TL;DR The consensus among fans seems to lean towards Belly eventually choosing Conrad, although there is significant debate and speculation about her journey and the timing of this decision.
Character Dynamics and Fan Preferences
Many fans express a strong preference for Belly to end up with Conrad, citing his integrity, loyalty, and sentimental nature [3:2]
[3:3]. Some fans are officially "Team Conrad" and believe that Belly is destined to be with him based on typical narrative tropes
[4:2]. However, others feel that Belly's character development has been inconsistent, particularly in showing her affection for Conrad
[5:2].
Narrative Development and Speculation
There is considerable discussion regarding how Belly's romantic choices might unfold. Some fans argue that Belly should take time to be single and focus on herself before making a choice between Conrad and Jeremiah [2:1]
[2:5]. Others suggest that Belly's feelings for Conrad are still prevalent, even if not overtly expressed, and anticipate that she will eventually choose him
[5:4]
[5:5].
Potential Plot Twists
Fans speculate about various plot twists that could influence Belly's decision. Some suggest that external events, such as family issues or academic pressures, might impact her choice [5:3]. There is also a notion that Belly's relationship with Conrad might evolve through dramatic moments and realizations
[5:6]
[5:7].
Criticism of Current Storytelling
Several fans criticize the storytelling approach, feeling that the show has not adequately developed Belly's emotional depth or her interactions with Conrad [5:6]
[5:9]. They argue that the series has focused too much on other characters, leaving Conrad as a side character and diminishing the excitement around Bonrad
[5:10].
Overall, while there is a strong inclination towards Belly ultimately choosing Conrad, fans are divided on how this will be portrayed and whether it will align with their expectations for a compelling love story.

Belly!!
Cam
Belly
Belly!! Cmon guys it’s her show 🥲
Cam
if Cam wins it’s going to be a big fight between him and Conrad.
I don't think we'll only get 3 seasons, so I would love for Belly to be honest with herself and Jer and say either, 1, she's not ready for a relationship or 2, she wants to fight for Conrad. I'd prefer the former actually, the girl needs to take a break and fight for her grades instead of brothers. Also, Conrad is likely going to Stanford, so a relationship between them would be too stressful.
If Belly chooses Jeremiah now, I don't see how Bonrad won't be endgame tbh.
Ok I’m obv a Jelly shipper and I’ve been thinking about smth. I think Belly should’ve chosen Conrad now as well. Because let’s be real, she can’t just suddenly be in love with Jeremiah in a span of 2/3 days after saying “ oh I love Conrad I’ll never love anyone like him”. Like yeah she’s attracted to Jeremiah and has some feelings but homegirl still has Conrad in her mind.
I wish she chooses Conrad now just like how Elena chose Stefan when she had to make the choice the first time around ( Stelena here lolz) and then after she chooses Conrad she has more moments with Jeremiah and realises how not compatible she is with Conrad and falls for Jere more so it sounds more believable that she’s deeply IN LOVE with Jere when she switches brothers for the final time. ( This is if they make jelly endgame which is in my dreams ) It won’t be as messy as it looks like right now. I also really hate the fact that I know what’s going to happen like I can’t NOT see the spoilers, they’re on twitter, reddit , instagram, TikTok, comment sections, you name it. I wanna watch something spontaneous.
And yeah thinking about it now, I think there’s a big possibility they get more than 3 seasons especially with how the fandom is actually growing , it’s keeping people on edge. Amazon prime isn’t known for milking their shows like the CW but I think they have an opportunity in their hands to give us more without ruining it. 5 seasons would be soo good tbh, don’t know if it’s that possible. But 4 seasons seems believable, especially since I heard that the third book was so rushed so it would be great to stretch it out a bit so the show doesn’t seem rushed.
