If you're looking for anime series that incorporate supernatural elements, there are a variety of options across different genres. Here are some recommendations based on discussions from various threads:
Classic Supernatural Series
Action and Adventure with Supernatural Themes
Supernatural Mystery and Thriller
Unique Storytelling and Art Style
Comedy with Supernatural Elements
These series span various genres and styles, providing a wide range of supernatural experiences to explore. Whether you prefer action-packed adventures, heartfelt stories, or comedic takes on the supernatural, there's something for every taste.
I’m not a huge anime person but I’m hoping to find more I enjoy. I do like more supernatural stuff (I know that can be seen as broad because it can fall into different genres) but thats how I am with normal tv shows to. I love something with supernatural. Doesn’t matter if it’s action, horror, or romance
Here’s a list of ones I really like (or pretty much all the ones I’ve seen) •Tokyo Ghoul •Fruit Basket •Highschool dxd •Devils Line •Spy Family •Vampire knight •Vampire Dormitory
Mushishi . The whole series is about supernatural creatures called mushi and how they interact with people
Excellent suggestion. Has an X files vibe, but in a historical era.
Yeah, it’s probably the best supernatural anime out there. It’s so good. Very chill, too.
I saw it years ago and it stuck with me. I always recommend it any chance I get its truly a work of art.
Well, there's the anime "Supernatural" from Madhouse. It's based on the TV show with Sam and Dean.
Natsume: Book of Friends
Seconded, plus there's 7 seasons and it'll keep you busy for a while. My favorite show I binged semi recently
I thought that was an alien show?
Ghosts and aliens
Ghost Stories
Make sure you watch this dubbed
i came here to suggest this lol
Hi there! Been getting back into anime recently and really nailing down what I like and I'm now looking for more.
I've found my taste is: Supernatural with bonus points if it has urban legends or yokai. Strong central relationships (not necessarily romantic, shout out Reigen and Mob.) And absurd comedy. Also, though obviously this isn't necessary, I like ones that are slightly more popular, I spend a lot of time in local anime scenes and really cherish being able to bond over shared interests with others!
Animes I've watched/rewatched recently that fit my tastes include: DanDaDan, Toilet Bound Hanako-Kun, Noragami, Mob Psycho 100, and Saiki K.
Thank you for any suggestions!

Shaman King
Dark gathering is peak. Really hope it gets a second season
There's always ghost stories. As you prob heard, the dub is ridiculously funny. The story isn't bad either and there's a bunch of ghosts in it
3days ago some one also asked for supernatural anime suggestion, here's my recommendation
Supernatural the animation.
Devil May Cry (2007)
xxxHolic
Kekaishi
Kokuri-san
Bimbougami ga! (ecchi)
Noragami
Blood the Last Vampire (OVA) Blood+ (TV series) Blood-C (spin-off)
Chrono Crusade
By what I am talking about is an anime that has a lot of dealings with the greater supernatural, superstitions, myths, spirits, angels, demons, monsters, etc. But works with them in a way like the show Supernatural, where 99.999% of the people don't know it's "real" and it is at least slightly serious, not comic relief or silly.
PS: no harem or ecchi
Well there is a supernatural anime
Huh, never knew that existed, I'll take a look, appreciate it
Sadly it's only a few episodes and iirc it's literally just animated versions of existing episodes.
Xxxholic?
i was going to recommend this, but its a little too Yokai based, but honestly its top tier.
Don't let the title fool you. It's not what you're thinking.
Second this.
Mob Psycho 100
Norogami
Jujutsu Kaisen
Bleach
The Monogatari series
In/Spectre fits. It has silly moments but cases they work on are usually very serious.
I was coming down to comment this. In/Spectre gives me major Supernatural vibes, but with yokai.
Dandadan just aired last year and i loved it. season 2 is almost here as well.
I am interested in anime with mythical, supernatural, thriller elements.Perhaps something similar to Netflix series Archive 81 or Lost.
I am fairly new to anime so I am mostly familiar with well known titles. AoT,dragon ball, one punch man, death note and erased.
I would prefer that anime would have English dub.
{Houseki no Kuni}
I mean all the characters are ridiculously well-animated Gemstones. What more could you want? I watched the opening and I was in awe istg
Noragami.
Dororo
Try Parasyte
This vid might help then. I’m trying to promote the channel, so I might as well try to help someone out in the process. 😄
For some reason I really enjoy shows with supernatural elements whether it be ghosts, youkai, demons, or monsters. I'm not too picky when it comes to genre or length and am curious if anyone knows any supernatural shows similar to some of the ones I've watched that I've listed below.
The Monogatari series - one of my favorite shows. The wordplay inspired creatures and animation style are stuff I love and haven't seen in any other show. I don't know if there are any similar shows out there aside from Nisioisin's other works (katanagatari, xxholic) but I am interested in similar shows.
Spirited Away - probably my favorite ghibli film, in particular I am curious if there are any other pieces of supernatural media with a similar '90's/2000's' feel.
Dororo/Demon Slayer - I haven't finished Demon Slayer, however I am enjoying it so far. While the supernatural elements are not the primary focus for Dororo, I still enjoyed seeing the occasional demon every few episodes. I am curious if there are any other shows similar to either of these.
Mairimashita Iruma kun - I'm not too sure if this fits in the same category as the other shows, however part of my enjoyment comes from the setting. Something about this show makes me happy and I can't really describe it. Any recommendations similar to Iruma are greatly appreciated!
Scooby Doo - not an anime, but in particular I am curious to know if there are any shows that follow a similar formula (monster of the week, fun cast of characters) It doesn't need to follow Scooby Doo to the letter, but I am looking for shows with shared elements.
I have also watched and enjoyed Elegant Youkai apartment life, In/Spectre, Tasogare Otome x Amnesia, and some bits of Yo - Kai watch.
Any and all Recommendations are appreciated and Thank You in Advance!! : )
Mushishi
Xxxholic
Ancient magus bride
Natsume yuujinchou
Noragami
Kamisama kiss
Kakuriyo no yadomeshi
You might like Noragami.
Will check it out, Thanks!
Read kemono jihen. The art is good and the story is well developed, now it has around 100+ chapters so it is perfect to binge. Anime is good too for the first season, love the op tho. It tells a story about a boy that got adopted to a private detective agency and that boy is a frickin ghoul.
Thanks for the recommendation! I watched the show and had no idea there was a manga and that it was so far along. Will definitely check it out.
Read it bro! I'm lovin the pacing and the direction that the story took now
{somali and the forest spirit} {b: the beginning} {to your eternity} {vatican miracle examiner} {devilman crybaby}

