TL;DR Ensure the app is not being killed by memory management features like Duraspeed, check notification settings both in-app and system-wide, and consider locking the app in the task manager.
Memory Management and Background App Settings
One common issue with KakaoTalk notifications not appearing is related to the app being killed in memory. This can happen due to aggressive memory management settings on certain devices. Users have suggested disabling features like Duraspeed or adding KakaoTalk to a whitelist to prevent it from being stopped [1:2]. Locking the app in the task manager can also help keep it running in the background, allowing notifications to come through
[1:1].
In-App Notification Settings
KakaoTalk has specific notification settings that need to be configured correctly. Users should ensure that "Display in Notification Panel" is set to "Chats w/ Notifications On" rather than "All Chats" to avoid unwanted alerts [3:1]. Additionally, toggling the "silent messages" setting off within the app can help manage group chat notifications more effectively
[2:3].
System-Wide Notification Settings
It's important to check the overall phone settings to ensure no system-wide restrictions are affecting KakaoTalk notifications. Make sure the device is not in low power mode or battery saver mode, as these can restrict notifications [4:2]. Confirm that all necessary permissions for the app are enabled, including SMS, Phone, and Contacts if applicable
[4:2].
Troubleshooting Steps
If notifications are still not working, try deleting and reinstalling the app [3:4], or checking for any recent updates that might have affected notification settings
[4:1]. Restarting the phone can sometimes resolve temporary glitches
[5]. If issues persist, contacting KakaoTalk support or seeking advice from online forums may provide additional solutions.
I use my Bigme Hibreak Pro as my everyday phone, but I've noticed that messages and calls via Kakaotalk often don't come through. If I open the app, then I receive all of the things missed at once upon launch.
I have all permissions enabled for the app, and all notifications enabled in both the app and system settings. There are no app specific battery optimisations on.
An acquaintance mentioned he thinks it's because it's Chinese and the app is banned there. But I would presume that would be DNS level blocking, like we do here in Australia? In which case I presume that would not route through there once my own SIM went in.
Does anyone else know how to fix this? I love this phone but everyone else I know that uses this app wants me to stop using it.
I would think it has more to do with the app being killed in memory. See if stopping duraspeed (or adding the app to whitelist will help.) adb shell settings put global duraspeed_enabled 0
Where is that option to disable Duraspeed?
Currently, there's no way to fix it completely. However, you can lock the app on task manager so it can keep getting notifications on the background.
I know that the bell icon will deafen the SOUND of the notifications, but I don't want to receive them from this group chat at all (and I don't want to leave the chat)
I happen to be in a group chat that is very active. I don't dislike them, and thusly don't want to leave, I engage sometimes, it's just way too active for me to keep up with. There never aren't notifications. It's always the top most recent alert when I pull down the notification bar.
How can I
Not turn off all notifications
Not leave the chat
Not have it show up in my notification panel
all at the same time
You can turn it off in your phone settings then app notification settings
Under notification settings for KakaoTalk, just toggle "silent messages" to off
Hi, sorry I have the same issue and can’t find that setting. Is it under the KakaoTalk app settings in the iPhone Settings menu, or within the app? I can’t find “silent messages” anywhere. Thanks!!
Life saver man, thanks a lot!
works 100%
It worked! Thank you
I know this is a year old, but I've been dealing with this for months now and thought there was no solution. Thank you so much for this, it worked for me and I'm so happy to not receive 100 notifications a day from group chats. KakaoTalk needs to learn what "muted" means 🤣
The only notification settings specifications that I can individually turn off are:
전체 메시지 검색 (for some reason this one is in Korean)
Clipboard
Talk Drive
General
Boards
Music
Playback
Calls
New Message
Silent Messages
Which one would it be
I muted (i guess it's called Alert turned off) some conversations with some individuals so I don't get bothered while I'm at work
but I still get pop-up messages when they message me. Is it only me or does the mute function seems to be broken?
You have to go into your phone settings and turn off silent messages for KakaoTalk app. You can dm me and I can send a video if you need further instructions.
This doesn’t happen to me. You are swiping right on the conversation in the chat list and pressing on the bell?
Yes im pressing the bell, and it seems to do nothing
Try going into the notifications in the app settings itself and toggle the notifications on and off. All else fails, delete and reinstall app.
I know this post was two years ago but I experienced the same problem and was also frustrated, thinking that the notification didn't work as they should. But apparently I was in the wrong; opening up "Notification" settings in Kakao, I found the menu "Display in Notification Panel" > change "All Chats" to "Chats w/ Notifications On", that finally solved my problem.
Bro thx
Oh shit, thank you
Based on the screen shot I have notifications allowed, but the mute notification symbol is also there.
I currently have this symbol on about 6 apps.
