Filming Locations in Nova Scotia
"The Sinner," particularly its later seasons, was filmed extensively in Nova Scotia, Canada. Key locations include Dartmouth and Lunenburg, as well as various spots along the South Shore [1:1]
[1:2]. Dartmouth's Portland Street was notably used for some scenes, with other potential filming sites including Prince Street apartments, Dominion Diving, and possibly Kings Wharf
[1:4]. The choice of Nova Scotia over Maine, where the story is set, suggests logistical or financial advantages
[1:7].
Local Engagement and Impact
The filming of "The Sinner" in Nova Scotia has generated local interest and excitement, with residents spotting familiar locations on screen [1:6]. The presence of such productions in the area is seen as a positive development, potentially paving the way for more film projects to choose Nova Scotia as a filming location in the future
[1:11].
Plot Context and Setting
In the season being discussed, the plot involves a retired Detective Ambrose living in Maine who becomes involved in a murder mystery concerning a lobster fisherman [1:3]. This storyline aligns well with the coastal settings available in Nova Scotia, making it an ideal stand-in for Maine.
Overall, "The Sinner" utilized a variety of picturesque and practical locations within Nova Scotia, which not only provided a fitting backdrop for the series' narrative but also contributed to the region's growing reputation as a viable option for major productions.
Portland street was closed down from Alderney to Prince yesterday morning, got to watch Bill Pullman run a few scenes, then saw them doing a few scenes at Dominion Diving along the waterfront trail later on.
Pretty cool to see these huge Netflix productions using our city.
It's mostly filming in Lunenburg and throughout the South Shore. This week just so happens to be filming in Metro.
Yup, I heard that, still cool to see it in the neighbourhood.
I don’t know much about this seasons plot but it involves a now retired Det. Ambrose living in Maine, and he gets pulled into a murder mystery involving a lobster fisherman, should be right up our alley haha
Ooh nice! I think just the fact it’s filmed here and spotting all the locations would be enough to keep me entertained even if it was a shit plot lol
I'm excited to pick out local places in the next season.
For sure, I’m not sure how many they did in Dartmouth cause they were staging off Canal St, but I’d say Prince St apts, Portland St (Tate Shop, Canteen, maybe Sprout Therapy), Dominion Diving and possibly Kings Wharf might make appearances just based off what I saw.
Most of it is being shot out of HRM. They are in town Monday And Tuesday but that’s all as far as I am aware.
I'm wondering if this will be a regular thing or if it's only a temporary blip for productions looking for relatively safe and/or available regions to film in.
I'd love to get the industry back to the 2010-ish point where several major productions were filming in NS at any given time.
Hopefully a more regular thing. I think every production of this size that has success in the area will make it more likely for similar ones to consider working here. They picked NS over actually filming in Maine (which is where the season is based), so cost and location wise it must have won out.
Funny, I liked seasons 1 and 3, but not so much season 2.
Season 1 was one of the best TV shows I’ve ever seen. Season 2 was okay. Season 3 just didn’t really do it for me
My wife was working on set for a couple weeks when they were filming in Lunenburg. Very cool.
“Mom can I watch Sinners?”
“We have Sinner at home.”
What an Irish Vampire might look like.
I think you were supposed to watch Sinner5, the fifth movie in the Sinner franchise
Sinn5r: Too Sin, Too Furious
Personally I though Sinn3r: Tokyo Drift was the peak of the franchise.
Where all other franchises were shitting with each sequels, the audience ‘plead the fifth’, only for this one.
I thought it was a tennis bio-pic.
I think I watched the wrong movie too, what is this?
No this is the right one
“Fuckin McNulty…”
Hiding in the bushes again....
I’m just giggling imagining mcnulty singing and dancing outside Avon’s club demanding them open up for him.
He really is the body of an American
Jamie in S3 is wearing Iron Rangers throughout. Looks like amber 8111 and maybe a black pair too. A few good close up shots too! Maybe the director is a fan?
I noticed this earlier today! I'm convinced all the boot porn I have been consuming lately is starting to get the better of me.
I just noticed this too the other night haha. Also spotted them in the show Virgin River
I’ve never really seen anything quite like this, it’s unusual plot just really intrigued me. Can anyone recommend me series that are a bit out of the box?
The Night Of - an HBO miniseries.
Amazing!!
All these great. End of the f ing world. Loved it
If you liked "End of the F**king World", then watch the movie "I Don't Feel At Home in the World Anymore" on Netflix. It has the same vibe to it.
Thanks so much !
Seven Seconds - Netflix
The killing! Is so much like the sinner. Great suggestion from the person above
The Killing is 1000x better
The Missing on Amazon Prime, but only season 2 (it's an anthology so you can start anywhere). Incredible story, very complex with multiple timelines. The main detective has a lot of similarities to Bill Pullman's character. Super satisfying.
Season 1 has some good aspects but a terrible ending.
She's so gorgeous, a queen
Josh touched downed, field goaled, and got a Super Bowl with this one, my glass raised at your wedding man 🥂
😍😍😍
She’s so amazing
god took his sweet time with Hailee
How'd you meet him?
At an event in LA
To Live and Sin in LA.
So is it "MIIIIIIIIIIIIII"?
Interesting name. Estonian?
Ahaha precisely
That is awesome!
Looks way worse now
If this movie doesn’t sweep the Oscars I will personally get very mad about it on Reddit
It’s barely June you haven’t even seen the vast majority of “Oscar movies” that will come out this year.
Sure but none of them will be Sinners.
Not OP but Sinners is the best movie I’ve seen in a very long time. I’d be very surprised if see another film this year that I felt was more deserving of best screenplay, and take your pick of all the other awards because the movie itself is a masterpiece.
There's a feature about this film in this month's American Cinematographer. Can't wait to read it.
Just saw it last night. Absolutely awesome movie.
Same here. I don't ever watch trailers, and I was absolutely not expecting that. Fantastic film.
The Dublin song is quite good.
Love it! https://youtu.be/Iapw_hbyBjE?si=i4CdD-Lql0axJ9vi
It's an old Irish song but done really well here - I love that the soundtrack is a mix of traditional folk and blues and original music and I can't really tell which is which for the most part
It looked like she was casually holding that massive camera at first glance. Looking forward to finally watching this soon.
Saw it last week, enjoyed it more than I thought I would as I'm not typically a horror fan - but it's not really a horror film of the sort I tend to think of.
And the music's great, obviously.
Engaging movie
Got ‘em! 12pm showing at Regal Irvine today
I went to Citywalk and Nadia
We live close to Citywalk but made the drive to Irvine because we couldn’t find tickets for 2 weeks now. Highly recommend Regal Irvine! It’s worth the drive
Got the last one at Metreon last night because I asked the employee scanning tickets and she said she might have one more 🙏 apparently nobody had asked for them and I didn't see anyone near my seats with them.
Nice! It definitely never hurts to ask lol
Got both at city walk 🫶
Awesome
so jealous went there yesterday at 3:30 and they were completely out :(
We were going to go yesterday but my bf sent them a DM on Instagram and they also posted on their story that they wouldn’t get more in until today so we exchanged our tickets for today!
I only watched the first season bc of Jessica Biel, but it was pretty good. (She actually re tweeted me!)
Max. Medina. Maaaax Medina.
The actor is also in the current season of East New York (cop show) on CBS
