TL;DR
Prepaid and Annual Plans
For families looking to save money on phone plans, prepaid options such as Boost Mobile are highly recommended. Users have praised Boost Mobile's annual plans, which offer significant savings compared to monthly contracts [3:2]. Another option is Woolworths Mobile, which provides additional benefits like a discount on groceries, effectively reducing the overall cost of the phone plan
[3:6].
Network Coverage and Flexibility
When selecting a family plan, it's important to consider network coverage and flexibility. Some users have noted that while Belong claims to use parts of Telstra’s mobile network, it may not provide the same level of coverage, especially in rural areas [3:11]. It's advisable to verify the network coverage in your area before committing to a plan. Additionally, switching providers after an annual plan expires can help take advantage of promotional offers
[3:4].
Buying Unlocked Phones
Purchasing unlocked phones outright and then shopping for a service plan separately can lead to long-term savings. This approach allows you to avoid being tied to a specific carrier and often results in lower monthly costs [5:2]. Users have found success buying unlocked phones directly from manufacturers like Apple and using them with prepaid carriers
[5:4]. This method also provides the flexibility to switch carriers if better deals become available.
Cost Comparison and Savings
When comparing costs, it's crucial to consider the total expense over the life of a contract versus buying a phone outright. For example, an $850 phone spread over two years equates to about $35 a month. If this amount, combined with your current plan, is less than a new contract with a "free" phone, sticking with your existing plan and purchasing the phone upfront can be more economical [5:9]. Additionally, opting for refurbished or clearance models can further reduce costs without sacrificing quality
[5:9].
By considering these factors, families can find a phone plan that fits their needs and budget while maximizing value and flexibility.
Am I tripping or when the offer was sent both the 2 versions of phone 3 were 100€ cheaper?
Seriously? Great deal then 🫶🏻❤️ Not sure if it works in India though
It's a nice deal, but it ends so fast that i'm not even considering it.
I'm happy with my Nothing Phone (2) right now, and while the offer is nice if you want to change the phone, if you don't need to change it it's just not worth it.
If it went down to 300€ maybe i would consider it.
Does the deal need to take back the Nothing Phone (1) or (2)? (The Terms & Conditions like doesn't work in my country).
Edit.: How shameful, earlier there was a discount on the phone for 699€ and you could apply the discount of 250€ to leave it at 449€...
They removed the deal and now it's 549€... For that price they can keep dreaming.
Getting rid of a Phone 1 or 2 for a discount is a bit sad...
If Nothing became a massive phone brand in the future a Phone 1 or 2 would be considerably valuable as a "classic" so to speak
But it's needed to send the phone back? Because i don't see anything mentioned in the FAQ webpage and when you try to buy the phone the discount it's applied directly.
It doesn't say anything else, if you have to pay like 450€ for Phone (3) and keep Phone (2)... It would be nice to have a second phone that i can still use.
Tbf, I paid 330€ for my Phone 1 two years ago. Getting a 250€ voucher for that would be a steal even if you'd have to send it in and if the Phone 3 was actually a phone I'd consider buying.
I did consider it as well but after having just bought the headphone (1) I can't bring myself to spend another 600 euro for a phone I don't actually need.
I'll just wait until a good offer comes around later when my phone 1 eventually dies for good
IT IS SO NOT WORTH IT.
The phone itself is so OVER PRICED AS HELL. The sale does nothing.
hehe.. nothing

I'm keeping my phone (1) till it dies so if someone wants to use my code, go for it. I'm considering switching to iphone and use my NP1 rooted.
For a franchise show this is really incredible, let alone a STAR WARS SHOW. I’m glad they got at least one win on the main broadcast too. We are really so fortunate to have gotten such an incredible production made by such passionate and outstanding creatives. I would be shocked if we see a Star Wars show even be nominated for an Outstanding Writing Emmy ever again. I’m rooting for that day and I hope Lucasfilm takes the right lessons from Andor.
Well, I suppose I can only hope that Andor leaves a lasting legacy on the creatives.
It may have not done absolutely amazing numbers, but the show is definitely going to have a very positive long-term effect on the franchise, and I think that's very important moving forward.
Very glad that the show won some well-deserved awards. I was slightly afraid this show was going to get the Better Call Saul treatment from the Emmys.
Yeah, i wouldnt hold much hope. Ahsoka new show will be probably average star wars show quality
Honestly in a lot of other Emmy seasons Andor would have won Best Drama. But going up against The Pitt and Severance? This Emmy's was a murderer's row.