I honestly wouldn’t even care ( yes I would, i want more eps ) if the show ended with 3 seasons. I just AM dreading them butchering Jeremiah’s character to make Bonrad endgame. Cz honestly Idgaf if belly ends up with Conrad. Not my personal preference and I love jelly and want them to be endgame. But if that’s what Jenny Han wants to put out, I’m onboard with it. It’s her story. I just don’t want to see my favourite character get hurt to justify the popular ship. So if they plan on doing that. I don’t even want Belly to get with Jeremiah at all tbh. Just let the poor dude move on. But that’s obv not gonna happen bc where’s the drama if they don’t emotionally put someone through heartbreak in these dramas lol.
she can’t just suddenly be in love with Jeremiah in a span of 2/3 days after saying “ oh I love Conrad I’ll never love anyone like him”.
Exactly! Either she stays alone or she somehow gets Conrad back. If she chooses Jer now I think we can say bye to the Jelly endgame (this is so upsetting I can't even stomach the thought) bc she can't go back to Conrad and back to Jeremiah again.
realises how not compatible she is with Conrad
This would be so ideal, I'd sell a kidney to have it happen. It's more realistic, more respectful and can generate the right amount of drama without butchering either of their characters. Because so far Belly has idealized Conrad based on idk what. He's a nice guy and sexy too, but that doesn't mean their personalities are made for long-term compatibility. I'd honestly prefer to have Conrad in love with Belly for eternity (because at least he doesn't have rose-colored glasses regarding her), while she moves on to an eternity with Jer.
I don’t even want Belly to get with Jeremiah at all tbh.
Same. I think we should think up hints that it won't end well for Jer's character. Like, if they have Belly pick him while denying all her feelings for Conrad by the end of this season, it's a sign that they'll either butcher his character or break his heart so stupendously to justify a Bonrad endgame.
where’s the drama if they don’t emotionally put someone through heartbreak in these dramas
I sacrifice Belly to the drama gods. They should leave my boy Jer alone
I totally agree. I think it’s obvious for now that Bonrad is endgame. As much as I hate to admit that, it’s the truth. For once I just wish my preferred ship is endgame. I never seem to like this generations popular ships, I hate toxicity what can I say lol. All we could do is just hope Jenny has a change of heart and understands this would make it fair for both ships to have their endgames since Bonrad already had theirs in the books. And I don’t care that “ they’re not staying true to the books” “ then they shouldn’t call it an adaptation”Umm??? Just bc smth happening in some book over a decade ago doesn’t mean they should follow the same direction, last time I checked, this ain’t no religious scripture. Also, in the show it’s way more obvious which one is the better and healthier couple no matter how much they try to convince us homie is manipulative like yeah right.
I really hope they don’t character assassinate Jeremiah like they did in the books. It was cruel. I haven’t read them so I’m not biased. But I just won’t really watch if that’s what they’re planning on doing, and it’s not me boycotting the show, it just won’t be my cup of tea since they’ll be ruining a loveable character just so the older bro gets the girl so all the fangirls can fantasize. I’m good thanks. I’ll happily just end this season and gaslight myself that it’s the series finale.
Everything you guys just said is so real. That would be perfect 🥲
I completely agree with this and the replies. If Jelly has even the smallest chance of being endgame, it wouldn't make sense for them to date now. We need the prolonged will they-wont they. And Belly needs to completely get over Conrad if we want her to be Jeremiah in the healthy way that he deserves.
God I hope Jenny Han listens to us lol. There's a chance to write a love story for the ages, not something toxic that scars some characters and likely passes on the wrong message about love to the audience
Right, exactly! She could change the trope of ending up with the moody emotionally unavailable mysterious guy and give us a healthy, communicative relationship which is also passionate and intense. I don't have a lot of hope but maybe 10%.
If it was up to me I would make belly single for this season to recover from Conrad and then choose jere and that be her final decision. This flip flop is giving me whiplash
Yess!!!
For the drama I want her to be single, get with Conrad for a bit then realize she loves Jeremiah and have one big confession to win him back.
