TL;DR
Apple Refurbished Store
The Apple Refurbished Store is a highly recommended option for purchasing refurbished MacBooks. These devices come with the same warranty as new ones, and you can still purchase AppleCare for additional protection [2:2]. The store offers a variety of models, including M3 and M4 MacBook Pros, at competitive prices
[3:2]. Stock rotates frequently, so checking back regularly might be necessary if you're looking for a specific configuration
[5:2].
Amazon
Amazon is another popular choice for buying refurbished MacBooks. Users have reported good experiences with their purchases, noting that even if there are minor cosmetic issues, the functionality remains excellent [1:3]. Some refurbished MacBooks on Amazon may also come with remaining AppleCare coverage, which adds an extra layer of security
[5:3].
Best Buy
Best Buy is a reliable retailer for refurbished electronics, including MacBooks. Purchasing from Best Buy ensures that the product is legitimate and comes with a warranty [1:2]. This option provides peace of mind regarding the authenticity and quality of the refurbished MacBook.
Other Options
Other World Computing (OWC) is mentioned as a trusted source for used Macs [2:3]. Websites like http://refurb.io
[3:1], Reebelo
[3:4], http://Swappa.com
[5:4], and http://Doubledex.com
[5:5] are also suggested as potential sources for refurbished MacBooks. Local computer repair shops may offer refurbished MacBooks with the advantage of seeing the product in person and possibly receiving a small warranty
[2:1].
When considering purchasing a refurbished MacBook, it's crucial to verify the credibility of the seller and ensure that the device comes with a warranty or return policy.
Hi. It is time to get a new MacBook. I am looking at some options for preowned or open box. Where should I go to buy one? Preference for north suburbs, O’Hare area, or city. Also, flexibility with location as I have a car. Many thanks.
Best Buy then at least you know it's legitimate https://www.bestbuy.com/site/searchpage.jsp?browsedCategory=pcmcat247400050001&id=pcat17071&qp=processormodelsv_facet%3DProcessor%20Model~Apple%20M2%5Eprocessormodelsv_facet%3DProcessor%20Model~Apple%20M3%5Eprocessormodelsv_facet%3DProcessor%20Model~Apple%20M4%5Econdition_facet%3DCondition~Refurbished&st=categoryid%24pcmcat247400050001
Thank you I appreciate the link.
I've always bought refurbed MacBooks from Amazon when I need them for work. Good deals to be had for sure. Worst one I got had a scratch on the outside. That's it. Functionally they're great.
This is perfect. So I just searched for a refurbished MacBook?
Yep!
What about refurbished or recertified? Also, it never hurts to just post on Facebook to friends and family “I’m looking for a used MacBook. Anyone replace their’s lately or have one?” Someone might just want to dump their current one for an easier upgrade path
Big thanks! Where do I find refurbished? I am very open to this.
I've gotten refurbished from the Apple store.
eBay? Apple‘s amazon page, apple’s website
If you want to purchase at ease, I recommend looking at Apple.com/refurbished choices.
Hey I’m auction one on eBay if your interested https://ebay.us/m/iWOx8k
Thank you. I need something with more advanced tech capacity. I hope you get a buyer soon.
I need to replace my current laptop and I’m thinking of getting a refurbished MacBook to save some money, but I’m not sure where the best place to buy one is.
I’ve seen some listings on random sites, but I’m worried about getting scammed or ending up with a laptop in bad condition. Are there any trusted online shops you’ve personally bought from?
Apple sells refurbs, and they actually come with the same warranty as a new one. Plus, you can still buy AppleCare.
I have had great success buying used Macs from Other World Computing (www.macsales.com)
Apple.com
Apple
Local computer repair shops sometimes sell refurbished MacBooks they’ve worked on. You can see it in person and often get a small warranty.
I'm hoping to purchase a refurbished or gently used MacBook Pro at a reasonable price, ideally an M3 or M4 model. I've already checked Apple's website, Amazon and Best Buy, but I'd appreciate any suggestions for other reliable sources. Where do you guys go to purchase refurbished apple devices?
Apple's refurb website has a ton of M3 and M4 Macbook Pro models in various sizes, configs and colors, starting at $1559.
Try maybe Mac East in Dartmouth. Not sure if they do but they’ve been around for a long time and may know where if they don’t.