Agree, I would’ve only been disappointed if Andor walked away with 0 wins during the main show since I think it deserves at least some recognition. Otherwise all the winners were absolutely deserved. The Pitt came out of nowhere and stole the year, I’m happy that Noah Wyle essentially got a lifetime achievement award and won for the show he helped write & produce.
It would degrade the show if you had them pushed into this.
I'm kinda sick of lightsabers and simple Good Vs Evil - Andor is the mature Star Wars i praise.
That's a pretty significant flaw in your plan.
*Brief Kleya smile*
If you asked me 5 years ago if a show about Cassian Andor was a good idea, I would've laughed at you. If you told me that it would one day be my favorite out of all star wars shows I'd be rolling on the floor laughing and think you needed a psychiatrist.
Well here I am, firmly claiming that a show about Cassian fucking Andor is up there with the best shows of all time such as the Wire, Breaking Bad, and Deadwood. It's unreal, and I love it.
I’m not disparaging Star Wars. Ive been a fan for essentially my entire life, so I know the average quality of the franchise and how great of an exception Andor is. I also know what these industry organizations tend to nominate, and it’s usually not installments in long running franchises like Star Wars. I like the MCU too, but I don’t expect any of those movies or shows to win awards outside of a tech category here and there let alone awards for writing. All I meant was to celebrate Andor as an achievement, and hope Lucasfilm allows skilled creatives play in the universe with similar freedom to what Gilroy & co got to do with this show.
And y’know, mon mothma, which was just an absolute gorgeous piece of casting
Pretty solid haul for a show that didn’t have a ton of crossover appeal in the mainstream and was going up against the phenomenon that is The Pitt (which is another outstanding show, hard to be upset about any award Andor lost to it).
Hey there,
So I'm looking for a mobile plan for myself at the cheapest possible with certain conditions met.
I'd like;
Currently what I do is I buy an eSIM with BoostMobile for like $15 then dump it once the month is over for a cheap bunch of data to use when I'm on a holiday, sometimes even when I'm at home because having mobile internet is nice, and for under $20 for the month is a pretty awesome deal.
There's a 60GB deal for $17 right now with BoostMobile which I'm about to grab, but getting a new number every time has become annoying for myself and family.
Anyone know a really good monthly rate as close to the conditions above for $20 maybe max 30?
I want the Telstra Network if possible as it seems to be the best in terms of coverage where I live / go on holiday.
Thoughts?
Boost mobile grab their annual plan when on sale then you’re all set for the year. When it runs out move to another provider that’s on sale for a month then move back all while keeping the same number.
This. Sign up for the best 365 plan at the time that suits. Switch providers after the 365 days. If nothing suits then go on a month by month prepaid plan until there is a 365 day special that suits.
Even at the full price of $300 it is only $25/month, Telstra network, and no stuffing around swapping between carriers.
Cellpoint and luckymobile both have the sim for $244 which you can then take to officeworks to pricebeat for an even better price.
Boost yearly plan or Aldi mobile. Though I have heard Aldi will be going up in price.
Woolworths mobile - you get 10% off your shop once a month, so can make it effectively free
And 10% off the mobile plan
Oh interesting. I was going to say Coles Mobile 1 year for 170 but there's no discount. maybe I should switch when this expires - I didn't get the discount second year around so it's not as good as year 1.
Belong apparently gets Telstra Retail as well, however they're limited at 100Mbps on 5G but I think Boost's 12 month is cheaper overall anyway, so that's what I'll get. Thank you.
>We use parts of Telstra’s mobile network
I just spent three weeks in the western QLD/NT/SA area and am with Belong. Two mates were with Telstra. They CONSTANTLY had reception in country towns I got nothing. If Belong claim to be on the retail network, it's frankly BS.
Not my experience coming to them off Telstra
I believe in the the 20 thousand price bracket this is the best phone currently in the market, but I could be wrong so please help me guys, I am just a newbie who want your opinions.
I don't require any pro level specs but just that it should atleast have what new phones have. (Budget is a little flexible I can go around 1-2k up if it is good enough)
Umm motorola edge 60 fusion is also good cmf too
oppo k13 better than ts plus cheaper if you want good cameras go for nothing phone 2a if you want performance go with poco x7 pro
I am currently using iQOO z9s 5g, it's a good phone
I know buying a new flagship phone isnt necessity “frugal”… but, My trusty iphone XS is on its way out. Charging port is cooked, my Face ID slowly started giving out and completely failed early this year, and it won’t be getting the new iOS update, been charging via Magsafe case, but she still runs fine.
