[3:1]. "Monster" by Naoki Urasawa is another suggestion, praised for its deep psychological elements and exploration of death
[2:3]
[4:1]. "Future Diary" (Mirai Nikki) was mentioned as a lighter alternative with similar themes
[5:1].
Exploring Psychological and Thriller Genres
For those interested in the psychological and thriller aspects of "Death Note," "Parasyte: The Maxim" and "Death Parade" are recommended [4:2]

he also created Thunderbolt Fantasy (série de TV) Fate/Zero (Light Novel + Anime) Kamen Rider Gaim (série de TV) Saya no Uta (Visual Novel) Mahou Shoujo Madoka Magica (Anime) Phantom of Inferno (Visual Novel) Suisei no Gargantia (Anime) Kikokugai - The Cyber Slayer (Visual Novel) Vampirdzhija Vjedogonia (Visual Novel) Zoku Satsuriku no Django -Jigoku no Shoukinkubi- (Visual Novel) Psycho-Pass (Anime)
Kikokugai is... intense.
A faith worse than death for the heroine.
For the heroine? >! I thought she was the one behind it all !<
Oh yeah kamen rider gaim too
Dude, I thought saya no uto was a nich visual novel...
Isn't it like the most popular visual novel?
I’ve noticed a massive shift in it’s popularity in the last 3 or so years. It’s actually kinda cool.
MADOKA MAGICA WHAT.
Angelos armas
Tenshi no Nichou Kenjuu was not created by Gen Urobuchi Tenshi no Nichou kenjuu only has the same art as Saya no Uta because it was drawn by the same person Chuuou Higashiguchi
Sorry my bad
Has anyone got any recommendations for anime like Death Note , One Punch Man and Dragon Ball? It's weird I only like popular anime. Thanks
When I first started watching anime, I watched “Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion” right after finishing Death Note and thought it was the perfect thing to watch after. Very different stories but tonally they are very similar. Also quite a good watch.
Yeah, Code Geass has that Death Note vibe, it's an awesome show
You can watch monster by naoki urasawa
Not good for someone that didn't watch a lot of anime, it's great and one of my favorites with Johan being my favorite antagonist but it does drag out a lot. All worth it for the last arc.
I like all 3 you mentioned so here are a few suggestions:
Attack on Titan, Mob Psycho, My Hero Academia, Naruto / Naruto Shippuden, Vinland Saga, Hunter X Hunter, Demon Slayer
Attack on Titan and Hunter X Hunter being probably the best animes out there. Have fun!
i second this ! Attack on Titan is EVERYTHING !!!
For me it‘s like a movie experience. There‘s really nothing quite like it. Every episode and when I say every I mean every single one of them is good. I can‘t say that about other animes.
Jojos Bizarre Adventure
Are there seasons/movies to that anime?
8 parts in total There are currently 5 parts animated (All based on the orginal manga) I could write an entire paragraph about how great it is however I will spare you your time Its very good I am sure you will enjoy it!
Parts:
1.Phantom Blood
2.Battle Tendency
3.Stardust Crusaders
4.Diamond is unbreakable
5.Golden Wind
(Not animated yet):
6.Stone Ocean
7.Steel Ball Run
8.JoJolion
Yes, there are 5 seasons to it. There’s a few movies, but they’re just recreations of the anime.
Full Metal Alchemist
Full Metal Alchemist Brotherhood
Blue Exorcist
Attack on Titan
Also although not really anime but Avatar and Castlevania are good. All of these are pretty popular and for good reason.
Monster goes a lot into aspects of death and such. Very good read. There’s also an anime, but I read the manga.
try the new game Clair Obscur: Expedition 33, you will enjoy it if you liked death note
I heard there is relight movie
Netflix series
The movie
Live action tv series
The manga itself
Is it any different
Yes it is. Every death note adaptation differs from the source material but the anime and both red-light movies are the most similar to the Manga. There are many Japanese movies, one of the live action shows is Canon to one of them. There is also a musical available on YouTube for free
There’s a Death Note musical that I really enjoy. Jeremy Jordan as Light is absolutely peak
id definitely recommend death parade
Code Geass is VERY similar to Death Note and the main quote the main character always says is "Only those who are ready to be killed should kill". Idk if thats what youre looking for tho
Not a huge anime guy (at least I wasnt for the past 30 years). Until I gave Berserk a shot when the full series was recommended to me on YouTube back in December of last year. It was solid. Took me a few months, but I was finally convinced to give FMAB a shot. That was really solid.
My anime buddies had given me tons of recs as they have all been watching anime for quite sometime. Decided to ignore them this time and give Death Note a shot. Boy was that the right decision. What a show. Had me on the edge of my seat for the entire damn show. Absolute cinema.
Any other similar series to death note? Serious, suspenseful, psychological. I was looking at Monster next. Any thoughts or opinions are appreciated?