But she really needs to be single rn, especially by the end of this season (this would also give us at least 4 seasons total). Girl needs to study and decide where she's going for college ffs
Yep. If I want endgame I want Nelly to take a break but keep in touch with both. Then go to finch next year with Jeremiah. And then get together
This would be the healthy way but the teen drama of the flip flopping is def what’s gonna happen😭
NOT who is best for Belly or who you ship her with. Just for you personally. Would you go for Conrad or Jere? Why?
Conrad 1000%
Integrity, loyalty, kind, loving, sentimental, hard working
Conrad in book 3 is just *chefs kiss*
For real ❤️
ouiii tout à fait d'accord
I agree with you
Conrad and it’s not even close.
Conrad 🧡🧡🧡
A grown Conrad. Which is, fortunately, what I married.
Sorry, forgot the why. I’m really drawn by quiet, introspective men who I can have deep conversations with and who seem like they are stoic but are incredibly loving and loyal to the people they care about. I don’t like life of the party type of guys, it’s just not for me but I can appreciate it sometimes in friendships. I like witty banter and have no problem being patient and open if my husband needs to internally process things.
None tbh. they both have their issues. If I’d to pick I’d go with cameron.
I love me some Cam Cameron!!!
Yeah. Belly is so lucky to be able to hang out with Cam. Belly is the problem.
same as title. i was always 50-50 but after watching more clips and rewatching half of season1, its quite clear who belly is destined to be with.
Edit: Team Bonrad****
I mean it's obvious from s1 esp if you know these tropes. Bonrads story isn't anything knew it's been done in media many times
Yep I'm still rooting for him and belly though
I’m over this season. I know Bonrad is endgame, but does Belly even like Conrad? If so, we’ve barely seen it and she’s certainly done nothing than maybe two minutes of showing any emotion. Just go be with Benito. One episode isn’t going to make up for this season. Conrad, go on to Brussels, stay besties w Agnes and live your best life. I release you.
We don’t see them together like Christmas 2.0 or anything but this season has show us many times that she does love him. Yes, she isn’t acting on it because she was engaged to Jerry already and now in Paris is fresh off a canceled wedding, but it’s been made clear many times this season that she loves him.
There were plenty of moments in the last two episodes where they could have shown Belly yearning for him, but no we got nothing. Despite all these amazing moments (i cried in almost all of these scenes), I’m simply indifferent to their ending now. It feels forced to me- just to have the same ending as the book.
It almost feels like Belly’s character is incapable of feeling two things at the same time- she gets so wrapped up in one emotion that everything else gets sidelined. She can find herself in Paris but also yearn for what could have been with Conrad. When she was with Jere, that was all she was. She gave up Paris so easily for him. And now it feels like if she even thinks about Conrad, she’ll be losing herself. What bs is that
Zero. Not an emotion about the letters or even the box. Her letter to him was dull. I think they’ll change it and she will choose Paris dude.
Thank you. I loved episode 10 and it’s clear Belly has never forgotten Conrad. He is always there at the back of her mind.
Omg the title is so funny but sooo true like I get there's a lot of glances and slo-mos from Belly this season but dammit its like the second or third last episodes of the entire show couldn't we get some inner thoughts or actual words from Belly atp??? I cant believe we will only get one declaration of love from Belly(if we even get that) the entire show.
Also, when she is getting her hair cut and they say it’s to new beginnings and then it jumps to Conrad my thought was, dang maybe he shouldn’t go. She’s living her best life and he’s bringing her old life that she tried escape w him.
I had a similar thought. I wonder if he goes there and catches a glimpse of her happy (or with Benito) and decides to leave. Then, we see that it’s a friendly gathering (and even Benito is just a friend now), but Conrad’s already gone.
I agree with the theory that her dad may have a heart attack (as foreshadowed by the weird emphasis on his heartburn) and wonder if 1. that brings Belly back to the states and/or 2. Doc Conrad helps in his recovery in such a way that prompts a reconnection with Belly.
