You can turn it off in your phone settings then app notification settings

You have to go into your phone settings and turn off silent messages for KakaoTalk app. You can dm me and I can send a video if you need further instructions.

I know this post was two years ago but I experienced the same problem and was also frustrated, thinking that the notification didn't work as they should. But apparently I was in the wrong; opening up "Notification" settings in Kakao, I found the menu "Display in Notification Panel" > change "All Chats" to "Chats w/ Notifications On", that finally solved my problem.

I get a icon notification in my top left screen. No sound though. And recently I've noticed that even though there is a icon in the top left when I open the messages app the thread with the new message doesn't have a indicator on it.

I am not happy with notifications here either. I have the S24 Ultra with an S View cover. I used to see the contact icon in the S view when a notification came through but not anymore. It broke a couple of updates ago. Now the S view lights up (turns on) when the notification comes through but that's it. Then I do have the little dot in left top corner of s view window. But that's it. Very disappointing. Something similar happened with Snapchat but uninstalling/reinstalling fixed it (or Snapchat fixed it). I have tried that several times with Messages... No luck.

What do you mean "have it"? If you mean the emoticon, no, it will still show up on your Kakao. The only thing you can't use with a foreign number is to use hashtags, that's how it was earlier at least.

not sure about battery draining

I've noticed the same thing with banking apps on global rom, I have to set the "Auto-start" and "Background running" options to "Allowed" otherwise no notifications. One of my apps states though that it uses google services for push notifications so maybe that's what doesn't work properly?

Having the same issues here in Canada. No clue what’s causing it but I’m worried ill lose all my chat history/photo/attachments if I delete the app and reinstall it. Has anyone found a solution?

Hi I have this problem too, I think it's because if you switch your sim card. I'm currently in Spain and saw a message but my Kakao account is made with a US phone number, so for this reason I think I'm unable to see it

Everyone is, it's down. I think this is the longest Kakao outage ever.

Actually I don't know if it's everyone because I can't message on Kakao to check.
