Overview of the Adaptation
"The Summer I Turned Pretty" is a popular book series by Jenny Han that has been adapted into a TV series on Prime Video. The adaptation has garnered mixed reviews, with some viewers appreciating it as a modern teen drama akin to "Gen Z's Dawson's Creek" [3:1], while others criticize it for feeling like a collection of TikTok stars in a room and not living up to expectations for a quality teen show
[3:2].
Upcoming Film Adaptation
In addition to the TV series, Amazon has greenlit a feature film that will conclude the series, written by Jenny Han herself [3]. This decision follows the release of three seasons of the TV show, indicating that there is still significant interest in the story and its characters
[4:6]. There is speculation about whether the film will be released theatrically or remain exclusive to Prime Video
[4:1]
[4:2].
Cultural Impact and Criticisms
The series has sparked discussions about representation, with Jenny Han being praised for keeping Wasian actors busy [3:9]. However, the show has also faced criticism for its perceived lack of depth and originality, with some viewers finding the title itself off-putting
[3:5]. Additionally, the use of Taylor Swift's music throughout the series has been humorously noted as a recurring theme, leading some to jest about it being a fanfic tribute
[4:4].
Fan Reactions and Future Expectations
Fans have expressed mixed feelings about the conclusion of the TV series, with some eager for more content beyond the third season [5:1]. The upcoming movie is anticipated to wrap up the narrative, focusing on key character arcs and relationships, such as the Bonrad storyline
[4:10]. Despite varying opinions on the show's quality, it remains a topic of conversation among its audience, showcasing its cultural footprint in the realm of teen dramas.

'The Summer I Turned Pretty' is set to be adapted into a film, wrapping up the stories of the main characters. To know full details, here’s the link: https://www.bollywoodshaadis.com/articles/the-summer-i-turned-pretty-movie-on-amazon-68475
I have never watched this show purely because the title gives me the ick.
It's really bad, most of the scenes just feel like you got a bunch of TikTok stars and put them in a room. I love trashy teen shows but this was personally one of the worst teen shows I've seen in recent memory.
I binged the whole thing and it's okay. I call it "Gen Z's Dawson's Creek" (also learned they filmed in Wilmington as well)
I also didn't watch Dawson's Creek so I'm pretty sure it's not my thing 😂
This made me gasp. Because the scene where dawson's dad...., actually sent me into orbit. I was decades late watching it in uni but istg i never looked back jdkdkdodododdoo some how this is cracking me up.
it isn't worth it, trust me
Not worth it. Save your brain cells for something better. Fr
greenlit a feature film**
my bad, this is what happens when you walk and type
if belly had gone to my school me and my friends would gossip about her every time we met up
jenny han singlehandedly keeping wasian actors booked and busy
Well one Wasian, maybe two as a treat. JK I hope they end up in the Bay Area and Belly makes some Asian friends
Team Conrad and his slutty little watch for life
Girlie event movies are back on the menu! If they give this a theatrical release I genuinely wonder what the box office will be.
Gotta give it to Jenny Han she knows how to keep us on the edge of our seats
The tv series was released on Prime Video so I would think it would stay on Prime Video?
Taylor Swift’s money laundering scheme continues 😂
You killed me with this comment. Legit the number of her songs they’ve snuck in there 🤣
while watching the finale i kept thinking “is this book just TS fanfic?” cause it’s essentially all her music lol
I mean I’m happy Dress was used and Out of the Woods for that matter they perfectly reflected the scenes they were used, especially that Dress scene
Dead hahaha I love this comment
3 seasons and a movie!
Just when I thought I was out, they pull me back in.
I can't take anymore hahahaha
At least it’ll be a Bonrad narrative and no more Jelly
The finale felt half baked and left some important moments from the end of the last book out. This makes sense to me.
'The Summer I Turned Pretty' Season 3 finale is here, and fans are not ready for the show to end. So, let's find out whether it's really the end or if there's something else coming for the fans. The way I thought this was a fake fan trailer 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭 oh my I cannot wait!!!!!!
Same! the letters at the end. I'm so excited!
Thank you for posting it!!
