Overview
"The Sinner" is a crime drama series that revolves around Detective Harry Ambrose as he investigates complex and often disturbing cases. Each season introduces a new mystery, with the central theme being an exploration of the psychological motives behind seemingly inexplicable crimes. The show is known for its intense plot twists and deep character studies.
Season 1
The first season focuses on Cora Tannetti, a young mother who inexplicably commits a violent act in public without any apparent motive. As Detective Ambrose delves into her past, he uncovers a history of trauma and abuse that gradually reveals the reasons behind her actions [3]. This season is praised for its intricate storytelling and satisfying conclusion, where all mysteries are resolved without resorting to supernatural explanations
[5:2].
Season 2
In the second season, Detective Ambrose returns to his hometown to investigate a double murder committed by a young boy named Julian Walker. The investigation leads him into a secretive commune and unravels themes of cult influence and familial secrets. Viewers found this season engaging but noted it didn't quite match the impact of the first season [5].
Season 3 and Beyond
Subsequent seasons continue to explore dark and psychologically driven narratives. Season 3 follows Detective Ambrose as he investigates a fatal car accident that spirals into a much larger conspiracy involving existential dread and moral ambiguity [1]. The show's ability to maintain suspense while exploring human psychology remains a significant draw for audiences.
Reception
"The Sinner" has been well-received for its compelling plots and strong performances, particularly by Bill Pullman as Detective Ambrose. While some viewers felt certain endings were less impactful [1:2], others appreciated the series for its unique approach to crime drama, comparing it favorably to other shows like "True Detective"
[3:8] and recommending similar series such as "Sharp Objects" and "Broadchurch" for fans seeking more content in the same vein
[5:2].

Summary
Undoubtedly the most conventional season, with a retired detective Ambrose and investigating a case where the culprits are not identified at the beginning of the series as in the other seasons. Perhaps the most interesting thing is how the profile of the alleged victim is problematized, and the mystery and intrigue that this generates on a character that becomes increasingly difficult to frame. A season that mostly does not incur the implausibilities of the third but that does not manage to approach the quality and intensity of the first two either.

Thought the ending was meh.
Ended up being hard to cheer for anyone.
Didn’t like the latest season at all.
Loved it. My partner and I had a thrilling time with it, we really enjoyed this whole series, so glad that Netflix is doing it a great service. I hope that there will be a few more seasons.
I am obsessed with this movie I watched it twice in the theater and like 3 times since it was released on YouTube but there's ONE thing that confuses me. How do their souls work? Like when they die do their souls go to heaven or wherever everyone else goes or what? I have two ideas with explanation:
Like, if they reunited with their fallen families when they die why didn't Remmick just kill himself years ago to see them? I'm guessing the answer is my #1 theory but I'm curious what you guys think or if the answer was in my face the whole time lol.
I think nobody knows, not even vampires, what happens after death. Which is why Remmick(and literally everyone else on the planet) didn’t/doesn’t kill themselves after losing someone.
I agree that Remmick seemed at peace in his death and there are sone parallels between his and Stack’s death scenes which indicate they have similar afterlife fates.
There’s no evidence to suggest vampires have a special separate afterlife. Annie didn’t want to turn into a vamp because she viewed that as a warped unnatural prolonging of existence and she had great personal faith that she would see her baby again.
I remember Annie said something about souls but I think it was about those haint spirit thingys so I mixed them up. It makes sense that they're just as confused as me lmaoo. Thanks for the response :)
She said haints don’t have souls(they’re kinda like ghouls or poltergeists) but vamps souls get trapped in their bodies.
Omg it was by far the best Crime/drama I've seen in a while! 10 out 10 I recommend to a Friend. I loved all of the plot twists and the ending was so satisfying to see. I've been wanting to watch this show ever since I've seen previews on cable, when it came out on netflix I was super excited to see it. The show was better than I expected. Also did anyone else cringe so hard when Frankies dad pushed the needle in her arm hard and she was saying ow? Gotta admit I was touching my arms bc the cringe was real ugh!
If you havent already seen, Sharp Objects is a new show which reminds me alot of The Sinner. Something to watch while waiting for season 2
I started watching sharp objects before this show and to me it was so bad I quit watching it. As I was looking for another show I stumbled upon the Sinner and boy am I glad i found it. Sharp Objects just tries really hard to be edgy and so far it's all drama and very little crime, like the past few episodes don't really add anything new to the story except for the fact that they're all alcoholics, whether they're 15 or 50.
Omg season 2 looks hella badass I was actually surprised it still came out w The same Detective, Harry. Will definitely check out Sharp Objects
Yeah can't wait for it :). For sure, it's so similar to The Sinner(though only one episode out but it has a similar vibe/style to it).
Hey, yomomaspimp, just a quick heads-up:
alot is actually spelled a lot. You can remember it by it is one lot, 'a lot'.
Have a nice day!