How do I remove? I am not getting sound notifications on any of those 6 apps.
DND is not on. Volume is up.
Someone told me in the past to adjust notification categories, but that did not help.
S23 ultraeverything is up to date.
Hi there. To help resolve this, I recommend trying a few more troubleshooting steps. First, please check if your phone is in a low power mode or battery saver mode, as this can sometimes restrict notifications. It's also helpful to confirm that Google Messages is set as your default SMS app and that it has all required app permissions (SMS, Phone, and Contacts). While you mentioned checking categories, could you also briefly review your overall phone's notification settings to ensure no system-wide restrictions are in place?
If you're still experiencing issues, I'd suggest you to submit feedback within the Messages app: Open Messages > Top right corner: Profile icon > Help and feedback.
I get a icon notification in my top left screen. No sound though. And recently I've noticed that even though there is a icon in the top left when I open the messages app the thread with the new message doesn't have a indicator on it.
I am not happy with notifications here either. I have the S24 Ultra with an S View cover. I used to see the contact icon in the S view when a notification came through but not anymore. It broke a couple of updates ago. Now the S view lights up (turns on) when the notification comes through but that's it. Then I do have the little dot in left top corner of s view window. But that's it. Very disappointing. Something similar happened with Snapchat but uninstalling/reinstalling fixed it (or Snapchat fixed it). I have tried that several times with Messages... No luck.
Hello, anyone experienced this before? My notification is on for sure however I never get any notification from LINE anymore even when the app is running in the background. I checked every settings as well. Not sure what to do. The app is also up to date. I tried restarting my phone as well.
I get this for line calls. How about u
hello, I have a question, do we also need to have it to see the emoticons sent to us in kakaotalk? (I use it with a foreign number)
What do you mean "have it"? If you mean the emoticon, no, it will still show up on your Kakao. The only thing you can't use with a foreign number is to use hashtags, that's how it was earlier at least.
My Z60 Ultra LV using China rom, it's installed serveral banking apps, 2 chat apps are messenger and zalo, 2 email apps are gmail and outlook.
Whenever I test the notificaion, only the banking apps get none notification until I open those apps.
They're same notification permission and battery rule set to automatic on auto start, start second app, run in background.
I tried other apps, like taobao also get notification if I not restrist it auto start and background running.
The problem will solve if I allowed those banking apps auto start and background running.
I'm just curious does the OS have done something to auto start and backgound running on not reconigzed apps?
The problem also not caused on my Xiaomi (MIUI EU) and Sony.
found this solution fix for me: https://xdaforums.com/t/nubia-z60-ultra-all-about.4648809/page-8#post-89326146
not sure about battery draining
I've noticed the same thing with banking apps on global rom, I have to set the "Auto-start" and "Background running" options to "Allowed" otherwise no notifications. One of my apps states though that it uses google services for push notifications so maybe that's what doesn't work properly?
And the problem is my banking apps are not good optimised, they drain battery life if I keep it running.
=.="
So I moved to the states from Korea. Downloaded KakaoTalk on my new phone and got into my old account and everything seemed to be fine. But now KakaoTalk will just not load any new messages I receive. I get the notification and I can see what they said in the notification, but when I open the chat it’s like they sent nothing at all. Happening for all my chats.
If I have the chat room open and get a message than I can see them. Any ideas what is causing this?
Having the same issues here in Canada. No clue what’s causing it but I’m worried ill lose all my chat history/photo/attachments if I delete the app and reinstall it. Has anyone found a solution?
Ok so someone told me it could be due to low storage space?
I can see that being a valid reason for sure, but my phone isn't even half full and this still doesn't rectify the fact that it works fine if i have the chat open.
seems impossible to find out any kind of fix for this and its so frustrating.
Hi I have this problem too, I think it's because if you switch your sim card. I'm currently in Spain and saw a message but my Kakao account is made with a US phone number, so for this reason I think I'm unable to see it
Everyone is, it's down. I think this is the longest Kakao outage ever.
Actually I don't know if it's everyone because I can't message on Kakao to check.
Saturday evening and no Kakao to communicate with people. It's going to be madness
It's still not working.....IT companies all over the world will use kakao as a verb at this rate. "always have a working plan b ready, don't kakao yourself..."
Edit: I can send messages but I'm seeing a lot of bugs
Kakao data centre is on fire literally
That explains things! Here's an article about it: https://m.segye.com/view/20221015509530
Nice. I'd send it to the people I know, but...
And apparently no contingency plans so service is uninterrupted. Yikes.
Datacenter on fire and seems they have no redundancy which we could expect for one of the largest IT services company in korea
Taxi app is down too. Cluster
Not working for me also
When is the last time this has happened? I literally thought it was just me.
I've been here since 2009. I don't remember it ever going out before.