Got quoted ~$175 from a handful of places for port & battery replacement but I’m missing my Face ID for password management and wallet.
Aaand a recently announced phone did catch my eye.
I was shopping around and every “free” to sub $200 phone, with activation of plan, is no less than a 2yr contract on a ~$70+ plan.
I’ve been out of the new phone scene for a while, is buying a new unlocked phone for ~$850usd and using a prepaid plan the way to go?
Or am I missing a $ saving method via major carrier? My phone is currently only worth ~$70 via trade in.
I currently am using a prepaid phone service on an unlocked phone.
It’s always best to buy an unlocked phone outright and then shop the service separately. I tend to pay $300-$400 for a new iPhone every three years or so when the battery is weakening (price includes money recouped from selling the old phone myself, not trading). My current service is $40/mo contract-free on true Verizon (not a reseller carrier) for unlimited everything. You can definitely get service for less than that but not with unlimited data, which I need.
Very, very, quickly you will recover the money spent to buy the phone yourself as compared to paying over $100/mo forever financing new phones through the carrier. There is a reason the carriers commercials always talk about “free” phones “on us.” Those are the most lucrative plans for the carrier and the most expensive plans for you.
Did you have to do anything special to get $40 unlimited through Verizon? We were thinking about jumping off of the family plan, but had a hell of a time beating unlimited $35 per line with T-Mobile.
Having the account set up to auto-pay gives me a $10/mo discount which brings it to $40. I don’t have any special discounts to get to that figure (military, etc). My total bill every month is $86 and change with two $40 lines plus taxes and fees.
I never buy phones locked to a carrier. I’ve found it cheaper to buy unlocked from Apple and then use a prepaid carrier. I have the iPhone 16 with a USMobile yearly plan @ $96 plus a $78 yearly plan for my Apple Watch. I’ve done it this way for years. Good luck!
Do you purchase unlocked phones directly from Apple? If not where do you purchase unlocked Apple phones?
I have done this before, yes! Just walked into an Apple Store and said I would add the service later. They didn’t bat an eye
I do this. I'm usually 2 models behind the current phone at least but the phone lasts 2+ years with no issues. I pay $40 a month for service rather than the $70 plus for a "free" phone.
An $850 phone equates to about $35 a month spread out over two years. If the plan you're currently using + $35 is less than what you'll be paying going for a 2-year contract with a "free" phone, then I would 100% stick with your prepaid plan and buy the phone outright.
You'll save even more money if you get a clearance or refurbished phone. I bought an outdated Pixel (2 models behind) on clearance shortly after a new model was released for half the price of the new model, which didn't have any significant advantages over the older model, at least none that mattered to me. For brand new models, "refurbished" often means "buyer's remorse return, just needed to be wiped and repackaged" or "something failed out of the box and now it's fixed" so that's also a good option as long as you're buying from a reputable vendor.
I have a very minimal prepaid plan on top of that because I rarely use data: $15/month for 250mb data, unlimited texting, and 100 minutes. Even if I went for an expensive phone, there's no free-phone-with-a-2-year-contract deal that can beat that.
Look into tello for phone plans. I have unlimited talk text 2 gigs for ten dollars a month.
One thing to keep in mind is that a phone released 2 models ago has that many less years of software support. It might not matter to you, but I value having supported devices and was the deciding factor in choosing my current phone.
Depends on which phone, I'd just get an android with unlockable bootloader and then I can upgrade it indefinitely
You can either pay for the phone up front or pay over the life of the contract in the form of increased monthly costs. Either way you are paying for the phone. With the contract options/“free” phone promotions they are banking on the fact that most people will just continue with the more expensive contract after the phone promotion period (usually 2-3 years) has ended.
You should for the Xiaomi 14 CIVI!
But if you don't want a Xiaomi phone then get the S24FE and skip the reno 14. The skintone processing would frustrate you a bit.
14 civi ain't good for long term use cuz only 2 android updates left, 4700mah battery n IP54
Which one is better for taking pictures, s24 fe or pixel 9?
S24FE
Pixel 9 or Vivo t4 ultra
Which one is better for taking pictures, s24 fe or pixel 9?
If you're gonna be out there shooting "pictures of" people then definitely t4 ultra, for everything else pixel ( except zoom shots )
Which one is better for taking pictures, s24 fe or pixel 9?
the lowest is Civi 14.
