Online Party Games for Groups

Affordable and Accessible Options

For those looking to play online party games with friends without breaking the bank, there are several affordable options. Board Game Arena offers a subscription model where only one person needs to pay $5 a month or $36 a year to access premium games and invite friends [1:1]. Free browser-based games like http://scribl.io and http://garticphone.com are also popular, allowing large groups to join in on the fun without any cost [2:1].

Games for Large Groups

If you're hosting a game day for a larger group, consider games that can accommodate many players. Jackbox Games is a versatile option, as it allows one person to purchase and host while others join via their devices [2:2]. Another suggestion is Booze Brawl, which has no player limit and can be played without alcohol [3:1].

Unique and Niche Games

For those interested in more niche or unique experiences, Into the M.A.W. offers a cooperative space mission experience for 3-4 players [4:3]. For fans of drawing and guessing games, Spyfall provides a hidden role challenge where players must deduce the spy among them [5:2].

Competitive and Interactive Games

Groups looking for competitive play might enjoy Gaming Couch, which offers over a dozen mini-games controlled via smartphones [4:2]. Alternatively, Mindustry offers a team-play experience with dedicated servers, providing a strategic challenge [2:3].

Creative and Fun Alternatives

For a creative twist, http://humour-contest.org lets players respond to prompts and vote for their favorite answers, making it easy to pick up and play [5:1]. This game emphasizes creativity and humor, offering a light-hearted alternative to more traditional party games.

These recommendations provide a variety of options to suit different group sizes, interests, and budgets, ensuring an enjoyable online gaming experience for everyone involved.

ORIGINAL POST

I want to play more party games with my online friends, so I’m looking for games that are good for online groups and either free or like $5 ish. I already have a bunch of the Jackbox games, which I love, as well as Monster Prom. Its also okay if the game is a little more expensive but only one person has to buy it (like jackbox). I love board games so I’d be open to online versions of those as well.

Board Game Arena is $5 a month or $36 a year. You can access all premium games and invite your friends to play. They don’t need to pay, just one account.

You might like the cooperative Pico Park game. It’s an action puzzle.

IIRC Fall Guys may still be free.

This! I found BGA 3 years ago and had since spent so much time on it with my friends while on vocie chat. Fantastic collection of games, and great to try some out before I bought the physical copies.

How does it compare to tabletop simulator? Like is it the same vibe but cheaper?

Online party games for 10-20 people

Posted by Extension_View2332 · in r/gamingsuggestions · 4 years ago

I'll explain my prompt a bit. My office is trying to put together an online game day type of thing where we can all take a break and play something together.

So, any game that allows us to host a private room for a bunch of people to play against each other would be great.

The budget isn't really set, but I'm guessing free-$5 per player.

Thanks for your help!

Both are free browser based games that you can play with quite a few people and they are mad fun.

Free Coop online demo/short games, game night with friends

Posted by I_Just_Need_A_Login · in r/CoOpGaming · 1 month ago

My group likes to play new online games on weekends, playing indies, multiplayer demos or free games. Most the time we are looking for something new or fresh that we've never seen before.

Examples of what we play:

Intoxicated Driver

A Gentlemen's Dispute

Fishards (and other wc3 warlocks clones)

Ultimate chicken horse (been a long time)

Ultimate godspeed (good Mario kart clone of ultimate chicken horse)

Lots of smash bros

Cursed Halo

Noita together (and Noita nemesis)

Various other demos and stuff, usually give really terrible stuff a shot for a laugh.

Tldr: looking for short weird free online multiplayer games (3-4 player max)

Sounds like Gaming Couch might be right up your alley! Over a dozen competitive mini-games that you control using your smartphone. Supports 1-8 players at once

We play online, not couch. And we are not interested in casual games like jackbox esque stuff

Alright! We are developing online mode as well but no clear release date for that yet. We've been mainly playing online by sharing a screen via Google Meet, Zoom etc... works pretty well on stable internet connection, even when participants are in different countries :) I wouldn't classify the games as casual though, most of our mini-games are very similar to the ones on your list, Smash Brosh, Mario Kart etc...

Into the M.A.W. is designed for 3-4 players. Each person picks a role aboard a space ship and you try to work together to survive missions. Might be along the lines of what you're looking for!

Looking for online versions of party games similar to Gartic Phone and Codenames

Posted by hackermankey · in r/gamingsuggestions · 8 months ago

Hi folks! i have been trying to find online games with larger groups of friends and work colleagues (~10 or so). I have had good experience with Gartic phone and Codenames because the interface is pretty good, the games are fairly easy to understand, and ultimately fun to play. Codenames is nice for a challenge because varying skill levels can enjoy and have fun. Same with Gartic phone. There's something for everyone.

Are there other games folks are playing that are similar to these games?

Spyfall. Hidden role game. Everyone gets the name of a location except for one player who is the spy. Players take turns asking questions to each other. The spy tries to figure out the location while the other players try to find out who the spy is.

Group/party games!?

I've enjoyed boardgamearena.com, which includes some party games like Bang!, and I've played AmongUs over Discord. It's free on your phone or $5 on Steam. I second the recommendation for Jackbox! I've also played a lot of Psych!, which is a free app.