At this point I just want Conrad to be happy. He keeps the Polaroid in his kitchen drawer and doesn’t even get a Christmas text from the girl he loves 😭 Connie be happy!
I know! 10 episodes of depressed Conrad.
This could have worked if they actually spent the entire summer together but what we got in the show was little scenes here and there of them and then the majority was Belly trying to avoid Conrad. Like they spent more time apart than together that summer. Unlike in the books. Add to that of us nit getting Belly's inner POV and it's such a nothing burger. The only good content was Conrad's POV episode and again Conrad was doing the heavy lifting again.
I think the makers are jelly shippers. They're are making it up by giving Gavin a lot of screen time, more than necessary & Conrad is a side character atp. They are giving us bonrad but it doesn't feel sweet. They've managed to take away the excitement and thrill.
Free Conrad from Belly's clutches!
Let's be honest, Belly is irrational and selfish. If YOU were in her position, which brother would you choose? And why is it Jeremiah? 😊
I would pick neither of them tbh, but if I had to choose, Conrad because I like people with direction.
If im being honest, If I was choosing I’d choose Conrad, but season 1 jeremiah up to the fireworks was really close in the race. Season 2 Jeremiah reminds me of season 1 Steven. Too insecure and that would eventually drive me insane. I love that Conrad is good looking but doesn’t know it that he is smart and athletic (a real plus for me cause I play alot of sports still), he’s caring and compassionate and tries to improve himself.
Not being able to change a tire was was pretty 😕 It’s for looks? Get out of here lmao you did not really think that J?
I’d be changing his oil for him or getting him unstuck after I dragged him out to go mudding/wheeling
Huh? I don’t understand what you mean about changing a tire?
I like intellectual guys who have this quiet soft side to them. I love that Conrad remembers small things about her and what she likes. I love that he’s this closet nerd that collects stamps and had a chemistry set and has goals he wants to chase after. I like that he recognizes he can’t give Belly the love she needs at that time and walks away, making every effort to grow from the past. This to me shows a lot of maturity which is sexy. Conrad ultimately turns into major husband material in my opinion. Fixing up the summer house, making sure it’s stocked with food for he and Belly in book 3… going to her mom to try to convince Laurel to go to the shower after seeing how upset Belly was (with no agenda attached and not gaining anything for himself out of it)… writing her letters and putting the ball back in her court while making his feelings and intentions clear… Conrad all the way 🥲
Also I’m a sucker for dark hair and dark eyes lol.
How do you get downvoted in a question like this??? 🤦🏻♀️
Because there’s a lot of people on here downvoting anything positive about Conrad sadly
YAY ME TOO
…. I wouldn’t mess with both of them that’s for sure
Honestly I’m pretty sure the majority of the people who are team x or team y is because that’s who they would pick for themselves anyway. So… it’s sort of obvious.
I’ve been going back and forth on a thread on the main since yesterday, and it’s really bothering me the way some claim Jeremiah shouldn’t have ever told belly how he feels in season 1 because Conrad almost kissed her. It’s like he has dibs on her, and this viewpoint really bothers me. Someone even went as far to say Jere should’ve asked Conrad’s permission.
They said you don’t go after your brothers girl, and claimed it was like Jere going after Shayla in season 1 🤯 I said what? Lol. Bonrad wasn’t anything in season 1. Belly wasn’t Conrad’s girl. They didn’t even date. And it is in no way shape or form the same as Shayla and Steven, who were in an exclusive relationship.
Like I’m sorry what? It’s 2024 and we want a girl to wait around for a guy that rejected her. Jere shouldn’t have interrupted their kiss, but anything that happened after that wasn’t his fault.