17 pro. The best.
I’m looking for help finding the best deal on new cell phones and a family plan. My wife and I need:
We’d prefer service on Verizon’s network, but we’re open to other options if there’s a better value.
I'm wondering if bundling the phones in there gets a better deal from any providers.
Any ideas?
Best to get plans from US Mobile or Visible at most $20/line. Then get a phone separately, you can get a used unlocked iPhone 14 from Swappa or BackMarket for $320 or an unlocked iPhone 13 for $265
Total Wireless (runs on VZ) has brand new iP13 for free w/ number port and 3mo paid service ($165 total)
Phone will unlock in 60 days of service use so port out to another carrier before your 3mo ends -- 3mo service will take you to around Thanksgiving time so look for service promos then
Second this
What are people’s thoughts on Consumer Cellular? I am with A T & T and my bill for two lines is $194 per month?! Looking to reduce my bill to no more that $80 per month
ATT has a prepaid annual plan with 15gb per month for $300
The lowest cost would be with an annual plan instead of a monthly plan.
USMobile phone prices are not good. Visible has a preowned 13 for $278
I'd recommend either Visible or US Mobile (in your case a By the Gig plan because you don't use much data). With the new Inner Circle this should be possible to have two lines on one bill.
Neither has a senior discount but the prices are so reasonable to begin with you shouldn't need one.
I'd also recommend buying your new phones outright and factory unlocked. Easier to take to your new provider and easier to take with you should you not like them.
Hello!
My family needs smartphones for communication in case of emergencies and other things and we're not sure where to start. We are looking for a phone that is under 300 dollars each, but another caveat is that my mother and father aren't the most tech savvy and aren't good with smartphones, whilst my sister and I are just fine with whatever. Any recommendations on reliable phones in the budget and can accommodate my parents? No apple please-
There's a clearance sale on the Edge+ 2023 (Motorola's flagship from 2023) which brings it down to $299 - they're fast, have great displays and battery life, and should perform well and hold up for a very long time. Here's the link: https://www.bestbuy.com/site/motorola-edge-512gb-2023-unlocked-interstellar-black/6540585.p
This is honestly the best bet. That 8 Gen 2 inside it will hold its own without overheating and reviews were strong for the Edge+. 300$ for this is a steal
$300 for an Edge+ is definitely crazy - was surprised to even see something like this at that price
Moto G 5G Moto G Power 5G
Just a few days ago I had never heard of USMobile but now I’m very interested. I currently have Verizon and pay about 300/month for 4 lines. Our service sucks so we want to switch to something else. I’ve had all the big 3 carriers and always pay too much.
Anyway, my question is about family plans. Do the unlimited plans have multiple lines? I can only seem to find adding 4 lines on the by-the-gig plans before it makes me sign up or sign in.
I asked their customer service but they just directed me to the pay by the gig… after looking that up, it’s not something I want. Unlimited perks are more my jam (including annual pay)
You're still thinking like a subscriber of the big carriers. There are no explicit "family" plans. The rates are already low enough that even with multiple plans you pay a lot less than "family" plans of the big carriers. There are three tiers of annual unlimited plans, look at all of them and see which one you find appealing. And if Verizon sucks in your area, you can try the other networks with US Mobile and see which one works best for you.
I consider it family plan because I pay for my mom and mother in law. They’re old and I’m the one that takes care of all the phone issues. I wouldn’t want them to deal with it… or more like support to have to deal with them 😂
I wouldn’t be able to have “admin” rights to their accounts unless I sign up for them, right? Main issue is my mom lives 1500 miles away and my MIL lives 250 miles away
Hey I do the same thing lol, I pay for and manage my mom and MIL phones. I basically put them on a 10GB pooled plan though as they don't use much data, it's only $28 a month for both of them.
So the thing is, do you want them to have their own accounts that they can manage themselves or no? In my case, I just have the one account under my email, and all four lines managed under it. My wife and I have the unlimited annual BOGO plans (if AT&T is great in your area this is the best offer you can find anywhere, but it only works if you choose Dark Star which is the AT&T network). This could be great for your first year at least since if you port 4 numbers in you're getting 2 of the lines for free.
I just switched from Verizon (6 lines) to US Mobile, using their BOGO offer. It was so easy!
Which service did you choose? I am currently running a trial offer of Google Fi (T-Mobile) on an old phone and it’s been amazing.
