Belly Leaving the Summer House
One of the most emotional scenes discussed involves Belly leaving the summer house for the airport, where she hears echoes of childhood voices. This moment symbolizes saying goodbye to her childhood and the friendships she feels she has ruined [1:1]. The scene is poignant as it captures the grief of lost innocence and the realization that those cherished moments can never be reclaimed
[1:2]. Many viewers found this scene heartbreaking, especially with the imagery of young Conrad running away
[1:3].
Conrad's Confession to Belly
Another anticipated emotional moment is when Conrad confesses his enduring love for Belly. This scene is filled with tension and unresolved feelings, making it a significant point of emotional turmoil [2:1]. The dialogue between them highlights the complexity of their relationship and the deep-seated emotions that have been simmering beneath the surface
[2:11].
Underrated Pool Scene
A less-discussed but deeply emotional scene is when Conrad watches Belly swim at night. His sad eyes convey a wealth of unspoken emotions, and his presence signifies a desire to reconnect, even if he can't fully express it [3:1]. This scene is emblematic of their complicated relationship, with Conrad's longing juxtaposed against Belly's need for space
[3:4].
Grief and Loss
The series does not shy away from heavy themes such as grief and loss, which are portrayed with depth and realism. The impact of losing a loved one, like Susannah, is a recurring theme that resonates with many viewers who have experienced similar losses [4:1]. The portrayal of different types of love and how they intertwine with grief adds layers to the emotional narrative
[4:4].
Season 3 Finale
In the season 3 finale, the evolution of characters is evident, particularly in how they interact and respect each other's boundaries [5:1]. The subtle changes, such as Conrad calling Belly by her full name Isabel, reflect growth and maturity
[5:4]. The continuity of shared memories, like the wedding champagne, underscores the significance of certain moments and their lasting impact on the characters
[5:6].
Belly was leaving the summer house for the airport and she was hearing echoes of all their voices as kids? It felt like she was leaving the summer house for good and reminiscing on the friendships that she feels she ruined. Those echoes were moments from her childhood that she can never get back.
Omg that and leaving the key on the counter got me good as well as the glimpse of Conrad kid version running away from her. It felt so sad knowing that they all need the space of many years to heal and all at once the grief of lost innocence overcame her.
When she saw Conrad as a child in her mind during what she thought was their final goodbye it absolutely wrecked me.
It wrecked me too
It was very sad. I remember leaving our summer house for the last time, and I still miss that place
Yeah it was heartbreaking, her saying goodbye 😭. She's been trying to hold onto it for so long and it didn't work.
She wanted that gorgeous beach house and I can’t blame a girl for trying
Yesss! So sad! Who do you think was the last voice we heard? I felt like that last little voice was so prominent and I was trying to figure out if it was little Connie or Belly herself.
The “come on belly” was definitely young Conrad’s voice
YEP, i clocked his voice!
This didn't hit as hard as the Conrad forehead kiss scene, but I felt it and I loved this scene. It was Belly saying goodbye to her childhood fantasies, and giving up on clinging to expectations of what her life 'should' be. It was her making space in her heart for new experiences and relationships. (Might be a relationship with a familiar face , but definitely a new, actually mature relationship)
I will start with mine.
Belly: You really are heartless.
Conrad: No, I think you might actually be the heartless one.
Belly: What does that supposed to mean?
Conrad:I still love you. I never stopped. I think, you know it I think you've known it all along.
Belly: That's not true.
Conrad :okay, Have it your way? But I'm not going to pretend for you anymore.
And these belly and Conrad inner monologues.
Belly: When Conrad Fisher told a girl. He loved her, he meant it. A girl could believe in that. A Girl, could maybe even bet her whole life on
Conrad: Did I have it in me to just grab her hand and run away? I believe she'd come with me. If I asked her, I believe she really might come But where would we even go?
What would be yours?
Peach scene!!
I agree! I’m also looking forward to this whole day of them together. They go to the flower shop. He straight up asks her why she isn’t going with Jere (yeah belly, why are you ALWAYS asking Conrad to go on these errands 🤭), the person at the shop mistakes him for her fiancée. Then they drive home and peach scene. I think with all the added dialogue this is gonna be a beautiful sequence of scenes
I think We will feel more if we see that scene rather than reading.
Any Conrad/Laurel conversation
Fr fr. When he asked her to support Belly at the diner and she asks what’s in it for him. Laurel knows
This is such a funny scene in the book cuz he’s like I need to protect myself and my heart and get away from belly. No more helping her! Then the next scene is him seeing her stressed out and immediately helping her again. He just can’t help himself. Sweet Connie baby.