Jere interrupted the kiss, belly broke up with Cam for Conrad, Conrad rejected her, she told Conrad she wasn’t waiting on him anymore, THEN, days later, Jere laid his heart out for Belly, respectfully, and she reciprocated. This notion that Conrad has claim on her first and everyone should ask his permission, that jere needed to tell Conrad he liked belly before he even tells belly, or that Conrad somehow has first dibs on belly really grosses me out.
You know, I’m not a big fan of Bonrads and talk a lot of shit, but this is actually a huge issue. To them, Belly is Conrad’s property. Because she had a crush on him, apparently she owes him her undying attention for the rest of her life? And Jeremiah’s feelings are never once taken into consideration, mostly because they can’t stand him simply for being another option for Belly.
Jeremiah knew that Conrad was content to continue dating Nicole after the concert thing. He decided to shoot his shot because he has HIS OWN feelings. They need to let my boy live, damn.
This is literally 99% of what bonrats argue about - Belly has no choice - Conrad had a claim over her because of some damn necklace that relates to a math concept he taught her when she was 10 or something
Jeremiah isn’t allowed to exist or breathe - he shouldn’t even be at the beach house because he’s not a main character and Susannah clearly isn’t his mother either, so he should just disappear and not be allowed to feel anything for anyone or even look at Belly.
Conrad can do or say whatever he wants because ‘infinity’ is the answer to everything- Belly has no right to make any decisions and should wait for Conrad to ‘show growth’ in s3 because only his POV is the correct one and everyone else’s feelings or opinions do not matter
It’s ‘The Summer I Turned Conrad’ show didn’t you realise?!
Bye 🫠
It’s exhausting
I'm glad you feel this way also. It's the same with them saying Belly “cant” be with Jeremiah because she has been with Conrad. Conrad doesn't own Belly because they had sex. It's so gross people actually think that way.
It’s kinda concerning honestly.
I saw a post where they were talking about whether or not Jelly would have sex in S3. I was saying how it would be weird for them to not discuss sex, given the circumstances. And people were like “Jere has no right to talk about Belly’s sex life.”
Um. He’s her boyfriend…? It’s their relationship, their intimacy.
It was weird. Like even if Belly chooses to date another guy, she should only share intimate moments and details with Conrad cause soulmatism
It’s ridiculous it truly is and concerning that people have views like this
The show so far has been sex positive and doesn’t shy away from characters exploring their sexuality and desires
Why would jelly (being in a committed relationship) not want to take the next step? Even if they don’t, it’s not right to assume it’s because of Conrad surely?! That’s odd to me as they all have their own minds and Belly does not belong to Conrad whatsoever 🫤
Jere has no right to judge Belly’s sex life prior to him but if he asks her, she should be honest with him. And it’s not like Belly hasn’t been brutally honest with Jere before. IMO, it would be purposefully out of character if they write Jere being weird about it once he finds out, or to make Belly withhold that information because she knows he’s sensitive about feeling second to Conrad. But if they try to sell it as them not being ready to take their intimacy to that level - well.
Notes are going to have to be stapled on Lola and Gavin’s trailers to not play like they’re about to tear each others’ clothes off in character. It’s just not believable.
But a defining trait of Jeremiah’s character is that he acknowledges Belly as her own person and that her choices and decisions are important too - it’s not the implied ownership that fandom subscribes to Conrad. When he has his voiceover in episode 5 and he’s talking about how Conrad had no right, but then quickly says it wasn’t just him, but Belly had a choice too. Then the rest of the season is him encouraging her to make her choices.
It's so bizarrely colonial to act like Conrad was the first to almost set foot on an undiscovered land and claimed it for all the Conradians from Conradiland and now we have to have a war to see who gets to continue to occupy Belly, as though she is not the original inhabitant of her own personhood.
Edit: but then also, if you do buy that "logic," by their own metric he didn't get off the ship. No flag was planted. Belly was pretty clearly like, "Sir, why don't you settle here, build a township, this is a nice place to live" and he was like, "Nah, I am just going to sit here on the boat."