Good bot
Great show! Just binged on Netflix. Great cast, solid acting, twists & turns all done in with good cinematography. Honestly, best thing I’ve seen on Netflix since Ozark.
Omg. I binge-watched this show today with my friends on a whim and wow I loved it so much! Yes, that scene and the bone-crushing scene were SO hard to watch. Also the sis-sest... ugh honestly one of the most disturbing any of us has watched. We were so intrigued the whole way through, and were excited to hear that there will be a season 2 soon.
I haven't been able to get into Netflix show in a while because I just found it too overwhelming, so I've been sticking to youtube. But this show makes me want to look for shows in the same vein/ caliber. Open to suggestions!
Oh I totally forgot about the bone crushing lol but when I saw Phoebe get her rib cage crushed I was shocked af ! It all made sense after that but damn I was like wtf throughout that whole episode. Also forgot about that sis-sest too lol but tbh I wasn't too shocked I mean she did kiss her lol I liked how despite how much Phoebe was bed ridden she was much more daring than her older sister. Netflix has a LOT of good tv shows like damn I watched so many tv shows on there lol maybe you might like Bates Motel haven't finished watching it sorry I'm rambling lol
Wow.
I just finished the show as well in two sittings. Phenomenal show. I would put it up there as a more straight forward True Detective Season 1. It was fantastic and and Beil crushed it.
Same. Started last night, finished just 10 mins ago. It was actually a satisfying ending. Loved the show so much.
I’ve never really seen anything quite like this, it’s unusual plot just really intrigued me. Can anyone recommend me series that are a bit out of the box?
The killing! Is so much like the sinner. Great suggestion from the person above
The Killing is 1000x better
All these great. End of the f ing world. Loved it
If you liked "End of the F**king World", then watch the movie "I Don't Feel At Home in the World Anymore" on Netflix. It has the same vibe to it.
Thanks so much !
The Night Of - an HBO miniseries.
Amazing!!
Seven Seconds - Netflix
The Missing on Amazon Prime, but only season 2 (it's an anthology so you can start anywhere). Incredible story, very complex with multiple timelines. The main detective has a lot of similarities to Bill Pullman's character. Super satisfying.
Season 1 has some good aspects but a terrible ending.
(Some spoilers ahead)

I really enjoyed both seasons, but I liked season 1 better.

For me, it was brilliant that everything got answered by the last episode, no bs cliffhangers so they get renewed. It was refreshing that the mistery wasn't something supernatural but purely psychological. The fucked up childehood that the protagonist and her sister had, and in top of all, the hell released in a small town.