Ugh I was actually so happy for belly seeing her be happy and have a new life until I heard Conrad like let this girl have a fresh start.
But in the books Con says that Jere has been talking to her before he sends the letters. So maybe she tries to reach out to him first? I can see her asking him to see her, to talk to her, and him refusing for a while. Until eventually he decides to see her, maybe since he’s already graduated it really is him in London with his dad’s firm, and he hops a train to Paris? She’s surprised to see him but also not ready for all the emotions it stirs up…
I can see this happening, but it won’t be believable. Did they miss Jeremiah’s dead eyes after crying nonstop last episode? That man is not getting over this anytime soon. A time jump is also not going to make this believable too.
But we know he only wants Belly’s happiness and his brother’s too so this is likely what will happen.
i always felt like the paris scene was a dream since it never made sense to me and i don’t think its a fake scene since they took a BTS photo. i think she looks around and imagines jeremiah since they were supposed to be in paris together. and i get why she didnt take off the ring until she was on the plane but i still wonder why she took the wedding dress…
and benito is another guy with curly hair🤣 she clearly has a type with cam, jeremiah and benito
Idk… based on the final trailer, I’m glad Belly’s finally discovering herself in Paris. But then they show her taking off her engagement ring on the plane (a clear sign she’s starting a new chapter outside Cousins). She looks happy and free, but then it ends with Conrad’s ‘Dear Belly’ letter narration...and no sign of Jere at all. Honestly, it left me feeling sad. It’s like Jeremiah is being forgotten as always after all. That was my first impression of the trailer, at least.🥲
I felt like that too
I felt that too. But she kept it in the small pouch so wondering if it makes an appearance later because that ring is been there since ep4 to probably ep9 or 10. Again I feel that they are erasing Jere from her life and she’ll go back to Conrad happily.
I would truly love to see her do this because it’s the most realistic, especially in the day and age, but I just think she loves Conrad too much and she wouldn’t do her books a disservice like that. A lot of the fans love her with Conrad and this is supposed to be that books to show kind of thing and I would’ve totally accepted that if they didn’t propagate this love triangle like this and didn’t add the extra nuances to make the stakes even higher for their relationships. I would’ve totally lied down and took it, but not the way that they’ve taken it and for that I’m unwell
This sis the thing. Jeremiah wants all of her. Conrad doesn’t care. He just wants to have her. He doesn’t care what she says about it in the meantime
Predictable cliché and inconsistent, unrealistic character reactions and development from this tv show but no surprise, JH sucks as a show runner and writer
“Anything can happen” and it’s just following the books 😭😭😭
Didn't she say that when her and Conrad kissed at the end of S1? "If this can happen, anything can happen". She was wrong though 😬
I’m throwing up. If Laurel doesn’t know she’s there then does this mean Conrad didn’t see her and maybe found out that she ran off and he goes back to look for her?!
Yes I think so. Either Conrad wasn’t sitting at the gate (she saw someone else and thought it was him) or she turned around and boarded the flight without saying anything.
My theory is that Conrad gets a call from Laurel saying wedding is off and Belly is missing before Belly can even get to him. He sprints off to search for her and she boards the plane
I kinda think she saw him and just decided that if she talked to him they’d start over again and honestly, she needs to choose herself and be alone at this point. She has ping ponged between these dudes for years and needs time to just be alone and find herself.
I think we’ll see another time jump because the only way Belly ends up with Conrad and for Jeremiah to not just be completely written out is to let some time pass and hopefully Jeremiah finds his person.
I think maybe somebody says to belly ‘passport please’ and she turns around and gets her passport out. Whilst this is happening Conrad gets a text saying ‘have you seen belly? She ran away’ and he gets up and leaves. Belly turns around just as she’s about to decide whether to board the plane and Conrad is gone
Apparently there is a picture of Conrad with all of the gang in cousins after he found out the wedding was called off. I wonder if 1)He talks with Jere and convinces him to make it right which is why we see Jere in Paris, 2) Taylor finally tells Steven about Jere cheating, one can only hope, 3) Conrad finally makes up with everyone and JUST maybe they apologize.
