How to Record Screen on a Lenovo Laptop

TL;DR

  • Use built-in tools like the Xbox Game Bar on Windows 10/11.
  • Consider third-party software like OBS Studio or ShareX for more features.

Built-in Tools

For Lenovo laptops running Windows 10 or 11, you can use the built-in Xbox Game Bar to record your screen. This tool is designed primarily for capturing gameplay but works well for recording any screen activity. To access it, press Win + G and follow the prompts to start recording [3:1]. Additionally, Windows 11 includes a screen recording feature in the Snipping Tool, which can be used for simple video captures [4:3].

Third-Party Software

If you need more advanced features, third-party software such as OBS Studio and ShareX are popular choices. OBS Studio is highly recommended for its robust set of features and flexibility, though it requires some setup [3:4], [4:4]. ShareX offers a simpler interface and is also effective for basic screen recording needs [2:1].

Recording Audio and Video

When recording both audio and video, ensure that your chosen software supports these features. The Xbox Game Bar allows you to capture system audio, while OBS Studio provides extensive options for both audio and video settings [3:1]. For those using collaboration software, many platforms have built-in recording capabilities, which could be useful if you're recording calls or meetings [3:3].

Storage and File Management

After recording, you may want to transfer your files to an external drive to save space on your laptop. You can find your recordings in the Videos > Captures folder on your PC. From there, connect an external drive and move your files as needed [3:2], [3:5].

These methods should cover most screen recording needs on a Lenovo laptop, whether you're capturing gameplay, creating tutorials, or recording meetings.

How do I record my sims 4 gameplay for videos?

Posted by Beautiful_Message_81 · in r/TooAfraidToAsk · 7 months ago

I have a Lenovo Thinkpad and I love playing sims. I sometimes will record funny clips with my phone to show my friends. I want to start posting those funny clips to tiktok or something just for fun but I’m not sure where to start.

What do I need? What is the best way to go about it? Any tips

I usually use the software ShareX for screen capture or recording. Your laptop's GPU or the Windows Xbox app may also have software for screen recording.

You'll want to edit the clips to just be the parts you want. You might be able to do it in something like Windows Clipchamp though I've never used that. I typically use Davinci Resolve for any video editing I do but it might be overly complicated to start out.

I have no idea how the Tiktok stuff works.

How do you record your screen?

I need to record a 1 hour call, so I need to capture my screen and the audio. Do I need to install an app to do this, or is there a built in function on my laptop? (Lenovo ideapad flex 5)

OBS is a good option. Make sure you have lots of free hard drive space!

Sorry I’m a bit dumb, but after I record, could I transfer it to a hard drive or something? To save space

Yes, it can be transferred to an external drive to save space on the laptop. Open File Explorer and go to Videos > Captures and that is where all the screen recording saved. Connect your external drive, move / copy the folder or the files, and move / paste it to a designated or your preferred folder inside the external drive. Hector_Lenovo

Sure, you can even live record to an external device. You can change the recording options, resolution, codec and whatnot to sacrifice some quality for lower space requirements if needed. Lots of guides online.

Many collaboration softwares have built in recording too, assuming you're using one for the call.

Hi there! Thanks for reaching us. You can use a third-party program that offers a ton of features and great convenience in call recording which may depend on the tool being used. Windows 10 has a screen recording utility called the Xbox Game Bar. With it, you can record a video of your actions in just about any Windows app on your laptop, whether you want to capture gameplay or create a tutorial for someone using Microsoft Office, and limited. It's best to check out other apps online specifically for the app that you want to use for calls. Moe_Lenovo

Trying to Figure Out How to Screen Record on Dell Laptop – Any Built-in Tools or Free Software You Recommend?

Posted by rockinchica77 · in r/techsupport · 3 months ago

Hey guys,I could use some help. I need to record my screen for a project, and I’m kinda stuck on how to screen record on Dell laptop. I thought there would be some super obvious tool built in, but unless I’m missing something, there’s not really a "record" button just sitting there.

