K-Pop Idols Who Have Starred in K-Dramas

Idols Turned Actors

Many K-pop idols have successfully transitioned into acting, starring in various K-dramas. Some notable examples include Cha Eunwoo from Astro, who is well-known for his roles in dramas and is considered a household name [3:3]. D.O. from EXO has also received recognition for his acting skills [4:6]. Other idols such as IU (solo), Ok Taecyeon (2PM), Suzy (Miss A), and Jinyoung (GOT7) have made significant impacts in the drama industry [4:1].

Successful Idol Actors

Several idols have become successful actors while maintaining their music careers. Minho from SHINee, Joy and Yeri from Red Velvet, and Sungjae from BTOB are examples of idols who continue to be active in their groups while pursuing acting [3:1][3:4]. Kim Sejeong, formerly of IOI and Gugudan, is praised for her dual success as both a singer and actress [4:11].

Idols in BL Dramas

A number of idols have starred in Boys' Love (BL) dramas. Jiwoong from ZEROBASEONE appeared in "Kissable Lips" and "Roommates of Poongduck 304" [2:1][5:5]. Jaechan from DKZ was in "Semantic Error," which he starred alongside former KNK member Seoham [5:3]. Other idols such as Hyuk, Leo, and N from VIXX have participated in gay dramas [5:2].

Idols with Diverse Acting Roles

Some idols have ventured into diverse roles beyond typical K-dramas. For instance, Park Junhee from A.C.E played the lead in the BL drama "Tinted With You" [5:4]. Additionally, Moonbin (Astro) played a gay character in the drama "Moment at 18" [2:5]. These roles showcase the versatility and range of idols in the acting field.

Recommendations Beyond the Discussions

While these discussions highlight many successful idol actors, there are countless others contributing to the growing intersection of K-pop and K-drama. Exploring platforms like Netflix or Viki can provide additional insights into the latest dramas featuring idols.

ORIGINAL POST

Is there any kdrama actor or actress that later turned into an idol? I know there's a lot of the vice versa where kpop idol becomes famous actor like cha eunwoo (astro), Kyungsoo (Exo), park jinyoung(got7), Kim sejeong(IoI and gugudan), Kim Jisoo (BP), my queen IU and more. I was wondering if any kdrama actor made it big as an idol

Maybe ZB1's Kim Jiwoong?

He was originally an idol before acting though, and got to acting most likely through the idol industry so I wouldn't count him in this specific scenario!

Yeah he debuted as a kpop idol in 2016 and he didn't start acting until 2021, so you can't use him as an example.

I feel like Cha Eunwoo has to be one of the most prime examples of this. Very successful household name as an actor and whatever else he's doing at any given time, more well-known than Astro at this point, and still active in Astro and very dedicated to the group (as far as this non-Aroha knows, I'm not too familiar with them).

Seolhyun was in AOA

SNSD's actress line are YoonA, Seohyun, Yuri and Sooyoung. YoonA is, obviously, the biggest name, but all 4 are reasonably successful (lead drama and movie roles, awards etc).

Idols turned actors

Posted by cakoikawin · in r/kpopthoughts · 3 years ago

Currently watching the king’s affection and Rowoon’s acting is so natural and if I didn’t know he’s from SF9, I would’ve guessed that he debuted as an actor. Same with Chani for Sky Castle, I did not know SF9 before then and I was curious about him and was shocked that he’s actually an idol as well.

So I am wondering who are y’all favorite idols turned actors? or vice versa :)

One of my absolute favorites is Park Hyungsik who debuted as an idol with ZE:A (along with Im Siwan and Kim Dongjun, among others). He was my bias in ZE:A, too. And while they didn't particularly flourish as idols due to S-word Empire, he's been acting up a storm. I'm so happy to see him back and active in dramas since his enlistment finished.

And of course, I also love Eunwoo. People might think he's a one-note actor, but he's actually not. I'll leave it at that since his acting has always been highly controversial and I'm not really up to debate about it. :)

Stairways to Heaven starring Choi Ji Woo was the BLUEPRINT for kdramas. That drama explored every trope you can think of! Lost memories, forgotten identity, evil stepmom and stepsis, handsome chaebol fiance, studying in america overseas, childhood sweethearts, car accidents, tragic ending, cancer, love triangle, poor girl-rich man, etc!

I watched it religiously as a kid! Lol.

15& was a duo under JYP which included Jamie (Park Jimin) and Yerin Baek. Both of them have become far more successful and well known after leaving JYP and going solo, Baek Yerin especially has a pretty great little niche in indie music carved out for herself (please listen to tellusaboutyourself if you haven’t already, one of the best albums of 2021 from any genre) but Jamie has certainly done a good job especially as a features artist.

I bet your answer could also be found in the super nugus. there was a group i saw that was made up of twitch streamers and if i had to guess id bet theyre all more popular as streamers than in their temporary group. I dont even remember their name at this point so i know this isnt a very helpful answer.
