Hold down windows keyboard key and tap the PrtSc or PrtScn button. Theimages is saved to your \Pictures\Screenshots\ folder

If you use windows search and searc for : snip

You will also find the Snipping Tool and/or Snip & Sketch - 2 of Windows built in programs that allow you to capture just a smaller section of the screen and highlight or make notes on it if desired.

I have been able to take screenshots with the windows key + Print Scr and now it doesn't work and it's driving me insane. I tried Alt + Print + S and still nothing bI tried just about every damn combination of keys and nothin. I really need help with this and Google isn't helping me at all

Print Screen will save your entire display to your clipboard.
Alt + Print Screen will capture the current window and save it to your clipboard.
Windows + Print Screen will capture your entire display and save it in your screenshots folder.
Windows + Alt + Print Screen will capture the current window and save it... in your user/Videos/Captures folder? Why the hell did it go there? Seems to be part of Gamebar.
Windows + Shift + S will allow you to snip any part of your screen and choose what to do with it.

Reset your keyboard settings: go to language settings via Windows settings > change your keyboard language to, let's say, CA English > return it to the previous language configuration.

What graphics card are you using? I use an 6700XT, but I would imagine Nvidia cards also have this. The software has the ability to screen grab, and it can be set to grab whatever monitor is the focus at the time (where the program in current use is), with a simple key combo. For the Radeon software it's L Ctrl+ L Shift + I. Check your graphics config software.

I have tried the following options:

prnt scr
win+prnt scr
fn+prnt scr
Shift+prnt scr

All the above options are taking me to the snipping tool and not directly capturing the screen and saving.

You need to have Snip and Sketch installed. I think that’s your issue. If you don’t want that, you can install Lightshot.

I‘m used to just pressing Win+print but on this Laptop (Lenovo Yoga Slim 7) it just opens the snipping tool and I hate it. I‘ve been trying to figure out how to change it and also googled other possible short cuts and so far I haven‘t had any luck. Do you have any ideas what I could try or how to turn that snipping tool off? Thanks!

Edit: After being annoyed with this for over a year, of course I figure it out right after finally making a post about it. It was Fn+Win+print. Leaving this up for others with the same problem.

Hmm. Could have been remapped in software by Lenovo. Try seeing if there is anything in the laptop shovelware included OOB that indicates it remaps keys for "functionality enhancements" or whatever.

Whenever i take a screenshot this way the shot changes the color so that it looks less vivid and lightens the picture. Could that have something to do with my windows nightlight settings?

Big shame ER doesn't make screenshots more accessible. I missed my opportunity to take a screenshot of my knight during a sunset right after i slayed my first dragon - a moment I could have shared to a plethora of potential maidens on social media. LOL

I believe the steam screenshot key doesn't work because the steam overlay doesn't work in-game. This is likely because steam believes the EAC screen is the game and so it doesn't work in the game.

you have to hit prt scr while in game, then exit game and paste the screenshot into paint or social media or whatever

On recent windows versions (at least 10 & 11) you can HOLD the windows key and then press print screen.. this is a native windows function and will save a screenshot into Pictures -> Screenshots.

Works across platforms, launchers, GPUs, pass it on.

All my Steam games go into the same place when I press F12:

C > Program Files (x86) > Steam > userdata > 479125014 > 760 > remote > * > screenshots

The * means a specific number that represents your game. For example, mine for Elden Ring is 1245620. All my Steam games have their own numbered folder in the remote folder.

If you pin the screenshots folder to your Quickstart, then it'll always be available when you open file explorer. The other numbers in the filepath might vary for you, but explore your userdata folder and you'll find it.