Yup. He said, there's a storm on the horizon and instead of docking and assessing the situation, I'm going to sail farther away-- but still in site of the mainland- and occasionally, I'll send up flares indicating duress, but will refuse any/all offers for assistance.
I am CRYING
Thank you for saying this. I have had this same argument with the Bonrad’s and it exhausting the circles they talk in. Conrad does not have claim over Belly just because she had a crush on him as a preteen. It’s a very misogynistic way of thinking and takes away from the fact that Belly can make her own choice about who she wants to date. Waiting for Conrad to get his shit together is not her problem and it’s not Jeremiah problem either.
Belly stays in Paris, and ends up with a French guy. She becomes a sports physcologist. Conrad becomes a doctor, lives close to Cousins, and settles down.
I like this, either Conrad ends up close to Cousins or anywhere else really. But I think they all need to find new people and find better versions of themselves. It wouldn’t be like the book, but the book is also YA and the series resonates more with a wider range of age groups. I feel like it would be better for younger girls to see Belly, and everyone else, choose themselves. They all deserve to be happy and just because you were in love at 16 doesn’t mean you need to be together for ever. I’d love to see her chase her dreams and be independent of the boys. And I’d like to see Jeremiah figure out who he is and get out from his dad’s shadow. And I’d like to see Conrad as a kick ass doctor with a partner who pushes and supports him.
And that they all go to therapy. lol
See, this. All I want is to see none of them together. I want them to all go back to being friends and prioritizing the little family they built their entire lives. I want Belly and Jeremiah and Conrad and Stephen to have what their moms had. I want them to bring their families to cousins every year, and I want their kids to play together. If Belly ends up with Conrad or Jere, I think they'd realistically lead miserable lives.
There's no way Conrad is moving back near Cousins if he's not with Belly. He'd stay in California.
Honestly all signs have pointed for it to be Conrad. I just think making it 4 years of belly and jerimiah together makes it really unrealistic that once belly and conrad end up together everything will be fine
Conrad finds someone better
THIS!! Conrad deserves better
Hot take: I refuse to accept any ending where Belly and Conrad don’t end up together. I don’t need a moral lesson, I need the hopelessly romantic ending we were promised in the books. Anything else from Jenny would be such a letdown
Yessss. Like all these people talking about how icky it is😭bro I KNOW. I GET IT. But I don’t CARREEEE. I wish Jenny wouldn’t have had Belly sleep with both of them but it did really make her and Conrad’s relationship seem much more meaningful.
This exactly. Personally I have qualms with the fact that she’s changed it so Belly slept with both brothers (in the book, no sex is what made Jeremiah’s betrayal cut so deep) and the sheer span of the Bellyjere relationship. I don’t really understand why she made it four years long - tbh Belly still being a teenager when they got engaged is a huge part of what made the outrage/frustration so compelling.
I do think because of these changes, Belly will have to be apart from them for atleast a few years for a happy Bonrad reunion to be plausible. We’re going to need both Belly and Jere undergo a ton of character growth, and I hope both of them are shown to finally take accountability.
In my dream scenario, Jeremiah does a lot of inner work and finally works out how he manipulated both Belly and Conrad to get what he wanted years ago. This (and him finding love with someone else) is the only way he could be supportive of them. Then maybe we get a Bonrad reunion at Laurel and John’s wedding?? That would be chefs kiss for me.
And the fact that ending up with Conrad means she went from Conrad to Jere and back to Conrad again. It's so icky. I thought Elena from TVD was insufferable but at least she stuck it out and did not go back and forth the brothers.