Belly fuming jealous that Conrad made Anika laugh.
i need this scene
Conrad telling Belly not to marry Jeremiah after he finds out about Cabo
Emotional turmoil in that scene 🤯.
I can already imagine it in my head…
“Don’t marry him. Don’t be with him. Be with me.”
Chris and his eye acting are gonna crush this scene ❤️
I haven't seen this scene being brought up to discussion so I think its underestimated. Conrads sad eyes are saying so much. His way of looking at her insecure, like he isn't allowed anymore. And the fact that he knew she would go out and swim that night and he went out there to talk to her.
My feeling is that he wanted to say more but he just couldn't get it out? Or he just wanted to be close to her. Anyway, can't wait for a pool scene in season 3 😍
No, I don’t think they are. He is in the background of 4 July with Nicole and Belly is on the deck. When they are playing volleyball in the pool in an earlier scene Conrad and Nicole are sitting with their feet in while the others play.
I have always kind of thought it was emblematic of them not quite being ready to take the plunge so to speak, or Conrad’s inability to go all in, and get in the water. They drag each other into the surf after the first kiss but it’s not so much swimming in the full sense.
You can take the analogy further by saying that when they are in together in that first sequence at Cousins he pulls her right under they have this intense moment and they both don’t kind of know what to do with it (definitely electricity) and quickly spring awkwardly apart.
Jere on the other hand gets in the pool with her multiple times and it is a back drop for many meaningful moments between the two.
My headcanon is he wanted to talk (not necessarily about themselves or their relationship, just to reconnect) but she said pool is that one place where she can leave all the drama behind, so he decided to give her some space.
But from Belly's pov: He left again.
I think he absolutely wanted to be close to her, a sort of olive branch or testing the waters so to speak but she was closed off and he decided she needed more space, that she didn’t feel drawn to him like he did her. She fell first but he absolutely fell harder
This is from S2 right? Yeah! Totally, when she swims away he just takes this as a confirmation of what you said. If she stayed he would open up a bit, they would end up talking more without Jeremiah around
I thought iy was season 1 when she asks him why he smokes pot.
It’s season 1 before the bonfire night where she meets Cam
There is a similar scene like this in season 1 that is like this but this one is from season 2
Gotta say folks, I desperately want him to get in the pool with her. That scene from S1, Ep 1 where they are underwater is magic.
Oh give them a playful scene in the pool. Their competive sides make them go all up in a game and they just forget about Jere and the wedding and end up being close kissing
jellies heads would absolutely roll if bonrad had a near kissing/kissing scene in the pool.
Yesss and the fact that Belly could sense that something was wrong with him. Like she clocked it within the first 10 mins of the episode, and the facttt that he was ABOUT to tell her 😩 😩
Are you thinking about the pool scene in season one? This is from s2 when jere and belly finds Conrad at Cousins after he's been "missing".
so maybe I am dumb for not reading more about the show before watching it, but it is not what I expected at all
I was looking to watch something fun and lightweight, similar to XO Kitty and To All The Boys I Loved Before. I expected TSITP to be typical coming of age story, to be lighthearted and fun. you know, one of those stories that feel like nothing really bad is ever going to happen. and the characters would deal with difficult situations with ease and comedy. you know, Friends/Gilmore girls type of the show.
also, the circulating clips about the show made me believe it would all be about teenage relationship and love triangles. and the biggest problem would be 'I like this boy, oh, no, now I like this boy'
turns out, it is a serious drama.
the main theme of the show is family, grief and loss. as someone who lost a loved one to cancer, I didn't expect the show to be such an accurate representation of what it feels like, slowly watching someone wither away
the variety of how family members deal with it, the sincerity of their emotions - it all took me by surprise. by the end of season 1 i was bawling my eyes out. the scene where Laurel cries in bed with Belly and Steven honestly broke me
i feel like everyone is talking about Conrad-Belly-Jeremiah triangle, but not enough people talk about how the show is such a powerful drama, talking about much more serious topics. it has HUGE emphasis on the aftermath of losing a parent, and how such a loss affects everyone around
for the contrast, i recently watched a movie The life list, which dealt with a similar topic. but surprisingly it felt way more lighthearted and focused on main character's love life a lot
TSITP is RAW, man. I can't even get to enjoy romantic and fun moments between the characters, mostly, because how shaken and sad I am by Sushannah's death and everyone's reaction to it
does anyone else feel the same way? edit: I think it's a brilliant show, that portraits important topics with a lot of accuracy, empathy and dignity. but it is not by all means 'a fun summer watch'
I'm not one for sappy, love story stuff, but find myself obsessed with TSITP. I think that's why. It's not all mushy and lovey-dovey. It has drama, it has real world scenarios such as navigating illness and dealing with grief and succession stuff and what not after loss. The love story side of it, while not applicable to everyone, is very relatable, especially for close family friends like on the show, coaches' kids, etc. The show is real, and that's what makes it enjoyable. It's not too deep into the sad stuff, or the happy go lucky, or anything in between. It bounces across everything and depicts what families can actually face.
