Alternative Methods and Considerations
If you encounter issues with the built-in method or need additional options:
Manual Export: Some users prefer to manually export important chats by copying them into notes or emails. While this doesn't preserve the chat format, it ensures you have access to critical information.
Third-Party Tools: Although not specifically mentioned for KakaoTalk, there are third-party applications designed for transferring app data between phones. Use these with caution, as they may involve privacy risks or costs.

just correcting it because I see it in the post: Apple doesn’t “un-sign” macOS like it does iOS - they may check if it’s latest if you clean install but that’s a startup security setting that can be changed.
Meaning that if you really wanted to for some reason, you could throw Monterey on a USB and install that instead.
Of course when enough years have passed, the certificate used to sign the installer may expire but that can just be bypassed by changing the date.
I’m new to Mac so I switched to Tahoe when I got the chance. Still, I found Sequoia to be very nice while I was using it. Maybe one day Tahoe will be my new old that I stick to for an extra year
i have too much fomo
I was just wondering what you all do when you get a new iPhone as the 17PM will only be my second iPhone. I obviously set the first one up as new but now I have to make a choice.
I always transfer from old phone. I tried new one time for the fresh start but was quickly annoyed at having to add everything back
Transfer for sure! I have iCloud backup and the transfer is seamless. But even direct phone to phone transfer is so easy and quick
I never transfer my data as I keep my old phones and imo I like starting fresh the only thing I find annoying is adding all the phone numbers again
I don’t upgrade often since smartphones came around, roughly every 5-6 years, but I set up from scratch particularly because it’s such a great opportunity to clear out phone numbers no longer needed. 😃
I enjoy setting up a phone from new. It’s a great opportunity to ditch all the old stuff you’re not using regularly and explore all the menu settings with fresh eyes for your current life situation rather than just using what’s been there before.
Sounds like me.
I have enough bloat from years of transferring that I see bugs that I don’t see in any other phones. Also, my restore tends to overheat the phone and gives horrendous battery life. Same device when used by another family member after a factory reset seems to perform way better. Seen this happening multiple times. So, this time around I am setting it up as new. It’s going to be painful, but definitely worth a shot.
I finally bought the Samsung S25 after saving three months’ worth of part-time job salary, but now I’m stuck on the phone transfer part. I mainly just want to move my important photos and videos from the old phone, since I don’t really need everything else. I tried looking for software to do this, but so far I haven’t found anything that actually works the way I want.
Has anyone figured out a good way to handle this kind of phone transfer? Any recommendations would be super helpful.
Should be pretty easy unless you switched from Apple to Android. I just had that issue - I'm going back to Android (and getting the phone you did!)
If your old phone is Android and you only want specific items from your gallery, set your phone up without transferring data, then use Quick Share to transfer the individual files you want copied over (you can transfer files in bulk as well).
If your old phone is also a Samsung, their smart switch application is fantastic. If there's anything in secure folder you'll want to manually move anything out first as smart switch won't touch it.
I think smart switch works with just about any phone. Just charge both and use a cable, not Bluetooth.
USB C to USB C cable, hardware transfer
Very difficult to give recommendations if you don't tell us which model your old device is
My company just rewarded me with a brand new phone (pretty sweet, I know), but now I’m stuck on the data transfer part. Specifically, I need to transfer WhatsApp to new phone without losing any chats, media, or files.
I’ve read that the official methods can sometimes be unreliable or time-consuming, and I really don’t want to risk losing important conversations and documents from work.
Has anyone here gone through the same process recently? What’s the most reliable tool or method you’d recommend for transferring WhatsApp data to a new device?
There’s official WhatsApp transfer process. If you set up the phones correctly then the official mechanism should work irrespective of platform transition. Although if the previous and the newer devices are on the same platform then it’s much easier.
Android: Backup Chats, install on new phone, restore chats
Yeah, I messed that up recently. New phone, didn't think about that at all when I started installing and logging in to things, and WhatsApp asked like "Restore the latest backup?" Sure, it was from like eight hours earlier, but still lost a bunch of messages.
Always backup before switching devices.
Switching from android to android I just used whatsapps built in backup and restore function and it worked fine
Is this a company managed phone with work profiles that are setup for work only things? If so I suggest you do not transfer your personal information on to it. I highly suggest you keep your current phone and just setup the new phone as a fresh work phone.