Thanks for the recommendations! I've been a fan of To Your Eternity for a few years now, great manga. I am definitely going to check out Somali and the forest spirit and forbidden scrollery! : )

you should "Another", trust me
ANOTHER is a 100 % gothic horror : no Dragon Ball style Battle against Monsters, no ecchi Angels. Just plot and atmosphere.
I don't want to give you spoilers But I can tell you that “Another” can boast one of the best written plots i have ever seen. The first two episodes seem mundane and taste like something you've already seen BUT IT'S A WILLING EFFECT because starting from the third episode a twist begins that reshuffles all the cards on the table and turns upside down all the certainties about the plot you thought you had up to that point.
Again without spoilers: I found absolutely brilliant the idea in ANOTHER that the villain does not know who is the villain. Not in the sense that he thinks he is in the right: in this case the big bad doesn't know that he is the big bad. Obviously without giving you spoilers I can't tell you more but I really recommend that you see this series
Some of my favorites to give you an idea of what I'm looking for are Mob Psycho 100, Heavenly Delusion, Chainsaw Man, and Kamikatsu. This isn't necessary but I like that these shows have a slight amount of romance but aren't what the show revolves around.
Blue exorcist is a good one for supernatural stuff.
I’ve seen the the first season and finished the manga, i enjoyed it too.
Persona 4: the Animation (2011 version) (English dub recommended)
Shadows House
Summer time rendering is so good
In/spectre, Mushishi, fate/Stay night and fate/zero to name a few
Something among the lines of Supernatural or Van Helsing…..Are there any mangas/anime where the characters hunt demons, vampires, ghosts, etc?
You might like In/Spectre. I did, as a Supernatural fan, but I don't think they're exactly the same vibe, honestly. I do like how the two leads bounce off each other, though.
Thanks I will check it out. It’s hard to find similar type stories. I feel like the closest media you can get to Supernatural would be Constantine, Grimm, and Buffy. I’ve looked up all these suggestions and they all sound great tho so I will be diving in
Nice enjoy! And I know what you mean. I've thought about trying to write my own work because I've struggled to find anything that quite captures the essence of early Supernatural, lol.
Hellsing
Blood +
Blood c
Ghost hunt
Majin Tantei Nougami Neuro
Shinrei Tantei Yakumo
Thank you!
Dandadan
I actually just saw this come up on my Netflix the other day. I looked it up and saw mixed reviews but sounds like a wild ride haha
its actually one of the top/most highly rated and anticipated series. idk where you got mixed reviews.
Dark Gathering
This is not a direct response to your question, but you should read Don't Underestimate Bread!. Trust me.
I just want anything that has some spiritual/religious/supernatural elements of any kind. And not just superficially touching on it but rather it being central to the anime. Also that they really elaborate on it. Some examples:
Blue exorcist
Inuyasha
Ascendance of a bookworm
Noragami
Fullmetal alchemist brotherhood Xxxholic Soul eater Sailor moon Dandadan
I mean technically the magic in Saga of Tanya The Evil is kinda religious as uh Tanya did need to call god when using advanced? Magic
Jojo’s Bizarre Adventure blends a bit of spiritual themes, with supernatural themes.
Recommend me some ace supernatural themed anime.
I loved Mushi-shi, mononoke Hime (I have already seen all Ghibli movies) and Mononoke.
It can be action packed, and can also be modern day, but I am not looking for a shonen-like anime, nor isekai (tho I am flexible, I loved InuYasha too).
Ghost Hunt
Natsume's Book of Friends and Death Note
Death Note I have already seen 😊 tho, might give it a rewatch; it was over 15 years ago 🙈🧓
Unironically, I think you might like Dandadan!
Started it this morning and 3 episodes in I will say that I unironically do like DanDanDan. a lot. I lol’d every episode, and the animation is indeed peak! I’d say this fit my request very well! Arigatogozaimasu! 🙏🙇
Glad that you liked it! And, without spoiling too much, Dandadan has its own tearjerker moments too. And when they hit, they hit all the HARDER coming from a comedy.
Natsume’s Book of Friends
That’s the one with the cat spirit, right?
Yep!
The Monogatari series
Oh, I didn’t know there was more of where Mononoke came from 🤩
Edit: sorry, I was mixing things up 😅 will still check this out, tho!
