the morning... still no response. A few hours later I returned home and it was fairly warm to the touch but it still was unresponsive. I plugged it in to charge again and it fired straight up but was on critical battery. It was working fine for a day or so but this morning the issue occurred again and I haven't been able to get it to turn on again. I have ordered a replacement battery but when I went to check the battery diagnostics it read as 475 cycles which was "normal". Any help would be greatly appreciated since I need it urgently for my job!!
That’s probably for the best, no? Imagine being turned on by your MacBook, how would you get any work done?
Macbook has some nice features but I say f 'em. I don't remember neither once having so much pain in the ass with Windows. I regret buying that overrated piece of shhh.
Is “Liquid Retina” or “Milled Aluminum” not hitting the right buttons?
Maybe some role play would help spice things up and help get you turned on?
I’ll be an unstressed office worker and you be a fully functioning laptop computer. Oh yeah, that’s so hot.
Could test with other charger and cable.
If nearby Apple store available could take it there. The staff willlng test it with other charger and cable.
Could try use other charger and cable.
If there are nearby Apple store could bring it there. Apple staff would do free test for you.
have you figured it out
Are you with the one year warranty window or do you have AppleCare?
Anyone have any ideas why my MacBook says it is charging (I think that’s what this means) but won’t turn on? I’ve tried multiple plugs. TIA
It could be that the Mac recognizes the charger but the battery isn’t actually charging.
Battery probably needs a replacement. Bring it to an Apple Store and let them run a test

Have you tried connecting it to a tv or monitor to see if it’s just the screen that’s broken?
Need to try this thanks. Unfortunately I have just lost my HDMI to USBC cable!
Is the battery OK? Sometimes Macs will not work properly if the battery is DOA, even if they are plugged in.
OP, you must have a working computer/phone to ask your question here. I googled this: 'MacBook pro screen stuck at dim' and the AI gave me ten good suggestions that I could cut-and-paste here, and a long list of links to this very common issue.
Maybe do that.
Yes the battery has always been ok. And yes, I googled this issue, I also asked AI, none of the solutions worked, so thought I’d come to Reddit to see if people have had similar issues and a successful solution before taking it to get fixed?

Have you tried not using Mac
Try running diagnostics on it, after you press the power button you should immediately press D, if the Mac isn’t gone for good you should see the diagnostic screen which will run a test and give you a reference code for the problems it detects alongside a short description of the issue. Other than that, a visit to the Apple store or an AASP would also be recommended ( you should still do that after the diagnostic because that tool is meant to help the servicing process and speed it up).
Check the screen dim.
No, really.
Glad this doesn’t happen in the newer MacBooks anymore, I remember taking my old MacBook Air to apple store thinking it doesn’t turn on anymore and found out that the damn brightness was too low
Even the best of the genuis have it happen to them
SMC Reset. Connect HDMI or Thunderbolt output to an external monitor in determining if the notebook LCD has malfunctioned. No boot screen/power on, then you’ll have to check power distribution circuit, keyboard connection, etc. which all require opening it. Other component failures, besides the display, will typically illicit some visual output though during boot test.
Get a flashlight and try to see if there is anything shown in the screen.
Do you ever get a chime?
No, there’s no sounds whatsoever
I just noticed now though that I can hear the fan trying to turn on, as if it were about to start up, but then it quickly cuts off. I think a trip to the Apple store is my best bet
MacBook won’t turn on but charging
Here are some key considerations and troubleshooting steps:
Check the Power Source:
Inspect the Charging Cable and Port:
Force Restart:
Reset SMC (System Management Controller):
Check for Signs of Life:
Try Safe Mode:
External Display:
Recommendation: If none of these steps work, it may indicate a hardware issue (like a faulty battery or logic board). In this case, contacting Apple Support or visiting an Apple Store or authorized service provider is advisable for further diagnosis and repair.