Lmao yes or just someone who treats him the way he deserves
I'd like to say that that's Agnes but I like them as friends and the fact that a man and a woman with a past can be good friends
That's why I also wish Steven and Denise could just be friends but that's not possible anymore with all the subtle flirting and sexual tension
Jenny def read that post and all the comments including mine during the strike writing s3 😭💯
I think the biggest thing is what she tried to prove still backfired on her. Conrad still can’t tell belly why he loves her. Belly still doesn’t know why she loves him. Why would she frame it like belly’s asking Conrad these things bc he is the one she specifically has these concerns for and with. Then have her split second decision endgame hinge on just that (childhood/past Susannah influence) with a 3 yr old toddler pic of belly. Suddenly after all this growth she’s still that same little girl who felt unworthy of love back then but now she should let that little girl have love bc she can’t change and that boy who she once thought would never still loves her. “I choose you of my own free will.” Sounds corny and what someone would say if they had free will lol. But that wasn’t even shown not really bc she had it dependant on a freaking toddler pic and stupid bear with a misplaced Taylor song! Don’t forget infinity🙄
>Conrad still can’t tell belly why he loves her. Belly still doesn’t know why she loves him
‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️‼️
This was so hilarious to watch because they both had nothing to say beyond "No, we aren't doing it because of Susannah." Okay so why are you doing it? Why do you like and love each other right now, as two adults, without mentioning a memory from when you were under 18. Why do you, Belly, look at this man right now, and feel love for him? And vice versa. Considering you haven't been in together or talked one-on-one for the better part of 5 years.
Suddenly everyone's on mute. Because Jenny Han was so focused on denying Internet theories instead of creating proof to debunk them. Egg on her face she's so laughable
Maybe she just caved to his relentless contact. Stockholm Syndrome, but Paris.
I think your original argument is very strong and still stands. I refuse to accept retcons from single lines that contradict everything we've been shown the entire series 😂
There is no way Conrad can be sure his feelings for Belly aren't tied up with Susannah. Him saying Susannah began talking about him marrying Belly when he was 6 only makes the argument stronger. For most of his life, during his formative years, he was told this is who his mother wants him to marry. Her subsequent death made that idea more significant, a way to honor her memory. He does try to follow her other plans for him (ex: college on the West Coast), so it makes sense he would want to follow through on this one too. This "connection" Susannah made between him and Belly is so ingrained in him that I don't think he can actually separate what is his own idea and what he was taught from early childhood. He would need some heavy therapy to unpack that and would need to be fully honest with his therapist.
And Belly was exactly right that they wouldn't have started dating that summer if Susannah hadn't been sick. Conrad would probably have still been with his high school girlfriend and would have been at football camp. It's likely that Belly would still have gotten together with Jere, and with no Conrad to interfere, they would have gotten serious more quickly, and one would hope that would have been the end of it for Bonrad 😭
I mean in a way this fits with Conrad parenting her. He wants to take care of her cuz Susannah- this is delusional but does Conrad see taking care of Belly as a way to make up for being gone when Susannah was dying? And the fact that Conrad made moves on her the summer that he knew was Susannah’s last and made moves on her when Susannah wanted him to take her to the Deb ball after he had already rejected her kinda affirms the narrative that Conrad went for Belly for Susannah’s wish fulfillment. I could be totally wrong about this tho. Also- invalidating Jelly was just plain writing BS. Jenny and the cast have said that Belly and Jere were truly in love with each other in a very special way. And if it wasn’t BS- Belly would need serious psychiatric help for using a human being like that for four years.
I think in so many ways he needs/wants her to parent him. He needs her joy and exuberance to give him permission to live a little. To dance, to eat food and fucking enjoy it, to frolic and play. That was the Susannah magic and that strand of DNA must have missed Mr. Pleated Chinos Roofer. He craves the effervescence and seeming-effortlessness of his mother and he can't make it himself, so he energy vampires it from Belly. And she lets him. Blerg.