Yes try parasyte to maxim its really good
Watch Monster. Such a great, great all around show. There’s a special character in the show that you will absolutely love. This is a top 5 anime of mine.
Code Geass I'm the way that it has the same plot (young man who is given a god like power and uses it to change the world as he wishes), but CG is more about mechas, politics, military and (personally) I think it's better.
I would have given it 9+ rating if Lelouch didn't ended like that ...loved the series tho
But it didn't gave me that intimidating aura and vibe that I got from death note....the art style mind games and battles perfectly synced with the music ahhh.... couldn't pour those feelings in words
Code geass. At least in terms of a protagonist taking on the world with intellect.
Future Diary? I can’t remember the Japanese name, it’s a bit more lighthearted than death not if I recall.
Mirai Nikki (jp name) yea lighthearted didn't gave me those intimidating vibes ...that I was expecting
Death note is special
Indeed
It’s the cat and mouse style intense emotional thriller Killing Stalking is up there, however it is highly sensitive material and truly not for everyone.
The intimidating aura, emotional thrilling, phycological wars, and the killing stuff just goes without saying
Blood C
Trying to get more into anime but the only one I've watched and cared about is death note. Any recommendations for people like me who liked the series?
Attack on Titan
Code Geass
Code Geass? Never heard of it. What's it about?
This guy gets the power to control people when they look into his eyes and uses it to take on a corrupt somewhat nazi like government. Also giant fighting robots
Psycho Pass
Terror in resonance, Future Diary
Steins;Gate
Monster is a great psychological thriller anime
Death Note is my all time favorite anime but so far I've only watched CodeGeass (my second favorite just because I got tired of fanservice and filler but the ending's pretty great) Monster (my third because some episodes are a bit slow but I loved the mystery and detective feel to it) Steins Gate (4th just because I spent the first few episodes lost but I loved when the conflict unfolded) and Attack on Titan (I didn't like this one that much cause they repeat the same monologue a lot and by the second season it feels like they're going slow on purpose). Overall I loved 4 of the 5 I've watched but my favorite's DeathNote because each and every episode brought something important to the story, the conflict was intriguing, the suspense kept me on edge and the main characters were quite memorable. So based on this, can anyone please recommend me an interesting anime? If this isn't the right sub to ask this do let me know.
Okay, you have to try Kaiji
It's a true masterpiece and better than all those that you mentioned after DeathNote. It's really really good and involves deep psychological battles, the depth and seriousness is of the same level as death note. I can't recommend any anime more, it's really awesome. It's underrated due to its art style, but please try it.
Oh, never heard of this one either but it sounds like my kind of anime so I'm gonna give it a try, thank you!
Please do, and give your feedback
Did you check it out
Code Geass
Didn't you read the text
You should watch Death Parade, it's very emotional and deep, I loved it
Hmm, never heard of it, I'll give it a watch for sure, thanks!
{Kaiji}
Cowboy Bebop, Fullmetal Alchemist (you can watch both versions) and Hunter x Hunter
Banana Fish (action, suspense, and a crime drama) or Shin Sekai Yori (another darker epic, but with a supernatural setting) come to mind as series that feel a bit like Death Note.
I answered a question like this a few months ago as a matter of fact. I'll just copy some of my answers from that. I'll provide links for all canon material. DM me for any other links you want. Remember, manga reads right to left.

There's a live action Japanese show. It alters a lot of the plot and changes some characters and their personalities (for example, Near is introduced earlier on and Mello is Near's puppet).
The Japanese live action movies. They have good casting for L and it has an alternate ending. Near and Mello don't exist here so if you hate them, you should really like these 2 movies. There are two other movies that don't cover the actual plot of Death Note. One that centers on L and another that focuses on multiple Kiras.
The terrible Netflix movie. It's awful, I wouldn't recommend watching it. Light and L are complete buffoons.
Is the novel good?
It is! It introduces a few plot inconsistencies, but other than that it's a good read.
I second this (especially the part about the Netflix movie, did you know there are plans for a second one?) and I would add the novel 'L change the world' (as I haven't watched the movie it's adapted from). Afaik it's set during the time of the second movie 'DN - The Last Name' and is about L vs. bioterrorists and their virus.
Not an anime but if u like watching the life of a smart person then I recommend rick and morty if u haven’t alr seen it. As a dumb person i like watching shows with smart pro/antagonists like L,Light and rick
As far as the anime itself goes that is the end. There is however, a prequel novel called Deathnote: Another Note and couple of manga one shots that serve as short sequels to the original manga, which is more or less exactly the same as the anime in terms of story.
Hey I'm glad you enjoyed it! The usual ones I see recommended on here for having something similar to Death Note include...Monster, Code Geass, Promised Neverland, Psychopass, Death Parade...but tbh from what I've watched, none of them are alot "like Death Note", they just share certain qualities. Death Note is the top of its style imo but that's why I'm here on this sub lol
Completely different and unrelated kinds of shows, Clannad is my favorite romantic comedy, Rurouni Kenshin is my favorite shounen. Fullmetal Alchemist is very were well known and popular too. Insert endless list here. Etc, etc. They're all different genre but still all great. Depends if you wanna expand your palette or find things that are similar.