Any other shows that has some of this aspects currently been streamed on netflix?
Give Sharp Objects (HBO) a try. Or Broadchurch (its on netflix) is also an exceptionally well made show.
If your looking for more of a gritty show watch Mindhunter on netflix.
So many good shows that are kinda similar in different ways.
Hope this helps!
Totally forgot Haunting on Hill House!
True detective
##The Killing!!!
Wait, there's a season 2 of The Sinner?! I loved Season 1 and binged it all in 2 days!
Hints:

I can't find the answer so I figured I'd go to the place with the most knowledgeable fans--
So right before the garlic eating scene, they find that dead body and assume there's a vampire hiding inside with them. Smoke also visibly smells the blood on the floor. They trick you into thinking it's Slim but he recovers and they never really talk about it again. I can't find out why he smelled the blood or who actually killed that guy. Did anyone else notice this? I asked my wife but she missed it too.
No one killed that guy. He had a fight before the whole vampire mess started, during the card game, and got hurt. That is, where the blood is from. The guy is not dead though, he is passed out drunk, lying in a puddle of red wine and his blood and they realised it, after he woke up, when they threw him out. That is the scene where he was snatched by Cornbread and killed/ turned.
Thank you so much. I googled that half a dozen different ways trying to figure out what i missed. I'd give you 2 up votes if I could.
No problem, happy to help. First time, I didn't really keep track on that guy either, since he was a minor character, but I watched the movie a few times by now.
That guy was played by a buddy of mine!
hey
the story sounds very interesting. i like series about killers like - dexter, the night of.
but i see alot of bad reviews of people saying its garbage etc etc.... and some say it a masterpiece.
anyone here saw it and can give me an honest opinion? my problem is if im not sure a show is good i wont be able to concentrate lol.
It's not really much like Dexter at all, but it was a really good story/plot in my opinion. Worth a watch, but if you're not into it after the first three or four episodes, you probably won't be into it by the end.
It is not a serial killer story like a normal one but if you like psychological mysteries you will like this.
Yes. It was a good show, enjoyable and I’m looking forward to the next season coming on Netflix.
The next season is nowhere near as good, just finished it last night and it definitely doesn't hold up.
I enjoyed the second season all the way until the big twist at the end. Just made me squirm.
Agreed it was alright. Definitely watch season 1 though OP.
ageee 100% on this.
Watch THE SINNER online free. It is finally available for streaming. Enjoy it!
Season 1 is, don't waste your time on season 2.
Yes, definitely good.
Season 1 is outstanding, the other seasons really failed to live up to the first one in my opinion.
I really enjoyed all the seasons, especially the last one.
Only season 1 is worth watching. The rest are bad
This is simply not true.
That was the case for me too. Watched season 1 and fell i love. Forced myself to go through season 2, season 3 I quit half way through episode 1.
Season 1 taught me to never play the song “Huggin & Kissin” on a beach ever.
My wife and I really enjoy this show, I thought the first two seasons were great and third was okay but still worth a watch. Bill Pullman puts in an excellent performance.
Heyy, I just watched this movie a couple hours ago and I've been thinking about a lot of lines from the movie and want to read them again to make sure that I'm saying them right. The writing is so great. Can anyone find the script for me? I tried looking for it and maybe it's too early to get a script since it was just released but please let me know 😭😭
Me low-key searching the movie script cause I can’t understand southern accent
Lol same boat. I had an issue mainly in the first half the film. Especially for Slim. He was fine in the second half but the first half it was really tricky to get what he was saying. Only clue was the replies from Stack and Sammie to get what he even said. I got the rough idea of his monologue about his friend, but would have been better if there were a bit of subtitles.
As someone with Auditory Processing Disorder, I was struggling in the theatre tonight.
See if they offer hearing assisted viewing or captioned viewings. Usually the theatre website tells if & when those are offered.💪🏾I don’t have APD & I struggled a couple times too.
😆
Your best bet is when they submit it for awards season unless the script gets published as a book.
Ahh okay, thank you!
Loved this movie so much! Hope he does more in this universe. Nice to meet you, Mr. Coogler (he mentioned he made this movie to introduce himself to all of us :-)
bookmarking bc i just saw it & i neeeed to read it too...
Same!
Has anyone found the script yet?