I tried looking it up and found mentions of the Xbox Game Bar. Hitting "Windows + G" does bring up a menu, and there’s a screen recording option in "Capture," but it seems a bit buggy for me. Sometimes it just refuses to start unless I’m inside a "game," whatever that means. I’m mostly recording tutorials and random browser stuff, not gaming, so it's a bit hit or miss.

Some people out there recommended trying free apps like OBS Studio. I gave it a quick shot, but it’s honestly way too complicated for what I need – tons of settings and setups that I don’t really get. I also saw Movavi Screen Recorder mentioned on a few tech blogs. Looks like it’s easier to use, which sounds good. But honestly, I haven't decided yet if I wanna install extra software unless I really need to.

Is there maybe a simpler way to record my screen directly on a Dell? Would appreciate any tips for lightweight, easy tools that don't take an hour to figure out.

Start+Shift+R brings up the Snipping Tool in recording mode. You can select an area and record, with your choice of having computer sounds on or off and having microphone record or not.

I will say that OBS is a very nice tool that is easier to use than it looks, so if you are doing serious recording stuff, you might want to learn it. It's not as scary as it looks.

You can use the built in Windows snipping tool to record your screen. It’s very basic and easy to use.

If you're using Windows 11, check out the Snipping Tool, a built-in screen recording tool. I personally find it way more straightforward than Xbox Game Bar.

If you're still on Windows 10, Snipping Tool doesn’t support recording yet. In that case, I’d recommend trying EaseUS RecExperts. It's super easy to use, much simpler than OBS, and still has all the features you’d need for recording browser tutorials or any non-gaming stuff.

If you’re curious about other methods too, this article has a solid overview.

The LOQ is a solid laptop, good build quality and thermal management. As far as how it'll do for playing the Sims and watching movies it will do great, its more than enough for both tasks. I would just add another 8gb stick of ram so you have 16gb.

Just mind you that the 2050 is already an aging gpu, especially the mobile version. So if you ever plan on playing far more graphically intensive games like more recent triple A games you will find it struggling.

Camera that is best for filming YouTube style videos

Posted by Successful-Drink2739 · in r/VideoCameras · 6 months ago

Been thinking about posting videos to YouTube, and I was wondering if anyone could recommend me a camera that’s cheap, but also high quality. I currently have a Lenovo Legion laptop that I was thinking about using for this, but I don’t know if that’s gonna work. I plan on just sitting at a table and talking to the camera. Could someone please offer me their knowledge on this sort of thing? And can someone please tell me if my laptop is already enough for this?

how to record screen on Lenovo laptop

Here are some methods to record your screen on a Lenovo laptop:

1. Using Windows Game Bar

  • Steps:
    1. Press Windows + G to open the Game Bar.
    2. Click on the "Capture" widget (if not visible, click on the Widget Menu icon).
    3. Click the "Record" button (or press Windows + Alt + R) to start recording.
    4. To stop recording, click the stop button on the Game Bar or press Windows + Alt + R again.
  • Note: This method is best for recording games or apps.

2. Using Microsoft PowerPoint

  • Steps:
    1. Open PowerPoint and create a new slide.
    2. Go to the "Insert" tab and select "Screen Recording."
    3. Select the area of the screen you want to record and click "Record."
    4. To stop recording, move your mouse to the top of the screen to reveal the control panel and click "Stop."
    5. The recording will be inserted into the slide, and you can save it as a video.

3. Using Third-Party Software

  • Options:
    • OBS Studio: Free and powerful, suitable for advanced users.
    • Bandicam: Offers a free trial with a watermark; great for high-quality recordings.
    • Snagit: Paid software with a user-friendly interface and editing features.

Recommendations:

  • For quick and simple recordings, the Windows Game Bar is the easiest option.
  • If you need more features (like editing), consider using OBS Studio or Snagit.
  • Always check your audio settings to ensure you're capturing sound if needed.

Tips:

  • Make sure to close unnecessary applications to avoid distractions during recording.
  • Test your recording settings before starting to ensure everything works as expected.