ig for s2 it’s kinda true but i still its a lighthearted drama. imo we don’t see that much focus on the grief
maybe I focused on it too much, since losing a loved one to cancer hit too close to home
Absolutely. As someone who has also experienced loss of close loved ones, I agree. Not comedy in any way. There is humour in amongst the sadness though but it’s not the focus. I think the portrayal of the variance of grief, and its differing effects on people is right on the nose. Grief is not the same for everyone nor does it follow a linear course. Also that there are lots of different types of love - adult best friends, young love, family love etc.
second that! the portrayal of different types of grief was spot on
Having read the books a decade ago, I think the heavy emotional toll dimmed over the years, but absolutely yes. I remember reading the second book as a kid and that intro KILLED me. When she’s like “Susannah is dead.”
for some reason reading that feels heavier than watching
If you finished both seasons, the good news is that s3 will probably be the light and fun watch you are hoping to find. Definitely still a lot of drama, but I think it will be a lot of fun, too.
i hope so! those poor kids (and honestly, adults too) deserve to heal and have some fun. they've been through hell

WELCOME TO THE FINAL SHOW. We've loved experiencing season 3 with you all!
Such a change from the pool scene in Season 1.
Love that he respects her by calling her Isabel in front of her new friends and not belly
I noticed this too! And he asks her on the way home if that’s how she prefers to be called by him
That's just for them, like his gift to her. In a world where everything is shared out all the time, nice to see them keep some things just for them.
Like a year later and they’re still going with the champagne😭😭
Also love how this means the memory is just as important to him as it is to Belly
i can’t believe i actually ended up liking him
And they kept staring at each other without any disturbance, it's so fcking hot. Conrad couldn't move his eyes even when passing the weed ahhhhhhhhhhhhh and belly kept staring too ahhhhhhhhhh
Adam constantly bringing out this wedding champagne is cracking me up 🤣
Right lmao btw this whole scene is too sexy I just can't handle it lol
My wedding actually went through and we had extras for at least 6 months! Haha
It really shows how much they have changed, as people.

Conrad is staying because he saw her crying. Nobody talk to me.
I CRIED!!!!
But could we talk about the fact that Belly is really upset by the fact Conrad don't to be his brother best man at the wedding with the girl he still loves...
Them mocking Conrad on the pool literally pmo so much. I was praying for Conrad to leave and never come back 😭😭
Belly lost me the moment she mocked him 🥲 felt so bad for Conrad he deserves better than her please
The mockery is unforgivable. She mocked him before he even said anything bad about the wedding, too. She behaved like a jerk, annoyed that he was in his own home?! And she didn't apologize for any of it either, and then cried loud enough so he could hear. IDK, I'm very upset with my girl.
Belly is really annoying especially in this past episode.. I mean I don't understand if she is really over Conrad, i don't think so but she is pretending so well
I'm assuming they are making us dislike her for a reason. She will end up going to Paris, do a little growing up and then will be ready for Conrad... at least I freaking hope so cause giiirrrrrl what are you doing.
In the book, she ends up with concord after calling off the wedding and being by herself for awhile so that’s most likely the way the show will end.
I gasp so hard i chocked on my water
i dont understand what conrad sees in her anymore because all of her likeability is gone
I hope Conrad will open up and tells Belly he still loves her... I mean we know Susannah wanted Conrad to be the one for Belly.
These guys have great reaction videos to the episodes and the one for this week was especially funny and on point. I always enjoy getting a guy‘s thoughts on the show.
One of the best reactors. Rob squinting when Jere pulled out the ring lmaooo
Agreed! Side note: Happy cake day!
Thanks!
Obsessed with their reactions.
Same! Been following them for years.