This is kinda how I felt about Conrad, like he never confronts her or gets into arguments with, she simply doesn’t talk back except those moments in latest episodes. He just accommodâtes her all the time. They aren’t equals per say. People need to grow in relationships through conflicts 😀
it’s so dumb because she cant erase what she already wrote. jelly started their relationship in S1 before they knew about her cancer and conrad was the same one who said he only saw her as a kid until that summer😹 add in susannah being their biggest shipper and while she called jeremiah belly’s brother/best friend. plus conrad bringing her up when he picks belly up in S2.
i also saw this on twitter which just shows how influential susannah was regarding bonrad
I’m really not cooking anything. It’s been on our screens for 3 seasons. Even in this scene, Conrad never names what it is he loves/loved about Belly, even worse now that it’s been 5 years and he doesn’t know her anymore. Belly is still fulfilling her promise to Susannah that she feels indebted to and she’s regressing in order to fulfill that woman’s fantasies from beyond the grave.
This argument will never fit Belly and Jeremiah, no matter how hard Jenny tries, because Belly and Jeremiah hooked up that first summer and had brewing feelings without any knowledge of Susannah. More importantly, Susannah’s dream was never Belly and Jeremiah, it was Belly and Conrad. They didn’t date or love each other because of her and that will never be the case.
Jenny didn’t invalidate Belly and Jere at all, and won’t succeed no matter how hard she tries. This argument still applies to Bonrad and forever will—that’s why she gave them that scene in the finale.
Right bc if that’s the case for bellyjere why would you have belly asking these questions to Conrad? Instead of Jeremiah during their closure scene? (if she would’ve given them a proper one)
Just bc there’s lines of bellyjere telling their unsupportive family that Susannah would’ve been happy for them to get married doesn’t validate any of this crap. That’s Jeremiah’s mother too why can’t he feel like his own mother would’ve wanted him to marry someone she loved deeply like belly? Why can’t belly feel like unlike her mother Susannah would’ve been supportive for her? Belly saying the country club wedding would’ve been a wedding Susannah wanted makes sense bc Susannah liked elaborate things and encouraged belly to the Deb ball at the country club where the wedding is so she’s not wrong! The point about that line is that yeah they obviously shouldn’t be getting married at that time but Jeremiah agreeing to the club wedding was like g said out of wanting belly to have less stress with not have to worry about planning/money as much. It was a no brainer sacrifice. Belly didn’t have to agree he told her they didn’t have to but belly agreed and made a comment about it being a wedding Susannah would’ve wanted oh well.
we literally got a letter this season with her writing bonrad fanfic from the grave but somehow shes the reason bellyjere got together? jenny is just insulting our intelligence at this point😭
And yet, he's somehow immature according to the bonrad fans on main. 🤣
Boyfriend and husband material. Totally the guy who buys the most expensive steak on the menu callously cause he totally wasn’t budgeting for bills last season. I see this mentioned all the time and I don’t see it happening.. sorry.
Stop, I forget about this scene and you’re the second person to remind me. Makes no sense! Our JereBere is way too considerate to ever do that!
It’s so fucking dumb
I’ll be rolling my eyes so damn hard if it happens
Sudgehnsfwgshevrcdhfjrusjs dgurjdvdbdjdgrgr I need someone to treat me how jere treats belly
I need a soft, hot af, passionate, bubbly, friendly, fun boyfriend. For real belly/. why you’d ever let him out of your clutches again Idk girl? You shouldn’t be surprised some girls finding out you dumped him throw themselves all over him. You are the one to blame for the breakup.
Truth
I am still not over this scene! 😭
Xo on repeat for a month now
FRRRRR
What an absolute babe. Omigod. Belly you are insane if you fumble this man for Conrad. I’m sorry I love you but I will never understand you. This would literally be if my sister married her first long term boyfriend who reminds me of Conrad. They had íncredibe chemistry and were crushing on each other all through high school but he was a prick and emotionally hot and cold etc.
If she weren’t married to her Jere bear, I’d be concerned for her. I caught my brother in law reading a book about baby sleep yesterday cause she’s due in a few weeks. Belly come to your senses. Marry your sensitive sweetie not the angsty up and down passion crush