Reebelo is where I got mine just after Xmas
Check out refurb.io
Not buying or selling. I don’t care if it’s old/kinda beat up. Never had one before and was looking to possibly switch. There were place near me that had some they were giving away but they started recycling them for some reason instead of letting people use them
If a Macbook is free, odds are they are going to have some sort of activation lock on them and are total bricks unless you can actually somehow get in touch with the originally owner (Which is basically impossible.) That's likely why they started "recycling" them. And even if these laptops "worked", if they were giving them away they were likely so old that they were pretty worthless; maybe worth 20 or 40 dollars if they could even find a buyer for a computer that old.
You can buy an M1 Air for $400 or less, check Facebook Marketplace/Craigslist/Offerup. Anything older than a 2020 M1 Air isn't worth it unless you just want some netbook but even then any Intel Mac sucks in comparison to a 2020 M1 Air. Apple Silicon macs released in 2000 is only when they actually became good computers.
I've had excellent results with the Apple Refurbished Store.
They're Apple certified, and all the external pieces are updated so they look brand new.
Stock rotates as it comes in, so if you're looking for a special configuration you may have to check back a few times.
You can find cheaper deals elsewhere, but you can trust Apple.
I had a good experience with Amazon; it even had 9 months of AppleCare remaining. YMMV
Swappa.com
Doubledex.com
Apple themselves sell refurbished MacBooks

Bhai why the fck u wanna buy a fucked up device. There is no authentic second hand reseller. Your mac would be like a pirated cd, works but not good.
Second hand laptops are a big no since people who repair them remove good parts from it and stuff in very old ones.
If you need second hand buy from a person you know. Or just dont.
Macstation. Search about it online. You can visit their store offline.
Hi OP, if you are looking for second hand then search on olx. For new you can try looking on indiamart as there are many sellers that can provide you a really good deal. I might have a contact of a few. Dm me, I will you the contacts.
Don't
while there are no official refurbished macbook from apple getting from elsewhere can be tricky since you wont know which parts have been replaced. you can instead try getting demo units from the stores which is way better option
Buying refurbished from Apple is essentially the same as buying new.
Immaculate condition and you can get Apple Care
From Apple directly? Yes. From anywhere else? No.
This. I don’t trust any other vendor with refurbished Apple products.
Only from apple
From Apple? Of course.
Yep, do it all the time from Apple - no problems.
I need opinions on either buying a refurbished MacBook.
My brother recently broke my MacBook and I need a new one since I used it for school but don’t wanna pay the price of buying a brand new one/getting it fixed.
Is refurbished good? Is it better from Amazon or Apple directly? Or are those other sites okay
Only Apple directly will give a quality refurb without question. Amazon retailers have much less standard to meet in comparison.
Refurbished from Apple is like new, and Apple backs that up - same warranty as new.
Refurbished from elsewhere is a gamble, and usually won't come with warranty past the original (not yours) purchase date.
Also - why isn't your brother paying for this?
Lol my brothers 5 😭 so I don’t have a choice but to buy it myself cause my parents won’t
I'm sorry your parents are assholes.
Good luck keeping your next Mac away from him.
Apple. Do not risk any private sales unless you know them personally.
Pay this no mind.
Private sales are fine. I have bought and sold many, many Macs in the private markets. Don’t be an idiot and you’ll be fine.
“Pay this no mind.”
Until you realize just how incredibly powerful Activation Lock is. No seriously, if you get a T2 or Apple silicon Mac that’s Activation Locked, it’s as useful as a brick. You can’t do anything with it until the previous owner’s credentials are entered.
The best way to avoid getting scammed and receiving an Activation Locked Mac, is to stay away from online second-hand markets. The only exception to this is Apple’s Refurbished Store.
Now imagine that there was an L in the link
If you’re in the EU or UK I’d recommend Backmarket, pretty good prices and very reliable
Thanks!
Apple directly or eBay but look for certified refurbished - not seller refurbished
New or open, never used are also good options. You often find good deals from people who are selling either because they already have one or was a work perk or something. You just need patience to find and get one.
I always buy my apple products from Best Buy open box
Try apple refurbished its an apple programme if you’re in the US Or best buy for the m1 air base model for $850(new)
Probably not allowed to post ebay links so PM me if you want a reliable seller and great deal on ebay. I just got a MacBook Air 2015 11” for $145 with free shipping. I know it’s older but does absolutely everything I need and probably true for 90% of people.
Apple outlet refurbished are great. I ’ve bought many and never had an issue and they come with the same 1 year manufacturer warranty. Wouldn’t hesitate.