I loved it 🥰
Ohhhhh love them !!!!! Pro Team Conrad 🙌🏻❤
I love these guys so much! Have you seen Sammy Bates too? Her reactions to the recent episode helped me a lot tbh
I have and I enjoy her videos a lot! She’s so funny and has the best commentary 😂
I have.
I just sat down and watched “The Summer I Turned Pretty” on Amazon Prime and I have to say- it was the worst. Not only is the title problematic itself, but it displayed themes of glorifying classism, promoting sexism, and overall had a terrible plot. The actors had to literally force themselves to exhibit raw emotions during crucial scenes, which overall worsened the already poorly written and out of touch writing. Don’t waste your time on this show.
*in seventh grade teacher voice* where‘s the evidence for your points? Pls Elaborate.
in all seriousness, you left out the subplot about the tension between Steven and those rich people w/ their microaggressions, Jeremiah being bi (which I hope will be expanded on in season 2), one of the debutantes being able to have another girl be her escort. And the title is meant to refer to coming-of-age and Belly blossoming from a nerdy little sister-type to a young woman who is seen in a different way by her longtime friends.
It‘s cool if you didn’t like it, others will disagree.
It’s not even about ugly becoming pretty but growing out of her preteen awkward phase into a young woman
It's just the summer where she's on the other side of puberty. In the show obviously it doesn't really work because they use the same actress to portray her in the flashbacks from a year ago. But normally you're supposed to understand that the summer before she still looked like a kid and that summer she shows up looking different.
I personally never had a year where I became "hot" or never had a stark transformation because my growing up was just kind of gradual and putting on muscles (even though I'm a woman my puberty was mostly muscle), but I have a cousin who was a hot girl and it was pretty clear which year she went from a kid to a hot girl and all of a sudden all the boys were after her. You couldn't really say she was hot the year before because she still looked like a kid. But then one year of puberty magic and she had a hot body, her skin cleared, she started doing something to her hair to remove the frizz, and she got contacts.
So I assume it's just some girls have a transformation like this, others not really.
The awkward acting was spot on. Made me feel like I’m in my teens again.
The worst acting I've ever seen outside of YouTube
exactly....I got a "she's all that vibe"....just let your hair down and remove the glasses and braces and you're now "pretty". oh turns out they were pretty all along.
>The actors had to literally force themselves to exhibit raw emotions during crucial scenes
Isn't that the entire premise of acting?
> displayed themes of glorifying classism, promoting sexism, and overall had a terrible plot
What you're describing just sounds like standard teen/YA oriented programming, not sure why this one stuck in your crawl - the whole genre has been like this for decades.
lol it’s really random to zero in on this light, fluffy summer series out of 90210, Euphoria, Heartstopper, To All the Boys I’ve Loved Before, Gossip Girl, Riverdale, One Tree Hill, Teen Wolf, Glee, The Vampire Diaries, etc….
The acting was incredibly poor, I think if you had any common sense you would understand that’s what I was saying. There have been far better YA series where expressing emotions felt natural, rather than forced 🙄
Also yes, this is true. The genre how it is now, is problematic. I was just point out that people should not watch this specific series because it was far more blatant in its writing. This series is unapologetic in expressing harmful stereotypes, classism, sexism, and applied the bare minimum of LGBTQIA+ characters and themes.
I’m surprised you don’t like the show, given your rude and over the top responses to benign comments. You sound more like an angsty teenager than the cast. Maybe you should audition?
>You don't become pretty if you remove your glasses and braces. WTF. CRINGE
*cough*Uglybetty
I kept watching because I wanted to see where the moms stories were going.
Also to see if their dad would show up again because Colin Ferguson is awesome.
OH MY GOD THE ENDING?? THE TENSION??!! rethink ur choices girl!!! 😭 😵💫
No surprise this scene had more chemistry then any jelly scenes.
Child Conrad and Belly even had more chemistry than any Jelly scene this season🙄
I swear she hasn't looked with that much pure need or want at anyone or anything this whole season. Except maybe the peaches.
Then all off them combined.
this scene did things to me FALSE GOD???
THE SCREAM I SCREAMED WHEN FALSE GOD STARTED PLAYING
Going to play that song to death now (false god is just that diva)
The tension, the yearning, the taking care of each other, the slow burn that just keeps getting hotter. This is the foundations of the romance genre
https://i.redd.it/brh41xfn6rif1.gif
Blessing all today's post with this... 🤗
The sound of heart beating is cheery on the top! Also it's so sexy when both Conrad and Belly being dizzy😭😭 the chemistry is so good!! But this is seriously the only good scene in this episode