I wouldnt support rurouni kenshin since the author is a convicted pedophile : /
Attack on Titan, My Hero Academia, Pokemon Journeys, One Punch Man, Demon Slayer
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED YOU’LL HAVE NO RAGRETS
None of these are like death note, but still good to watch. Except my hero academia.
These are nothing like death note
My guy stop being a cuck and realize that he asked for recommendations to watch next, who cares if they aren’t similar to DN? They are fantastic and worth the watch, up to OP if he wants to give them a chance or not. Even if they aren’t similar to DN , they are still good anime recommendations.
Nothing is like Death Note. OP just asked for recommendations, not Death Note clones.
Is pokemon journey enjoyable without watching the rest of the anime? As a great pokemon games and manga fan, I tried watching the anime from episode 1, but dropped after 20 episodes, too fucking childish and dumb and no sense compared to the games and the manga. I heard great things about journey though, is it that good?
I think it’s worth noting that Death Note is one of the highest-rated anime series ever made. In my personal opinion its the best. It’s extremely popular, even with people who don’t usually like anime. It was the first anime I watched (besides Pokémon and Yu-Gi-Oh!) I still haven’t found an anime that topped it, even popular ones like Attack On Titan (which I didn’t end up enjoying) Jujutsu Kaisen, My Hero Academia etc. So I’m just forewarning you that not many anime come close. Ones I have enjoyed (but aren’t similar) are: Demon Slayer, Castlevania, Seven Deadly Sins, Sword Art Online, Naruto, Clannad, Love Hina, Fruits Baskets, K-On!, Toradora, Durarara!!, Fate/stay night: Unlimited Blade Works.
I know this comes out of left field, but JoJo's Bizarre Adventure.
Hear me out
Not only is it full of the memes and quirkiness, like Death Note. But every fight in it is just people outsmarting eachother, similar to Death Note.
I loves both, and watched JoJo immediately after Death Note as my second anime. Plus, JoJos music is super fun.
I just started JoJo last week, I definitely am enjoying it as much as death note even though they don’t seem like similar shows at all
Serial Experiments Lain, it has quite an easy plot but it’s amazing
I would love a series that is about the aftermath of Death Note, especially if it follows the police task force that were on the Kira case.
Maybe it coud be a show set before Death Note. L origin story perhaps? I love L.
If there was another Death Note anime show, what would you want it to be about? Anything. A sequel, prequel, spin-off, reboot.
There’s a one shot manga chapter that’s a small sequel to the story. in addition to this, there’s a book called Death Note: Another Note: The Los Angeles BB Murder Cases. It’s not a manga. It’s an actual written book
There’s also a manga book called How To Read 13 which just gives additional information about the characters. I think it’s interesting.
And the other one that I know of is called L: Change The World which gives extra information about L and more background on him.
Somebody mentioned on another tread, about a spin off of how Mello got into the mafia, I confess that it got me curious
I definitely would want a spin-off prequel with L! Also, a Mello side-story with his life in the mafia would be really exciting. I love L and Mello, so I'll be down for anything that involves them 😆
I completely agree on this! 😄
Never a problem. And they are pretty awesome from what I’ve heard and seen. I was hooked throughout the Los Angeles BB Murder Cases the entire time
Light as a Shinigami trying to change the Shinigami realm- would totally watch that.
Except he doesn’t become a Shinigami. That isn’t a thing.
For that matter, what if there was an entire Death Note What If? series? Whether it adheres to canon or not? Like...
What if Light did become a shinigami after dying?
For that matter, what if all Death Note users became shinigami? How would Raye or Mikami react?
What if L and Light swapped roles?
What if Matsuda was the one who got the Death Note instead?
What if the Death Note had a rule that you can't kill the same way twice, like in the Simpsons parody?
I thought this was really cool and then you mentioned “How would Raye or Mikami react?” AND I REALIZED I COMPLETELY FORGOT THAT RAYE IS TECHNICALLY A DEATH NOTE USER
That sounds so interesting! I'd definitely watch it.
There are other works out there that have been made about Death Note. I assume you're not aware, so I recommend checking stuff out.
I will so check them out!
animes by the creators of Death Note
Key Considerations:
Creators: Death Note was created by Tsugumi Ohba (writer) and Takeshi Obata (illustrator). Both have worked on other notable projects.
Notable Works:
Themes: Both Bakuman and Platinum End explore themes of ambition, morality, and the consequences of one's choices, similar to Death Note.
Recommendation: If you enjoyed Death Note for its psychological depth and moral complexity, you might find Platinum End particularly engaging. It retains the darker themes and intense storytelling that fans of Death Note appreciate. On the other hand, if you're interested in the creative process behind manga, Bakuman offers a lighter yet insightful perspective.
