How to Block Contacts on KakaoTalk

Blocking and Deleting Contacts

To block a contact on KakaoTalk, you need to go to your friends list, select the contact, and choose the option to block them. However, blocking alone does not remove the contact from your list; you will need to delete them separately [1:3]. To completely remove a blocked contact from your list, first unblock them, then proceed to delete [1:4].

Privacy After Blocking

Once you block someone on KakaoTalk, they can no longer see your information or photos [2:2]. However, they may still be able to send gifts through the app [2:1]. Blocking primarily restricts communication and visibility of your profile.

Common Issues with Blocking

Some users have reported issues with account bans and restrictions, which could interfere with the ability to manage contacts effectively [3:5], [5:1]. If you encounter unexpected bans or restrictions, it is recommended to contact KakaoTalk support for assistance [3:2]. Ensure that your phone number is verified, as this is crucial for account functionality [3:2].

Technical Support and Troubleshooting

If you experience difficulties with blocking or managing contacts due to technical issues or account restrictions, reaching out to KakaoTalk's customer support is advisable. You can find the support options within the app under the settings menu [3:2]. Keep in mind that foreign numbers might face additional challenges, and patience may be required while resolving these issues [4:2], [4:4].

ORIGINAL POST

Is there a way to delete a blocked contact in Kakaotalk? Or am I stuck with a list of all blocked contacts forever?

Right -- but then wouldn't the unwanted contact remain unblocked, and could therefore re-initiate communication? I was hoping there's a way to have someone BOTH (a) blocked AND (b) completely deleted from my contacts. Is that impossible?

You can’t block a contact that doesn’t exist. You are asking Katalk to maintain a list of contacts you blocked so you don’t have too. No it doesn’t work like that. Think of all the spam numbers people block.

These 1000 numbers can’t call or message A but can message or call B. B’s 2500 blocked numbers can call A and C but not B. This isn’t manageable server side.

Your local app/account on your phone decides if you see or receive the message to do that your account/device maintains your list for you. Clean it up or don’t that’s your call.

Go to the friends list and click them, then on the list it says delete.

Need help w/ Kakaotalk!

Posted by Identity__Crysis · in r/korea · 5 years ago

Hello guys! Does anyone here have any experience with Kakaotalk?

I keep getting blocked for no reason (after not having said anything in any group chat, much less something offensive. No offensive username or anything too) And having my account suspended.

Have not ever used this app because I was instantly banned before I could say anything, so I know nobody reported me either.

I downloaded it a few months ago and I instantly got banned, and the ban has still not been lifted. When I make a different account with a different email it instantly blocks me too. (I deleted my old account so the phone number would be gone too)

Does anyone know the cause? I literally did nothing wrong so why am I banned?

[Edit]: I'm also banned from sending messages to people I have not sent messages to before :(

Does it indicate why you got banned? You can try contacting Kakao for that. On the app, tap the three dot menu button on the bottom right, then the settings icon on the top right, support menu on the very bottom, and then the contact us option. Just fill out the form.

Edit: And as far as I know, the phone number is the most important info, not the email address. You have to have the phone number verified by Kakaotalk in order use your account. They just send you a verification code for that. And you can only create an account with the same phone number once.

It says I was banned for violating their policies... but I didn't violate anything so I don't know why they would think that I'll try the form thing! Thanks

Woah thanks for the quick reply! And no it's not a new number I've had it for years haha. It's a Dutch number. My friend also has a Dutch number on there though and she doesn't have any problems

Weird. All I could think of is that your number was previously registered on kakao and had already rubbed some people the wrong way. I got nothing now.

Posted by godpeny · in r/KakaoTalk · 5 years ago

hello, I'm a dev in KAKAO, Korea.

I read few of the recent posts and found out some of users are struggling with "banned for violation of operation policy" even if you didn't do anything specific but just download the Kakao talk app, register and join any open chat room.

I already reported this issue but just wanna make sure.

Anyone struggled or currently struggling with this problem please tell me the region you live and running environment(iOS,android, window, mac,linux..). Of course if you don't mind :)

Hi, has this been addressed?

I am chat restricted with a foreign number. Despite emailing multiple times and even paying for something on Kakao Talk, I cannot get the restriction to lift.

When I email customer support, I only get automated emails back. I have been restricted for 3 months and this point.

Help would be greatly appreciated!

Hello I am a kakao user from India I have the same problem too on my Kakaotalk 60 days restrictions the whole app has advantage for Koreans not foreign users, talk safety pass is not allowed in India. I am currently using Android (Vivo T2X, Android 13) if you have a solution please share information about it.

Hi, I live in Canada, and my Kakao is not working properly. I tried to open a group chat with my friends but it asked for a 6-digit code. I think it’s related to 2FA, but I’ve completely forgotten what I had set before. After five unsuccessful attempts, it showed the following message: ‘Exceeded Password Attempts. Your password has been reset because you have exceeded the allowed five (5) password attempts.’ Now it requires a Korean phone number for verification. As a foreigner, what can I do? Thank you.

Can’t call/message because of user protection policy?

Posted by [deleted] · in r/KakaoTalk · 4 years ago

Whenever I try to do ANYTHING on the app, a pop up box shows that says “you are currently not allowed to... because of our user protection policy.” I think I’ve been banned but I haven’t really done anything to cause it? It’s been over a month since I made my account and it’s been like this ever since. I’ve tried contacting customer service but it hasn’t really been of any help. Does anyone know what I can do?

Bizarre Kakao error: I can receive messages from contacts but can no longer send any messages!

Posted by Abatta500 · in r/korea · 5 years ago

EDIT: THE APP IS WORKING AGAIN! It seems like this was just some kind of temporary outage. Thank you all for your help. :)

Does anyone have any idea how to fix this besides uninstalling and reinstalling the app?

I can still receive messages from my contacts on Kakao but I cannot send any messages.

I tried Googling for a solution but I didn't find anyone with my same problem.

I've tried turning my phone on and off, as well as resetting my internet connection and trying to use mobile data. Nothing has worked so far.

Thank you all for your help. :)

P.S. Kakao also won't let me back up my chat history even though I have an Android phone (I wanted to backup my chat history in case I have to reinstall). It seems the app is just being bad for some reason.

Actually I don't know if it's everyone because I can't message on Kakao to check.

Did you make your id on a different SIM card? I had this issue when I came back and had a different phone number so I thought that might have been why but I never really figured it out.

RivellaLight · OP · 6 years ago

Maybe I did, years ago.. but currently my Kakao account is linked to the correct phone number, i.e. the sim card that I'm using. It worked fine for years. You make a good point though, I did recently go abroad and use a different sim card for a week, I guess that screwed this up. Ive done that before though without any problems.. very annoying.

1 upvotes on reddit

try getting ppl to search with the QR code?

i doubt it's just because you changed your sim for a week

1 upvotes on reddit

RivellaLight · OP · 6 years ago

That might work offline but not sure how Id use that online.. Theyd have to scan the QR and Im not sure how theyd do that if its a picture on their own phone;;

I sent an inquiry to Kakao, hope they fix it quickly.

>i doubt it's just because you changed your sim for a week

It worked fine for years though so it's the only thing I can think of.. especially with the other comment mentioning it.