Online party games for groups of people during lockdown

Posted by CodeMilo · in r/AskGames · 5 years ago

Hello everyone,

I have been in lockdown for the past 2 weeks and while I am personally doing fine, I have many colleagues who live alone and don't have much social interaction apart from job related stuff. In order to try to have as much as fun as possible considering the circumstances, I am planning on doing some private gaming nights so we can all have some time off.

I know that Twitch doesn't allow to have private stream and neither does YouTube so I guess Discord is the best option here. Are there other alternatives?

Now the most important part, "THE GAMES". Ideally I am looking for games where only one person needs to own it and the rest participates, like the jackbox party games. Are there more games like this that can be played over the phone where multiple people can participate? Something similar to trivial pursuit?

Thank you all in advance

Edit: forgot to mention that I am searching for PC games mostly.

I've hosted several really great scavenger hunts, and the integrated skribbl is really really fun, especially if you come up with some custom words to include.

You can also play games on screen share and make them communal - that was fun one night.

I also had a good time with a youtube party watching ridiculous videos.

basilbowman · 4 years ago

Follow-up, the thing that makes the scavenger hunt fun is combining the virtual with the real. So, for example, when I built one map, I hid a bunch of rubber duckies and had people find them, among other clues. Then I had them go find as many coffee mugs in their house as they could, or show us their pets, or try to find the secret passage in the gather space. If you want, I can dig up the list I had and pm you.

I also discovered you can embed dosbox games from the internet archive and set up an arcade. They aren't multiplayer, but they're still nostalgic fun to play Oregon trail.

Can you elaborate on how you would have done this? I would love to implement something like this in the future.

Edit: Found an article explaining the process online and showing me which game are available. Thanks!

Sure - so basically it revolves around the idea that Gather has the ability to open HTTPS links natively - so the way I did it was to create a custom object (a couple pixel art arcade cabinets, in my case) and then set them up so that when you interact with them (the whole "Press X to..." thing) - it points to the link at the Internet Archive where the game is hosted.

For example, if you wanted to play Prince of Persia, you set it up to target https://archive.org/embed/msdos_Prince_of_Persia_1990#loading, and it'll fire right up!

online, free game for coworkers (2+)

Posted by MattyBoi187 · in r/gamingsuggestions · 1 year ago

every month, my remote team and i play an online game as a form of bonding. the team consists of people from different nationalities and ages, so trivia based games have not been super successful.

we’ve played a bunch of jackbox games but i would like to suggest something more epic and fun.

the group can be anywhere from 2 to 8 players, but it averages around 3 or 4.

i personally like games like Skyrim and RRD2, and i keep trying to get us to start a DnD campaign but they’re kind of wet blankets about there “not being a goal” (not true but okay)

Party games can great for the casual workplace setting:

  • Keep Talking and Nobody Explodes (2+ players, only the defuser needs the game)
  • Unspottable (2-4 players)
  • Ultimate Chicken Horse (2-4)

Competitive:

  • Rounds (1v1, there's a mod for up to 16)
  • Stick Fight: The Game (2-4)

Social Deception:

  • Among Us (4-15)
  • Project Winter (5-8)

Cooperative:

  • Overcooked (1-4)

Horror:

  • Lethal Company (is it horror?) (2-4, mods for more)
  • Phasmophobia (1-4)

Throwing these in there, but they're typically longer games and more suited for frequent sessions than once a month.
Cooperative:

  • Unrailed (1-4)
  • PlateUp (1-4, mods for up to 100)

online party games for groups

Key Considerations for Online Party Games:

  1. Group Size: Ensure the game can accommodate your group size. Some games work better with larger groups, while others are ideal for smaller teams.

  2. Platform Compatibility: Check if the game is accessible on various devices (PC, mobile, console) to ensure everyone can join easily.

  3. Game Type: Consider the type of game that suits your group’s interests—trivia, strategy, cooperative, or casual fun.

  4. Ease of Use: Look for games that are easy to learn and set up, especially if you have participants with varying levels of gaming experience.

  5. Voice/Video Integration: Games that allow for voice or video chat can enhance the social experience, making it feel more like an in-person gathering.

Popular Online Party Games:

  1. Jackbox Party Packs: A collection of mini-games that are perfect for groups. Players join via their phones, and games range from trivia to drawing challenges.

  2. Among Us: A multiplayer game of teamwork and betrayal where players work together to complete tasks while trying to identify the impostor among them.

  3. Skribbl.io: A free online drawing and guessing game similar to Pictionary, where players take turns drawing while others guess the word.

  4. Codenames Online: A digital version of the popular word association game, where teams compete to identify their agents based on clues given by their spymaster.

  5. Tabletop Simulator: A versatile platform that allows you to play a wide variety of board games online with friends, offering a more customizable experience.

Recommendation: If you're looking for a game that combines fun and creativity, Jackbox Party Packs are highly recommended due to their variety and ease of use. They cater to different interests and can accommodate large groups, making them perfect for virtual gatherings.