Bingo. OP listen to this advice. Keep your work phone and personal phone separate.
Exactly. Any particular reason not to keep your personal phone?
I would never mix the two. Work phone generally means they can monitor activity, wipe the phone remotely, and take it from you with no warning if you're fired.
I've always backed up via Google storage and never had issues. Moved across 4 devices now.
Hi everyone, I recently switched from an iPhone to an Android, and even after following all the official WhatsApp steps, my chat history didn’t transfer. I ended up losing everything.
I’ve found some programs that claim to do this, but they’re all really expensive and priced in USD/EUR, which makes it tough when you earn in BRL.
Has anyone here gone through the same issue and found a free or more affordable solution? Any tips or tutorials would be a huge help 🙏
Just to add more context: since I installed WhatsApp on my new Android, it hasn’t been able to back up to my account. It shows almost 20GB of data, which is strange because the chat history never actually transfered.
I’m using the Samsung switch app to transfer my iPhone data to my Samsung phone. The app however only give me the option to transfer calendar, contacts, videos and pictures but no option to transfer sms history, whatsapp history or app data.
How do I solve this problem?
Smart Switch can’t transfer SMS, WhatsApp chats, or app data from iPhone. Use WhatsApp’s built-in transfer with a USB-C to Lightning cable, third-party tools like iSMS2droid for SMS, and manually reinstall apps since most app data won’t carry over.
Hi, thank you very much for your response! I was watching this YouTube video https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=Xhup0zY8KSY&t=316s&pp=2AG8ApACAcoFI3NhbXN1bmcgc21hcnQgc3dpdGNoIGlvcyB0byBhbmRyb2lk.
At 05:15 it looks like has many more options to transfer data like apps and messages?
For context, here is how it looks on my phone.
Looks like Samsung Switch doesn’t support everything you need to transfer, like WhatsApp and SMS history. A solution would be using MobileTrans, which can handle the full transfer including app data and WhatsApp chats so nothing gets missed.
Tried to log in on another device, but whatever stroke of a genius got the idea of sending a message onto the other device to do so, right before it logs you out for jack reason should go fuck themselves. The data and cache should still be there, is there any way i can restore the messages?
no, once it's gone it's gone except the last three days.
You were supposed to press the "I'm moving devices, back everything up" button before logging out..!
would have been nice if it told you on the device you're staring at that it'll even log you out in the first place
Money.
As far as I know you have to be subscribed for that. (톡서랍 플러스)
No. KakaoTalk fucking sucks.
There's a subscription (2200krw/month for Google Play builds) to backup your messages & media instead.
So, around the same time me and my partner started dating I got my phone stolen, losing a few weeks of chat history.
I would really want to have these messages back bc I like reading our old chats, and I could from their phone, but I wish I could from mine, sooo...
Is there any way to transfer those messages from their device into mine?
The best thing you can achieve is exporting the chat log and saving this somewhere. If exported with media, you'll have both a text file of the chat and subfolders containing photos, stickers, videos and voice notes etc
Understandable, thank you
best shot is pulling the chats straight from your partner’s device. copying the history manually sucks, but tools like mobiletrans simplify it. it transfers full conversations between phones, even from different systems like android to iphone. works well for restoring old chats too.
Hello! I recently upgraded from the s20 to the s25 and I have finished the data transfer using the USB c
Due to the nature of requiring a Google account to have sms now (???) my texting history did not come over. I'd like to know if anyone is able to make a suggestion how to either transfer it or save it to somewhere?
I know it's silly but it's very sentimental to me. I love reading old old messages from friends or loved ones who have passed.
Assistance appreciated
Smart Switch.
Recently my old phone (Iphone 14) was damaged and this week I received a new Iphone (15). The usual data transfer resumed as normal except with Whatsapp. Anyone know how to fix the following?
I logged into Whatsapp on my new phone, only to find most of my chats not appearing, stickers lost, and chat history and image histories lost. I sent test messages to all my contacts. Out of curiosity I logged into it on my old phone, which Im deciding to keep around, and the test messages I sent to my contacts dont show up. Anyone know what to do about this?
Did you follow WhatsApp’s directions on transferring the account to a new phone? Be sure to select iOS.

Did you have a backup in Whatsapp? Transfering from phone to phone means the app will be transfered but not the data in the app.