I was leaning towards Light Speed because I know T-Mo works everywhere I need it. Haven’t tried AT&T
AT&T since the BOGO offer only applies to Dark Star.
You'd have to do 4 individual unlimited plans. Not sure why they directed you to by-the-gig. Its a valid option but not what you're looking for. No explicit "family" plan for unlimited data
If you get 4 individual unlimited premium plans at $390/yr will be $1,560 per year vs $3,600 per year on Verizon. On the first year you can do the buy one get one deals and pay $780 for the first year.
The joy of us mobile, aside from the price, is the Teleporting. If one carrier doesn't work well, switch. I switched every month for the first 3 months to try all 3. Found out warp was best for me.
Welcome to the family.
Well, we've got you covered! The BOGO offer is still valid till 15th July; with this on Dark Star, you can pick up an Annual Premium or Starter Plan and get an Annual starter and Annual Flex Plan for free, respectively.
If perks are still your main agenda, then you'll have to go with our Monthly premium plan on either network, but on Dark Star you can use the 'FULLSPEED' promo code to get it only for $35/mo for the next 12 billing cycles!
I'll get us connected so we can put more options on the table and go with the one that fits your criteria the best. 🤝🏻
Edit: Can't seem to send you a chat request; could you send me one instead?
We left Verizon around 6 months ago. Easy decision and zero regrets. We started with 3 lines of unlimited starter. It worked for us, but for smoother $15/month, I get completely unlimited on Dark Star (AT&T). I don’t understand why everyone hasn’t moved. US Mobile is pretty great. Customer Service is exceptional.
I am with T Mobile right now. I have my wife, 2 kids and mother in law on my account. Right now we are on Go5G Next and our bill is getting out of hand. We are paying $360 a month.
I am looking for a plan that can cover the kids heavy useage and Canada useage free.
I always forget about Google Fi as it’s only a good deal if you have 4+ lines
Pay off your phones then get one of these:
Don't forget Visible and Total by Verizon
How much of your bill is for the plan costs (and is it just for 5 total voice lines without anything else, or do you also have watch/tablet lines as part of the plan?), how much is for phone insurance costs, and how much of your $360 bill is for any devices? It will help gauge recommendations for plan costs.
Also, if any part of your bill is for phones/devices either with or without credits, another question is what are the approximate balances that are still owed on each device, and how many months left on the payment plans are there?
$305 for devices, $37 for equipment and $19 for services
Since I can't tell from your answer if you are getting significant monthly credits/discounts from some sort of promo on Go5G Next, and if you have such arrangements for any significant length of time into the future (and from which we could figure out if you have any significant financial barrier to leaving the plan, e.g., if you had a $500 balance on each of 5 iPhone 15/16 Pros), and if you want a cheap plan on the T-Mobile network, I guess general suggestions might be to look at Google Fi.
As far as I remember, Go5G Next doesn't have unlimited data in Canada so I'm not sure what you are actually looking for. A google search is turning up 15GB for data in Canada while on Next.

best family phone plans 2023
Key Considerations for Family Phone Plans:
Number of Lines: Determine how many lines you need. Many carriers offer discounts for multiple lines, which can significantly reduce costs.
Data Allowance: Assess your family's data usage. Unlimited plans are great for heavy users, while shared data plans can save money if usage is lower.
Network Coverage: Check the coverage maps of different carriers in your area to ensure reliable service for all family members.
Features and Perks: Look for plans that include additional features like mobile hotspot, international calling, or streaming service subscriptions.
Cost: Compare the monthly costs of different plans, including any additional fees or taxes. Consider the total cost over a year for a clearer picture.
Contract vs. No Contract: Decide if you prefer a contract plan (often with lower upfront costs) or a no-contract plan (more flexibility).
Recommendations:
Verizon 5G Start Unlimited: Offers unlimited data, great coverage, and family discounts. Ideal for families needing reliable service and high data usage.
T-Mobile Magenta Plus: Includes unlimited data, HD streaming, and a Netflix subscription for families. Good for those who want extra perks.
AT&T Unlimited Starter: Provides unlimited data with solid coverage and family plan discounts. A good balance of features and cost.
Mint Mobile Family Plan: If you’re looking for budget-friendly options, Mint Mobile offers affordable plans with shared data and no contracts.
Takeaway: Evaluate your family's specific needs regarding data usage, budget, and desired features to choose the best plan. Always check for promotions or discounts that may be available when signing up.