I think Belly looks at Conrad but she never approaches him at all
I don’t know what I was expecting but if we don’t have at least one entire episode of Belly and Conrad actively being happy together I will riot.
I didn’t sit through 8 episodes of Jelly to be “rewarded” with some letters from Conrad (I hated it in the book too) who once AGAIN has to be the one to reach out to show Belly they belong together because she’s too stupid to see it.
This trailer tells me though that they do not talk at the airport because I can’t imagine Conrad knowing she went off to Paris and not telling Laurel.
If we only get one episode it had better be two hours. If they end it just like the book with a flash forward to the wedding without showing us how they got there (and not just a five minute montage!), I will have wasted so much of my life on this show LOL
She made friends faster in Paris (does she speak French or was she magically let back into study abroad on short notice) than she did in three years at Finch.
I wonder if she ever officially accepted or declined. They made a point to have Taylor tell us that she'd already called and backed out. If she never did, then that is messsyyyyy and I love her for it.
I wonder if it is creative editing for the trailer. Like she is on the phone with someone else and they spliced it to be talking to her mom.
I’m glad Belly is gonna do some soul searching in Paris cause she really needed to get a life outside of Cousins & that bubble. The letter might start happening end of ep 9-10. I ship Bonrad (neutral like) so it’ll be nice too see how that gonna worked out. Based on this trailer do you think Bellly is gonna have a good arc?
No! Not at the end of episode 9 please. Belly needs to live her life. I don ’t want a montage of her Paris life🥲
I can see that being the case. EP 9 will likely be her paris adventures
I'm glad that she is finally and I also ship Bonrad
Her styling after she, I assume, finds herself in Paris is a major YES!!!
Actual grown-up style versus Belly cosplaying as grownup for the first 8 lol.
I'm excited!
RIGHT? Let's GO with that haircut and that lipstick. Or rather, with that experimentation and self expression!
SHAKINGG THE FACT THAT WE HAVE A TRAILER MEANS THE NEXT THREE EPISODES ARE GONNA BE CRAZYYY. ALSO WE'RE GETTING MORE CONRAD POV??? HIS NARRATION IN THE END
Yesss that's exciting
We are gonna watch a new show altogether now 🥺
The things that could HAPPEN now!!!
🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼🙌🏼
Screaming. Oh my god. This is exactly what I wanted for her.
The thing is though, the show seemed to allude to their being something else to their relationship, with all the comments about there being “three people in that marriage”, etc.
Or maybe they were just trying to portray a friendship that truly has no boundaries. Laurel & Susannah were very enmeshed.
Yeahhhhh except they call Belly ‘their’ daughter and the husbands talk about them having a third member in the relationship. Their friendship might not have been ‘romantic’ but it sure had no boundaries.
TLDR:
There's truly nothing I hate more than this narrative.
Deep female friendship is seen on screen much much more than gay relationships. That's such an ass pull. Disappointing every time I see it.
I never understood this narrative
They love each other they aren’t in love with each other they are platonic sole mates and it’s beautiful
They are each others person but it doesn’t always have to be romantic
"The lesbian continuum is a term coined by Adrienne Rich (1986) in “Compulsory Heterosexuality and Lesbian Existence.” By constructing sexual identity along a gradient, it offers an alternative to traditional binary classifications of sexual identity. This concept was formulated with the intent of including women who do not ordinarily think of themselves as lesbians, specifically women who identify as heterosexuals. [Source: Encyclopedia of Social Theory; Lesbian Continuum]"
"The lesbian continuum is a radical feminist model of sexual orientation, claiming that all women have a lesbian potential and that women's bonding, defined as lesbianism but not necessarily based on genital sexuality, is the only successful way to overthrow patriarchy. It was developed by Adrienne Rich in her 1981 essay “Compulsory Heterosexuality and Lesbian Existence” and triggered fierce debates within and outside lesbian feminism. This fluid model of female sexuality stands in contrast with the more essentialistic approach to sexual orientation represented by identity politics, but resurfaces in queer theory. Originally devised as a political tool to describe women's resistance to patriarchy, the notion of lesbian continuum has been used in literary and film criticism, and some queer theorists have expanded its use to cover gender as well as sexuality."
